?Come on, Crabby!? Jent barked from across the shipyard.

Sebastian looked over his shoulder and grinned. ?Be there in minute, guys,? he shouted through the open window. Turning back to his task at hand, Sebastian shook his head and finished cleaning off his desk. Things at the docks were running smoothly, surprisingly, and there were no kinds of delays. Shipments when out on time and came in on time ? which was what made Dave?s Shipping Co. a respectable business.

?Oh, go on, Bastian. Have a bit of fun.? Dave looked up from his work at his own desk where he was busy writing. The older man with graying hair smiled. His green eyes looked tired from behind wire framed glasses. ?It?s not everyday you get a chance to celebrate like this. It?s the weekend; go on.? He waved to boy towards the door.

?Now, Dave. I can?t do that. Just means I?ll have less sleep in the morning because I?ll have to come in early and clean up my mess.? Sebastian grabbed a few of the logging books and carried them over to a bookcase on the far wall. ?Besides, you should be getting home too. Didn?t you say that grandbaby of yours was here visiting??

Dave?s attention was momentarily captured by the raucous laughter of the deck hands just outside, celebrating the purchase of a new ship. That meant more money for the company which meant raises for them all. ?What?? Dave peered over at Sebastian. ?Oh, oh yes. My little Angie is here with my son and his wife. But please, Bastian. Go on! This can wait ? I won?t be much longer anyways.?

?Ok, Dave. If you say so!? Sebastian grinned and went over to retrieve his jacket with a little hop. He was actually very excited. He?d hired, in his mind, the best crew possible to man the ship and now he and his buddy?s were going aboard said ship to have a few rounds of drinks. ?You?re welcome to join us, Dave. But I somehow think that Leanne might beat you if she found out.?

Dave howled with laughter. ?You?re right about that, but thanks for the offer. Make sure the boys don?t get too rough, aye?? Dave knew that Sebastian wouldn?t overdo it ? he trusted the boy. ?I?ll be along shortly. Don?t worry about locking up. I?ll do that for ya. Go have yourself a good time.?

?I will, Dave.? Sebastian tugged his ski cap on and flung the door open.

?Say hello to that pretty wife of yours! Tell her the Mrs. and I want to have her over again real soon.?

?I will.? Giving a wave, Sebastian stepped outside, pulling the door closed behind him. ?See you Monday, Dave!? And with a wave, Sebastian closed the door and stuffed his hands into his pockets. The night was bitterly cold, but it wasn?t anything a few stiff drinks couldn?t fix. The docks were eerily quiet, save for the laughter and shouting coming from the guys aboard the Marietta.

?Hey, hey, hey!? Jent stepped forward to welcome Sebastian aboard. ?Look who finally joined us!? Sebastian shoved Jent away and scoffed, joining in the playful banter between the crew as they laughed.

?Have a drink!? Milo thrust a bottle of whiskey into Bastian?s hands and then raised his own bottle in a toast. At 23, Milo was in his prime. He was decently built, and got along well with the crew. His affinity for the female creature was all too apparent and he was seen, more often than not, taking home a different girl every night. He turned to the 9 crew members who had stayed to celebrate. The men ranged from their early twenties to early thirties.

There was Morris, 31, who was married to a beautiful wife and had a lovely brand new little boy. He was stocky, broad shouldered and wore a scruffy beard. He had a mouth that would make even the foulest pirate cringe, but new how to sweet talk his wife when he needed to.

To his left was Jent, 21, young and probably the craziest of them all. He was always thinking up ways to liven up their days when it was raining or freezing cold. There were times when Milo thought that Jent wasn?t mature enough to handle the ships rigging, but he?d proved himself many times over.

James and Garet were brothers ? a good team. James was the younger of the two, being 24 and Garet at 27. Having been born in some far off land, the brothers often shouted orders to each other in their native tongue, continually baffling and intriguing the crew. Their builds and facial features were nearly identical, but the age difference was quite apparent, with James merely looking like a younger version of Garet.

Sebastian was goofing off with Andy, a sinewy looking man with dark hair, a wirey frame and a pointy nose. He looked to have been dealt a harsh hand in life and carried the scars to prove it. Andy?s jaw was slightly crooked from being dealt too many stiff right hooks back in his fighting days. He had an easy going attitude, however, and many of the crew members got along with him quite well.

On the far right were B.J. and Leo Kauffman. They were both already drinking their whiskey laughing about something or other. The latter of the two was affectionately called by his surname ? though no one knew why; they just did. Kauffman was a big man. He was 26, six foot two, and weighed close to 270lbs. The guy was pure muscle and hit like a locomotive. His partner in crime, B.J., was a scruffy backwoodsman who had traded in his plow for a better life in the city. He was strong, crass, and often times considerably gruff with everyone ? but they paid him no mind. B.J. is all bark and no bite when it comes to his mates.

Fine looking bunch these guys, eh? It took a certain kind of man to lead the life of a sailor/longshoreman ? it was surprising that Bastian could handle it. Milo grinned at them all and cleared his throat, yelling above everyone?s raucous noise. ?To ships, women, and money!?

?Here, here,? they all cried in unison.
