It started early in the evening. Why didn't these things ever start in the morning after you've had plenty of rest? Why did they always start in the evening when you're tired anyway?

The contractions.

They started to really come on strong in the evening and they were coming more and more quickly. That's when Gav became concerned...really concerned. Soon he had the entire staff alerted and he insisted that Des get into bed. He was with her when her water broke, and when the contractions became closer together. But then the servants sent him out into the antechamber and closed the door. He hated that. He wanted to be with her. He walked into the nursery and touched the bed and the toys. . .and just prayed.

Des was doing just fine. They had practiced and were prepared for this. Everything was ready and waiting for the big event. She was doing okay when the pains started and even went to bed when her beloved husband began insisting that she did because now they were coming closer together and man did they ever hurt! Everything was still okay when her water broke and the time was almost here for their little girl to finally join them in the outside world as she held tightly to Gav's hand.

But suddenly those dang blasted servants stepped in and as she regained her wits after a contraction her husband was no longer in the room with her holding her hand, lending her his strength. That was when all hell broke loose and the cussing began but unlike most laboring mothers, it wasn't Gav Des was cussing but their servants with each breath she managed to draw.

Creatively and in every language she knew which so happened to be quite a few. She did not stop cussing them for separating her husband from her until she heard the first cry of their newborn little girl then she let out a yell even louder than any that had come before with both voice and mind. "Gavilean! She's here! She's here!"

Gav wanted to be with Des, and he was very upset. . . until he heard the cussing. He heard her cuss before, but never like that! Not even ol' jerk face, Vanion, made her cuss like that! Suddenly he was happy to be outside the bedroom. His elfin ears were sensitive and heard much more then humans could hear. He heard her in pain and the groaning and grunting as she pushed. Then he heard the best sound in the world, his beloved wife saying, "Gavilean! She's here! She's here!"

Then he heard the soft cry of their daughter, but he was already in the room by than. The staff was washing their daughter and wrapping her in a blanket. Then placed her in Des' arms and Gav was just beaming. "Oh, honey! She's beautiful! She's gorgeous!" He bent down and kissed his wife, his prayers being answered. "I love you so much, Tera."

Tears of joy were running down her cheeks unnoticed as she held their baby in her arms for the very first time and kissed Gav lovingly. "I do love ya, Gav; whole bunches. Just look how tiny she is. I swear she has your nose. And see her little bitsy toes. Look babe." She had to unwrap the little babe to examine her from the very top of her head to the very tips of each tiny but perfectly formed toe in awe between shared glances of wonder that they had created this new life together out of the love they shared for each other.

His voice was a whisper of love, "She's perfect, my love. Our little Princess Gwenilb?th Starfare." His fingers touched her toes and fingers, and then gently touched her cheek, which started the nursing reflex. He looked at Des and smiled. "I think she's hungry."

"Oh!" Des shot him a startled glance then chuckled quietly as she saw their daughter's rosebud mouth already in motion. "I do believe that ya are right. I guess I should feed her." Gingerly she got her started nursing after a bit of fumbling and a couple of false starts. Apparently this would take a bit of practice but she would have plenty of time to practice. Every few hours matter of fact for a while now. She slanted a sheepish grin over to the man she held so dear. "Hmm. It ain't as easy as it looks in the books Babe."

He was just mesmerized seeing Gwenilb?th nursing on his wife's breasts. "It looks like it could hurt, honey." He laid his head next to Des' and looked down at their daughter, his hand on her back. "I sure do love my two girls." He smiled and gave Des another kiss. "You make beautiful babies, my love."

She reached up and cradled his cheek in her palm while steadying their baby against herself with the other tenderly. "I would say the very same of you love mine. I am so happy at this moment that I could just cry from it." She smiled softly to him and returned the kiss lovingly then rested her head against his while snuggling against his side and relaxing as their child nursed. Her lashes drifted downwards slowly and she blinked.

