On a torn out sheet of The Rhydian Rag tabloid, the following note was written in blue pencil, crammed in the space between the ?Worst Look of the Week? and the ?Guess Who?? gossip column. The word 'schemes' had been crossed out with a single line:

TDLF?
Saw the dragon and the new girl to-
gether in Arena. Looks like storage
closet might not be needed. Please
update on any schemes plans for
good-natured interference.
KVD.

The folded up paper was slipped under Des? door, its author delighted at the idea of playing a secret agent in her day-to-day busy bodying. She hoped the note was not too cryptic that its intended recipient would be at a loss.

The cowgirl couldn't miss the note and as she read it her smile grew until by the time she got finished reading it she let out a rebel yell that she was certain could have been heard by all the customer's in the common room downstairs.

Quickly she ripped out a page from the back of her mortal enemy that had been sadly neglected since her beloved French Pirate has been gone and penned a quick note in reply then sent it via one of the pages from the RDI.

Said dragon gave invitation for "private lessons".
Female took dragon up on offer.
Strangely have not seen dragon since.
Twilight Isle has been mentioned.
You ever go there?

Another note was left underneath a bar rag at the Inn:

Stardust --

Saw said lady after our last meeting. Do not believe the mage holds any ground with her. There has been kissing, and I mean REAL kissing, not the run-of-the-mill flirty type of kissing, between the lady and the dragon. Reported straight from the lady's mouth. Lady was inquiring about love potions, jokingly of course but jokes often turn out to be truths we can't fully admit without pretense.

Hope that babble makes sense. You know where to find me.

The dragon couldn't help but smirk at all the recon that was going on concerning him.

He also, couldn't help but put a bit of information up for grabs. So, he penned a note on an old note he had found lying around near the boards.

Stardust, Moonglow;

Dragon is immune to inquired love potions. Suggest finding more convential means. Lady's lessons are going good... dueling lessons. Matters still exist that cannot warrant more.

Kissing is good.. she can teach you two much.

A note was left held down by a basket of peanuts on the bar.

Moonglow,

Said mage turned attention elsewhere.
Elbows work wonders.
Silver Rose has a point about the potions.
Said dragon shunned said lady last night.
Need to re-evaluate storage closet for possible return to list.
Maybe a more visceral approach should be attempted.
Gold and diamonds giver has not been spotted yet.
New mage from said lady?s past has turned up.
Could mean complications.

Stardust

She was hoping her cohort would pick up on the reference to the third person they had spoken about that night that she was keeping a look out for.

They would have to be more careful about where they left their notes. Living vicariously through other people's love lives was serious work and they could not run the risk of having their business interrupted.

In truth, no risk existed but it proved more fun to be secretive about it.

To discourage anyone else from finding the note, the folded paper was hidden in a particularly nasty horde of dust bunnies near the bottom-shelf liquors.

Stardust:

Must avoid further infiltration. So many new points of intrigue. (!)
News of sudden change in dragon's affections unexpected. Additional details needed before storage closet or similar plan put into effect.
Any clues to who the first mage has turned to? So much for a love triangle there. Will be better off in the long run if new mage from the past does not interfere. Beware an old flame sparking again.
Relieved to hear the Stardust pants continue to remain safe from Gold & Diamonds.

This note was placed in a horde of dust bunnies left on the back of a shelf behind a bottle of bat?s blood.

Moonglow:

Agreed will be more careful!

We may have problem...
Egyptian is now in play.
New guy from Inn with ice roses is now in play.
Personally spoke with said dragon.
Said dragon is still in play.
Said mage took slight detour with Stardust and got elbows.
Said mage is still in play.
Found out new mage has sworn off women.
No sparking flames there after all.
Said lady is under seige!
Stardust is now happily engaged to most drooled over.

A ragged piece of crumpled up paper is buried among the peanut shells littering the far end of the bar from the door to the common room. The only thing leading to it?s whereabouts is a half drank mug of coffee with a particular shade of lip gloss on it.

