"Oh Lor' and Skies!" The sound of rapid steps going upstairs and down combined with slamming doors was enough to make Juli's teeth rattle. Shutting the door to her room firmly, she spun around and rested her tall frame against the solid wooden plank. Her closet was a disaster. Everything had been pulled out in some fashion or another and nothing had been found suitable. The sensible one had moth damage, the homely one was spattered in paint. Every garment lacking, Juliane shook her head. "An' jus' what am I goin' ta wear, yeah? M'paintin' digs?"
"Ya'd be awfully colorful, yeah?" Katarina chimed in just as she heard her cousin. All smiles and not bothering to hide her secretive look, she popped into her cousin's doorway, "Wha' 'n th' Lor'n Skies are ya doin', Jules?" Looks as the usually neat room was in complete disarray.
"Jus' not in th' way I'd intended, yeah? Ma made th' girls new frocks ta wear, but in the midst of everythin' goin' on, I completely forgot!" There had been a lot vying for her attention and energy as of late. "An' now that I've come by a ticket, jus' what am I goin' ta wear?" The question came out heavily mixed with a moan as she reviewed the mess.
"Nah any o' tha'." She waved her hand around the clothing that had clearly been rejected by her tossing. "'S a good thin' too. I already told Johnnay tha' ya nah goin' ta th' studio lata. We're playin' hookay ta fin' ya somethin' ta wear so ya dun embarrass meh. Or ya, I 'pose." She smiled sweetly, and motioned her head out of the room, "We'll go fin' ya somethin'."
"Ya told him what?" Being ushered out the door like a reluctant child, her head twisted back to regard her cousin with shock and awe. "Haven't I already told ya what I think 'bout playin' hookay? He needs me ta finish up th' work so tha' he can engrave th' plates!" Pausing at the top of the steps. "An' don't get any fancy ideas of deckin' me out in one of th' extra costumes, either!"
"I would neva!" She grinned, dragging Jules down the stairs by her wrist. "Dun worray 'bout it. I go' it all under control." Brave words from the dancer as she led out of the house, before releasing her hold on her cousin's wrist. "'N I promised Johnnay tha' ya'd nah show up. So now ya hav' no choice bu' ta go wit meh."
Juliane dragged her feet for a moment before stopping dead in her tracks. "As if either of ya could keep me out'a m'own studio. Ha!" Necessity, however, kept her in step with her cousin, longer strides making up the distance in a matter of moments. "I don't even want ta know what I'm gettin' m'self into by agreein' ta this."
She held a hand to her heart, "Now ya insult meh. Do ya nah wan' ta spend time wit meh? Ya kin go in ya paint-splattered clothes if ya'd like. Though Si's told meh where ta fin' th' nice dresses."
At that, the taller woman could only chuckle. "It's not tha' I don't want ta spend time wi' ya, twinkle toes. But ya do have th' reputation of landin' in trouble every now and again." An affectionate tap to her shoulder as they walked along. "But with ya in yer costume and Si in a fine dress, heaven forbid I not dress ta keep up wi' th' two of ya."
"I hav'a dress aftawards, too. M'friend Sera made it fer meh. It's really pretty." Her grin was wide as she successfully gotten Jules out of the house. It was only a matter of keeping her away from the shop now. " 'n th' costumes are horrible." She laughed lightly, "But tha's all taken care of. Wha' color do ya wan', or do ya nah know yet?"
Juliane shrugged lightly. "How should I know? I can count on one finger th' number of times I've needed somethin' fancy ta wear. But nothin' yellow." Sudden flashbacks took her back to the springtime that Marian had dressed all her girls in matching white and yellow pinnafores. "That's nice of yer friend ta make ya somethin'. What color's yours?"
Katie blinked for a moment at Juli's protest to yellow, and upon remembering, she laughed bright, "Oh, Lor'n Skies, I 'member ya 'n yer sista's in yellow." Excitement building with each closer step to the inner part of town, she smiled, "It's a brigh' blue, wit nice beadin' an' it flows real nice. I'll show ya afta we fin' ya a dress."
