The Star?s End Spaceport in RhyDin was in a seedy, rundown area clinging to the open space where shuttles landed and took off. The Port at Terrace was clean, white and thanks to large windows and skylights, filled with the warm golden glow of sunlight. The Port was nestled into a valley a short distance from the main city, Deala. It kept the noise of shuttles relatively isolated. Outside of the Port facilities, very few of the trees had been cut down ? the road wound its way around them instead. The leaves of the trees were a pale gray-green, and the sky was a startling deep blue. Combined with the white-paved road and the fresh clean air, it was an idyllic setting and a complete change from the cramped confines of the ship they had traveled on.

Their bags collected from the cargo's conveyers, the newly wedded couple wove their way through the throng of passengers moving in a multitude of directions. The speaker system crackled as departures and arrivals were announced in rounded, professional tones. As Sianna entered the revolving door to the street outside, a frantic family of six slammed into the other portion. They were clearly late and sprinting to make their shuttle. A low slung Gaelic curse slipped out as she was unceremoniously rushed to the sidewalk, barely managing to keep a hold of her bags.

Johnny followed Sianna through the revolving doors with the rest of their belongings and scooped up the larger of her bags without asking, to sling it over his shoulder. He smiled at her cheerfully and leaned over. ?I don? think I wan? ta know wha? ya jus? said.? But their delay by the entrance meant that a large man and a larger woman ran into Johnny from behind. The man glared at the newlyweds while the woman lingered a bit too long in moving away from the tall, blonde man. Johnny hastily moved to the left, out of the path of travel, and grinned as Sianna caught up. ?Ferge? how hasty people can be sometimes. If?n m?frien? set up everythin? like I asked, there should be a glider here for us any minute.?

"Does it really matter what I said?" Sianna volunteered nothing, while exchanging a rather pointed look at the portly woman so brazenly staring at her husband. The hasty scurrying in the wake of the rotund man was proof that some things were universal and required no language. Moving herself out of the danger zone, she stood beside him. "Will ye tell me what a glider is, or is that tae be a surprise as well?" Grinning teasingly, she took the smaller of his two bags so that he did not bear their weight in one hand with hers over his shoulder.

Surrendering the smaller bag, he answered while bright emerald eyes searched the road and then turned toward the lot far to one side where vehicles parked. ?Glider?s a? well, a glider. Anti-grav, don? need wheels or anythin?. Handy, an? pretty quick, an??.? Johnny?s voice trailed off, and then he closed his eyes. ?Lor? an? Skies. Looks like he din? come ou? or sen? someone ? jus? left th? thing.? He heaved a sigh and then grinned down at Sianna. ?Be? ya can guess which one?s ours.? Tilting his chin in the direction of the lot, one particular glider stood out from the others. Not for shape or condition ? more due to the white flowers and hot pink streamers fluttering from every possible point on the little vehicle.

She had been on the cusp of asking him to describe how a transport could work without runners or wheels, but following his motion, blue eyes widened in surprise, a nervous chuckle escaping in spurts. "Oh, ye mean 'tis no' that green one over there? And no' the blue one either, aye?" Resting on the ground, the glider looked inconspicuous enough, regardless of it's decorations. About to release a sigh of relief, it nearly lodged in her throat as several gliders zipped passed them on their way to Deala. "They dinna have tae go sae fast, do they, Johnny?" The space travel while manageable, had not left her stomach in a very resolute condition.

?Nah, no? tha? fas? if?n ya don? wan?em ta. Bu? they?re faster?n a horse any day. We?ll take it easy, m?love, an? I think ya?ll like th? ride.? Johnny bent to give her a reassuring kiss and then settled the bags he was carrying a bit more comfortably. Leading the way across to the lot, he got a better look at the decorations on the glider. In addition to the flowers and streamers were little bits of paper fastened everywhere with writing on them. As they neared, a complete stranger walking past saw the decorations, paused to read some of the notes, and then wrote something beneath another name. Johnny smiled as the man walked off whistling.

As long as I dinna have tae drive, I'll enjoy it verra much, I assure ye." Sianna's reaction to the autographing was one of complete amazement. The past few days had been a whirl of firsts and new beginnings, but this was threatening to take the cake. "Do ye think he was leaving his name on th' list tae have his glider done up tae a similar fashion, mo iomhuinn?"

Johnny laughed as he slung their bags into the cargo compartment of the glider. ?Don? worry, I wouldn? ask ya ta drive one?a these th? firs? time ya saw one. Now, t?morrow?? He trailed off and nodded his head toward the scraps of paper. ?As fer th? writin? ? have a look. One?a th? nicer thin?s abou? people here, I always though?. They?re happy ta see people happy, usually.? Slipping his arm around Sianna?s waist, he kissed the top of her head while she began to read some of the notes.

