The minstrel was off on his own for a time, giving Lydia a break from his likely overbearing attention. After he had pulled her from the realm of the dead, he had felt weak in all manners. She hadn't made it out on her own. He could have done something. He didn't want her gone. His despair had been great, and luckily, short-lived.

Since her gradual recovery began, he had been hovering over her. Getting things he thought she shouldn't be moving to get, offering to make her food, and various other chores in her home. She had asked him to go out for a little while, sweetly, but he realized he was probably being a just a bit too overzealous. He left her on her own and did as requested.

On his way out, he glanced at an ivory envelope that he hadn't given back to the elf. When he rearranged her furniture back into the proper place in the living room, he had thought about giving it back to her. His curiousity was great, however. For a much different reason. What parting words would she have said to him? He picked up the envelope and tucked it into his tunic.

His travels were safe. Despite the fact that he was being sought by hunters, none seemed to pick up on the fact that he could move around unseen. The Tower of Air granted him the power of invisibility whenever he desired it. It had proved to be rather useful. That, coupled with the fact it was dark, meant the risk was minimal. Before he stopped by the Red Dragon, he settled onto the roof of a building not far from it. He slid the envelope out of his tunic. It wasn't sealed, so the ivory stationery, folded into thirds, came out rather easily. He unfolded it and looked over the words. The handwriting was a little messy and in black ink.

Soerl,

This is one of those times I really did wish I was more eloquent. If I'm to leave any departing words to you, I would want them to be beautiful and expressive. I've never been that way, though, and sometimes you make me even more of a fool than I already am. Much like you get sometimes, though you rarely need my help for such a thing.

He couldn't help but chuckle faintly after reading that.

You reading this likely means I lingered far too long beyond the portal. For that, I am so sorry. They're probably very hollow words, considering the consequences, but I hope you can forgive me for it. My intention was never to hurt you. I would never do that knowingly and willingly. I also hope you don't grieve for too long. You are a good man, Soerl. You should let no person ever convince you otherwise. And I would hope that you never let grief or sadness or bitterness consume you and change who you are. You're far too strong for such a thing, and have entirely too much love left in you for it. For Lyric, for Poppy, and all your friends as well. Someday, perhaps even for another.

I wish we could have had more time together, as I'm sure you do. But even in that small amount of time we had with one another, you managed to save me Soerl. You have given me more hope and happiness and strength than I thought anyone ever could. I wouldn't trade the time I've spent with you for anything. I love you desperately, and with the entirety of my heart and soul.

Your love and 'nemesis',

Lydia

His expression was unreadable for a long moment, after he finished reading the letter. The words meant a lot to him. They were heartfelt and that was all that really mattered. He read over the letter once again. As he read one particular line, tears formed in his eyes. They didn't fall, however. He folded the letter back up and slid it into the envelope. It was tucked back into his tunic. He thought about that singular sentence, one more time.

But even in that small amount of time we had with one another, you managed to save me Soerl.

"Feeling's mutual, love." Words whispered before he was once again invisible. He leaped down to the ground below and continued on his way.
