Tormay Eludes

Alright, it wasn't all bad, Tormay winced as he raised the glass of juice for a sip, I did learn a few things. Mum is a lot tougher than even I thought. Julian wasn't always cool. He was a little on the dense side, go figure, another shot of pain as he shifted in his chair, Maybe I should apologize to Maelin. It isn't his fault I got hurt.

"You ready? I got the box ready for you, and you need to leave before I wake you up."

Tormay looked up at Maelin and nodded, "Should be enough time to get there and patched up before I leave. Can't have Mum knowing what happened."

Maelin chuckled as he set the box down on the coffee table in front of Tormay before he asked, "How long are you going to keep it from her?"

"Like you said, can't interfere, and that would be."

"Speaking of, do you remember Vienna?" After a nod, Maelin continued, "I think we did interfere that time."

"Nope, different reality, doesn't count. Besides, that woman needed help. If we didn't do anything, she could have gotten hurt, or died even."

"Even so, twelve generations later-" the sigh from Maelin showed he knew Tormay was right this time, "Hey, do you know who Hitler is?"

Tormay shook his head, wondering why it should matter.

"Ok, just do me a favor and don't ever study Earth history, you don't want to know who got to live because we saved her. You going to be ok on your own with that box and getting to the hospital?"

A raised eyebrow was all the answer Tormay gave before he got up slowly from the chair. He finished the juice before picking up the box with his good arm and heading slowly to the door, "Make yourself at home. I have what, three hours to deliver this and get patched up?"

Maelin nodded, "Yes, a little longer than that. Should be plenty of time. What is your story going to be with your injuries?"

"Oh, that. Today is Friday, so I can't say it was training with Argus. That was yesterday, and it was only a dance lesson anyway," he paused in the doorway to look back at Maelin, at a loss on how to explain it away, "You got any good ideas?"

"Sure do, when was the last time you went to the Castle? Could just say that you were up there getting ready for the big day, and on the way home you got attacked. Give me something valuable to take with me when I leave to make it believable."

"Well, my hand is full, just take my money pouch," with a nod to the kitchen, "I left it back there. There isn't much in there, but it will do, don't you think?" Before he got an answer he was out the door and off to the clinic to drop of the package like he promised, giggling like he heard a good joke.

Tormay Eludes

"Tormay, wake up, I will have been here in twenty minutes to pick you up. The big one this time."

Sitting up straight, he looked right at Maelin with big eyes, "Seriously? You are ready to go back there and see it now?" once his mind wrapped around the tense combination that Maelin used, he realized what was meant, "Oh, you already have been there. Now I just got to get ready so that when you get here, I can go with you. I mean, when you will have been here."

"Right, don't forget your armor this time. In my rush, I won't be remembering to tell you that you need it. Before I go, what were you dreaming about? You were mumbling about coffee or something."

"Ugh, the Inn didn't have any juice or wine or anything good. They were only serving coffee! It was horrible!"

"Right... I'll, uh... Let you get ready. I am off. By the way, I hope you won't be missing this," he held up the money pouch, "You will tell me it is ok to take this. You'll understand when it happens. I'll be back in a few weeks. We can sit down and talk or something." with a smile Maelin was gone, off to whatever reality or time that had his next interest.

First things first, Tormay bounced up to the attic to gather a few things; the light chain armor he had with him ever since he left with Maelin from Atrebla, his mess kit, bedroll, and pack. From there, he went to Krollen's room, as he thought of it, and walked quietly over to the stand with the crystal sword.

Another adventure already? Weren't you going to take a break from this for a while? Tormay smiled as the crystals sang in his head, the sword thrummed with color as it did.

"I was taking a break. Maelin decided it was time to see his father," he removed the sword from its place only after explaining the situation. The sword did have a habit not to cooperate unless it deemed it necessary.

Very well, I shall protect you as needed.

"As you always have," Tormay sighed as he sheathed the blade, the brilliant colors and lights now hidden away.

Sword strapped to his belt, he headed down to the front sitting room, making a side trip to the kitchen to grab a hunk of cheese, some bread, and a pitcher of apple juice. With those set up on the table, he occupied his chair to wait for Maelin to appear.

Just before he would be bouncing from impatience and excitement, there Maelin was, standing just in front of the door and then walking over to Tormay, "Good, you're already awake! Here, you need this," he tossed a fresh looking Atrebla infantry uniform over the back of the couch opposite the table, "Hey, nice spread you got there, I'm famished!"

"Help yourself," Tormay grinned as he bounced from the chair to gather the uniform.

Having swallowed his first few bites of the bread, Maelin managed to speak again, "I see you have your armor, make sure you put the uniform on over that," he pointed at the pile of stuff Tormay had gotten together, "Hey, how come you are ready already? Am I going to tell you before I got here?"

"Yes, don't forget to tell me to get my armor either."

"Good idea, I didn't think about it until I saw it there."

Tormay grinned, despite having to dissolve his wings, as he pulled the armor over his head, and put on the uniform over it. Then he took a seat in his chair again to help eat breakfast, "So what is the plan? We are going to Atrebla before we poof I take it to make sure we end up in the right place." After a quick nod from Maelin, a confused look came over Tormay's face, "How are we supposed to get there? It's the middle of winter. Can't just ride a horse out there, and the main portal isn't exactly reliable either."

"That's simple; you think a chronomancer like me won't know the perfect timing to use a simple portal?"

"When are we leaving then?"

Maelin gave a knowing smile as he took a long drink from his glass of juice, "I think about now would do well."
