Topic: A Matter of Security

During her patrols, Eddie continued to include the Frat House as a regular stop. This night, she spotted something unusual. After being caught on the grounds, Eddie finally was aware of the many cameras pointing this way and that, and she saw one of them looked - off - like it'd been bumped, or shifted. Upon closer investigation, she found the fence behind the camera was damaged slightly, just enough for someone to sneak in and out by sliding under the chain link. Scuffs in the dirt and footprints moving away from the House told her she had found where the younger brothers were sneaking out.

After carefully marking the location with a quick slice of a nearby tree with one of her daggers, she headed for the access road, and down to the gate. The brothers in charge of security and the President of the Frat needed to be aware of the breach so it could be corrected.

It was his turn in the guardshack and he had noticed her sneaking around again. He just shakes his head with a smirk. Leaning on the door of the shack, he just awaits her approach.

And when she does he walks through the door with his arms folded over his arms. "You know we should hire you, you're here more often than some of the bros." He smirks down at her.

Eddie gave a grin up to Matt, brushing her bangs out of her face.

"Hey Matt - it's no biggie to keep an eye on the outside perimeter, and it's a good thing - cause I found a breach, looks like it could be where the younger ones are sneaking out. One of those.. box things that has the pictures - it's not looking at anything, and the fence behind it is all messed up. I marked it - you wanna see? Maybe Jaden - I mean the President should see too."

Matthew Gordon

He scratches his head and nods. "I do appreciate that, but have a look." he takes her into the booth and steps aside so she can see the various camera angles for outside the perimeter. Zooming in on the one shot, there is the uplifted fence and the dummy camera above it.

"We keep it like that. Boosts thier self esteem to think they're getting away with things." he grins again and shrugs his shoulders.

Eddie

Eddie found the booth and all the monitors fascinating, not ever seeing anything like it before. She listened as Matt explained what she found, a frown crossing her face.

"I can see why it's like this and all - but - you know, that'll let creepies in, and with nothing there to help you all see it - I just don't wanna see anything icky happen here - I like you all too much!"

Matthew Gordon

Date: 2007-01-16 12:13 EST
He has to laugh at her terms. Creepies and icky. Too funny. Settling back on the stool in the room he just considers her for a moment. "We've got it under control. We keep a camera aimed at that spot and the hole does get moved from time to time. That way the "creepies" can't do anything "icky" by finding it."

He puts his hand to his ear. "Yes sir." He looks over at her. "Any other concerns?"

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-16 12:53 EST
She nodded as she listened to Matt, watching the monitors flip from camera to camera as he talked. Even though she didn't know exactly how it all worked, she could appreciate the effectiveness of the picture screens.

"Well - seems like you've got it all... "

She stopped as Matt talked into the air, hand on his ear. She wondered.

"Is that Jaden? You know, I did have something I wanted to ask him about - there any way I could see him a minute?"

Matthew Gordon

Date: 2007-01-16 13:01 EST
"No ma'am, it wasn't. But I can try to get him down here. Give me a moment?"

He turns and picks up a telephone and dials into the house. "Hey, somebody's requesting Jaden's presence at the security gate." Short pause. "None of your business." He laughs. "Thanks" And hangs up the phone.

"They're going to see if they can't find him. I'm sure he'll be around soon."

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-16 13:07 EST
"Please - call me Eddie. Ma'am sounds so - old!"

She laughed a little as she leaned against the back of one of the chair in the little room, shifting slightly to adjust the blades on her back. After a minute, she looked over at Matt as he watched the mointors.

"How'd you wind up here with all the brothers?"

Matthew Gordon

Date: 2007-01-16 14:58 EST
One thing that must be known about Matt, he is a very private person. That was one of the reasons the bros trusted him to the position he held. He told nothing. Gave away nothing. If you needed to know, you knew. Other than that, forget it.

However he was a decent guy and would answer this one, albeit briefly. "I walked here."

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-16 21:23 EST
Eddie tugged on the cuffs of her fingerless gloves as she waited for Matt to answer her question. He seemed to keep things as close to the vest as she did - he knew she was armed, he just didn't know why. HIs answer made her laugh out, a grin all on her face.

"That must have been one hell of a walk!"

Matthew Gordon

Date: 2007-01-17 07:49 EST
"Worth every step of the trip, I assure you." As he jots down some notes on a clipboard. His shift was almost up and he's doing his end of shift paperwork. Now if only Jaden or one of the other bros would either call or show up. That way he could sign off on the visiting woman and go to the gym.

He looks out at her and tilts his head slightly. He's bored and it was nearly time for his replacement to show up. "So what's with the Ginsus"

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-17 18:49 EST
"Ginsus?" She had to think about that for a minute... "Oh - you mean the blades.."

