Zara had no lantern. The tunnel was dark, the sun light now behind them. Delan walked at her side at the same pace. They had no issues with seeing in the dark. The moment they walked in to the cave Zara's eyes adjusted. True she had not grown up in the tunnels of Abban but like many drow kin she could see just fine in the darkness. But that didnt mean she had to like it.

She did miss the sun already. The sound of the birds. It would be night soon, she could tell by the change in temputre in the tunnel.Since they were still close enough tot he cave entrance . That alone would provide the time of day for now, once they got deeper she knew the days and nights would bleed together. Heading east, as directly as possible. Shed run in to no touble in these tunnles when running from Renald and the other slavers. But she hadnt gone that deep.

In Abban there had been dangers. Ruvyn had told her of them all. Orcs,goblins.The least of their worries. There were giant insect like things that crawled the lower and higher reaches. Though at the moment the tunnel wasnt that high. If she reached up she could touch the tunnel ceiling. It was wide, at least the size of ten people standing side by side.

There were other creatures they might come across,beings that were golum like creatures. There was also cave trolls,or ither such beasts. She choose her footing carefully,trying to pass through the tunnels as quickly as possible. If they could avoid danger it would make this long dakr journey better. They walked on in to the deeping dark.

A smile crossed her features as they entered a massive round tunnel with three connecting ways in or out. In the center were cyrstals ones like shed seen in Abban.Purple,white and dull blue.She recalled what Ruvyn had said about them. She pressed her fingers to them. " I saw these in Abban.. Ruvyn told me about them" She stated to Delan who was looking at the large crustals.

"The white ones grow all over Abban, they say it is an honor to have them in your room, they offer focus for all things. The purple ones are amethyst, most coveted among those whom worship the dark lady Eilitraee. The ones that are blue, glow blue they light the darkness ,you can also tell the hour outside by them. At night they are brighter" The blue glow was bright,it lit the full open cavern.

There were many purple ones, and some white ones around the outer edge of the massive opening, but in the center of the room was one large dull blue one and it glowed brillantly."We should camp here tonight.." She crossed closer to the crystals. "The light will keep the tunnel creatures if there are any away from us." Delan nodded.

The cave was warmer than Zara figured it would be.She had folded her cloak and gloves inside her travel bag. They built a low fire,and again dug in to the rations. "We may have to forage for some mushrooms tomorrow. And although they arent the best eatting we may need to hunt cave rats. Delan nodded looking from her to the glowing cyrstals.

In the gloom of the cave Delans eyes were like liguid silver again,with that deep hidden flame behind them. He watched the surround tensely as they ate. "Your not used to tunnels are you?" She asked softly if she didnt keep her voice low it would echo. He had meantioned nothing of tunnels upon his home isle,and she knew there were no tunnels out at sea, where hed been for a while chasing slavers, till he ended up in Teien, then Rhydin. Perhpas in his jounreys hed been inside a cave or two, most travles would seek their shelter. But these deep tunnels were very different. They reminded Zara of Abban.

Delen looked back to Zara for a long quiet moment, before he relaxed a bit. "Just trying to keep my mind off of what happened earlier is all." Honestly answering her as he started to eat slowly again, as he glanced from her to the glowing crystals again. Enjoying the peacefullness that seemed to be within the cave with them. It was a nice moment to relax in.

Another glance to Zara for a moment, before he suddenly leaned towards her and kissed her cheek. Not saying anything as he leaned back to finish the food. Before moving to lay down on his sleeping bag, with his hands moving behind his head.

That made since to her, she didnt want to think about it either. The looming fear of the dragon.But there in the glow of the crystals they could rest easy.

They only stayed till dawn. Then they made sure nothing was left to tell the tale that they were there. Zara kept her barrings well heading East through the next tunnel. On her way in to these tunnels from the west shed not crossed these crystals. She looked to the over tunnles that led out from where they had made their camp. She was following more than just a hunch. The flow of fresh air though faint told here which way was right.

As they walked along Zara wondered if the dragon was still about up above. It had been a full day and night now since it had chased them in here. Perhaps it had moved on. But she wasnt going to risk it,going above was a chance at the moment they couldnt take.

The crystals and their dull blue glow faded from view. Zara would never get used to the darkness all the time. Though she could see just fine ,it was gloomy. Delan seemed to sense her distriss and took her hand in his. " I miss it too, the feel of the sun, the sound of birds." Zara nodded, " it will be a long while before we see the sun again, or hear birds." Delan nodded, " the dragon is out there, I am sure of it.. waiting for us." She knew he wanted nothing more than to forget that beast.

They walked on through mid day,their pace was not too fast,just fast enough to make it a few good miles. The tunnel twisted and turned, but never linked up with any others. It rose and fell in inclines and dips. Now and again a small opening would be seen on one side or the other, some small hole for something to live. The walls were cold though the air inside was warm. In their trek Zara killed two cave rats . They were the size of a small cat, black or brown, with big front teeth and a long tail. They didnt look very good nor smell very good. Delan picked mushrooms, after Zara told him which ones to look out for.

Then again a night fall or when they figured night had fallen they took up rest there in the tunnel made a small fire and ate their meal. Zara was used to the off flavor of cave rats, they were dry, and nearly flavorless. The mushrooms added some flavor to the meal. But there would be no getting around it, rations wouldnt last them forever.

Zara snuggled in to Delans side that night as they lay half way back against a fallen stone. "When were free of this place wew will go hunting for real food. "He looked to the bones fo the cave rats and shuddered. "I dont much like those.." Zara had to chuckle a little. " Yes, tasteless little ugly things.. but we need to save our rations, we dont know how long we will be down in these tunnels." Delan nodded.

It was later when Zara woke to find Delan gone. She shot up from her rest and was about to call out to him. But then she saw him at the end to the tunnel.The fire was out, his weapons with him. Zara drew up her bow back over her arm and went to join him. They never took their swords or daggers off.Nor their wuivers, everythign was kept close at hand. Bows usually were laid side by side within reach. "What is it?" She crept beside him.

"I woke before, hearing a sound. I thought it might be more cave rats.. but look." He motioned with his bow . The tunnel they were in stopped there and dropped many miles down. There were rope bridges and natural rock bridges linking up tunnels across the way. And below them, a city.

"Drows?" Zara peered in to the gloom that was now lit by brightly glowing blue crystals below them. " No drow made this city.." He pointed to a bunch of workers. "Dwarves.." Zara breathed , she knew that in these moutnians there were likely serval dwarven camps but this was a large city. "They must be mining out the gold, or silver from The Bailion. " Delan looked down around more, there were forges, and homes, shops and cobbel like streets. And at the far end sun light. "They are traders and miners.."

He motioned to the light coming from the end of the cavern,it was dulling moon light. . Zara nodded. "We could be spotted, dwarves and drow have not always gotten along.there has been tension between the two speices for centries. " Delan nodded and pulled his hood over his head and face. "Dwarves and elves get along fine though." Zara nodded. "Yes, but if they think were radiers they will not like me either."She was quick to pull her cloak from her bag and put it on, only shifting her quiver and bow as she did so.