He couldn't love his two girls more. He didn't want Des see his own tears of joy, but he suspected that she had. "You're going to be as beautiful as your mommy, aren't you, Gwenilb?th. Soon you'll be shouting 'Blood, guts, glory' along with your mom." As they talked the staff cleaned up Des and the bed and were taking care of all the necessary duties with no little precision, with Trinalee organizing like a general.

She couldn't help but laugh at Gav's words as she figured that he just might be right, unless he put his foot down and made up some rules on her which he had yet to do. She leaned to give him a kiss while still chuckling softly. "Goddess, I've never loved anyone as much as I do you. No one has ever understood me like you do. Let's hope our parenting skills are up to the challenge of a child that we created." She sighed quietly out of sheer bliss and switched Gwenilbeth to her other breast with a bit less difficulty than the first time around and smiled over that small accomplishment. "I don't know about you Babe, but I could sure use less of these servants. Please get rid of them."

Gav turned to Trinalee and nodded. The hefty old woman smiled and nodded and quickly scooted the servants out of the room. Trinalee could be a motherly busy-body, but she also knew when the royal couple needed privacy. Gav lifted his feet and laid upon the bed with Des and their beautiful daughter. "This is such a miracle, honey. All this time she was growing within you. That is so amazing to me." His hand caressed Des' hair over and over. "Thank you for such a beautiful child," he whispered, and kissed her eyes.

Something melted inside her at his words as they laid together with their child. The three of them all snuggled up on the fresh clean smelling sheets now that everything had been replaced and the room aired out and she had been bathed along with their little girl. A part of her was still trying to take it all in. The fact that her pregnancy was over and they were now parents to this baby resting so trustingly in her arms was so brand new to her.

Des' voice was hushed in the quiet of their room as they talked. "We did this love mine. Together, not just me. I just still can't believe she is really here after all this time waiting and hoping and praying she would be okay. She is just so perfect and very tiny."

"Yes, we did. Forevermore we are going to be a family." He wondered to himself how much of the Elfin their daughter might have inherited. It could be a little, it could be a lot. Time would tell.

Revelation Two

Gav came walking through the hallway of the palace with Gwenilb?th in his arms. He could keep her quiet and peaceful with Elfin songs, but she really wanted her mother. He walked into the room where Des was and he stood there admiring her. "You are the most beautiful mom that ever walked the land, my love." He looked down at Gwenilb?th, "If you grow up to be a beautiful as your mom, I'll be full time beating off the boys."

Des glanced up from her desk as the door opened. A soft smile curved into place as she saw just who was coming through the door toward her and just what was in his arms at the moment. Navy blue eyes lit up with a mixture of delight and love as they passed over the two people she adored most in this world while shoving back her chair and rising to her feet. She rounded her desk to meet them half-way with arms opened to enfold them both in a hug of greeting along with a kiss to her beloved husband's lips then one to their daughter's petal-soft cheek. "Oh I'm pretty sure ya are gonna be beating off the boys, Babe, when I'm not. I swear she has your looks more than mine. She is gonna be a heart breaker I'm certain sure."

Gavilean chuckled and nuzzled into her neck and kissed her beneath the ear. "Poor Gwenilb?th, she won't be dating until she's thirty." His arm went around Des and he held her tightly to him. He loved her so very much, more now than ever even though he would have sworn that it was impossible. "I thought we might show Tilly our daughter. She's quite anxious to see her little playmate."

She chuckled quietly as an arm slid naturally into place around his waist while the other hand needlessly smoothed the blanket over the tiny infant that was already perfectly in place. Des tilted her head to the opposite side for the delicious nuzzling and slanted a grin to Gav before nodding rapidly. "I think that is a grand idea. I'm surprised she hasn't been up here and kicked down the doors yet to see her."

"You're right about that, Des. Every time I get near Tilly she asks me when she can see her 'playmate girl'. She's driving me crazy, and I'm sure she's doing the same to you. Tilly is lying in the storeroom off the kitchen that she has come to claim as her own. I think we've spoiled her, love. She won't go back to stable now." He smiled and began to walk to the door with his two beautiful girls.