How much to tell him? That was the question. So, Eddie went for the basic truth.

"I always carry them when I'm patrolling - part of the uniform and all."

Matthew Gordon

Date: 2007-01-18 13:13 EST
He just shrugs, seemed like an awkward and archaic peice of a uniform. He preferred his tazer. It was not so bulky and much more effective and less harmful. Ah well, to each thier own right?

"So you patrol on your own, like a Dudley DoRight? Or are you more like a vigilante?" He chuckles softly.

Eddie

Before Eddie could answer him, the sound of feet in the gravel caught her attention, and she looked to see who was coming.

Doug appears shortly later, finishing off a sandwich and drinking a Coke. "Hey Matt, what's up? Jaden sent me out here?"

Matt looks over at Doug and grins. "Hey li'l bro. The lady here was wanting to see Jaden. Can you take her to him?"

He nods and looks over to Eddie, with a boyish grin on his face. "Hey there, I'm Doug." He wipes his hand on his jeans and then extends it for her to shake.

She smiled, taking his hand with a shy smile. "I'm Eddie - didn't I see you up at the Inn once? Nice to meet you!"

He shook her hand and then turned to Matt to give him a wave. He punches in the code for the gate and it slides open. "Maybe, I've only been there a couple of times. Too hostile for me," he grins and steps to the side allowing her entrance. "So, the grand tour or just the house?"

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-18 23:30 EST
She stepped through the gate, waving back to Matt. "Thanks!"

Then she was by Doug, looking all over the grounds. ?I'd love the Grand Tour if that's OK - I've never seen this place from the inside!?

They walked slowly up to the house, he let her take in the natural beauty of the grounds. While there were plenty of garden beds and the like, the guys tried to keep as much of the grounds as the wooded area that the homes had been built into. There was a flower bed on the inside curve of the curved driveway that had hedges carved and molded to the Greek letters indicating Pi Omega Pi.

Opening up the front door, he held it for her. "This is the main house where most of the brothers live." The foyer was large with walk in closets on both sides for hanging up winter coats. Walking through, he leads her into the living room.

She loved the way the grounds were, appreciating the way the brothers left them as natural as possible. The hedges were trimmed into shapes she didn't recognize, but she didn't think to ask, as soon he was opening the door for her, and she stepped inside, awe and wonder in her eyes, as they obviously lived quite well if the entrance was any indication. She followed a step behind Doug as he led the way to the living room.

"You all live here? How many brothers fit in this house?"

He shrugs as he leads her through the living room. "A lot? I never bothered to count." He laughs and leads her to the kitchen. Cookie is ever present and gives them a smile in greeting. "You want something to eat or drink? Cookie's the best."

Food was usually low on Eddie's priority list - but the aroma from the kitchen was making her stomach rumble a little. She gave Cookie a smile, then turned to Doug with a grin.

"Something sure smells good - how are the fries?"

"The absolute best!" he grins and straddles a barstool. "Cookie, two burgers and fries and Cokes!" He takes the liberty to order for her. The view from the kitchen is to the indoor pool and there are several bros out there swimming and lounging around.

She perched on a stool next to Doug, grinning as he ordered her a full meal - reminded her of her Sisters, as they were always making her eat. Her gaze drifted out to the pool, looking over the other brothers, shyness starting to creep in again.

"That's a nice looking pool - Russ mentioned that you guys had one."

As the drinks are delivered he takes a sip of his own. "Two, that's the indoor one." He said it so nonchalantly, like everybody should have two.

Laughing he points out Julian streaking around the pool. "That guy is a frootloop!"

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-18 23:45 EST
She was just taking a sip of her drink as Doug pointed out Julian - and the sight made her nearly choke on the Coke. She sputtered and coughed, her cheeks flaming red.

"Who's that?? And where's his clothes??" Cough cough.. Fruitloop - must be another word for naked crazy person.

He pounds her on the back and laughs. "That's Julian. He's crazy."

Finally she can breathe again, laughing with Doug, finally getting a sip of that Coke - she'd had to remember to get some at the Inn - pretty good stuff!

"Must be to run amok like that - everyone else seems cool though!"

She gave Doug a smile. "Thanks a million!"

He just grins and the burgers and fries are laid out before them. He applies a generous amount of ketchup and mayonaise to his before digging in. "Man, have you ever tasted anything so great?" He grins and wipes the excess ketchup from the corner of his mouth.