"Are ye sure ye feel up tae trying me at such a task, hmm? Ye dinna like the way I ride Ruadh from time tae time, aye?" She winked at him coyly. It wasn't the fact that she pushed their horse beyond his limits, but rather the way in which she used him to bob in and around congested traffic in Rhydin. Tilting her head back, she placed a kiss to his cheek before plucking a piece of paper from the glider's side. May you find all that you desire from the universe in the circle of each other's arms.

Johnny picked up another of the notes and read it aloud. ?Health, happiness, an? many fat babies.? He grinned at that and then leaned to find the strips of ribbon that the papers were attached to. ?Don? wan? ta lose these. As fer th? drivin? ? ya migh? have a poin?. All righ?, climb on? in an? I?ll pile these on yer lap. Ya can read?em ta me while we?re headin? inta town.?

The smaller bags stowed behind their seats, Sianna did as she was bid, settling herself comfortably in the passenger seat. "Do ye plan tae drive slow or expect me tae read quickly tae complete all of these before we reach town?" Holding out her hands for the first batch from the nose of the glider, she made quick work of smoothing out the pieces and scraps in a neat pile, detaching them from the ribbon.

Gathering the last of the ribbons and adding them to the pile Sianna already possessed, Johnny considered the question. ?Some?a both. I?m goin? ta drive slow, bu? I still don? think yer goin? ta finish?em all by th? time we make it ta th? hotel. Ain? tha? long a ride.? Swinging up and into the driver seat, Johnny turned on the glider. Its smooth hum made him smile, and he looked over at Sianna to see how she was reacting when the glider actually lifted on its anti-grav cushion almost a foot off the ground. ?Ya righ? there??

The sensation was mild after the thrust and lift of the shuttles, and she nodded, taking a moment to gather herself. "Aye, I'm fine. Just dinna keep reminding me that we're floating ower th' ground, aye? Seems rather queer tae think of it, ye ken." Winding a now empty ribbon around her fingers, she sat it to the side in a formed pocket and began removing the notes from another bundle. The next she read made her giggle right out loud. "A married man who's very wise is early to bed and slow to rise."

Laughter in the cab of the glider masked the hum of the motors. Johnny eased them onto the road towards Deala, keeping a sedate pace compared to the zipping speed of the other vehicles on the road. ?I don? guess I?m tha? wise, then. Wha? else ya go? there, m?love?? He spared a glance from the road to look over at her giggles, and green eyes danced with laughter as a faint blush stole up her cheeks. ?Or do I wan? ta know??

Nimble fingers quickly folded the paper and lodged it deep into her pocket. "I'm no' tae tell ye what it says. 'Tis a wee bit of instruction from a mother of fourteen." Her face still colored, she lifted the next submission before letting her gaze soak in the environment whirring past them. The lush foliage and expansive skies were a refreshing change from the cloistered din of Rhydin city. "Shall I read ye a few more or would ye like tae save them for later when we get where ye plan for us tae stay?"

?Hol? onta ?em fer now. Abou? ta come up over th? valley edge, an? ya?ll be able ta see Deala.? Johnny smiled as he remembered the view. Within a very few minutes, it was laid out just as he remembered. The city had been built with the same local white stone that the road was paved with. Buildings seemed to shine in the sunlight like jewels nestled into the gray-green landscape. A river cut through the city in shades of violet and blue, with more of the white stone crossing it in three bridges. It had always been one of his favorite views, and one that he had often wished Juliane could see in person to paint it.

Tall rustling pines seemed to sing in the breeze as Johnny guided the glider along into the heart of the city, the "streets" separated by wide medians dotted with blooming lilac trees and populated by smatterings of people going about their everyday lives. Hands were raised and smiles given as the decorations were noted, several rowdy bits of advice being shouted out in time for their ears to catch on the sentiments.

Johnny laughed again as some of the more graphic advice sounded. This was a world with very little shame in it, and he?d always liked the easy good nature that seemed the way of things here. ?So wha?re ya thinkin? of th? place so far?? Turning north, he steered the glider into a round-about in front of a long, low building that managed to radiate a refined elegance. A uniformed valet stepped forward and began removing their bags from the cargo compartment while Johnny swung out and circled the vehicle to help out Sianna. She had gathered all the notes and bundled them into her handbag, so they were able to enter the hotel unencumbered and smiling happily.

