~Not so distant in the past...~
The rain hit hard across her skin, rolling down her pale skin and soaking the sun gold of her hair as she stared down the cliffs and considered all that had transpired. It was a celebration in black and the mood was morose and thick with desolation as she looked back to the gathering of the funeral far behind her. Already Avy had paid her respects and felt there was nothing more left to do then to move on and move forward.

?Tis ah shame about Marcus, isn?t it Avy.?

?MmHmm??

?Glad tae see yer still carryin? barely an ounce of sympathy.?

?Why should ah feel anguish ova tha loss o? muh handler? He was ah jerk and ye bloody well know ye picked someone named Marcus as ah bloody soddin? torment.?

Teeth were bared as pale green eyes flashed with that spark of unchecked fury as she shook her head, folding her arms across her chest as she hunched and took a step out from under Jeb?s umbrella. Avy more then anything at this moment preferred the rain to the shelter of the man?s umbrella. More then anything now she didn?t trust any of them, especially after she knew that they were the one?s responsible for the death of Marcus. He had been one of the few handlers that actually had compassion.

Fingers smoothed the wet gold strands out of her face as she frowned softly and chewed at the edge of her lip as she looked out past the cliffs. She had to get out of here.

?Sae whut are ye goin? tae dae now gel??

?Ah?m leavin? here.?

?Nae without anotha handler yer naut.?

?Look Jeb ah?m naut like tha rest of yer test rats. Whut ah am came natural tae me, ah was born with it and have existed with it fer far beyond tha lifetime of yer silly lil project. Donna ye ferget that. Ah?m naut like dem. Ah donna need tha drugs tae make me whut ah am.?

?Oh aye and we know exactly whut ye are lass.?

?And whut is dat, Jeb? Please enlighten me.?

?Nae matta whut name ye gae buh lassy, ye will always be tha original heartbreaker.?

A step was taken back and she snorted with a pointed look at Jeb before another step back. Some women just didn?t need wings to fly, but for now Avy wanted nothing more then to freefall. Even as she jumped from the cliff she could hear Jeb?s shouts of shock and fury. Arms spread out wide and head flung back she smiled at the freedom of it all. So this is what it felt like to feel alive?

~The Past: How to Ascend~

The fall, the descent, the grace of the leap from cliffs had left her heart to lift as Avy felt like she was doing nothing more then soaring. Even as she expected to hit the water hard the adrenaline rush kicked in when she eased through the water like scissors cutting through fabric. Only then would she shed the glamour and dispose herself to the truth within.

When she resurfaced she found herself finding stars and she smiled with relief. Far away from the cliffs now there were no eyes that would find her, no matter how hard they would search? and she knew they would.

The names had fallen away with her descent and the crushing pressure of the waves against her skin seemed to wash away the past with every ebb and tide. How many years had she lived with the mistakes weighing on her soul even as the nature of her belief in honor and love had plagued her.

She had been intended for as long as she had known as the King?s consort and did not expect to ever become fond of him. Even still as time went by she found herself caring for the King and starting to learn the nature of how to love a man she was intended for by politics only.

It had been a promising winter when Avy thought back on those days so many years and centuries ago that it near did not feel as her life. The coming of the spring though had destroyed all she found possible when she had met the man that the King near considered as a bond brother, a best friend, a son, and a confidante. From the first moment Avy had set eyes upon the man so important to the King her heart had betrayed her.

She had loved them both to the point she near had died for the other she risked everything for. Her mind, heart, and body had betrayed her in the ways she never would regret and yet she loathed still for harming the heart and trust of the King.

Closing her eyes, Avy dipped deeper into the water as if to wash herself clean of all the past sins. Fingers combed through the sun gold of her hair and she shot out of the water and into the sky as if tempting to touch the stars.

In that moment the sun gold of her hair bled to a memory of fire and blood. Changed again it was only in this moment that she knew what it would be to live again, to start over. Taken to the stars she flew as easy as a bird on the breeze, a fire bird in the night. This was not dying? but learning to live again

~Not so Long Ago:Where is the Key to your Heart?~

She was dripping wet and somber as she walked the rain soaked streets of the city. Eventually her boots took her far from the city and on to the off beaten path. Avy could feel the rhythm of magic thriving through her bones and shining in her blood even as boots found no longer asphalt or concrete but instead mud.

Her teeth were bared in a canary eating smile as the pale green of her eyes sparked with mirth. It was tell tale in all her stories that curiousity would ever get the best of her. Today was no different as she entered the carnival, the festival faire of those that claimed themselves as part of the Renaissance.

So often before she would avoid such places for the memories that surfaced yet this time she longed for them. Easily enough she could blend in as her fingers would chase ribbons and her eyes would soak in bright colors.

A delicate dance of laughter joined in a chorus of joy from those that surrounded that sweet sound of ladyship mirth drew her forward. Her hands shoved the crowd aside to make space for her slender figure.

The sound was so familiar even if nothing more then artificial and fake. Once she had laughed just the same. The dress was breathtakingly beautiful and the woman wearing it very much the same.

Her hair though was not the shining wheat gold of sunshine, her eyes not the green of the forgotten lands, the homelands. Avy's breath caught in her throat as she stiffened when she saw a man approach the beautiful Queen.

His back, the toned confidence, his walk was what had her pushing forward to see if it truly was him that had joined her once more on this land.

Could he truly have been so bold to play the part of the one who had almost brought her to burn for sheer love of him?

Her fingers curled against the shoulder of a woman close by to her. A whisper of shock and disbelief.

"Tell me good lady, who is the lady?"
"The lady... are you serious? That is Guinevere."

The name once spoken had Avy clenching her teeth even as the scoff of disdain could not be restrained.

"Then the man beside her?"
"Lancelot of course."

The girl's eyes rested on Avy as if she was from another planet to not know so well the story. A pity the girl did not realize just how well Avy knew the story as it was her own.

"Lancelot?"

Her voice had grown bold over his name and it summoned the man to look over his shoulder. He was perfection in every right and way save for one flaw she could not forgive. His eyes were the brown of the earth and not the azure she sought.

The reality of it cut her like a knife as she turned and ran from that gathered group through their whispers and murmurs and laughter. Her tears blinded her but she needed to escape this place as the truth cut into her once more.

She was without him in this life...