"It is dawn." The light from the cyrstals started to fade the light out side growing brighter. "They will move then, and so should we. Across the way on to the east."

Zara

So they perched there high above watching the small donkeys and carts with dravwes walk along to the way out. Zara led the way across the rope bridge quickly and quietly.When they reached the other side Zara made sure the tunnel was empty before they continued on.

With the dwarven city behind them Zara lowered her hood. But Delans kept his up. Now their tunnel spilt off to the north, and south. Zara continued east. The sound of mining echoed in the deep. She was not prepared however to come across passing dwarves..

There were six of them, all ahead of them minning the walls, they took down the mighty purple crystals and the white ones but left the bigger blue ones. Only smaall blue ones were eased in to the cart. Then Zara saw them pull gold, and silver both from the deep crevice they made. At least the three on the right did the three on the left pulled something larger from the wall. It looked like iron or steel, darker in color but when a dwarf ran his fingers over it it gleamed. "Its a mithral mine.." Zara whispered to Delan. They had no way around the dwarves so Zara lowered her hood. "Stay behind me, keep your hood up, your hands hidden.They may just think us two passing elves..." Delan nodded.

"Vedui' tura Naugrimin, " She spoke in elvish knowing no dwaven. She bowed softly and the six dwarves stopped in their mining. One stepped forward. They were all males, all with different colored beards, they all wore similar clothing, and heavy gloves. "Greetin your self.. elf. " He then looked behind Zara. "Elves.." Zara kept in her bow. " We do not wish to hinder your progress master miner.. but we need to pass through on our way to the east." The dwarf looked at her hard. "Where ye comin from?" "Cindeigh." ]"And where ye be goin?" "Hael, to meet with some friends."

"Why are ye in our tunnels."One behind the first shouted. "We were chased with in b a mighty flying beast, a dragon.. attacked us." That made the dwarves all of them stare at Zara. "The rumors are true!" They shouted. "Hush ye all." The first dwarf said. " Who is your silent friend?"Looking to Delan.

" My husband, he is mute. Long ago he was taken by slavers and his tounge cut out.. he commuticates with his hands." She knew Delan had heard every word. "Why does he not show his face?" The first asked inching closer. "He was horribly burned, by the same slavers and the cave has made his skin become worse, so he has been with in his cowl for several days now,Hael holds a good healer so we go to seek him. " The main dwarf nodded seeming sad now. "I am sorry for your loss lass, I am Birg StoneHand, these are me boys.. Olt Moremine, Jar Cliffweave, Pwelt Jackknife, Migrig Hornhand. and my own son.. Cordio StoneHand. "The five other dwarves bowed . Zara nodded to them all,she knew she could never tell them her true name, in fear they might have heard of her. She had been well known in these mountians when running from the slavers. "I am R?n?w?n Aelin, and this is my husband Traeliorn Aelin ."

"Well Miss Aelin, nice to be meeting ye, your welcome to pass through." The dwarves moved aside and Zara reached back to take Delans hand. Hed put on a pair of brown gloves. She nodded to them all and led Delan away. "Come my love, we can press on. " Delan followed her, hed hidden his weapons inside his cloak now.So they wouldnt be stopped.

Zara kept moving till they were two miles from the dwarves. The echos of mining had been left behind and she could tell they had not come this far in to the tunnel. It wasnt yet dark out, she could tell by the low glow of the small blue crystals in the walls. "That was close.." She looked back to Dela who now lowered his hood and put his weapons back in their rightful place. He had that look on his face like he was about to laugh. She wondered what he found so funny.

Zara

Date: 2010-11-14 23:56 EST
He winked at her and kept on walking. "Whats so funny?" She asked as they walked through the tunnels. "You called me your husband. But would you love a man like you described, mute with a burned and ruined face..?" She stoped in her walk and eyed him. "If that man was you, yes.."

He linked his hand with hers and walked on. "It was the only way they would have let us pass."He nodded. "Then if we should pass any more dwraves am I to be your husband then as well?" She smiled a little but didnt answer.

They kept on their walk till the blue crystals shown brightly. They were within a deep tunnel the air had grown cooler.

~~~
Around a small fire they sat eating mushrooms and cave rats. "I miss the tatse of fresh good meat and veggies."She tossed the rest of the rat bones in to the fire. Delan nodded doing the same. "How long till Hael?" She shrugged, there was no way to tell how far Haelw as now, they were to deep. "It could be days or weeks away. Were too deep I can't tell. " They were at least still heading the right way.
It always amazed Zara that she slept so weel there in the tunnles. But then Delanw as there beside ehr holding her through the night. She always enjoyed waking beside him wth him already awake and looking down at her. Though this jounrey was hardly her favorite part of the way home, she was enjoying her time there with Delan.
~~~

They kept on their way at dawn.Treking to the east tot he best of the knowledge.

They walked hand in hand when they could and always on alert.

Zara

"This is bad." She whispered ducking down low amoung the stalagmites. Delan knelt besdie her in the darkness. "Cave trolls... and goblins." They had come to another large open cazum, but this time there were trolls and goblins below not friendly dwarves.

The dwarves had been easy. Zara had been able to pass them by,with out any fight. But they would not be able to pass these by. There were hudnreds of Goblins, maybe two dozen trolls that they could see from their vantage point. Zara sighed, glad she had changed in to her all black clothing the eve before. "We wont be able to pass them by. Not undetected." Delan nodded. Zara pulled the collar of her shirt up over her blue lips and pale chin. With her gloves on and hood pulled over er face she looked much like a cloaked drow.

Delan smirked. "Ahh I see hoping that the goblins may let two drows pass?" Zara shrugged, "maybe or at least fear them enough to let them go by. " Delan looked back down in to the cazum. "We may not get through this with out a fight Zara."He motioned with his hand and she saw them now, orcs, she couldnt count how many had come in through a far tunnel and the goblins were lining up. "The orcs are in charge.." It wasnt uncommon for orcs to inslave those they concitered to be lesser races.

"Theres no other way across, and sooner or later they will patrol the tunnles." Delan nodded and tapped his blades. "Then we wait, once they start patrol we move, shadow them if we can,try to get across the way and out of their area as fast as possible."Zara nodded, so they would wait.

Zara

Date: 2010-12-11 23:49 EST
They didnt have to wait very long. A half hour passed and the goblins were on the move. Sent out the first line of defense. Golbins were lower in staus to Orcs, but they could fight and die well. Zara and Delan hid as the first patrols passed them they followed like shadows.

When the goblins went back down to the city. The two elves moved on throught he tunnles shadowing other patrols. They were lucky so far.

They were nearly clear Zara could tell by how the patrols moved that soon they would be free from shadowing the stinky little creatures. But then suddenly the patrol thy had been followinf turned towards them and ran. Not in attack but in retreat. The goblins didnt even notice them or if they did they didnt care.