When Johnny had told her to pack for a warm climate, Sianna had allowed for something that she had previously experienced. Terrace was an entirely foreign environment in every sense of the word. The continent was layered and landscaped in lush step terraces, vegetation and undergrowth thriving and providing a canopy of oxygen-enriched atmosphere.

Sweltering and miserable the first day of exploration, the hotel concierge had been quick to advise and outfit the new bride with a lovely cache of appropriate apparel. Dressed for a morning out and about town, the long flowing skirt was made of high tech fibers that shimmered in changing metallic tones as it adjusted to the temperature moment by moment. Complete with a tank top, the garments repelled the heat and maintained a cool, comfortable core.

Moving through the lobby, Sianna extended a grateful smile to the concierge before slipping her hand in Johnny's and stepping out into the mid-morning sunshine. "Anyplace particular ye wish tae visit today, leannan?"

Conceding to the local style of dress as much as Johnny ever did, he was wearing a shirt of a similar color-changing fabric to Sianna?s. The tones of his were muted browns, bronzes and coppers that went along with the simple khaki shorts he had donned in concession to the heat. Giving Sianna?s hand a light squeeze, he grinned at her. ?Yer lookin? fabulous, ya know? An? nah, no real plans - though? we migh? wander down ta th? walk by th? River an? see wha? we see. Interestin? area down there.?

"I'm feeling like a champagne bubble, but I thank ye just th' same, aye?" Her own garb melded through ranges of silver-white, soft gold, and pale copper. "'Tis normal tae want tae look good next tae such a handsome man." A wink was exchanged for the grin as she slipped her fingers within his. "An' being near th' water sounds marvelous, aye? Perhaps ye will teach me th' trick tae skipping stones?"

?Ya don? know how ta skip stones? With seven brothers?? It was utter shock in Johnny?s voice at that revelation. He shook his head and grinned as they began to walk northwest along the street. ?Yeah, we?ll hav?ta do somethin? abou? tha?. ?S a vital skill. Hav?ta see if?n we can fin? a good place on th? banks. Most?a there?s set aside fer parks an? such - there?s one big open square tha? artists come down an? perform at tha?s real nice. Used ta be a guy who?d do th? mos? amazin? murals in chalk on th? ground - don? know if?n he?s still aroun? though.?

"I know how, I just dinna have th' trick tae it. I canna ever get more than five, aye?" She giggled into his shoulder as they made their way along. "Can ye no' just see Hudson's face when I challenge him tae a contest?" Sianna's grin widened another half-mile. "But th' park sounds lovely. Could even have a wee picnic for lunch, aye?"

?Sure thin?, if?n tha?s wha? ya wan?. An? we?ll try an? make sure tha? ya win if?n ya challenge yer bro ta skippin? stones.? They were making good time despite the leisurely saunter that was almost universal due to the growing heat of the day. Johnny laced his fingers between Sianna?s and swung their joined hands back and forth playfully as he pointed the two blocks ahead to the broad expanse of walk that ran beside the river. ?Goin? ta go there an? turn lef? ta ge? down ta th? park.?

The swinging hands brought forth a giggle and she did a quick jig-skip in response. "I still canna get used tae th' purple water. Look how it ripples and waves." Sunlight glinted off the windows of the buildings lining the streets. "Ye almost feel as if ye walk in th' midst of a prism, aye?"

Nodding, Johnny looked around at the cityscape with fresh eyes. He had lived on Terrace, in Deala, for long enough before to become accustomed to it. Now and with Sianna?s enthusiasm he once again appreciated the beauty of the city. The white stone of the buildings was broken by windows that reflected back violet water, deep blue sky, flowers in pots and window boxes, and the gray-green of trees on the median. As she said, it was like walking in a prism.

?Yeah, it?s pretty all righ? - an? I though? of somethin? we?re goin? ta hav?ta fin? t?day. Need ta ge? a good camera fer pictures while we?re here an? ta show everybody who wan?s ta see back home.? When they reached the walk and turned left it took them southeast - toward the harbor if they followed the river far enough. Ahead the walkway was framed by a spread of green grass and gray-green trees that ran right down to the edge of the water.

"A cam-era?" Even living in a modern environment did not make her accustomed to technology being so available. There were times the early 19th century woman felt as if she lived in a dream. "Will it be verra expensive d'ye think?" A cool breeze ran beneath the canopy of tree branches overhead, couples and families clustered to enjoy the day without baking in the full sun.