Tera laughed merrily while matching strides with him as they moved down the hall and along the stairs. "Not me, love of my life. I have been sneaking out the front door when I can. And don't ya dare call me a coward. I can't resist them big blue eyes when Tilly gives me "that" look and ya know it!" She grinned charmingly to the man she loved more and more each day it seemed and made certain they picked up some carrots and an apple when they went through the kitchen.

Gav carried their daughter as Des picked up the carrots and apples, but they didn't have time to reach the storage room. Tilly sensed their approach and the presence of Princess Gwenilb?th. The white unicorn came around the corner and stopped, her head raising and lowering. She approached silently, which was very unusual for Tilly. In fact, it was the first time she was silent about anything. Gav handed Gwenilb?th to Des and took the food from her. "Here love. I think it's best for you to hold our daughter at this time."

Des was surprised by Tilly's behavior but took their daughter easily into her arms and smiling encouragingly to Tilly moved closer to her to give the majestic creature a better look at the tiny little girl. "Tilly this is Gwenilb?th come to finally meet ya."

Tilly approached the child reverently if not fearfully. Her nose touched the child's hand and Tilly closed her eyes.

>>Des filly is very special<< Tilly said to the minds of Des and Gav.

"Yes, she is," Gav responded and smiled.

>>No, Gavi, no....playmate girl is special. In time Gavi and Des will see.<<

Gav looked to Des, then to Gwenilb?th, wondering what the unicorn meant by 'special'.

>>Playmate girl is hungry. Tilly knows.<<

Des glanced between Tilly and Gav inquisitively as a shiver raced down her spine. Her arms instinctively holding their daughter closer to herself at Tilly's claim. She believed every word because if the Unicorn could sense it, then it must be true, for unicorns were magical creatures and Gavilean was half Elvin and Des herself had some telepathic powers. Granted she rarely if ever used them, but she did have them so if she had passed those on as well as Gavilean having passed on his heritage, who knew for certain just how special their child would end up being; but apparently Tilly knew already.

"It's okay Tilly. It will be okay Babe. I should probably feed the little one if she is hungry." She smiled trying to reassure everyone although she herself wasn't quite as reassured as she was projecting herself to be over this development.

Gav was also fairly concerned. His mother, whom Gwenilb?th was named after, was not only pure High Elven, but was an Elven princess of the royal line. It was difficult, in fact impossible, to predict how magical giftings would be passed on. It could be anyway along the scale from nothing to major magical powers. They would just have to wait and see. Tilly seemed to sense that this was not the time for playing but she didn't leave.

>>Des and Gavi don't worry. Tilly will protect playmate girl. Tilly will allow no harm to playmate girl.<<

Gav didn't know quite what to say. "Thank you, Tilly. We appreciate your protection over our daughter." He looked to Des and gave a little shrug. "Let's go to the library, my love. You can feed her there in privacy."

"Awww thank ya Tilly. That truly does ease my mind. Would ya like to come to the library with us for a while?" She smiled to the young unicorn then to her beloved husband as she moved a bit closer to Gav to put her arm back around his waist after settling their daughter comfortably in her other arm for the short walk to the library.

>>Tilly like come to library with Des and playmate girl<<

The unicorn actually led them to the library, and waited by the couch. Gav closed the door behind them and pulled the draps shut. He then led Des to the couch and sat down with her, moving very close.

Tilly was definitely acting different now that she had met the little Princess but Des continued to smile as she always did no matter the circumstances. She was very good at smiling through pretty much anything after all these years of public life, so her smile stayed in place as they were led to the library and she took a seat snuggled up beside Gav on the couch. Once she had their daughter started eating she glanced up. "I reckon this means more royal guards need to be assigned, Babe. Maybe we should see to that first thing. I really don't want to take any chances at all."

Gav nodded, "That might be a good idea, honey."

Tilly came close and laid her head on Des' lap so that her nose was almost touching Gwenilb?th. She was not even interested in the apple and carrots. Her interest was totally in her little playmate who would not really be able to play for some time yet. It was as if Tilly had already taken up her watch over the baby. Gav knew how valuable this could be. He leaned toward Des and placed a long, loving kiss upon her cheek. "I love you so much, baby," he said softly.
