Marc's Rules for Blogging

I wanted to make some things very clear so I thought I'd go ahead and finally let everyone in on "the rules" I keep in my head. I am not here to allow some people to use the blog in order to blend to hurt other players and to tweak situations with other characters into your characters favor. I am here to further the enjoyment of the game for everyone. I spend much more time on it these days than I do actually playing and I have no regrets about that. I love blogging! I have so much fun doing it but I want to be perfectly clear as to my motives so here are some "Frequently Asked Questions".

1. The Whys....

1.1. Why do my character(s) not make it into or rarely make it into the blog?
The answer to this question is one of three things (a) I have not yet noticed your character or do not know enough of their background yet to be able to put something interesting together, (b) your character seems "serious" (slavers doing slaving sorts of things, murderers, the Big Bads) meaning that they just don't fit the silliness that I go for and I don't want to be seen as ruining your SL by making light of it, (c) I have an issue with you and feel that I can no longer blog about your characters in a responsible manner or you have asked not to have your character written about. Now I hate even including (c) because there are so few people that fit into that category. In 99% of the cases, it is for reason (a).

1.2. So if it is for reason (a) what can I do about it?
PM me! Tell me about your character. Give me some background that Marc's "sources" would be able to gather. For example, let me know that your character is a wealthy widow who has a reputation for enjoying younger men. The next time I spot that character in the Inn/Arena/Outback anywhere near a younger man, you better believe that would get a mention!

1.3. Why do you say such horrible things about my character?
I'll be 100% honest with you. I only say horrible/mean things about characters that I really enjoy. I pound on characters like G'nort, Phillipe, Jade, Chase, Jewell, Lanta, and Stephen but, at the end of the day, these are some of my favorite characters and players. I don't want to use the blog as my OOC voice. That's not healthy for the community. Therefore, I make a point of only "talking junk" about the characters that I find interesting, unusual, hilarious, or entertaining.

2. The Hows...

2.1. How do you gain the information?
I read the logs of the day I'm blogging starting from about 8 pm et and running until 2 or 3 am et. I use this time frame because it's when the Inn and dueling venues are the busiest. If there is only two or three people in the room and it appears to be private roleplay, I typically do not include it without the players' permission. With nobody else in the room, the characters could expect a certain amount of privacy with what they were saying. However, if the room was full and they were having the same conversation, they probably could have been overheard and, thus, those conversations are included. My general rule is that 2-3 people is not included, 4-7 is just basic details (who is sitting with who, body language, etc) that could be gained from looking through a window or something, more than 7 and the sources get bits and pieces of overheard conversation. I try to avoid whispered conversations but I do make mistakes. I apologize for those in advance.

2.2. How come you used gossip that was incorrect?
There are two reasons for this. Sometimes I just make mistakes. I scan a lot of logs and I try to do the best I can but sometimes I just screw up. Other times, it's just funnier or more dramatic to tweak the information in a way that it's more interesting. That's gossip! Hate Marc for it! Have your character complain about it! It's total IC fodder. Have fun with it!

2.3. How can I get my character removed from the blogs?
PM me. However, I do not follow who plays what character so you will have to ask for each and every character you wish removed.

3. The Whats...

3.1. What do you typically blog about?
Who is flirting with who, who is dating who, who is wearing what, who is getting trashed and making a fool of themselves, who is fighting with who. Think about Perez Hilton, Page Six, People, Inside Edition, and US Weekly. What do they include? If it's in there, it'll probably make it into the blog as well.

3.2. What's the best way to contact you?
PM, PM, PM!!! I don't check my e-mail very often. However, I read the boards from this SN so I see my PMs every time I sign into the RDI board.... which, I'll admit, is several times a day. Some people take smoke breaks at work to clear their head, I take RDI message board breaks to clear mine!

4. The Wheres...

4.1. Where do you get the gossip?
The Inn, the Arena, and the Outback.

4.2. Where can I get MORE gossip?
Please check out the blog: http://rhydingossip.com/. There's a tag feature so you can look up all the references to your favorite character(s). Don't remember the dating history of a certain character? Use the search feature to find them! You'd be amazed at some of these characters and their fabulous bed-hopping ways!

5. The Whos...

5.1. Who can send in tips?
Anyone!!! I love PMs! I will admit that there are times especially when I'm behind several days when I'll forget it a PM. I apologize for that. Again, if you're sending me a tip about "private roleplay" (when only 2 or 3 people were in the room), I need permission from the players involved to include it. I'll be honest, it makes me particularly suspicious, when the tip comes from a "secret" SN. I don't want to step on anybody's toes. I'm trying to be as upfront and honest so please do the same with me.

5.2. Who are you?
Wouldn't you like to know? Honestly, I'm nobody special. However, I am planning on pulling away the curtain and revealing who I am this summer. All good secrets must come to an end in their own time!
