Scotty

Sunrise came early in Rhy'Din, though some later for the winter months. Still, it was early enough that Scotty had to actually set his PADD to wake him and Harold up so that they would have time to shower, get dressed, grab coffee and food and meet with Shadow and Misty, and head off for the Fur'za Flyin' docked in Bay Fifty-Three at the Stars End.

Scotty had only been there a few times; amusingly, even though he came from a spacefaring culture, he just didn't have a ton of reasons to go into the spacers area. He more often spent time with the dragons and other lifeforms that had, until he came here, been fairy tales and legends.

But everything went down pretty much as planned. They were quiet on the way to the Stars End, and for Scotty's part, it was because he was sipping his travel mug of coffee, perched on the back of his horse, completely unaware of how anachronistic he looked doing so. The air was cold, and mostly he just enjoyed the quiet of the early morning, even as they got to the hustle and bustle of the spaceport itself. Not shockingly, he and Harold left their horses out in the courtesy stable provided for those who had gotten used to living across several different time-periods on the same world, and within the same several miles.

And then it was to Bay Fifty-Three.

Shadow rose with the dawn as well, having opted for the rare room at the Red Dragon the night before the intended spaceflight. Truth be told he'd gotten little rest, as the anticipation of what, for him, was a nigh-impossible journey, had him more nervous than he'd been in..well, centuries at least. He'd passed some of the time brushing his leather garb and wool cloak to look his best, though Misty'd said no preparations were needed - it was something to do to assuage nervous energy. Using no horse, nor mode of ambulance aside from his feet, he made the journey into the strange domain of the spacers, toward the dock numbered fifty-and-three.

Talk about anachronistic.

Though he was not technically new to RhyDin, a decade ago as some reckoned time had not seen the spaceport extensive, and as a prime example of one of RhyDin's fantastical beings, the elf had never had cause nor desire to visit it. Now though, it was truly impressive, with a bustle unlike anything seen in the parts of so-called Lower RhyDin that he tended to haunt. Eyes as wide as a schoolchild's at a carnival punctuated the normally somber elf's features, and by the time he arrived at the appointed dock to meet Scotty, Harold, and the pilot of the Flying Fur'Za, Misty, he was even paler than usual with thinly disguised awe. And quite speechless at that.

And he hadn't really seen a thing, yet.

Misty

Misty had spent most of the night talking with Bridei and Joey after she'd left the Arena, but a short little orbital hop wouldn't take too much out of her. After a quick shower, she went back through the gate, to meet Scotty and Shadow in the Red Dragon Inn, catching a nap on the way to Star's End on the back of Scotty's horse (since her ways of getting to and from the Inn were a little more personal), but snapped to quick enough when they arrived.

She was beaming with pride, as she led the three men to the Fur'za. Between Paradise and Em-Five's demonstrations of TLC, her ship practically gleamed on the tarmac, static dispersal fields keeping the dusting of snow off. As they approached, the cargo ramp lowered, showing the little R2-M5 'droid near the controls.

Misty scampered up to stand beside the little 'droid, and give her guests the proper welcome. "Danku, Em-Five," she said as she gave the shiny dome a pat.

"Good mornings, gentlemens. As captain of the Fur'za Flyin', please allows me to welcomes you aboard."

Scotty

Date: 2010-01-31 15:28 EST
The Fur'za Flyin' wasn't designed like anything Scotty had been familiar with in his own universe, but he could immediately figure out some things about her -- namely, that she was quick. She looked athletic and ready to go, which pretty much meant that the ship seemed to reflect the Captain.

Shadow's expression thrilled him some; the idea of introducing someone to what it looked like up there, no atmosphere in the way, stars brighter than ever imagined was more than a little great. That, and it was a perfectly good way to spend a Sunday.

Harold was there, too, which made it all the better, and he grinned at Misty. "Um, thanks. This is really cool of you, you know?"

Scotty nodded in agreement. "Aye, it is."