The quantity of food before her was huge! Eddie wasn't quite sure where to start, so she watched Doug out of the corner of her eye, adding ketchup to her burger, and to her fries. Mayonnaise was not something she was familiar with, and it didn't look so good, so she left it alone. Taking a bite of her burger, her smile lit up her face.

"This IS good - man you guys are lucky!" Another bite of burger, a bite of fries - this guy could cook - almost as good as Chef-man! After a few moments, Eddie turned back to Doug.

"So how long have you been a brother?"

He'd wolfed down his burger and was nibbling on his fries, watching her with a muted interest. "Told ya so." He grins. Cookie was the best ever!

"Oh, I'm not a brother yet. I'm not old enough."

She managed to eat half her burger - more food than she was used to chowing in one sitting, and was taking a breather, sipping her Coke. His answer surprised her.

"Really? I thought everyone who lived here was a brother - how old you have to be to be official?"

"Eighteen." he nods and looks around. "They call me and Chris the Fratlings. I hate it, makes me sound like a little brat or something." But then that grin is right back in place. "But I love it here."

He lifts his Coke and takes a deep pull from the straw. "So why do you need to see Jaden?"

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-18 23:58 EST
She nodded, taking note of the other name - Chris. They had to be some of the younger members Matt and Jaden mentioned.

"This is a cool place - I've been here for a couple three months now. Can't imagine being anywhere else." A little smile lit up her light brown eyes before she knew it.

"I had something I wanted to run past him about security is all. He must be way busy being the President."

"Only a couple of months? I was raised here." He nods and watches as Dirk passes through the kitchen. "That's Chris' older brother." He nods and then watches as some other brothers walk through.

"Yea, Jay's been keeping pretty busy with the new job. But I think he likes it. He's pretty cool."

"I've never met anyone who was actually raised here - that's so cool!" She waved as Dirk strolled past. "Yeah - I've met Dirk before, over at the Outback - now that was fun!" Eddie grinned as she remembered the match.

"Jaden sure does seem cool - takes his job seriously." He was cute too - but Eddie wasn't going to mention that!

He nods, listening, sipping his pop. "Dirk's alright. Just don't make him mad. He's got a heck of a temper." he'd been smacked more than a few times by Dirk and it was never fun.

"Well, are you ready to see the rest of the place?"

"I'll keep that in mind, though he's been pretty cool with me." She decided not to mention that she had beaten Dirk pretty good in the Outback, though she was still grinning remembering it. She finished her Coke and nodded.

"Sure am - I can't wait to see the rest - thanks again for the food - it was awesome!"

"Sure thing!" he grins and hops off of the stool. He leads her around the bottom floor of the house, showing her the different rooms, study, library, sitting room, another smaller living room and the family room. Of course the sacred book room was off limits. "But I especially like this room." he grins as he opens up the room with the hot tubs in it. "oops!" he laughs and closes the door quickly as Evi throws her towel across the room at him. "She likes her privacy." he laughs.

Eddie followed where Doug led, his enthusiasm catching. The house was much bigger than it appeared on the outside, and she was very impressed. She laughed as Doug got biffed with the towel. "I didn't know girls lived here too!"

He laughs and tosses the towel into the hamper for dirty towels. "yea, Evi and Xander's sister, Chloe live here." He had a crush on Chloe, but hell who didn't?

He led her outside so that she could see more of the grounds and the guest houses. "Each of the houses has bros living in them, except that one." He points out a nice sized ranch style home. "That was Jaden's but he's moved into the house since becoming Pres." He points out Xander's place and Dirk's too. "Dirk, Cole and Gage live there." he nods.

Taking her along the hiking/running trail it leads into the woods. "This place is so cool in the mornings."

She had an idea how big the property was from her patrols of the perimeter, but seeing it from the inside was amazing to Eddie. She memorized each detail Doug shared with her - who lived where, and with who. She also found she was enjoying Doug's company. All the brothers were cool, but Doug was really, really sweet. She brushed her strawberry bangs from her eyes as she smiled up at him.

"I can just imagine this in the morning when the sun first rises - I bet it's awesome.? She paused a little. "Thanks again for showing me everything. I'm really having a great time."

He laughs when she mentions the sunrise. Only person he knew of that got up before the sun did was Dirk and that's because he ran every morning. "Oh, not a problem. Did you want to head back and find Jaden or maybe get a smoothie by the pool or something?"

She joined in his laughter - she didn't sleep much and was usually awake at sunrise, now more than ever with her new Priestess duties. She thought for a minute.

"A smoothie sounds really nice - does it matter that I'm not exactly dressed for swimming? Maybe we'll run into Jaden at the pool."

He shrugs and nods at the same time. "You don't have to swim to sit by the pool." he laughs giving her a nudge with his elbow. "And maybe he'll be there? I'm not sure." He starts back down the path towards the house and the pool area.

