Survival is what drew Alex and Lyndra here.
A new facility on Marta was built. The building on the outside appeared like a small mansion, three stories high. Below the ground it dropped two basement levels.... then it dropped down for over two hundred feet down where it was nearly four times as large as its surface counter part. This part was spread out with two levels and nearly encompassed a large cavern. There were tunnels that would eventually lead to the surface not far from the main upper building. It opened up into a large cave that was naturally hidden within the landscape.
Alex had sensed the fear in the dragons of Exodii and it was almost overwhelming. It had overwhelmed Lyndra for a time after he first told her. It explained several things. He soon convinced Lyndra and she realized it too .... They were a dying species.
While Sha'uri had been slowly going insane, other dragons had approached Alex.. good and evil alike, although not all of the good and evil dragons came. The rest were too stubborn to even think anything was wrong and they certainly would never agree to breeding outside their own. It was one factor to the dwindling numbers. No one was certain about the other reasons they numbers were falling, though all had noticed a very low survival rate in the eggs that hatched. It is what prompted a few to approach Alex for aid in determining why and what could be done.
There were only a handful who approached Alex: one male black, a blue female, a green female ... one opal male, an amethyst female ... a platinum female, a bronze male and a copper female. The fact that they came together lent to the severity, moving both factions into a truce with one goal. Survival.
After several grueling debates, it was finally agreed that breeding was the only way for any of them to survive. That meant Alex and Lyndra too, which made six females and four males. This meant two females were free per batch to help in the care of the pregnant females and any hatchlings that might be around.
Alex saw the logic and soon convinced Lyndra to agree. Even they were a rare breed. Alex had convinced them all they needed each other to survive. Uncanny as it seemed, they all agreed. It was like they were all under some kind of peace spell, but there was no magic involved that could be detected. Perhaps some unseen force?
Together it was agreed, since no one knew what would happen in this, that they would each breed together once and remain together peacefully as a group until the youngest batch had learned to fly. By then personalities would have formed. Then from there they would evaluate the situation.