"You okay, man?" Harold asked, looking over at Shadow, who definitely looked a little bit overwhelmed. Though it didn't seem to be in bad ways.

Shadowlord

Overwhelmed was one way of putting it. A faint nod offered Harold, though the elf's ambers were positively glued to the starship. After a low murmuring, accompanied by the subtle flick of a finger - a simple cantrip of magic detection - he breathed, "So it really isn't sorcery after all, then." This was more to himself than the others, but he wasn't trying to be rude. One had to understand the simple truth that Shadow'd never even been this close to a spaceship, let alone about to embark upon one. Head lifted to the sky, eyes closed, and he murmured a prayer of thanks to his patrons above for this opportunity.

The orison seemed to have calmed his nerves, somewhat, and so it was with a dazzling smile that he replied to Misty's greeting. "As Scotty said, this is a great honor. Your...Fur'za is magnificent," he said to Misty. He'd let the two other fellows precede him onto the ship, hand a tentative feather touch to the droid-being as he passed near it. "Fascinating," he whispered to himself, belatedly following the other three.

Misty

Misty giggled as they passed by. She could see Scotty looking over the Fur'za herself, while Harold looked nervous. Shadow, well ... he looked like he was about to pass out!

"Actually, Shadow ... it kinda is. I's a mage, and some of the stuffs on the Fur'za run off of magics. Like the engines. No pollutions that ways. But let's go up to the Bridge, and I's will introduce yous to Paradise!"

She smiled and pushed the button to close the cargo ramp once the three men had boarded. Turning to the circular stairwell in one corner of the bay, she beckoned them with her tail. She really hoped her first mate had gotten the message, about how this wasn't going to be a "comfy" flight.

Scotty

Date: 2010-01-31 18:27 EST
"Runs off of magic?" Harold asked Misty, looking around and giving Scotty's hand a squeeze. "Kinda like what you do at GAME, huh?" he added, aside, to his fiance.

"Aye, a lot like that. 'Cept, I'm nae a mage, just a mechanic," Scotty replied, though it was more for the other two than it was for Harold. Harold got to hear plenty about what he did for the day. In the meantime, they followed Misty. Scotty spent most of the time looking around the ship as they headed for that stairwell and followed her up. "Does make sense, though, given that Rhy'Din's got so much arcane potential hangin' about. It's been neat seein' it as an application t' mechanics..."

Scotty trailed off, when he realized he might just get to babbling and grinned, shaking his head. Aye. Enjoy the ride. Follow Misty's tail.

ParadiseStromgard

She stood at the top of the stairwell, a welcoming smile on her face. Long, red hair had been tied back in a braid.

Fortunately, she had gotten Misty's message in time. She had managed to throw on a kerchief top with her loose black cotton pants.

"As first mate of the Fur'za... Welcome."

Misty

Date: 2010-01-31 18:38 EST
"Oh! Shadow, Harold, Scotty, I'd like to introduce yous to the First Mate of the Fur'za, Paradise Stromgard. Her and Em-Five do a lots of the mechanical stuffs on board. Now, yous wanna see the bridge?"

Misty giggled, and scampered up the rest of the stairs, waiting by the door to the bridge for her guests.

Shadowlord

He listened with interest as Misty explained at least one of the ways in which her ship hybridized magic and technology, grinning at the explanation. "You see! I thought so!" he said to Scotty with a grin, looking like a child who had just discovered their favorite toy could actually talk. The rather serious elf seemed giddy, truth be told. But, he hadn't lost himself completely, sobering his smile and offering the first mate a low, sweeping bow of greeting. "Well met, my lady," he replied to her greeting. In new situations, or at least with new people, the elf waxed formal out of habit.

'Bridge?' he thought. This was almost too much for the elf at first, visualizing the Fur'za with some waterway or other passing through it, but at least he knew to keep his mouth shut, and hide his naivete. His own question was answered as he followed the group up the stairs, stumbling only once or twice as his eyes sought to be everywhere at once, to take it all in.

