Johnny Smith

The sun was just breaking over the horizon when Johnny rolled up in front of the Smith house in town, driving a horse and wagon team. The empty wagon rattled alarmingly over the cobblestones, but that was soon to change. He took the front steps two at a time and entered the building, only to emerge minutes later carrying a large box. He loaded it into the wagon and headed back, assorted sisters and their mother following in his wake, loading possessions they wanted to keep at the farm rather than at the house in town.

The Marketplace was just coming to life around them when they finished, and they piled into the wagon. Their mother had thought ahead and brought several picnic baskets loaded with food, and as Johnny steered the wagon towards the north gate and the city walls, she busied herself handing around breakfast. It wasn?t long before the only sound to be heard was people happily eating.

They passed through the city gates and continued north for a few hours, the forest immediately surrounding the city walls gradually giving way to farmland and scattered farmhouses. Eventually they pulled up to one in particular, a neat white farmhouse with a detached carriage house and a large, freshly weeded vegetable garden out back. There was a neat sign hanging from a pole at the edge of the road, ?Smith Farm?.