Sianna fit so naturally into the fluid environment of RhyDin that at times Johnny forgot she didn?t know of or wasn?t familiar with things that he took utterly for granted. He shook his head as he answered. ?If?n we jus? wan? somethin? tha? takes flat stills? Nah, no? hardly anythin? - abou? wha? we paid fer dinner las? nigh?. If?n we wan? somethin? tha? takes movin? holos it?ll run a lo? more. Thinkin? I?ll look fer somethin? tha? can do flats, movin? flats, an? still holos. Be worth th? price.?

She shrugged lightly, still completely unaware. "What ever ye say, leannan. I trust yer judgment wi' such matters, aye?" A faint tinkling of music and the odor of fried foods floated on the breeze towards them.

Cocking his head to one side, Johnny suddenly grinned as the distinctive tune became clearer as they drew nearer the source. ?Be willin? ta trus? me on somethin? else? I think tha?s a carnival up in th? park, an? tha?d be even more fun than skippin? stones if?n yer up ta it.? The trees opened up to reveal the carnival as Johnny spoke. In the middle of the day it wasn?t brilliantly lit as it would be later, but there was still an old-fashioned Ferris wheel showing gaudy colors against the sky, rides whirling and people thronging from game booth to game booth.

"Of course I trust ye..." The rest of her sentence died on her lips as she stared, mouth agape at the hurly-burly before it. The mixture of sights and sounds could only be equated in her mind to Gypsies, the summer faires, and Yule all rolled into one. "Where in th' wide world is one supposed tae start?"

?Anywhere ya wan?!? Johnny?s answer was immediate, cheerful, and not at all helpful. After a moment he grinned at her and bent to steal a kiss before they ventured into the chaotic crowd. ?Seriously, there?s abou? three categories?a thin?s ta do at a carnival. There?s rides, there?s games, an? there?s food. So which?a those d?ya think ya wan? ta have a go at firs??? A giggling teenage couple passed by as they stood on the outskirts of the fair. The girl was carrying a stuffed animal that looked almost like a koala apart from the fact that it was striped with gray and the gray-green of the leaves on the trees. She was also teasing the boy unmercifully - apparently she had won the animal rather than him.

Perusal of the type of rides around them, the large prizes dangling from the booths, and the aromas of food wafting over the breeze made the choice difficult at first. Ever the Scot though, logic won out in Sianna's reasoning of the situation. "Seems tae me that it would be best if we rode th' rides before we ate or before ye win me lots of prizes, aye?"

?There ya go makin? sense again.? Johnny teased Sianna cheerfully and then stole another kiss before he started to lead the way through the crowd toward the rides. ?Some people think tha? ya should only go on th? rides after ya ea?, bu? tha?s no? th? bes? way ta do thin?s. Any?a th? rides catch yer fancy ta th? lookin? at?em? My favorite?s th? Roundup - over there, ya see?? The indicated ride was not only spinning, but lifting and tilting at an alarming angle.

The kiss only enflamed her appetite for more, and she was on target to sate it again when her head tilted back to take in the magnitude of the wicked looking ride. If her stomach had not been queasy before, it certainly was now. The sensation was as if it flip-flopped like a fish. "Mind if we start wi' something a wee bit tamer, leannan? Ye need tae break me in gently tae such things, aye?"

Laughing when Sianna paled, Johnny scanned the grounds of the carnival to see what else was available. ?Looks like ya go? a choice from th? Tilt-a-Whirl, th? Ferris wheel, th? Slingshot, bumper cars, an? th? Silver Streak tha? I can see from here. So d?ya wan? ta go up, down, sideways, or spinnin? in circles?? Emerald eyes shone as he looked gleefully from ride to ride. ?Bumper car?s is pro?lly th? tamest, bu? tha?s no? exactly a ride. Wan? ta star? with tha???

A glance in the direction of the bumper cars showed a bevy of screaming children barreling into each other wily-nily. "I'm no' a bairn, Johnny. I can stand somethin' a wee bit stronger than baby-rides." Ticking off the other options in her head. "Why don't ye surprise me wi' one of th' ones ye named, aye?" Bright blue eyes held a glint of willing determination to offer him such a challenge. She'd been on the receiving end of his surprises more than once.

?Oh, don? knock th? bumper cars. Th? kids love?em fer a reason. Bu? if?n ya wan? somethin? else ta star? with - ? Johnny broke off and started to make his way through the crowd again, using his own body to clear the path for Sianna. ?Le?s head fer th? Ferris wheel. I think ya?ll like tha?.? He was grinning as he paused at a ticket booth to trade one of the thin square wafers of plastic that served as money on Terrace for a long handful of tickets. She wasn?t the only one whose appetite for a few kisses had been whetted by the stolen ones of earlier.