ParadiseStromgard

She smiled at the bowing elf, a slight blush to her cheeks. She turned to follow Misty to the bridge, moving through the door in order to make sure everything was in order for their short hop.

Since Misty was hosting, Paradise thought she should show off her piloting skills. She waited for them to enter, already making herself comfortable in the piloting chair, giving last minute instructions, pushing a few buttons here and there. She turned to face the door, a pleasant smile on her face.

Scotty

Scotty grinned back, looking around the bridge and taking it in next. "A pleasure, ma'am," he said, in reply to the introduction to Paradise.

"This is way less intimidating than the Enterprise's bridge," Harold added, chuckling and shaking his head some as he went to take a seat. He watched Paradise working the console for a few moments, smiling in a manner that Scotty recognized as, 'Don't remember a thing, and damn glad of it.'

Scotty lingered for a few moments longer, taking in the panels himself. Definitely chuffed for Shadow's reactions so far to the ship.

Misty

Date: 2010-01-31 19:47 EST
Misty smiled as everyone filed onto the bridge, and spoke quietly for a moment into the communications station, clearing their departure.

"Okies, gentlemens. If yous is all ready, we can gets goings! Paradise, if yous would be so kind?"

ParadiseStromgard

Date: 2010-01-31 19:52 EST
"Absolutely, Captain."

She pressed a few more buttons, subvocalizing a few orders to get the engines warming up.

"We should be ready for departure in...oh.... ten minutes, I'd say. I'll make this an easy one, promise."

She grinned at the passengers again, and turned back to her work, eagerly awaiting their trip to the stars.

Shadowlord

Date: 2010-01-31 19:57 EST
Shadow'd thought there was a little more work to the preparation for departure; after all, when magic was used to travel great distances, much power and effort had to be expended. The first thing, thus, that Shadow noted was the impressive efficiency of the machine, an elegance of function that rivalled, to him, the perfection of the snowflake or the round uniformity of RhyDin's twin moons.

Sobered by the thought of the power of this starship, he clasped his hands before him, waiting patiently. "The ships you flew in your home universe were like this, Scotty?" he quietly whispered as the captain and first mate performed the protocals necessary for takeoff.

Scotty

Date: 2010-01-31 20:03 EST
"Somethin' like this, but differently powered. I didna fly 'em, though, just flew in 'em or worked on 'em. We had wee shuttles, but th' Fur'za Flyin' here is more..." Scotty tilted his head, thinking of how to explain it. "...comfortable. Private sector ship, instead o' military or utilitarian, so she's a good bit more sweet in a lot o' ways."

Mind, mostly his experience had been with public-use vessels. Not bad, but definitely built for function over form. This one was small, but she had a classy kind of mix of both that appealed to him some.

"Better lighting, too," Harold added, with a grin. Scotty, who got that comment, had to try to chew down a smile.

Misty

Date: 2010-02-01 03:18 EST
Misty turned and smiled at the men.

"The Fur'za is actually my homes, so it had betters be a little fanciers, right? But it's just a light frieghters. Some of the really big ships carry ones like her so they can lands on planets."

She indicated a few seats and benches. "If yous wanna sits down or somethings, feel free. Its should be a really smooths ride, though. If yous want somethings to drink, or for snacks, just let me knows, okies?"

Shadowlord

Date: 2010-02-01 03:37 EST
Despite those lingering nerves, the elf managed another grin at Harold's quip toward his fiance. Attention soon turned to Misty, and her offer of seats and refreshment. "I thank you, though my stomach would likely not welcome anything right now," he replied with an apologetic smile.

He would take up her offer of a seat though, selecting one of the more comfortable options over a bench. Though he wasn't one to fidget, the thought of what he was about to do kept him shifting now and again as nerves foiled true relaxation - he was starting to settle in, however.

Scotty

Date: 2010-02-01 15:21 EST
"Oh, aye," Scotty said, finding a seat next to Harold. He was still watching everything, taking it all in; he could feel the power through the ship, arcane driven or not, just like he could aboard a shuttle or a transport in his own universe. A certain harmonic hum of shifting energy. Listening for it, for him, was as natural as breathing.

