"I am not the one."

-= Setting the scene: This took place after the Baronial Challenge on June 26, 2006 when Tass and Rena dueled for the right to be Baron of the Old Temple district in DoS. Tass had stormed out right after the duel without speaking to anyone and without passing the ring to Rena as is customary. =-

Gavilean kissed Des. His arm around her neck.

Des shivered delicately and blushed as she glanced to Kyndra with a concerned look on her face. ?Do you know how to find him right now Darlin'??

Kyndra was looking at Des. ?No, I don't.? The frown on her face showed her concern.

Gavilean too was feeling badly for Kyn.

The cowgirl Queen glanced to Gav then back to her friend. ?He didn't give you a token to take you to him yet??

A tear welled in her the Scotswoman?s eye. ?No..he hasn't...?

Des moved to put an arm around Kyn's waist as she spotted the tears coming to her eyes, her gaze resting with concern on her husband as she wanted to do something to help their friend Kyn but wasn't sure just what to do. ?I have one ya know Darlin'...?

Gavilean nodded, agreeing with Des...knowing she had one.

Well she might be dead meat for what she was about to do but he would have to get through her husband first and that would prove impossible she figured so the token she had kept for years was in her hand and extended to Kyndra. ?Use it to ever harm him and *I* will skin you alive millimeter by millimeter woman and there will be no place that you or anyone that you might hire to harm him can hide from me and mine. Do you understand me??

Kyndra put her arm around Des. ?Yes I do...? She looked up at Des suddenly realizing what she was doing. ?Oh Des!!!?

Gavilean stood watching in shock at what his wife was doing...only then realizing how much she must care about Kyndra.

?Oh I wouldn't be able to harm him....I..I..couldn't...I care for him too much.?

There were tears in navy blue eyes as she nodded to Kyndra, at her words of reassurance, while offering her the token that had been hers for so very long. Something that indeed meant her very survival at times through the years she was now offering to her friend. Freely given because she knew how much the dragon meant to Kyndra and that he needed someone that loved him and could give him what she no longer could.

The retired Warlord watched Des, his hands on her shoulders, loving her so much.

?Oh Des...? Kyndra still didn?t know what to say. She wanted to take it so badly. ?Des. I can't....its yours...? Her heart was filled with love for her friend.

?This will take you to him wherever he may be at any given moment in time Kyndra.? Her hand was shaking now as she held the token outward toward her. ?Yes it is mine but you don't have a way to get to him and he needs someone right now that loves him and I am not the one. I love Gav.?

The Scotswoman?s heart raced...as she reached out to take the token. ?Yes..I do love him...with all my heart...? She wraps her hand around the token then wraps her arms around Des to give her a hug. ?Oh thank you...thank you...thank you!!! I have been lost without him these past few weeks....?

Gavilean smiled at Kyn's words as he watched the two friends.

Des hugged her friend tightly and smiled through her tears. ?You are very welcome Kyndra. I know that you will take good care of it and you will use it wisely. Remember that it will protect you now my friend.?

They were both crying as Des let her go slowly and smiled softly to Kyn. ?You'll see, everything will be all right Hon.?

?I hope so..?, said Kyndra as she let go of Des.

Des moved back to her husband's side and wrapped an arm around his waist then leaned up on tip toe to kiss him softly and whispered against his lips, ?I love you.?

Gavilean replied in the same way, ?I love you too, Des...very, very much.?

Kyndra waited until the couple?s private moment had passed before asking, ?Do you think he would want me to find him? He left in such a hurry...?

Knowing Tass as she did Des didn?t hesitate in her answer. ?Not tonight. I would wait until morning were I you Darlin'.?

Gav was quick to help the women out by offering a man?s point of view. ?Yeah...men need some alone time after something like that.?

Kyndra added, ?That's what I was thinking...?

?Usually it takes him a few hours to cool down after such things as this.? She was leaning lightly against Gav's side as she smiled warmly to their friend and one of her best friends.

?I think I'll head upstairs for a bit..? Kyndra gave them both a hug and headed up the stairs to the Inn.

The couple both returned the hug then headed up the stairs themselves but only smiled and waved to those in the common room as they quickly made their way through. They headed on outside and through the streets to their apartment hand in hand.

"It is no longer mine."

-= Setting the scene: This happened on June 30, 2006 during a chance encounter on the street. =-

The cowgirl Queen spotted her friend Kyndra on the street and waved flagging her down as she ran over to her with a bright smile. "Howdy Darlin'!"

Kyn began to grin as she spied her best friend flagging her down. "Hiya Des!!! How ya been?"

"I'm great Kyn. How about you?" She stepped to the side to let the other pedestrians on the streets this day go by them easier, giving her a quick hug then smiling as she tilted her head to the side with an inquisitive look to her.

She stepped to the side with Des and gave her a quick hug in return then a soft smile replaced her grin "I'm glad to hear you are doing well today. I'm doing okay I guess....I've actually been looking for you. I've needed to talk to you or rather I need to give you something."

"Ya need to give me something?" She was puzzled and gave Kyndra a very strange look.

"Do you mind if we go somewhere a little less noisey?"

"No. Not at all." Des looked all around until she found an alley. It was broad daylight and although it probably wasn't the smartest thing she could do she nevertheless grabbed Kyn's hand and lifted a foot quickly to secure one of her daggers then headed for the opening to it with her friend. "This here outta do just fine for keeping out noisy people Darlin'. Don't worry I'll protect ya!!"

Catching Des' look, she nodded "Yes, I do". Des grabbed her hand with a dagger in the other and headed for an alley. "Oh Des, I know you'd protect us." Once in the alley, she looked at Des with moist eyes as she started to speak slowly "Des, I've been doing a lot of thinking since the night of Tass' challenge."

