Russ waited until London was good and gone before he threw on his jacket. It didn't seem like a big thing but considering the date, London leaving the flat on his own accord after calling a friend to see if he wanted to hang out - well, that was huge after the weeks of binging. Russ first called Bast and let him know. They talked a few minutes then Russ decided he would take advantage of the alone time. What better thing to do than taking a walk to clear his head? He shrugged into his jacket and headed out, hands in his pockets. The snow was starting again and was falling in fluffy flakes. It was the kind of snow that was pretty as it fell and would coat all the grime for a while giving RhyDin a fresh and almost innocent look. It was cold though and Russ wasn't of a mind to go back so quickly. The inn held no allure for him and not even the call of the beer was enough to get Russ to turn his course that way. There was always the Teas. He glanced around and realized he was only a couple of turns from Katie's shop. Now there was an idea. He could go by and say hello to Katie. He adjusted his course and stepped up his pace. Before too long it was in sight and he was able to pull the door open, the bell ringing to announce his arrival. He took a few steps into the welcome warmth, bangs falling freely over half his face. "Hello?"

Katie sat in her place behind the main counter. She had been considering closing up but hadn't gotten quite enough motivation to actually go lock the door just yet. She heard the familiar door bell and smiled. The papers she was holding fluttered when she lowered them to peer toward the front door of her precious shoppe but a display she'd recently moved stood between her and the door so she didn't get a good initial view of the visitor. She wore her usual; comfortable baggy sweater over equally comfortable slacks and big fluffy slippers since it was her shoppe after all and she was quite able to wear slippers if she wanted to wear slippers. Her hair was a little longer than it had been, dark layers loose around her face and shoulders. "Can I help you?" She leaned a little to get a better view of the front door and then her face lit up. There were only a few people who could get her to smile quite that quickly quite that large and he was one of them, the newest to the circle of friends. "Russ." She stood and came shuffling around the counter in her slippers so she could give London's best mate a hug of greeting. Her fingers darted up to push his bangs back and then she pressed her cheek against his in greeting. She leaned back to pat his cheek. "It's good to see you." She looked toward the door then up to Russ again in question as if to inquire where London was.

Russ carefully closed the door behind him and then grinned when he heard Katie say his name. She was a sweet and gentle soul. He often wondered how she and London had met; they were an odd pairing if you asked Russ but Russ was not yet bold enough to ask that question of either of them. In spite of the sweet and gentle part, Russ had to admit that Katie intimidated Russ somewhat. It wasn't the same way that Russ was intimidated by Bast. Maybe it was because Katie had known London for as long as she had. It was important to Russ that Katie like him as well. He gave her a polite hug back and grinned at the press of her hand to his cheek. "It's nice in here as usual, Katie." It was warm and cozy here. It always was. "I wasn't sure if you would still be here or not. Figured I might stop by to say hello." He shifted from one foot to the other. Russ wasn't a huge tea drinker but then his experience with tea was limited. Ice tea, long island iced tea and that black stuff were all the options he really was fluent with. On the occasions that he'd visited before, she had always had something interesting to try though.

After the hug of greeting, Katie took Russ by the arm and led Russ back to the counter. "I'm glad you did. It really is good to see you. I'm surprised London isn't with you though." She dragged a stool out for him to take and then went around behind the counter as was her normal custom. Without giving Russ much opportunity to object, she set water on the heater and began warming it for a pot of tea. She knew of his lack of tea experience and had taken it upon herself to broaden his horizons. "Is everything okay?"

Russ watched her get the pot on the heating element and gave a grin wondering what she was going to brew this time. "Everything's fine. London called up an old friend and went off to go to a fair or something with him."

She turned quickly, brows lifting quite high. "London went out? On his own?" She grinned wide. "Really? With who?"

Russ chuckled at her grin. It really lit up her face. "Keegan, I think."

"He's a good boy." Katie lifted her shoulder in a little shrug of excitement and then eased herself back onto her stool. "Honestly, I hadn't been as worried about London since you got back. You stay over quite a lot, dont' you? I've noticed that London has really perked since you got back. Though," her fingertips tapped the countertop, "I do think he drinks a dreadful amount. I don't see it getting any better until, well, you know." She offered a wan smile then lifted a hand as if to still any words of excuse from Russ. "I don't blame you for his drinking, Russ. There's only so much we can do for him, isn't there? He is his own person."

Russ nodded. "True." Maybe this was what London needed, getting out and doing things instead of letting the ghosts of the past haunt him. "I'm glad he's out and about. I'm sure he'll have a great time. I almost went to the inn but realized I just don't feel like it tonight." Russ slid off the stool and stepped to one of the displays to get a closer look at some of Katie's wares. "I thought about the Teas. Your shop was closer though."