"I'm a'right, we grabbed a bite t' eat afore we came aboard," he added, as he managed to drag himself out of the observation. "Harold?"

"No, I'm good." Harold snuggled back into the comfortable seat, looking up and around and grinning some. "This is pretty awesome. More- comfortable, I guess? Since it's someone's home, too."

"Makes me sorta wish I'd gotten t' see more privately owned vessels," Scotty said, nodding. "Lot more customization an' that."

Misty

Date: 2010-02-01 18:00 EST
Misty smiled as the men took their seats, taking one herself at the communications console.

"The Fur'za's equipped to run on a crews of ones, but I's didn't likes being lonely all the times. And since where I's froms is a little more rowdys then Rhy'Din-space, she's armed too. Just in case. Matt liked thats when I's was here befores, helpings him with some things."

She fell silent after that, not wishing to discuss the pertinent information about that time. The console chirped, and she smiled again.

"Okies, that's our departures clearance. Are yous ready?"

She grinned, and signaled Paradise to go ahead with the take-off procedures.

Shadowlord

Date: 2010-02-01 20:48 EST
It had truly begun to sunk in what was about to occur. Though starship-jargon went right over the elf's head, he could tell through body language and other cues that they were preparing to leave the spaceport. His mind was a whirl at that point, visions of what it would be like to fly close to the stars filling his mind.

He heard Misty, and perhaps understood her, but all that he could express at that moment was a rather silly grin, and a murmured, "Mmmn."

He'd probably be fine though.

Scotty

Date: 2010-02-01 21:12 EST
Scotty nodded, enthusiastically. "Aye! Ready here, Misty." And Harold nodded too, with a bit of a grin, casting a half-sympathetic, half-reassuring look to Shadow. Man, he'd been there, in that whole, 'Whoa, dude, I'm where?!' thing before.

Of course, that had led to some bad things, but seeing as how he was engaged, it had led to some good things, too.

"Where're we headed?" Scotty asked Misty, eyebrows up some. "Got any nebula we can take a gander at?" Mostly because those were stunningly beautiful, all color and dust and starts shining through.

Misty

Date: 2010-02-03 00:48 EST
Misty smiled as she turned to the men.

"Oh, I's sure we can finds somethings pretty to looks at ... "

The rising crescendo of the engines made her tune everything else out, as she scratched idly at the tank-top she wore. But, as her passengers didn't know her quite that well yet, no getting comfy on this flight.

"Okies, here we goes!"

ParadiseStromgard

Date: 2010-02-03 10:02 EST
A shiver went through Paradise's body as the engines started, and her grin got just that much wider. She turned to look at her passengers, and said quietly, "I think I know somewhere."

With a nod to Misty, she turned, subvocalizing into the computer again, programming coordinates to a little spot she knew, not far outside Rhy'Din's atmosphere.

As engrossed as she was in getting the ship ready to launch, she hadn't paid much attention to their guests. The ship's autopilot needed no further instruction from her, so she turned, crossing one leg over the other, and smiled at the passengers.

"I hope you enjoy this. It's a place I've been meaning to take Vinny for a while."

Shadowlord

Date: 2010-02-03 15:02 EST
Feeling the engines of the ship begin to rumble, the elf's eyes widened, and he glanced over at Scotty. "'Tis akin to the rumble of a dragon about to take wing," he commented with remarkable lucidity considering the state of his nerves.

When Paradise had completed her programming, tapping keys on that fascinating device the modern residents of the city called a 'computer', the elven woodsman was all smiles. From shock to grinning all in the space of a few minutes, he'd surely make the swing on that emotional pendulum several times before this flight was over.

Scotty

Date: 2010-02-03 15:33 EST
"Aye, it is," Scotty replied, with a chuckle; he should know, Vex demonstrated a dragon's pounce to him in the Marketplace not too long ago, and he was still impressed by it. Space flight was fun, but for a man who had grown up in a world where it was a part of the fabric of culture, it wasn't nearly as neat as dragons.