The ticket seller, overhearing a snippet of their conversation could only smirk after them as the next patron advanced in line. "And just what is th' purpose of th' Ferris Wheel, leannan?" Her hand extended to take the strand of tickets into something more manageable and pocket-friendly.

Claiming enough tickets for the ride before he let Sianna take them, Johnny led the way to the line for the Ferris wheel - not too long, fortunately. ?Purpose? Abou? th? same as any of th? rides - ta have fun on. Bu? on th? Ferris wheel ya go up an? aroun? an? ge? ta see everythin? below. An? from th? top, ain? nobody can see ya. Feels real private in th? cars, ya know - kinda neat feelin? in th? middle of all this.? Waving his free hand around was enough of an indication of what ?all this? Johnny was referring to.

Couples loaded into the rotating carts as the previous occupants vacated them. "So ye mean tae say th' fun is no' th' ride, but th' fun ye have on th' ride?" Her grin was wickedly devious as a bright orange cart came to rest at the loading dock and the operator motioned for them to slide along the bench. A large silver safety bar came to rest in front of them and with a whirr of the gears, they moved up in the queue.

The ride was archaic to Johnny and wildly futuristic to Sianna, with its operations relying on hydraulics and gears. But in either instance it was a great deal of fun as they rose up and above the level of the roof-tops. The wheel paused and hung, swaying, as at ground level the next bench of passengers took their places. He scooted closer to her on the bench and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. ?Oh, some ?a both. After all, look ou? there an? tell me tha? ain? a beautiful sigh??? Waving his free arm out at the scenery, he was looking at her with a smile.

His scooting had sent the bench to rocking back and forth. Sianna gripped the safety bar until it settled down and she could relax in the curve of his arm. "Aye, verra beautiful. Makes Deala look like a playhouse, aye? All miniature tae scale." She grinned over at him, a dark brow arched. "But ye mean tae tell me ye chose th' Ferris Wheel just tae show me th' view?"

The lifted quirk of her brow was irresistible. He laughed and leaned over to kiss the dark arch, then bent his head to kiss the corner of her mouth as the wheel turned all the way to the top. They would progress back to the bottom so that the wheel was completely full of new passengers, and then the wheel would begin to spin much more rapidly, without the pauses as in the first rotation. And then the process would go in reverse as passengers exited. So Johnny intended to take advantage of the slower revolution. ?A?course no?. Bu? it makes a grea? excuse, don? ya think??

"Oh aye, verra grand indeed." She grinned coyly and ran her fingers along the faint rasp of stubble that covered his jawline. From another cart on the wheel, raucous teens shouted out something about carts "rockin' and knockin'" and it was all she could do to reign in the giggle before she kissed him in earnest.

His laugh was lost into the kiss as he also caught the shout of the teens. But it passed as the kiss became more intense - and then the Ferris wheel set into its higher-speed spin. He pulled back just a bit and grinned at her. ?Le? me know if?n yer afraid - bu? I?ve always though? tha? it?s more fun kissin? at high speeds.? He winked and then leaned in to capture her mouth again for another kiss.

She nibbled at his lips a moment before a lightbulb went on and she pulled back from the kiss. "And just what sort of experience have ye had wi' kissing at high speeds, aye?"

He leaned back a little and grinned with a wicked gleam to the expression. ?Wha?, ya don? think tha? people hav?ta actually pilot those gliders if?n they don? wan? ta? Easy enough ta turn?em onta auto mode an? le? th? pilot take over. B?sides - are ya goin? ta be worryin? abou? wha? I did before I met ya, or enjoyin? th? momen?, anyway??

"Wishing tae have th' facts is no' worrying, leannan. Just want tae ken how much ground I have tae make up tae catch up wi' ye." Her own grin widened with a healthy dash of sass. "Th' gliders, aye? So that's why there's so many pregnant women on Terrace?"

Laughing, he leaned in to capture her mouth for another kiss before he pulled back to give a suggestive wiggle of his eyebrows, although he didn?t answer directly. ?Ya noticed th? fertility rates aroun? here, then?? True enough that it had seemed like a disproportionate number of women they had seen had been pregnant - although sometimes it was simply accented by the styles of clothing here that emphasized coolness and so light and sometimes revealing fabrics.