Delan looked ahead in to the tunnle. Goblins were dumb, not really. Theyw ere juste asily convinced by laregr beings. As he peered in to the blackness he saw it coming.It was long, at least six feet, it had six legs three on either side. It crawled along quickly,darting after fleeing cave rats.Its head was massive, as large as the bolders it passed.

Large mandibles reached out snapping,and a nice set of sharp teeth when it opened its jaw. A horn like hook hung off its short stubby nose, and a long tail hung up above its body. That tail had a similar hook on its end. Zara drew her bow and fired at the massive thing that came crawling their way, the arrow though enchanted by ice boucned right off its hard shell.

"Thats not going to work."Delan cried and drew out hiw swords. They were alive with fire the next moment and Zara had to shield her eyes. The creature let out a loud screech.That rocked Zara to her core. It shot out at Delan with those massive mandibles. It seemed to be scared of the fire. Zara had never seen this type of creature before. But it made sense that if would fear fire. For it lived in the deep darkness. She coudlnt summon fire. Only Ice, but ice could be bright as fire. If anything she could help Delan fight, if not with sword or bow than with magic.

As Delan slashed at the creature she focused on the few small blue crystals that barely glowed at all and they got brighter and brighter, that wuld help to blind the creature.

Zara

Date: 2011-01-05 23:07 EST
With the creature blinded Delan moved in with speed and grace atop the mighty beast slicing down at it with one sword while blocking the swinging tail witht he other. "Zara.. take out the tail." That massive bubous tail end squrimed and shooka nd dripped a ozzing substance that smelled terrible.

As Delan continued to slash with the bright light nearly blinding him as well. Zara darted up over a fallen stalagmite tot he wall where she ran .Nible and graceful she flipped in her thrid stride to come down atop the creature. Delan flipped back on tot he ground to distract the mighty beast with his spinning flameing swords.He cut and slashed and dodged.

She moved along the creatures back as it lashed out at Delan. In the last of the blinding light Delan managed to cut off one of the creatures six legs. It cried out in pain, the sound echoed off the walls and stung Zaras ears.

Fire bit at the creatures body through its thick outter shell. But even with her powers over only ice, Zara trusted her sword. Whic she drew now as she koved carefully down the creatures back. delan was good at distractions. He slashed at it, parried against its large madables and pulsing tail. Zara heard him curse and loked back to see the creature tear at his face with its sharp mandable. A thin cut there on his cheek, amde Delan all the more angry.

She made her move then a long squick slash powered through with ice from ehr hands. The balde cut through the shell,skin and muscle. The creature cried out and tried to wiggle Zara off its back but she was far to nible to fall, she used the force of the wiggle to push the cut onward throught he bone, deepening the cold shock. The creature cried again the sound was ear piercing.

Her sword cut through bone all the way, back through muscle and skina nd that hard outter shell, the tail fell forward the bubous end pulsing on the ground. The creature cired out againa nd reared up tossing Zara head over heals in to the darkness.

Delan sturck at it again and again with his swords each cut lit the creatures stomach on fire, each cut went through the hard shell skin and muscle. The smell was terrible. But the creature fought on snapping at Delan enarly getting him caught. But a bright light flashed by in to the creatures flank then in to one of its eyes.

It danced around on its back legs as more arrows flew by and burst in tot he hard shell with magical ice. Delan smiled looking past the creature to a bloody, grimmy Zara bow in hand. He used this time to make te killing move bounding up over fallenr ocks he slashed and struck with one blazing white sword so hot with fire. The hit struck home in to the creatures ehart the fire spred as Delan withdrew tumbling away to the wall.

"Delan!?" The fire started to grow and crack,t he beast screeked. Then suddenly she was knocked back and soemthing covered her. She then relaised it was Deln protexting her form the fire which burst out from the creature sending goo, and blood all over them.

It exploded again as he rose lifting her to her feet.They fled down the tunnle jsut as the beast expoloded again.

Covered in grime,sweat, and blood both their own and the creatures as well as a sticky green ooze they looked to one another and Zara just chuckled. Delan smirked softly, "well were both alive.."She nodded "Lets get out of here and try to find some where to wash up." He smirked tot hat and they walke don as the creature behind them still burned.

Zara

Date: 2011-01-13 23:04 EST
Later after they were washed, changed and well fed they sata round a small fire. "We make a good team."She smiled to him as they lay there nose to nose. "Aye we do." He kissed her softly, and she returned that kiss with great vigor. "Giving me my reward fine lady?" She chuckled softly, " you bested the beast, with my help." He nodded, "Aye..a shared reward then?" She smirked to the look on his face, even after all that being with him reminded her to relax and live in the moment. "A shared reward."

It had been too long. Much too long since she felt his kisses trail over her body.Since his eyes lingered on her eyes,then over her body spred out before him. Too long since they had last been together.

Day and night were getting easier to distinquish. Delan was catching on to it as well, .The night was lit up by the blue cyrstals,like little stars in the blackness. Thedays were warmer, and although no crystals glowed they foudn their way easly. Zara wondered if this was beacuse they were both creatures born to darkness. The drow. Drow kin could se very well in the dark of the deepest tunnels and caves. No elf nor human could see as well.

There were dangers here, but there was beauty as well. From the citys they had seen, both dwarven and golbin kind. To the tunnles both hand craved by fine miners and made by running waters.

They moved throught he day light hours, kowing that soon Hael would be in view. No longer would they have to eat cave rats and mushrooms. They would have their fill of fine food and drink once at The Clover Inn.

The smell of the earth was alla round them, so musky and deep.

With every passing step Zara moved knowing the people of Eyllis needed her. Delan moved as if he knew his fmaily was there as well under the careful watch of the Collector.His sisters,mother and possibly even his father. All captive for so long. He held ont o hope, so did she. She could not let worry burry her down. She had to keep going for her friends and family.

As they walked she knew she was ucky to have him by her side. ALone she woudlnt have made it this far. No alone she would have died long ago,by the dragons claws or the masive sting of that insect they killed hours ago.

To fail meant that her family and his would die. That Eyllis would die under the slave trade. No one would be safe.. and all that was green and all those that were good would be gone. So on ward tot he west they treked through the day and mot of the next night.

Zara

Date: 2011-01-26 00:57 EST
The depths were darker, made more by nature thna by dwarf or drow slaves. The night had come, the blue crystals shown brightly all around them. They had rested,eatten, and moved on. Zara leading now. Delan close behind her. She could feel his eyes on her and would look over to see him smirk. They could light a torch, but that might draw unnessarry eyes. So they walked on the the blue glow.

Zara stopped suddenly. The tunnel ended and there was a long drop below. There was no bridge here, no way around. Had she gone the wrong way? She sniffed the air again. Delan looked down it was a sloped dropp and at the bottom another tunnel entrance. There was no other way out but that or going back.

"I didnt expect this."She looked down. "Its a long way." Delan wasnt looking at her though he looked up. His sword was drawn. Zara reached for her bow expexting a large bat or perhaps another creature of the caves. relong thred was something. Its eyes were like dinner plates large and yellow green. It stared down at them. "Another demon of the dark?"Delan guessed. Zara shrugged. The thing just watched them,then let out a low hiss. But it didnt attack it withdrew. Zara didnt understand why until Delan pulled her back hard and a cross bow bolt thudded in to the wall.