Moonglow,

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!
Said lady has another suitor.
Sexy Scotish Lord has taken notice.
Left said lady speechless more than once!
I?m setting up book on this action.
You want a piece of it?

Nestled safe and sound at the bottom of a bowl filled with peanuts, the latest note was written on the back of an old receipt from Handsome Harry's Fabric Bonanza.

Stardust:

Sorry for the delay. The debutantes are in bloom and have me slaving away.
Curious what odds will be offered. There seem to be more players than I can keep track. Money on Scottish lord, probably will be the best bet but I've got a feeling there's an unknown wild card that will be thrown into the mix.
Saw said mage depart for a questionable 'adventure' with the Inked woman. Increase the odds, it doesn't look good for said mage and the lady.
Congratulations on the engagement!

He had, once again, come across one of the notes.. one from Stardust. So, being the dragon he was, he, of course, put in another note of his own, leaving it near where he found it.

Stardust, Moonglow...

I would like to place odds on the dragon. I feel he still has.. tricks. And a dragon does not give up his treasure.

As for the Scotish Lord.. I understand he only left her speachless cause she could think of no retort to his comments, not for the flattery he undoubtly stole.

I understand that the lady's personal 'lessons' from said dragon are going well, and are.. growing. With a certain General around while said dragon is not, she is growing in her fighting styles in multiple ways.

Oh, I am also to understand that said dragon will be gone for a while. Rumor is he will be looking for a brother? Unknown information.. will have to learn more. With said dragon out of the picture for so long, it should be interesting to see the 'dog pack' flocking to the lady and sniff about trying to get what scraps they think are due to them.

The dreaded Silver Rose had struck again!! She was fuming as she tore the note into tiny little pieces and tossed them into the fireplace. Des knew she was going to have to be much sneakier in where she left her notes but since Silver Rose knew her so very well it was no wonder they could find her notes and not Koy?s. Pacing the common room she flipped over half empty baskets of chips, pretzels, and peanuts in search of the latest secret agent note until at last she found the one from Koy.

Sitting down to read it with a mug of fresh coffee she had to chuckle. Koy was right just last night she had gotten word of a wild card. From a direction that she herself would never had guessed it would have come. The visit had hit her literally out of the wild blue yonder and she was still stunned by it this very morning.

Des wasn?t sure if this would prove to be the one that her fellow secret agent, in this little game that they meant to be completely harmless they were playing, was talking about or not but it had got her thinking and so she flipped the receipt over and scribbled a little note back on it then stuffed it into a chink between two loose bricks at the hearth that were down way low by where Herscel the drunk slept most of the time.

Moonglow:

Twilight Isle is hot bed of activity regarding said lady.
Tower Keeper challenged said dragon to duel just to walk said lady home!
Need more info on Tower Keeper fast.
They hold record for most successful Tower defenses in a row is all I know about them.
Do you have more personal info?

This note she left taped to a bottle of scotch for his easy pickings.

Silver Rose,

Get out of the Secret Agent business before someone gets hurt!
I have my special super-duper Secret Agent weapon primed and ready for the next intrusion!!
If you know what is good for you you will stay away from my notes!
No fair pulling general in on this!!
Will speak to his wife if need be to even up odds again.
Good luck on trip.
I?ve got you on book.

Hidden in the heart of the latest edition of The Oracle, scrawled on the back of a breakfast coupon for The RhyDin Diner, the following note was left for the only person who would know how to respond:

Stardust,

Was MIA. Have been trapped by less interesting work.
Requesting the latest details on the natives.
Have seen there's a new player in our field putting her notes into print. How accurate are her sources?

Des was cleaning up behind the bar in the Inn when she came across the discarded copy of The Oracle. One hand rubbing her suddenly upset stomach, thanks to a whiff of grease from the kitchen, she sat herself down at a table with a handful of saltines and a glass of sparkling ice cold water to thumb through the paper while waiting for her queasiness to pass this time. All the while she was muttering darkly about slow poisons and daggers twisting in sexy abs beneath her breath.

