Gavilean and Des Starfare said goodnight to Brian, comforting him with the promise that they would fine a way to cure Charlotte.
The royal carriage was waiting for them by the stable, to take them to Westridge and then to Pine Ridge Castle. They could not take a portal to the castle since, for security reasons, there was only one portal that opened within Westridge, and that was always well guarded and located within Arda Castle in the capital city of Westridge. They would soon find much use for that portal, but not on their honeymoon.
The large carriage, pulled by six horses, left downtown RhyDin through the Dragon?s Gate and headed west. The two newlyweds were finally alone with none of the pressures and obligations that came when they were in the city.
The last several weeks had been very tiring for Gav and Des, especially for Des as she handled the wedding invitations, dealt with all the Westridge assistants including Miss Partinger, took care of flowers her gown and most of the other preparations. Even with the help of so many servants, to make so many preparations in such a short time was stressful. Gavilean had to attend the affairs of the kingdom while in the midst of wedding preparations, so he was also very relieved that the wedding and coronation was behind them.
Gavilean put his arm around Des and drew her close to him as the carriage traveled westward through the night. Hugs turned to kisses, kisses to exploratory touches, and those touches brought the fire of passion that led to amazingly sensual lovemaking upon the soft, large cushioned seats of the carriage ? seats that were designed to pull out into beds.
They made love for hours; then naked, warm, perspiration-glistened, sweet-smelling bodies fell asleep in each other?s arms, and to the soothing motion of the gentle swaying of the carriage.
The carriage entered the borders of Westridge just before sunrise. Then continued along the Weston Highway for another twenty miles before turning northwest on a much smaller road that led to the mountain region of the Great Pine Forest in eastern Westridge.
As the sun rose in the east, the carriage continued to climb in altitude along a forest road that twisted its way through deeply forested terrain. A cool morning fog rose from the forest floor with the scent of the pine and forest strong and refreshing. The carriage continued deeper into the forest and traveled along a river for a few miles before crossing over though a covered bridge.
The sun had already been up for two hours when the carriage road onto the bluestoned path that led up to the front of Pine Ridge Castle.