Looking down she saw them. Drow Kin. "They dont seem friendly." Delan muttered. Zara sighed the would have to double back and quickly before the drows could levitate up to them. "Lets go.." Away they went down the tunnel they had just come and this time Zara made a left instead of a right. She could hear the drows coming now down the passage they had feld.

They were now running ,they would be out numbered,yet likely not out skilled. But most drows fought dirty. So on ward they ran.

They found a small out cove tunnle to hide in. They sat clsoe totgerher and watched through the darkness. "Perhpas we lost them..." Delan offered. "Or perhaps that creature above us got to them." He smirked to that. They made no fire and would not eat nor sleep.

~~
When it as day above they treked on. The blue crystals no long glowing. No signs of drows anywhere. But the smell had changed, from deep earth and wet soil to that of fresh air.

Do you smell that?"Zara asked as they pressed on . Delan nodded. "Were closer, another day maybe?" As they walked on they soon found the light, but it was not ahead of them it was above them pooling down through a large natrual chimmeny. The rush of light and air was wonderful. But it also put thing sin perspextive.The air was chill and a few snow flakes drifted down the shaft. "Its winter.."

It had taken a full month, a month! To get this far, and they had no clue how much longer it would take to get through the Bailion to Hael. Zara wondered how long the people of Eyllis could wait.

Zara

Date: 2011-01-26 00:59 EST
She felt down trotten,defeated by these dark tunnles with their monsters and mayhem. She longer to linger there in the light and fresh air, but they had to press on. Delan had basked for a moment taken a few deep breaths of the cool fresh air then continued on.Zara soon followed. He knew his way now, they had been down here long enough for him to know which was was north,south, east was ahead of them and west was behind.

"We can not loose hope,Zara."He said a while alter as they walked in the darkness. "Eyllis is waiting for us, your family and mine need us." he took her hand and they walked on.

Day turned to night and the glow of the crystals shown brightly blue. They walked on at a steday pace not making camp, not stoping to eat nor drink.Everything was done on the march. They came to a break, the tunnle broke off in to three ways.Delan pointed tot he right one before she could say a word. Yes he was becoming good at knowing his way with no sun or stars to guide him.

They were not alone there. For a mile now they had been followed by soft footfalls, not heard by either elf. Zara was about to say something,the hairs on the abck of her neck stood up,somethign was amiss ahead. But before she could voice this a globe of darkenss descended over both their heads. Any normal elf wouldnt have been able to see within, but Zara could. Delan could as well. Both had their weapons drawn whent he globes lifted there stood thrity drow elves, cross bows leveled on them, blades drawn.

Zara looked around, these were the same drows theyd seen a few miles back. They ahd followed them and cut them off. She held up her gloved hands, "Vedui' il'er."She bowed greeting the drows in elvish.

" Ply'uss nina." They spoke in drow. That lessoned Zaras hopes that they had udnerstood her, but she understood them. It was all to clear. "They mean to take us captive." There were at least thrity darke lves there, there would be no hope of fighting their way out of this. Delan sheathed his blades,Zara did as well. They were taken with force back the way they had come and down the tunnel to the south.

Zara

They were placed in a small room, their wepaons were not tkaen from them though.Zara wondered why. "Maybe they mean to take us to some warriors arena?" Delan offered. " No, no female I know of ever in any drow city can be a warrior. They could want you for that... but not me."

The hours passed, day was gone, night was above. The glow from the blue crystals grew more. "Maybe they mean to starve us to death." Zara looked about the small room. "Not the style of most drow kin, but possible."

"Tayna naa N'thenin." Came a male voice the words were in elvish not in drow. In stepped a tall male, he was like many other drow males shed known. He walked with a confidence that made Zara think he was the man in charge.

" Ya naa lle?" Zara asked. The male looked at her. " Who am I?"He spoke now in the common tongue which surpised Zara and Delan. " I should ask who you are?"

Zara looked to Delan, he nodded. "I am.." The male drow held up his hand. "Zara Idande of Ibaea, In Eyllis. And Delan Dulthaas of Shynt Raena. " Zara starred at the male. "How do you know us?" He stepped forward more in to the glow of the room, now Zara saw him better not so shadowed.

How he looked like Ruvyn!

Zara

Date: 2011-01-31 23:37 EST
"News had reached my ears about the two rangers in the tunnles." Had the drow been following them this long, long enough to know their names, but Zara knew they had never spoken a last name nor anything of Shynt Raena.

"You look like her, like Kalea." There was sadness in his voice. "You knew my mother?" He nodded, "I loved her, dispite what Ruvyn might have told you about me." Now he spoke her brothers name, who was this man?

He saw the look on Zaras face the fireceness in Delans eyes. "Forgive me, I am Riz Kenai Auvry."He bowed his head.

Zara

Date: 2011-02-08 23:31 EST
It could not be! Ruvyn had said he was dead. "But your not dead.. Ruvyn said..." Riz nodded, " I would have been dead, but I was saved by a drow from these very mountains. "

Her father was alive, her birth father there before her. "How is it Ruvyn doesnt know your alive?" Riz sighed, "I have not been home to Abban, not seen my son. None of my children. I knew of you Zara. I know what you must think of me.. and I know of your guest home, to save Eyllis from The Collector . Helkaer 'Ksher ."

"You know of him?" Riz nodded, "He is my half brother, your uncle.He was born to two houses like you, but his magic was stolen from a very powerful wizard rtaher than given to him by the grace of his mother. His name was once Erlan. He was raised on the surface like you were , near Snow Haven. But he became wicked with time. He sought me out once, nearly killed me. "He stode away. "I am afraid that he killed Kalea,after I left..after you were born "He sighed again. "He became more wicked taking slaves,moving off to the human lands.. he went to sea for some time in his youth took many slaves.." Delans head snapped up at that. "Yes He went to Shynt Raena. When I saw him last he had many female slaves from that isle. "

Delan rose quickly, "you must help us then,"He took Riz by the arm. "To save your son, your people and family.." Riz shook his head, "I can not help you...my place is here with the Bailion drow." "Atar...,"Zara looked to him, "Please, send some of your men with us then, the slavers could not endure an attack of so many."

Again he shook his head. "It is a two month walk to the east to Hael, the dragon still soars above the skys outside..I have seen him, the mighty male. Only the trail to Hael is safe, none others have been deemed safe. The Bailion Drow only travel at night... it is only that you were here that they were about at all..this day. I can not aid you. "

Zara sighed.

Riz looked to her. "I know I much to answer for, but your quest is to save Eyllis, and to that you must hold. I offer you both lodgings for the night, at dawn after a meal my men will lead you as far as they can ..then you'll be on your own."Zara looked to Delan they could use a good rest and meal. "Very well."