"How could ye no'? Makes me feel a wee bit out of place tae no' have a bump under my shirt, aye? And here I was verra proud o'er my figure too." One dark brow arched knowingly in his direction as she settled into the curve of his arm while the wheel continued to whirl around. "The housekeeper at th' hotel even left me a note tae suggest what I might eat tae help me conceive." A light laugh escaped. "Welcome tae Terrace, please have a baby."

Leaning back against the seat as the Ferris wheel gradually began to slow again, and pulling her closer into the curve of his arm, he grinned. ?Well, tha?s somethin? I din? pay much attention ta las? time I was here ? din? think abou? it when I booked us here. Jus? tha? I loved this place an? though? ya migh? enjoy it. Bu? yeah, they?re still lookin? ta build th? population, an? people?re ? well, they don? have th? restrain?s on enjoyin? themselves tha? some cultures have, ya know??

"No' like ye would. Th' lasses ye kissed while th' glider was on autopilot however, were verra aware I'm sure... " She laughed again and deposited a quick kiss to the dimple in his cheek as the gondola came to rest at the platform and the operator indicated that their time on the ride was up. "Many a lass on Terrace cried when ye left I'm sure. Ye do tend tae stand out, aye?" It was true. Johnny was fairer and nearly a head taller than most men on the planet. Many pairs of feminine eyes watched with appreciation as they exited the ride and made their way past the line of patrons awaiting their turn on the Wheel.

?Maybe one?r two,? Johnny shifted the topic slightly and away from that, ?bu? ya fit in like ya were born here. An? yer gettin? some fine looks fer tha? as much as I am fer standin? ou?.? A true statement, as she shone in the shifting metallics of the local fashion. He set their course from the Ferris wheel to the Silver Streak ? going from a vertical circle to a horizontal one that covered a slope and burst forth with loud and jangling cheerful music.

"Tae fit in I'd ha?e tae slip a pillow beneath my clothes, aye?" Hands went to her waist, emphasizing the curve and narrowness of her body. Nimble fingers slipped into a pocket and withdrew a barrette made of coiled wire -- the bauble Johnny had made for her while in transport. Securing her curls back into a low gathering, she flipped the locks around and secured the barrette in place. The end result was a soft style that kept the hair off her neck and out of her face. The couple assumed a spot in the line for the Silver Streak, moving at a fairly slow pace as the carts unloaded and filled up again. Unable to keep from it, Sianna cringed lightly as the music hit some high tinny tones that had the same effect as nails on a chalkboard.

As they waited in the line, Johnny turned to face her, putting one hand on her hips and the other flat over her slim belly with a smile. ?Thinkin? I like th? shape yer in jus? th? way ya are. No need ta be changin? it, yeah?? He couldn?t miss the wince at the music, though the tinny tones had little effect on his own relative tin ear. ?Ya wan? ta try somethin? else, m?love? If?n th? music of this?n bothers ya, we can go ta one?a th? others.?

As he asked the question, the line advanced and they followed suit. Happily for Sianna, it took them from beneath the loud speaker to something a bit more bearable. "Nae, I'll survive it." His hands had reassumed their position on her hips as they halted once more and she lightly patted one hand with her own before they came to rest in the slope of his broad shoulders. "But 'tis verra glad I am ye dinna mind me as I am, leannan, especially considering how fond I am of yer's." Canting her head to one side, she flashed him an adorable grin complete with a wiggle of dark brows.

About to answer, Johnny was interrupted when they reached the head of the line, handed over their tickets, and then were ushered into the car. Metal bar snapped down into place, Johnny set his hands on the bar and grinned over at Sianna. ?Ya ready fer this?n? ?S a good prep fer th? Roundup, kinda.? In that both of them started out going in a horizontal surface ? and the Silver Streak did move fast enough to press back with centrifugal force.

"Je suis prest." It was the motto of Clan Fraiser -- 'I am ready'. Another grin revealed pearly white teeth as she beamed in his direction. "At least as ready as I shall ever be, aye?" Hands gripped the safety bar and while she looked calm and collected on the surface, her stomach did nervous little flip-flops within.

?Good thin?, ?cause here we go!? The cars began to move on the wave-like tilted track, the first revolutions slow but gaining speed to the pulse of the music until all that could be seen outside was a whirling blur of color streaking past. The operator?s booth was a solid block that came into vision and passed in less than a second for each revolution. Johnny laughed as they whirled around and glanced over to see how Sianna was reacting.

The expression had been frozen solid on her face as she willed herself to keep her eyes open. A gasp for breath escaped as they continued to pick up momentum. A snippet of words reached Johnny's ears. Something blurred except for the phrase "kissing at high speeds" and some garbled Gaelic.