Navy blues continually scanned their surroundings for the thieves she knew frequented such places as she listened to her friend speaking. Her heart skipped a beat as she began to fear bad news was coming and she stopped her observing of their surroundings to look at Kyn's face. "What is it Darlin'?"

Still not knowing what or how she was going to say, she paused for a moment to collect her thoughts. She reached into her hidden pocket just inside the top edge of her bodice to take out that precious token that she had kept close to her heart since Des had given it to her just the other night. "I need to give this back to you" Her voice trailing off a bit as she was not able to keep back the tears.

"He gave this to you and not me" She found she had to pause again before continuing. "I fear that it will make him mad if I should have your token. I don't know if he knows I have it or not...but I don't want to do anything to make him mad. I care about him too much. I almost used it the other day but was too fearful of his reaction when he saw it was me not you that called for him"

The cowgirl Queen glanced at the token and blinked then looked back up to the tears in her friends eyes and shook her head slowly while forcing herself not to take a step back away from the token being offered back to her. "I saw Tass last night and he asked me where was my token and I said to 'em ya know where it is or ya wouldn't be asking me and he didn't look mad to me Darlin'."

Blinking as she listened to her friend Des speak, a small furrow formed as she had a quizzical look on her face. "How would he know? I didn't tell him"

A warm chuckle escaped her lips that couldn't be held back had she wanted to at the question. "Darlin' Tass always knows where his tokens are no matter who he has given them to."

Kyndra thought for a moment, still learning all the abilities of a dragon. The furrow softened as she thought, her fingers wrapped around the token. "You don't think he minds that I have your token? I have been so worried because I know how moody he can be."

Des smiled softly to her and wrapped her fingers around the hand that held the token and gave a little shove of it toward her friend. "It is no longer mine. I have gifted it to you. Yup, he sure can be moody at times but he is a dragon and they do get that way. Now that you have this it is up to the two of y'all to work it out between ya."

She reached up to wipe away the tears just before wrapping her arms around Des. "Oh Des!! Thank you! Thank you for everything"

Her smile grew as she put both arms around her in a tight hug. "You just be very good to him Darlin'. That is all I have ever wanted for him and for you too. You are very welcome. I hope that everything turns out well for y'all. If ya need anything you just let Gav and I know and we will be there for ya."

The Scotswoman released her friend as she smiled warmly. "Oh I promise to be good to him...with all my heart, I promise. It is so wonderful to have friends like you and Gav."

She grinned to her before taking a quick look around to make sure they were still safe then nodded to her. "It is good to have a friend like you too Kyn. Gav and I are very lucky indeed."

Not even realizing their safety was comprised by being in the alley till now as she was thinking of one thing only before "Shall we head back to the street before you have to use that dagger?" Smiling widely as her spirits had been lifted by her talk with Des and once again, she returned the token to the hidden pocket which will hold it close to her heart.

Des grinned again and nodded once more to her as she moved slightly behind her to escort her friend back to the street. "Yup! I'm thinking we have tempted fate plenty long enough Darlin' and should get back to where there are other people around before you have to use that there token to save yourself already!"

Detholalle

-= Present day =-

?Your choice.? The words quietly spilled into the shaded grotto where Des was curled up on a soft cushion of moss watching lazily as the day drifted by. Much like the steam stretching out before her in a clear blue winding path.

A slender left hand was held up before her gaze so that she could look at the thing that she held most sacred, her wedding ring. That very thing was inscribed over and over on the inside of the band in Elven, ?Detholalle,? she repeated it aloud.

This time as it was spoken she thought about what it really meant to her. She and Gavilean had talked about it and the special qualities that Thulin had given her wedding ring before her beloved husband had placed it on her finger when they got married but the cowgirl Queen hadn?t really had time to spend actually considering what it all meant to her until now.

?Detholalle,? she whispered it softly to the warm honeysuckle scented breeze that blew lightly across her as lashes drifted closed and memories began to take shape for sorting through.

Every since she could remember being in RhyDin it had been one set of scrapes after another it seemed. Constant threats of some sort. Death, slavery, imprisonment, she was fairly certain she had heard them all by now at some point in time thrown at her.

Beaten up, cut up, banged up, bruised up, spit on, drinks thrown on and at her, she was fairly certain pretty much what could be done had been done in some form or another to her or she had seen it being done.

Growing up on the farm had prepared her for hard work and making her own way in the world but it hadn?t prepared her for life in RhyDin. She didn?t have the word ?Venom? tattooed on her body for no reason. She had learned the hard way how to survive in RhyDin and could, and would, throw down with the best of them in a heartbeat, or less, with little to no provocation.

Hanging out in The Outback, the Arena, on Twilight Isle, and tending bar in the Red Dragon Inn had taught her what she needed to know. Being her usual friendly and welcoming self and therefore making plenty of friends along the way had helped a whole lot in lessening the impact of all those threats.

But still with all the skill she had and all the knowledge she had gained there were those rare times when nothing she could do could save herself through no fault of her own. There were still those moments when some fool idiot would take it into their heads to threaten her and they would manage to catch her off guard.

Granted these days those times were extremely rare but they did happen and then she was caught, trapped like a wild thing in a cage with no place to go and no way out and no help in sight, or so they thought.

There was no power in the entire multi-verse stronger than her love for Gavilean and in the wedding ring that he had given her was all the love that he felt for her engraved in that single word repeated over and over within. Detholalle. Your choice.

For in that ring he had not only given her the symbol of his love but had given her her choice of how to protect herself from that day forward from all harm that might threaten her at any given moment in time.

She could now chose to go to him, bring him to her, or go to wherever they called home at the time just by making a choice. When it came right down to it though Des had already made her choice and Forever and Always and Two days it would be Gavilean.