Riz had led them to a priavte chamber with a large bed, the night was upon them as the many crystals about glowed, there were many"houses" in the city of Bailion Drow. All lit up by blue crystals. Zara saw no signs of Lloth worshipers. No spiders nor pirstesses. Female drow walked about in the same mannor she did, like warriors. Some wore robes like a mage. "Eilitraee is who we send our prayers to. We try to keep the peace with the local dwarves and other kinds about, our warriors kill orcs, and trolls and aid the fine smiths of the mountian. "

Zara nodded. Riz looked to his daughter. Then to Delan. "I was wondering if you and I might speak.."He looked to Delan, they were the same height, nearly the same build. But Delans eyes were silver and withheld that deep fire. "Alone?"

Riz nodded, then snapped his fingers. Two female drow suddenly appeared. " These are Ayae and Csharynn. "Zara bowed to them. "Show Zara the sights of the city,and we will meet you in the hall when the moon is high." The females nodded. "This way lady Zara.." Ayae spoke she was short, wth very short silver hair and her eyes.. her eyes were green, not red.

Csharynn was tall, her hair was long, down her back in a braid, her eyes were ruby toned. Zara looked to Delan who nodded. Then she walked off with the two females. Looking back once at her father and Delan.

Riz led Delan along till they were in a large room behind closed doors. "This is my house, nothing like Auvry. But still mine. "

It was like a large complex of drow style buildings. ERiz walke dont hrough the massive enty hall where a scuplture of Eilitraee . She was lovely, naked save for a slight purple toned shift. Her hair silver along her back,her eyes to Delans amazment were the same tone as Zaras own.

There were natural stair ways ahead of them leading up and away, the hall continued on down in to the dim blue light. Riz stopped and turned to look at Delan.

"You love her.. my daughter yes?"

It was like a large complex of drow style buildings. Riz walked ont hrough the massive entry hall where a scuplture of Eilitraee . She was lovely, naked save for a slight purple toned shift. Her hair silver along her back, her eyes to Delan's amazement were the same tone as Zara's own.

There were natural stair ways ahead of them leading up and away, the hall continued on down in to the dim blue light. Riz stopped and turned to look at Delan.

"You love her.. my daughter yes?"

~~~
Delan was taking in the sights around him as Riz showed him around, before looking to the woman when she spoke of Zara. Taking note of the tone of her question, before he moved to continue on. " I do love your daughter very much. She is scared that I will leave her, though she has no need to fear that. I plan on staying by her side for as long as she wishes for me to be by her side." Turning to look at Riz, as if guessing that is what she really wanted to know.
Riz smiled lightly. Zara had not spoken a word to him about ehr feelings for Delan.Riz just knew beyond a doubt how his daughter was.
"Good..good.She will need you in the battles to come." They came through a large arched doorway in toa room it was large and square on the walls hung every possible weapon anyone could ever desire to have, of ever make in every metal. Bows of every type of wood, along with quivers and quivers of arrows.Enough for a massive army. "My war room, items collected over time. I saw that Zara carries with her Mori'quessir elg'cahl. Ruvyn must be in dire straights to have sent that to her. I know you both carry fine weapons, and bows enough things to easily coat with the posion. But I have something better."
He crossed the room towards the far back was a large gilded chest. He knelt before it and spoke in drow and the lid opened. He with drew a dagger and gauntlet. The dagger was sheathed ina simple yet some how elegant sheath. For anyone could see it flowed with magic. Riz slid the gauntlet on and then withdrew the dagger form its sheath. It was a lovely piece of craftmenship. The blade was red,the guard, hilt and handle were all mithral. "This dagger was given to me by my father.. "He spoke softly.
'The Collector . Helkaer 'Ksher ,Erlan as I once knew him, my half brother. He stole the power of a great wizard who lived in Snow Haven when he was justa boy, twisted even then. My father had this forged by the finest smiths, blessed one could say by powerful magics..then gave it to me.Thinking one day Erlan would seek me out.. but the day never came.. I was too late to save Zara's mother.. to late to hope to save the woman I loved. I am a rogue yes, I have loved many women in my many decades. But Kalea Ilri fills my memory most. She and Zara look much alike. "He shook off the memory.
"Zara could likely weild this dagger. It pusles with power, but it would harm her.. " Delan might notice the balde how it pusled with fire.. the very core seemed to burn red hot. Riz held it firm with his hand and arm in the gauntlet. "I even have issues with it, even with its mate on."Meaning the gauntlet. "I want you to take both."
He sheathed the dagger and took off the gauntlet. "You may not need the gauntlet... "Yes he knew Delans power. "But you should take it just incase. This dagger chath'ELGHINN. will be the death of Helkaer 'Ksher . Its essance is pure fire.. its blade will never dull nor need tending to.. and will cut through anything, even solid bone, or rock. Its a master against ice.." He held it out to Delan.
"I can not offer my men, I wish I could. But I offer you this,in hopes that it finds a home in Helkaer 'Ksher's black heart. You must make sure Zara never touches it unless shes wearing the gauntlet, it would kill her instantly with just one touch. This with Mori'quessir elg'cahl will be the tools you both need to win the war that is coming."
There were no words for what had happened. Supirse and shock were not good enough.
Her father was alive! Hed been alive for all these years, here in the Bailion. Zara didnt know what to think, for so long she thought him dead. What woulf Ruvyn think to learn this news?
The undercity of the Bailion was so different from what she expected. Blue crystals lit it up along with faeire fire which lit up the large undercity buildings built from soild rock. The Dark Lady Eilitraee was every where, scuptures,her face, the very essance of the goddess. Most amazing to Zara was that drow women, walked around as freely as the men did.
Many wore clothes of a warrior, some were dressed as mages and priestess. There were no slaves here, not men nor women, drows walked freely and treated each other with kidness. It was something shed never truly seen before. Female drows were often the heads of house holds, few males ever ruled, or held more than a low place amoung them. But here, here everyone even the children ran and walked freely.
Ayae and Csharynn led Zara around speaking softly to her about their home. Ayae, though slight of build was the warrior. her stepped didnt betray anything of her movements. She wore a warriors clothes,and wore a cross bow on her back. Csharynn was tall and lithe, she wore the robes of a mage or perhaps she was a priestess. They were both very friendly. They showed Zara about, and to her amazment.
Zara didnt get any long stares. "Are surface elves not unusual to the eyes of the Bailion Drow? " Ayae chuckled softly, " No, many here have seen surface elves before, many have taken surface elves as wives or husbands, we have a few mixed race children here." Seeminly proving her point a boy and girl ran across the way, one the girl clearly a drow with her dark skin, but her hair was silver,almost a green tone. The boy was sun kissed like Zara herself, his hair deep black. They ran on freely. "My niece and newphew." Csharynn spoke.
Zara had never known a place such as this. The two women led Zara on through the tunnles and mighty open caverns full of homes,temples and training areas. They walked trto what looked like a great hall. "Riz will meet you here." Ayae motioned towards a long table set out, with many chairs around it.
Zara looked backt o both women. "Thank you for showing me around. " They nodded to her and bowed then left. Zara took a seat and looked around wondering where Delan and Riz were and what they were up to.
~~~~

Delan followed Riz through the two double door, while looking around for a moment. A force of habit due to years of being on the hunt for the male that took his family from him at a young age. He then looked back to Riz as he started to speak.