She perked up immediately upon spotting the secret agent note. It had been weeks since she had seen or heard from her friend from The Outback, the lovely Koy, who adored a good knock down, drag out fist fight just as much as she herself did and was in fact her secret agent buddy.

Nibbling on a cracker she read the note with a wicked little grin. At the moment things appeared to be heating back up between the two she and Koy had been watching and so she got herself a pen and ripped off the corner of the front page that had the picture of explosion on it and wrote a reply then stuffed it just beneath the edge of Icer?s broken down couch where she knew it would be safe from intruders until her counterpart could claim it.

Moonglow,

Thought you were gone for good!
Said lady is living at *the* library.
We need to meet to discuss plans.

Koy did her best to remain inconspicuous while searching the Inn for the latest development in their Files. She grabbed a bowl of pretzels from an occupied table and stuck her fingers in it, pushing the pretzels around in hopes of finding some clue. Only when she realized the patrons who had been enjoying the salty snacks were gawking at her did she flash an apologetic smile and return the bowl to its rightful place.

No one ever said Koy was subtle. She also was covered with the bumps and bruises one could only receive from an all-out fist (and feet) fight so no one really said anything to Koy. Between the Diamond Quest and the Iron Fists League Koy was collecting a kaleidoscope of bruises.

Deciding to inspect the couch, Koy plunged her hand into the ickiness that lied beneath the old cushions. As her fingers tried to avoid half-eaten pieces of candy, Koy started to idly wonder if her recent concussion from the DQ was affecting her ability to hunt down the notes Des left for her when she found what she was looking for.

Success!

Pocketing the two nobles she found along with the note, Koy read with delight. Pulling out a ticket stub from the Iron Fist Garden, Koy scratched the following note which she then hid in a dusty cobweb behind the bar:

Stardust,

Co-habitation? Sounds serious. So much for the fun of betting on who said lady would choose.

In other news, the Dear Quiet One and a certain mage ran off into the Slavgeld woods to do more than have a candlelit dinner. The pair looked like two teenagers. My guess is that they acted more like jackrabbits in the safety of the forest. Same thing I guess.

Find me at that place where those things are.

The petite bar tender was cleaning up behind the bar with her nose crinkled in disgust as she used a long handled broom to sweep up the cobwebs that had seemingly accumulated overnight. She didn?t like spiders much but as long as they stayed in their corners and out of her sight they could live together in peace. At least she wouldn?t stomp them or squish them anyway.

But these webs just were a mess so there she was batting them down and sweeping them away in preparation for her next time tending bar when a piece of paper caught her eye. She pulled it toward herself with the bristles of the broom not wanting to go digging in among the sticky, dusty webbing with her bare hands.

Her eyes lit up as she saw it was a ticket stub and because of where the stub was from she knew it could only be from one person. Rapidly she scanned the writing eager for the latest news. Des laughed out loud rather loudly then glanced around to see who was there might have heard her upon reading the note and realizing immediately who her friend was referring to.

She had a few tales herself to tell about this one and wasn?t going to hesitate in the least to share her news on them. She put down the broom and made her way over beside the till and grabbed up a random bar tab, flipped it over and began to write.

Moonglow,

Mage has many does.
You wouldn?t believe it!
I can?t even name them all
on one sheet of paper.

Sorry didn?t have time to talk
other night.

Any word on Ring holder R's
romance? Last I knew they
were making a list.

Stardust

Glancing around the place and the few patrons she carefully chose her place to stash this note. Casually Des strolled over toward the stairs and sat down on the bottom one as though just listening to the conversations and sipping her herb tea. In the process she tucked the folded up note in a crack between the first step and the second then after a suitable amount of time had passed she stood and returned to her cleaning as though nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