"Watch," he said, pointing for the front screen. One of the neatest parts of leaving an atmosphere was seeing clouds give way to blue skies, to the deep blue, to the stars themselves. "Ye'll like this. It's beautiful."

Shadowlord

Date: 2010-02-08 02:38 EST
At Scotty's urging, the elf moved his gaze toward the indicated viewing screen. As far as he knew it was merely a window, for the concept of a 'screen' which transmitted images was to him as foreign as the existence of starships themselves. Not that it mattered either way, really - seeing was seeing.

Leaning back, both hands gripped his seat's arms tightly as an expression of lingering nerves; the spectacle of take-off would provide a welcome distraction indeed. With nothing further to say right then, the quiet elf adopted a faint, though eager smile, amber eyes agleam.

Misty

Date: 2010-02-08 14:13 EST
Misty watched her passengers and stifled a giggle. The Fur'za wasn't so large that it needed a viewscreen, it really did have windows. But, in watching them, she remembered just what it was like, on her first flight into the stars, back when she was just a young kit.

With a wistful sigh, she turned back to the window, letting Paradise do the flying.

ParadiseStromgard

Date: 2010-02-10 10:34 EST
The ship shuddered just a little as it broke through the atmosphere above Rhy'Din, and they were released into the stars. Paradise gasped with the beauty of it.

It didn't how many times she went into space with the Fur'za, she would never get enough of seeing the heavens.

The course already plotted, she turned again to face her passengers. She had a wistful smile on her face.

"We know that God is everywhere; but certainly we feel His presence most when His works are on the grandest scale spread before us: and it is the unclouded night-sky, where His worlds wheel their silent course, that we read clearest His infinitude, His omnipotence, His omnipresence."

She blushed a little, eyes going to the window yet again. "Charlotte Bront?... It just seemed appropriate."

Scotty

Date: 2010-02-10 13:39 EST
Harold was learning forward some, as they broke the atmosphere, wide-eyed with a wonder that Scotty knew now had never quite been snuffed out, no matter how bland or boring Harold always said his life had been. It was a particularly endearing quality.

"It is," Scotty said, answering Paradise with a nod and a grin, then looking back to the stars.

Harold nodded, too. "'Wendy, Wendy, when you are sleeping in your silly bed you might be flying about with me saying funny things to the stars.'" After a moment, he added, sheepishly, "Peter Pan. Kinda reminds me of it."

Scotty thought, maybe, he'd have to get Harold a copy of that. At least, an actual book copy of it. And he looked to Shadow next, still grinning, eyebrows up. "Still a'right?"

Shadowlord

Date: 2010-02-12 16:22 EST
The process of breaking through the atmosphere and subsequent entry into outer space had gone far more quickly than the elf'd expected, even having seen the wonders of the ship's technology. He'd expected pain, disorientation, all those things which might occur had he passed some sorcerous gate to some other plane of existence (which he'd done a time or two). He'd thus braced himself, and was a tightly wrapped coil of tension during the relatively brief first stage of the journey.

Eyes wide with wonder were glued firmly to the windows, and though the ship wasn't necessarily passing any stars too close, Shadow was nonetheless overcome with emotion at this first vist to the realm of those holy beacons, sacred to elvenkind since time began. It was with tears forming in his almond-shaped eyes that he turned to Paradise to hear her quotation, apt poetry for the occasion, surely. He assumed this Bronte to be some wise or holy woman from the lands of Paradise' origin, and even smiled despite the runnels of moisture beginning to stream down his pale face. Harold's perhaps lighter comment wrought an even wider grin.

When Scotty spoke, it took a few heartbeats for Shadow to reply, the elf wiping his eyes without shame and nodding once. "Magnificent," came his whispered reply, the awe of his situation casting a hush over his voice, as if to talk to loud should disrupt the enchantment of being up here. He had little more to say, no quote of his own, but who would on their first trip to the stars?