A smile crossed his lips to how he spoke of Zara's mother. "I know how you feel. For I feel the same way about Zara, though she is the only woman I have ever loved in my short lifetime." Murmured as he had noted a painting Riz had of Kalea in that war room.

He was right. Zara looked almost as a perfect match for her mother, which had him wondering.. Did he look like his own father, a memory came to mind of his father..Before everything changed to being taught how to use bow and sword.

He snapped back to the present, as he looked to Riz and the offered dagger. Slowly he took the dagger, sheath and gauntlet. Attaching the dagger to his hip before slipping that gauntlet on. He would then draw the dagger to gather a weight and balance for it, only to jerk his head away as the dagger suddenly pulsed with raw power.

Turning the dagger from himself and Riz, as the fire within the blade roared to life. Reaching outwards till it was about the lenght of chath'ELGHINN. Once it reached that lenght, the fire retreated into the blade. Showing off the sword that was now there, still holding the core of red hot fire. Delan looked dumbfounded to Riz. Hoping he knew what had happened.

Riz watched as Delan took the dagger and gauntlet, slipping the gauntlet on. His eyes wavored to the painting of his long dead beloved. "Elves, even Drow elves are long lived. Immortal some might say. Now after all my long years I think, one man could love one woman all his life.. and be much the better for it. "He looked back.

Riz didnt seem surpised tos ee the dagger react to Delan as it had.Roaring to life quite fully. chath'ELGHINN knew its wielders. It responded to each person differently. "The dagger agrees with you, I have only ever seen it do that one other time."Looking to the sword Delan now held. " My father held much power, it did that for him, long before the blade was ever passed to me. chath'ELGHINN . Or Death by Fire as humans or other elves woudl say. Is one fo a kind, Its older than most any other weapon I have here. "

He paced away nodding to himself, or perhaps Delan, or maybe the painting of Kalea. He turned back towards Delan. " The dagger chooses who it wants, its not alive, not really. But it feels things, magic and power. It will respond to your style of fighting,with out you ever needing to pratice with it. It will be anything you wish it to be, dagger, short shor, long sword. Any style of blade. It may even do more than that. "

He smiled softly. "Use it well. "He looked towards the double doors which were closed. "I am sure Ayae and Csharynn have shown Zara all that is fit to see, she is likly waiting for us in the great hall. We should go, join her, have some food, drink. "

"There you two are." She looked between Ruz and Delan looking thick as theives. Riz smiled over at his daughter. "Sorry, we were just talking a bit. Come lets eat."

There was enough food for ten men. Yet it was just them three. Zara filled her plate may times over. Starving after weeks of nothing but mushrooms and cave rats. Here there was wild boar,deer, fresh greens, herbs, fish, mushrooms of coarse as they were always around. But there were carrots,peas, potatoes. Mugs of frothy ale or mead. Glasses of dark Morimatra, drow spiced wine,. Thin tall glasses of elven rose wine as well as Saerloonian Glowfire, the pale wine with the taste of pears.

They feasted and talked, though Zara had a feeling the two were as thick as theives and not telling her what they had spoken of. She did not the new addition to Delans side. The dagger even from a mere glance made her feel heat. She had a feeling it was some sort of gift from Riz.

They spoke of home, of their travels. Of places Riz had never been, nor would likely see again.

When he left them to retire for the night. Zara felt as if he had more to say to her, but was unsure how to do it.

Zara

When they came back to their room to retire. Zara did not question Delan about the new addition to his weaponry. She felt as if it had been something between Riz and Delan.

" We are to leave tomorrow." Said as she lay down beside him. "We could stay longer.I know you wish to learn more about this place, and your father." Zara nodded, she did wish to learn more. "Every day we tarry, Eyllis and its people die. If we survive the coming fights.I will return to learn more about this city and my father."

"When we survive." He sounded very sure that they would live to adventure again. She smirked at him. "Are you going to tell me what you and my father spoke about?Or do I have to guess?"

Delan smirked at her and with drew the dagger in its sheath from his side he was still wearing the new gautlet. "He gave me this. chath'ELGHINN . Or Death by Fire. And its gautlet which is supposed to protect the wearer from harm. " Zara looked at the fine dagger. She did not need him to tell her not touch it, she already knew. "A powerfull weapon. He gave it to you beacuse its a fire sword,and it will kill Helkaer 'Ksher ." Delan nodded and tied laid the dagger in it sheath beside the bed along with the gauntlet. "Your father gave it to me,and the dagger reacted to my touch as he ahs not seen in some time. He said that this dagger was meant to kill Helkaer. So that must mean I am meant to kill him."

Zara crossed over to him,padding across the floor bare foot. "Along with
the drow posion my brother sent me.. we should be able to get clsoe to him. But we will have to figure out how to ge in to Eyliss."

Delan nodded and wrapped his arms about her and tugged her close. "We will find a way." She smiled up at him. His warm fingers brushed along her cheeks and through her hair.

During the night while Zara slept, Delan had slipped out of the bed and moved out onto the balcony of their room. Shirtless as he let the cool night air caress his skin, hands on the railing as he looked out into the distance. "I started my long trip to find out what happened to the family I lost a long time ago. Yet now I have found myself, in love with an ice elf.. and welcomed lovingly by her family." He seemed to be murmuring to the cool night air.

If Zara had woke up and slipped outside after feeling him gone, he wouldn't of known it. "But I am willing to die for her if it means keeping her safe. I swear I won't stop looking, Father." Murmured softly as he lowered his gaze while closing his eyes.

The room Riz had gifted them with while there with the Bailion Drow was one of the few that opened up to the world outside the tunnles. The Balcony was a rare thing, and it was not large,nor very grand.But it did open up to the mountain air. It was magical, for it would open at the will of thsoe who stayed within that room, and close as soon as they left the fresh air behind.

Zara had woken up to find him gone. She was rather used to his nice warmth when sleeping, and the cool of fresh air woke her. She knew the room had a balcony that opened up to the fresh mountain air. Rising from the bed she crossed towards the balcony. She stopped when she ehard him speaking. She knew he spoke to the open air,the sky the moon.. She didnt say a word, didnt make a sound.

She knew he would die for her, as she would willingly die for him. She started on this journey to free Eyllis. To rid her homeland of the slavers that had ruined her life, and killed off so many. But now she had been going back for two reasons. Delan needed to find his family.. whow as held captive by her own flesh and blood. She had never known that, not till she learned the name of the Collector.

She looked at him there, with his head bowed under the pale moon light. She loved him so much. She wnated to go to him at that moment, wrap her arms around him. She wouldnt stop till he found his lost family.

She took a breath. and padded out behind him. She reached up and traced the soft beams of moon light that went over his shoulder. She knew he might be shocked , she hadnt made a sound. Her hand was cool as it touched his warm skin. " Mela en' coiamin .. you know I would fight and die for you as well.." She so rarely spoke elven, but the phrase was fitting, he was and would always be the love of her life..