Katie agreed with a grin. "Yes, I'm sure he'll have a grand time." She watched Russ get up and wander to one of the displays. "You're always welcome, Russ. I'm glad you stopped in. I was thinking about closing up for the night but hadn't quite gotten that far. Besides, I needed someone to share a cup of tea with before I close for the day." Speaking of that, she turned to inspect the tea pot she had warming. Her tone was casual on her next question, "You and London are growing quite close, aren't you?"

"What kind of tea are you going to make?" He was amazed at the number of different kinds of tea that Katie had on her shelves. He didn't dare say anything like 'oh tea is tea'. She might give him that look of displeasure, the one she leveled on Bast at least once when Russ could see it. Russ didn't want that look aimed at him. "London uses the term Best Mates. I'd have to agree that I think he's probably my best friend here." No use bringing up the missing Griff. He wasn't sure how much Katie knew about Griff and at the moment he didn't think it was a good idea to give her something to ask London about. Russ could see that Griff's disappearance was more a bother to London than London openly admitted. Russ peered around the display he'd disappeared behind to inspect and looked in Katie's direction. Russ found that Katie was with the pot of tea she was making so Russ wandered toward the counter and the stool she'd pulled for him. He almost asked why but decided instead to turn the conversation away from himself and London. "So, how's that boy of yours? Jude, I think."

"Blackberry spice." It was a tea that proved quite popular this season and Katie still had quite a bit of it. She'd found it was quickly becomming one of her own personal favorites as well. Katie's cheeks flushed at the mention of Jude, especially the way Russ put it. Her lips pressed tight for a moment and then she admitted, "Jude is doing very well, thank you." She chose not to give up anything else though but got the point of the volley. No more questions about how close Russ and London were. She poured out the tea into the waiting cups. "So what are your plans for the rest of the night?" Katie set the pot back on the warmer then carefully set each cup on the counter. Cream and sugar came next and then she seated herself once more. A bit of cream for her and then a touch of sugar, just enough to bring out the flavor of the tea. As she stirred her tea with the delicate tea spoon, she looked again to Russ.

"I don't really have any plans. Might watch a movie." He watched her put stuff in her tea and decided to try it the same way since she was the tea lady and probably knew best. She hadn't led him astray so far. A little cream got added to his cup and then a little bit of sugar although he added more than Katie had added to hers. He stirred it slowly and, when he glanced up, he caught her looking at him again. "What do you usually do in the evening, Katie? What activities keep the tea-lady busy when she's not in her store?"

Katie laughed a bit at his question. "Mmm. The Tea-Lady hmm? Well, I hear that she does a lot of reading." Katie took a sip of her tea, eyes dancing merrily. "I'm not as exciting as London or Bast. I write letters, I read, I listen to music. Sometimes I end up mixing teas until late."

"Exciting isn't everything." Russ chuckled and finally took a sip of his tea. He was surprised by how much flavor the tea had. "Wow, this is good." He grinned again, jerked his chin to get his bangs back out of his face and then took another drink. "You have a real gift, Katie." He knew she mixed her own teas and assumed she had done the same with this one. Russ had no idea what went into mixing tea but he respected her for being so good at it.

"We each have something we're good at." She ducked her head at the compliment. It pleased her when she heard that someone was enjoying their tea. To her, it wasn't just a drink. It was an experience and it needed to be enjoyed. "I'd invite you up but I really don't think you'd be very entertained."

Open went the door and the bell jingled. The tall female that entered gave a hiss up at it because it ruined her quiet entrance. One of these days that bell was going to meet an unfortunate end. Katie was talking, the question was who with? A slow inhale let her taste the air. Ahh, familiar scents there. Male with traces of London. That would be Russ. Portia wore average clothes for once instead of the tight dresses she usually favored when on the prowl. A nice blouse and slacks hugged her figure. Her blond hair was even caught back at the nape of her neck instead of flowing freely around her shoulders.

She was right. Everyone had something they were good at. "I'm good at operating an internet scam from my basement." He chuckled at his own joke. "It's okay, Katie. I don't want to intrude on your quiet time. I'm glad I caught you while you were still open here." Russ took another drink and grinned. "I really want you to teach me how to make this." At the sound of the bell, Russ turned to peer toward the door. Russ recognized the tall blond immediately as Bast's girl. The relationship was still fuzzy to him but he knew enough that Bast was involved. Russ gave a smile in greeting then glanced back to Katie.