Another laugh rang out as they circled ? slowed ? and then the cars began to move in reverse. Again there was the slow build-up to the high-speed, and in that lull, Johnny leaned over to speak into Sianna?s ear. ?Don? think we can manage any kissin? on this one!? To prove his point, he had to lean back into the seat as the speed picked up again with blaring music seeming to push the cars faster and faster.

"Oh Mary, Michael and th' Bride!" She was definitely not ready for the cars to start whirling in reverse. "If I dinna get off this thing in a timely manner, ye may no' wish tae kiss me..." Knuckles went white as her fingers clutched the bar with a death grip.

He would have shaken his head then, but the speed made that impractical. ?Ya?ll be fine! Keep watchin? fer th? booth on th? way aroun?!? Sometimes having a fixed point to anchor to could help settle a person?s stomach. Finally the cars began to slow again, eventually drawing to a halt. Johnny and Sianna were up at the high point of the wave-like structure and had to walk all the way around to exit through the proper gate while behind them more riders piled in eagerly.

She was thoroughly turned about and her legs wavered as if made of string. The slope of the walkway nearly did her in and she paused for a moment to grab the railing and take deep raking breaths to steady herself. Her logic to abstain from eating before riding the rides had not been as successful as she had hoped. It seemed there was no hope for her either way and she tinged a bit green under the gills.

Putting a fair bit of distance between them and the crowd thronging to the ride's clanging music, she began to breathe a bit easier, the normal coloring returning to her cheeks.

Seeing her distress, Johnny put an arm around her waist in a gesture that appeared casual and allowed her to rest as much of her weight against him as she needed. When they reached the ground, and moved away from the ride and the crush of people there, he paused in turn to look at her with some concern, hands resting on her hips as he faced her. ?Ya goin? ta be righ?, mo croidhe? Don? hav?ta keep on wi? th? rides if?n they make ya ill ? there?s plenty?a games an? all.?

She leaned on him as much in desire as she did in need. His presence was a comforting reassurance and she inwardly thanked the heavens for sending him to her. "I'm going tae be fine, mo iomhuinn, just a wee bit caught off guard, aye? Dinna forget that all of this is still a wee bit new tae me." Her hand came to rest against his cheek as she smiled softly. "But I'm still willing tae be taught new things if ye'll show them tae me." The glimmer in her eyes indicated that she caught her own double entendre full well.

A low chuckle followed her statement of willingness, and he was reassured by the return of the healthy flush to her cheeks and the gleam in her eyes. She was beautiful in the bright sunlight, with the heat turning her outfit all to the palest gold at the moment; he paused to glare at a passing man who was giving much too close a look. ?Ain? nothin? I?d like better. Bu? fer now, how?s th? Scrambler soun?? Think it?d be too much, or are ya up fer th? challenge? Tha?s th? one, over there.? A jerk of his head indicated the ride that seemed to be made of large bowls, whirling around and about each other while they spun individually as well.

Her eyes widened teasingly and she capped a hand over her mouth. Only a giggle escaped as the facade broke and she nodded. "Aye, think I can handle it." Bright eyes gave the ride a healthy dose of perusal. Satisfied that it does not speed up into some nuclear whirlygig of destruction, she nodded a second time. "Seems harmless enough, aye?"

?Le?s see if?n ya think tha? after, then!? He teased, and taking one of her hands he dragged her over toward the ride at a run to cut into the batch of people just boarding. A stout older lady glared at the pair while her rail-thin husband grinned. Giggling madly, they slid into one of the large cups and pulled the door on it closed just as the ride began. Again, it started slow and gained speed gradually.

Sianna could not resist waggling her fingers to the bypassed pair, the woman's frown deepening while the man bobbed his head with an embarrassed smile. Crowing with laughter, she flipped back around in the cup and settled into the curve of Johnny's arm. It did not take much effort however, as the pull of the ride seemed to guide her there regardless.

Cups swung around each other in a convoluted dance while they spun, and the motion pressed Johnny and Sianna into each other. It was one of the side benefits of the ride ? no matter how they slid around the bench, first to the left and then to the right ? they were forced closer together. In fact, on one particularly violent swing Sianna tumbled half into Johnny?s lap. He laughed at that, with a suspicion that she hadn?t lost as much control as all that.

Johnny Smith

It had not, in essence, been intentional but she wasn't going to start complaining anytime soon. "This is no' half as bad as I had thought, aye? Verra pleasant side effects this one has." Another giggle as they slid to the far side of the cup and back again, the arms swirling the "beaters" of the Scrambler in and around each other.