When he turned to face her she saw his eyes were again that tone of liquid silver as the pale slim moon reflected within his silver hues. Shed seen this look from him before, when they had been traveling the long road that had led them here, the road that seemed so far behind them now. The dragon, the nights in caves close together.

The places he could find to bring them both peace of body, mind and spirit. She could almost see the forests they had seen together, the warm waters ,the fire light.. Long nights spent in his arms.. which there had been none of.. in relative respect to where they were and what they had faced so far here within the Bailion tunnels before coming upon or being captured by the drows that called these inner tunnels home.

Her hand reached up, her fingers tracing his jaw line. "And here I thought this whole time you were not worried about any of this.. what is to come, what aha passed, what could be.. tomorrow or the next day. " His fingers graced her cheeks, making them flare with a soft blush. His fingers were as always very warm. He hadn't spoken a word. His eyes spoke volumes.

He had been worried about tomorrow, and the days to follow. They had faced so much already and neither one knew what was to come. She had never spoken of her fears not for a while at least. She had worried that he might want to go on his own, to leave her, but she no longer feared that.

She knew that only death could separate them now. "Delan.." His finger rose to press to her lips to silence what ever she might have said. He traced her lips with his finger, his other hand wove through her long pale hair. She smiled to him and felt him draw her closer. Her hands pressed to his bare chest she knew her hands were cold,but he never seemed to notice. But it was hard for her not to notice how warm he was, like her own personal flame.

She was pressed close to him, her hands moved from his chest to his shoulders. He pulled her tight to him and she found that her mouth became very busy as he kissed her softly and slowly at first.His hands made warm circles along her back. She wore a soft night dress of black it was short and breezy,which made sleeping in the slightly muggy tunnels easier, now that they had a bed to sleep ins he had the chance to change in to sleep wear, she would miss that.. this might be the last moment she had to wear it till the people of Eyllis were free.

She was in his arms, his lips were pressed first to her shoulder, then her neck, along her ear and jaw then to her lips. Everywhere he kissed left little hot spots. He hadn't kissed her like this since they had first fled in to the caves along the trails. Those night in the dark caves before reaching this trek..

They had started outside, but now were back in the room. When his hands rose up her back then back down again she shivered softly. Then she was on the bed and he was standing there at the foot of it smiling at her. She was at the moment out of breath. "What's that smirk for?" He didn't answer her just eased her backwards along the bed till they lay there side by side. His fingers wound their way along her leg, up and down over her soft cool skin. His smirk was a sly one.

"What are you thinking?"

He just looked at her, his eyes still liquid silver, "that were in your fathers house, sort to speak.. and I shouldn't be doing what I am..."His hand rose along her bare hip. Her eyes fluttered. " Its not really a house.. its a tunnel system of little homes.. or rooms.." "But he is the master here.. or high enough of rank... so I should not be doing things to his daughter..."

She chuckled. " I am an adult.."She inched closer, " and I love you.. and his 'house' or not..he will have to except things." She stole a quick kiss.

He returned that kiss. This one was with more vigor. She giggled as she found herself on top then below him again as they rolled over the large bed. The road ahead lay fought with dangers and the unknown, if they had this moment Zara knew Delan wasn't about to waste it.

His hands were slight and quick,soon her little black nightdress was on the floor. Joined by his pants. The night soon faded.. the worries set aside for the morning.

Zara

She snuggled close to him.It was not yet dawn. But Zara was wide awake.Her cold fingers traced slow trails along Delans bare chest. She smiled sofly,thinking of the eve before. It reminded her of the apssions they ahd shared on the long road here.

Her eyes were closed but she still knew where ehr fingers moved, along is bare arm,then down his chest, her fingers left little coolt rails of ice, that melted the moment her finger moved on. His body was so warm, he likely didnt feel her cold touch. Or if he did he hadnt woken yet. She opened her eyes to look up at his sleeping form.

She knew she could lie there forever. She would have no need to ever move. She knew dawn was still at least two hours away, by the dull glow of the crystals in their room. Once dawn broke they would be on their way back towards Hael.. and Eyllis. She lifted her head from the little nook along his arm and ran her fingers through her hair. She didnt want to wake him, so carefully she slipped from the bed. She dawned her night gown and a little robe and slipped out to the balcomy where hours before shed come upon Delan under the pale moon light,

With her eyes closed she let the cool air surround her. Winter had sunk in to the mountians of Bailion. There would be snow in Eyllis, and likely snow in Hael. The cold didnt bother Zara she felt welcomed by the weather. The wind spoke to her,the little flakes of snow danced around her as if they welcomed their goddess. " Mother... Father. I retunr home to your gaves, undug,unmarked. Ibaea may be gone. All that I knew might be lost. Cesio pass will be crawling with slavers,witht hose looking for me and Delan. Teien is lost I know.. what of all the tribal lands? Did they burn? If everyone I knew and loved is hidding in Taindira forest, is everything else gone? " She pressed her hads to the stone railing. "Will I find my friends.. my family alive? Ny, Eli, Dho? Their families...Luana and Llewellyn.. Tanseril,Elara,Keelin.. Ruvyn. " She leaned a little deeper. "And what of Delans family? Does the Collector hold them hostage? "

She gripped the railing hard. The wind raced around her, the snow flakes danced down and settled at her feet. The snow that landed on her did not melt, nor did it bother her. "I swear, He will die. Helkaer 'Ksher will die. No slaver shall stand in my way, and none will survive. I will get our home back, our family..Delans family. "

She took a deep breath. "You would both like him so much.. you knew him so biefly. He carries your broadsword Atar. And he gave me back your neckless Atara. I have never loved someone as I love him. Hes amazing in every way, the way he loves me, would fight for me. As I would fight for him. I worried about our future. What was to come.. what is to come. But I do not worry any longer. We live each day to the fullest. " She closed her eyes again. " Perhaps when all this is over, when we are finally able to rest knowing all is well, those we love and the land I love. Perhaps then we might get married." She smiled to the idea.

Dawn broke through the mountains then.Casting its light through the ravine,down across the valleys and in to their tunnel room. Zara blinked lightly.It had been long since they say the light of day.

A knock came to the door. Zara left the perch and went to answer it. Csharynn stood outside the door in her mage like deep blue robes. "Quel amrun, Zara. I hope you slept well." Zara smiled and nodded. "Good morning Csharynn. " The drowess smiled, "There is to be a breakfast set for you and Delan, in the hall where you ate dinner last eve. In a few moments it will begin,I was told to come anf fecth you both."

Zara nodded, "Let me just wake Delan, we can dress and be right out." Csharynn nodded, "I shall wait."

Zara lightly closed the door and padded back to the bed to wake Delan but the bed was empty and made. She heard the tale tell signs that he was in the shower. The water would be cold but that wouldnt bother him. So she dressed placing her things away for the road ahead and laying they out on the bed.

She knocked on the bathroom door. "Breakfast is set.. hurry up."