That caused a laugh from Katie. She'd heard he claimed something about an internet scam. She enjoyed hearing Russ make jokes. It meant a lot to her that he be relaxed and enjoy visiting her. Katie liked nothing more than being the spot for her friends to come and relax. Her look turned to surprise. "You don't know how to make Tea, Russ? Oh dear, well, we'll have to fix that." Katie lifted her chin and took a lean to the side to look around that display making a note to herself that she would need to move the display back to where it used to sit out of the way of her view of the door. When she saw who it was, Katie's face lit up. "Tia!"

Portia reached the counter and threw a charming smile to Russ as she took a lean against the counter. Her brow went up as she gave him the once over; he had a nice scent about him even without the traces of London, nice face too partially hidden by a cute fall of bangs that seemed to beg for fingers to run through them, nice enough build that she wondered what he looked like without clothing. "Hello, Russ." She blew a kiss in his direction then her eyes swung to Katie. "Katie, good to see you." Portia straightened from her lean and instead deposited her curvy self on top of it instead. She leaned back and captured Katie in a hug, cheek to cheek kiss in greeting. "How are you doing?"

Russ grinned wide right up until Portia looked at him like that. He wasn't sure what it meant but he kept a polite smile on anyway.

Katie caught the look Portia leveled on Russ and sighed, face covered by a hand briefly in a delicate face-palm. Could Portia look at a male without that 'you look tasty' glint in her eye? Katie seriously doubted it. Thankfully Portia did nothing more than look. Katie was so thankful that she chose not to shoo Portia off the counter this time. She hugged Portia back and gave a smile. "I'm doing very good. Just about to close up actually but Russ stopped in for a cup of tea."

"Oh really?" Attention swung back to Russ. "Where's London?" Portia was nothing if not direct. She withdrew from the embrace with Katie and leaned casually propped on an arm. Could she help it if the lean was just so her blouse fell a bit open giving a nice glimpse of what lie beneath? "You two are rather attached at the hip now, aren't you? Odd that you're out by yourself." Her next words would be an offer to console him if there had been any sort of tiff between the two. Perfect nails tapped at the counter and Portia could almost feel Katie's eye roll that was probably occurring.

"Out with a friend." Russ wasn't going to offer too much more but the comment about being attached at the hip warranted more explanation. "I'm staying at his place but we're not attached at the hip." He rolled his eyes and took another drink of tea, emptying the glass. Good, something to talk about. "Katie, could I have another cup of tea, please?"

The bell never rang when Bast arrived to the shoppe. He strode toward the knot of people wearing a wide smile. "Jesus, Tia, put those away and then put on something that shows more. We have a party to go to and each one of you are coming." His eyes lingered on Russ and Katie as he made his grand announcement then his attention swung to Portia. Another step and he was close enough to capture her for a fierce kiss.

Katie nearly dropped the tea pot when she heard Bast's voice. She wondered how he did it, how he got in without disturbing the bell. Did he have his own private door or something? She turned a stunned look on Bast. "A party?" No answer came quickly because she found Bast a little occupied with greeting his girl. Katie cleared her throat and glanced away to give them their moment.

Portia swung a look in Basts direction and visibly perked. "Ooh a party?" Ooh, a kiss! Her legs curled around Bast and fingers caught either side of his face as she applied herself to that welcome. Teeth caught his lower lip as the kiss came to an end, her eyes sparkling. "I like the sound of that." Whether it was the party or wearing something that showed more was up for debate.

Bast turned his attention back to Russ, licking his lips after greeting Portia. He took a step closer to Russ. "Yes, a party. It's time to celebrate." He drew in a deep breath, his face dipping closer to Russ as he inhaled Russ' scent. His words were murmured. "You smell like London. I like that." His grin turned almost feral. "Good enough to eat." Without waiting for Russ to object to the idea of the party or to react to the whisper he caught Russ by the arm and turned to head back for the door and limo waiting at the end of the lane. "Tia, get the girl. Let's go."

Russ didn't have time to think. There was Bast quite suddenly and then Russ felt himself lifted off the stool and maneuvered toward the door. Party? All of them? He looked back helplessly in Katie's direction as if she might be able to help.

Portia was about to curl an arm around Russ to take charge of getting Russ out the door but Bast beat her to it. She sent an almost growl at Basts back but it didn't last long. They had a party to go to. She lifted her legs and fluidly swung them over the counter then gave a push to land behind it right next to Katie. "Come dear." She helped Katie put the pot down and then hurried Katie out from behind the counter toward the door.

Katie sputtered as the pot was taken from her hands and put down. "I'm not dressed for a party, Tia. I don't even have shoes on. I don't have a coat!" She tried to put on the brakes but Tia was too insistent and Katie felt herself propelled toward the door.

Portia laughed. "Don't be silly. You don't need shoes and we'll keep you warm."