She giggled at the nudge - yes, Eddie was ticklish! "OK - just checking! It'll be nice to sit - this place is huge!" She followed Doug back towards the house, smiling - she was having a great time.

A little bit later they're sitting by the pool, sipping their smoothies. No sign of Jaden there either. "You know, he's probably in his office." He looks at her with a grin. Yea, it took him all day to figure out that's where he'd be.

The smoothie was as good as the burger, and she relaxed by the pool, careful not to get her blades wet. When Doug mentioned Jaden had an office, she started laughing. "Were you saving that for last?" She was smiling then, sipping that smoothie. "I did still want to talk to him - you think he's still there?"

"Of course I saved that for last. How could I give you the tour if you're going to be stuck in his office all day?" He shakes his head and laughs. The smoothie was finished and he slides out of his chair. "Come on, I'll take you to him."

He leads her back into the house and into a hallway they hadn't been into before. The offices and the sacred room were all in this hall. He looks reverently to the sacred book room. Soon enough, he'd be allowed to go in there and write his name. He couldn't wait. "Here we are." He smiles and knocks on the office door.

Dirk Stevens

Sitting in the office, enjoynig a cup of Earl Grey with Jaden, they had been discussing different matters pertaining to the new fratlings when the door was knocked upon. He sets hs cup down and looks to Jaden with a raised brow. "Expecting guests?" He grins and rises from his chair.

Opening the door he looks down at Doug and Eddie. "Hey Doug, Eddie." Yes, he remembered her from the Outback. "What can I do you for?"

Doug grins and takes a step back. "She wanted to speak to Jaden." He chuckles. "Catch you later, Eddie, Dirk." and wtih that he turns and walks away.

He shakes his head and holds the door open for her. "Come on in." Folding his arms over his chest. "We were just finishing up." He hangs back from the door and looks over to Jaden.

Eddie

"See you around Doug!" Eddie waved as Doug left, then gave a smile up to Dirk as he held the door for her. "Hey there Dirk - I won't be too long, I just had a thought I wanted to bounce off you all - Jaden especially, since he's in charge."

She took a seat, adjusting the hidden blades so they didn't poke her. She ran her fingers through her bangs, settling them out of her face as she turned to Jaden, a little color rising in her cheeks. Taking a breath, she got right to the point.

"You all have been so cool, I wanted to return the favor. I'm out and about pretty much all night, so I thought I could keep an eye out for the younger bros - make sure they stay out of trouble, and steer them home if needed. That sound OK with you?"

Jaden Linares

Date: 2007-01-21 12:01 EST
He continues to sip his tea when Dirk rises to go for the door, a slight shrug. "Not that I know of." Brown eyes look to the door, spotting Eddie and Doug as the door is opened. He watches the interactions between them, giving a wave to Doug as he leaves. Another few sips from the cup.

Sitting in the large leather chair, behind the monstrous desk, he smiles at Eddie as she comes through the door. He sets his cup down on the desk and leans forward, both hands coming up and clasping to one another. "Hello again Eddie."

"Keep an eye on the younger brothers?" He nods slowly. "It really is not something you would be obligated to do, but since you are offering I will gladly accept. I sometimes do worry when they wander off out there, not exactly a safe town."

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-23 00:22 EST
It's no big deal - I'm glad to do it. This place can get nasty at times.."

Eddie didn't go into details - the Oracle had enough horror stories in it. She caught sight of the clock on the office wall, and frowned slightly, rising from the comfortable chair in front of Jaden's desk.

"It's later than I thought - I need to get back out. Could you point out the other brothers I should watch out for - I know Doug, and he mentioned Chris, but I've never met him. That way, I know who to look for."

She gave Jaden a soft little smile as she turned back towards the door. "Thank you so much for letting me come back."

Dirk Stevens

Being the gentleman that he is, he stands when Eddie does. Walking over to the door he smiles down at her. "Chris is the spitting image of myself. You'll know him the minute you see him. Only he's not as much of a jerk as I am." He smirks down at her, then over to Jaden.

Eddie

Date: 2007-01-23 12:26 EST
She looked up at Dirk, studying his features since he said Chris looked just like him. She had to smile as he spoke.

"You've never been a jerk to me - not even after I won our match in the Outback!"

Jaden Linares

Date: 2007-01-23 22:25 EST
Jaden stood up the moment the others did and gave Eddie a smile even nods slowly with it.
"Welcome and feel free to come by anytime." He shook his head at Dirk and sat back down in his chair as Dirk shows Eddie the door.

Back to his papers, lists.. and whatnot.