?Why d?ya think they?re on it, huh?? Johnny tilted his chin in the direction of one of the other cups circling past them. In it was a pair of giddy teens, the girl occasionally giving quick glances out of the ride?s perimeter to the scowls of an older man there ? most likely her father. Johnny stole a quick kiss before they went sliding along the bench again. ?Tha? way her pa can? say anythin? abou? them bein? all over each other.?

"Then he'd better no' let her go riding in any gliders, aye? Least no' without him in it." She smacked her lips at the kiss and cast a quick glance to the other riders. "I canna see my father letting me ride in any such contraption when I was the lass' age, aye? He was verra protective." Fingers squeezed his knee as they slid back in the opposite direction once more.

The ride finally slowed and stopped, and Johnny reluctantly unfastened the door and slid out, offering his hand to Sianna to help her. ?So yer sayin? I?m lucky tha? ya were on yer own when I me? ya, then? Don? know tha? I could face down yer pa an? seven bros all at once, any rate.? He glanced over as the teens got out, and chuckled when the father leveled a glare at the boy sufficient to make the teen almost visibly shrink away.

"Aye, ye could. Yer a verra feisty and headstrong lad, Johnny Smith. Determined tae get what ye want and tae do what ye must tae have it." Her hand slipped in his and offered a squeeze. "Ye might have had tae take a fair share of teasing and a few wee pranks, but ye'd have escaped unscathed." She flexed her free arm. "I'd hae thrashed th' lot of them had they done a whit tae ye."

White teeth shone as Johnny grinned. ?Well, ya have me pegged an? yer feelin? feisty ? up ta tryin? th? Roundup now, ya think?? Emerald eyes sparkled with challenge as he looked at her, with the tangle that high speeds and rapid turns had made of her hair even though the bulk of it had been fastened back. The grin faded to a smile that was full of promise as he reached up to take one of those loose curls and twine it around a finger. ?New thin?s an? all tha?.?

About to move off towards another ride, she stopped dead in her tracks. Lifting her hand, an index finger lightly tapped the side of her temple as she appears to be deep in thought. Blue eyes seemed to contain the sky as she took in the familiar contours of his face, a slow smile forming. "Aye, I'm up tae it. In for a penny is th' same as in for a pound, is it no'?"

?Tha?s surely wha? they say.? The smile warmed if it was possible and he leaned in to kiss the corner of her mouth where her slow smile curved it up. Straightening with a wink, he took her hand again to walk with her over to the Roundup and the line there. They could get a better view of the ride starting to spin and then lifting, tilting, and they could also hear the half-excited, half-scared cries of the riders.

Her head tilted back and took in the arc of the wicked looking machine. She remained quiet, suddenly sure that she'd bitten off more than she could chew with this challenge. Funneling her fidgeting energy into something productive, she removed the barrette and attempted to regain some order in the cascade of curls. The locks were slightly damp in the heat of the day and the tiny curls at the nape of her neck seemed to coil and tighten with the moisture.

Well aware of the cause of her fidgets, when she lifted the mass of her hair off the back of her neck, he slid his hand up to rub the skin there lightly, toying with the tiny wisps of curl there. It was a soothing motion rather than one with any intention of being sensual ? although his green eyes did darken a bit before he grinned and looked back at the machine and the line. ?Ya?ll be fine, Si. L?il thin? like this ain? goin? ta be no trouble fer a Scot.?

The noise that escaped her could only be classified as the all-purpose Scottish muttering best rendered phonetically as "Mmmmphm". "If th' Lord had seen fit tae have a Scot wheeling about sae far above ground he would surely ha?e given us wings, aye?" Her hair secured once more, she rolled her head in a light circle to stretch the muscles in her neck. "Just a fair warning tae ye if I let out a skelloch in fright."

?Gave us th? cleverness ta figger ou? how ta do it withou? win?s, instead. Ain? nothin? wrong with? screamin? if?n yer scared ? ya hear th? others on th? ride?? Johnny replied cheerfully, although the question was mis-timed. The ride was lowering and slowing to let people off, and there was no screaming at all occurring. They moved forward to climb onto the ride platform and hand over their tickets.

The large wheel was sectioned off like an orange into small compartments lining the circumference, only a thin piece of chain dangling across from one side to the other. Teens and clusters of young adults darted passed them, claiming a spot, but somehow the newlyweds were able to acquire spaces beside each other. Ducking beneath the chain, Sianna placed one hand on the shared metal mesh that separated her from her husband. Quietly murmuring a prayer in Gaelic for protection, she lifted her eyes to the skies as if pleading for merciful protection.