She swore she heard him snicker and tell her to come in and get him herself. But she paid it no mind. "I will not, I am dressed already, and if you do notcome I will eat all the food."

She heard him chuckle more clearly now. As he opened the door a bit of steam came out, his hot skin and the cold water fogged up the room. "I am almost ready.."He stole a kiss and went back in to finish dressing.

They walked with Csharynn to the hall where they had dined the eve before and they saw that the table was a mass with people,Ayae was there a male drow beside ehr, his skin was slightly darker than Zaras own but more like chocolate than onyx. His eyes were blue,soft like the sea. Csharynn walked to the table and tooka seat ebside a male and female drow. The male looked much like her, tall and lithe, his hair silver, the woman was sun kissed like Zara, her hair jet black.

Beside them sat the by and girl Zara had seen the day before Csharynn's niece and nephew. The man there must have been her brother and the woman his wife. There were many tohers Zara had seen about she knew none of their names. Her father sat at the head of the table.

Riz smiled. "Ahh there they are, come sit, join us all at our massibe breakfast, this is most of my compay save for those on guard duty and partols." He grinned as he sat down to a massive plate. The food looked wonderful.

Zara sat with Delan beside her and dug in to food,talk and a spot of wine.

Everyone was very friendly.They spoke with out fear, and freely. Zara felt what she had long ago with

Iliana and Alinar Idande . Family, love, loyatly. She looked around at the warriors, sages and wizards and smiled. If they lived the coming fights she vowed to ehrself to return here and bring her brother with her.

They dined for some time letting the mid day drag out.

Riz,Csharynn ,Ayae were the ones to lead them out. They were bid a fond farewell by all whom they passed. Through the crystal lighted tunnles they went.

They walked in silence till they reached then end of the drows reagion. Ayae and Csharynn bowed and said their goodbyes to both and then faded away down the tunnel. Riz looked to them both. "This is where I elave you, Hael whould be about two days that way." He pointed off to the east. " Go in hopes to free Eyllis. Go and fight well and return here one day."

He looked to Delan, not speaking but his eyes spoke words to the young man, to keep Zara safe. Riz then looked to his daughter, "fight well, and keep safe."He emraced her for a long moment before nodded to them both then fading away down the tunnel. Zara watched him go ebfore heading off to the east for the last of this long dark walk.

She thought about her father as they walked away.. put miles between them and the realm of the Bailion Drow. When Riz bid them goodbye, Zara could tell he lamented that he could not be of more aid to those in Eyllis. But she understood, while Ruvyn and she would be in dnager tillt he slavers were gone, this was his home, these were his people. The slavers could never learn of them, or else risk the safty of the Bailion Drow.

Zara hoped that one day after all the mess in Eyllis was over that she and Delan, perhaps even Ruvyn could return here to learn more of these drow and her father. But now, now was not the time. They had been shown the quickest route away from the undercity, and bid farewell, and would be weclomed back at any time.

Delan didnt speak of what he and Riz had said to one another. But Zara told Delan of all the wonders she had seen within the undercity. The things she had caught on to. But she left what Riz and Delan had spoekn of between them two. In a days ime maybe elss they would break free of the tunnels and out a cave mouth in to the light and then they would be one step closer to Hael.. and freeing Eyllis.

Once they started down the tunnel, Delan finally spoke. "We spoke a lot about you, and your fear that something will happen to me. We also spoke of the one we are heading off to face. He is his half brother." A pause to see if she had been told that, or if it was new to her.

"You have nothing to worry about, Zara. I don't plan on leaving you for a long time." Moving to her side as he slipped his hand into her own, giving it a soft comforting squeeze. They had already been through a lot together, and looked like they would have to deal with more, before they could finally relax.

She looked over to Delan as they walked away back downt he dark tunnles. "Yes, The Collector, my own kin.. my uncle by all rights. "She knew, Riz had not hidden that from her. " I am glad you two spoke. " Her brows rose to him as they walked hand in hand. "I know you do not intend to run off Delan. But you can hardly promise anything, there is a fight coming, or many fights, perhaps a war. You nor I can make any promises. Only to live each day, to fight when we must, but to live fully. "

She looked ahead in to the growing darkness, they had left the Bailion Drow settlement behind, and now the light of the blue crystals was fading in to soft low lit , and some very dark tunnels ahead.

Riz stood watching them go. He had offered his parting words ,blessings. But he could not go with them, he longed to send an army with them. But how far int he light of day would an army of drow make it? The cold hard truth of it all was that he could not go. But he hoped some day to see them both return perhaps with his son along side. But he stood watching them leave now. Fading down the tunnel.

Csharynn walked up beside him. " Sir?" He looked over to her. "I wish I could send an army witht hem, that I could go along beside them and help." "It is not our fight, not yet." He looked over to the wise priestess. "No not yet, but I fear it may soon be. " He looked away then back towards the bustling drow community. "There will be battles ahead, many, the war will be far reaching. We must be prepared."

The darkness was dimming. The crystals were less and less. The days had passed easily. And now she could see the sun light ahead of them. The sound of birds filled her ears. Before they took another step Delan stopped and looked form the light to her. Before she could ask him anything he leaned down to her and kissed her. It as a slow deep kiss that lifted her to her toes.

When at last the kiss was broken she slid her fingers down across his chest. He smiled to her, "I don't know whats coming,or when we might get moments alone again. But never doubt for a moment that I love you. "

She smiled and ran her fingers to rest over his heart. "As I love you. What ever comes, we face it together."

They turned and heaed in to the light then holding up their hands to let them adjust to the brightness. Zara tooka deep breath,looking around tos ee the ground was thick with snow. When they ahd left on this journey it it had been fall, and early in the season it was now deep in winter. Her skin welcomed the cold, she didnt even shiver as a cold wind whipped up past them. And below just to the south downt he little pathway she could see Haels Northen most gate. The city was busy, the snow had been pushed off the streets but still covered the roof tops. And she could see there were more gaurds about the road and at the gate.

She looked to Delan. They had trouble with gards before. Drow were not always welcomed. But Hael had always been different. She took his hand in hers and led the way downt he little roadway towards the gates.It was nice to smell the air, even if it was winter and no flowers were in bloom, she could smell the trees, the fires burning,bread being baked and spices in the air that wafted towards them from Hael.

She left her hood down and Delan followed her example.

Whent hey reached the gates there were eight men standing outside, four with swords four with spears, on the wall above along the gaurd towers stood archers watching them and the surround.

"State your business." They looked as if they had seen a few more battles than normal. Zara looked from the archers ont he wall tot he guard that had spoken. " We are here to stay at the clover inn and speak to Sydney Moon." The guard tooka few steps forward.

"And you are?" Zara looked to him, he was young for a guard but his face showed sings that whatever youthfull joy he had once had was gone from his eyes. "I am Zara Idande ranger and warrior of Eyllis and this is Delan Dulthaas ranger and warrior with me."[/color

]The guard looked to her then to Delan. He nodded slowly then. "You both may pass."

The gates were opened and they were allowed in.
