AJ left the inn late that night. She felt tired, too tired to walk all that way from the inn back to her and Phillipe's home. After Brandon gave her what seemed like a magical shot, she felt alright enough to walk outside and try to get a ride off of someone. Phillipe might kill her for hitch hiking, but it probably doesn't count as that when you know the majority of the city, right? She was practically waddling down the steps of the inn, when she started feeling that now familiar twinge in her lower back. Her eyes closed tightly shut as she stopped at the bottom of the steps. She looked at the street and waved someone down...he sure looked familiar, and she hoped that it was, and it was Newt.
"Heya AJ! What do you need?" He was in a horse drawn carraige, and that threw AJ into a tail spin, but before she could ask, he answered. "It's your father's... I was actually coming in to check on you for him. Everything fine?"
AJ nodded slowly before she moved on to the other side of the carraige, petting the horse as she walked by. It took her a minute to climb up inside, but she did it without Newt's help really and not too long after that, they were off.
"Oui, I'm fine for now. I will let you know if anything changes..." She was staring down at her lap and winced slightly for a moment. Newt was instantly concerned and looked over to her. "You alright...?" And she nodded slowly. "Oui, just in a little... pain."
The carraige went on for a minute or so before he stopped, right by Phillipe and AJ's home, and her turned over to look at her. "I know you're full term, do you think you could be going into labor?" AJ nodded slowly and took a short breath. "Actually I know I am. I have been having contractions all day and for some reason, I just know."
Newt's eyes got wide and he turned to climb down from the carraige before moving to the other side where AJ is, to help her down. "Oh jesus... did your uh... water break yet?" His eyes were still wide and he seemed like he was in a panic. Newt did not know the first thing about babies and childbirth, and he was not about to deliver a baby, so he was greatly relieved when AJ said no. "Alright, well I'll help you upstairs and then I'll go get Soul."
And that is exactly what he did. Every other step however, AJ had to stop and curse at exactly why in the world did they still live upstairs, or why she had to wait so long to tell anyone, or maybe why she was even pregnant in the first place. Newt was just there, holding her arm every step they took until they reached the top. He then lead her to the couch and moved up the second set of steps that lead to Alex's room.
He tapped lightly on the door before he heard her cursing at him. "What?! If AJ's not in labor right now I am going to kill you Phillipe!!!" And Newt opened the door. "Shush!! Shut up shut up! Phillipe isn't away yet, and we're not going to wake him up yet!" Alex sat up and turned away from him. "Well then I'm guessing she's just having contractions, and her water didn't break yet, Why should I be there right now? She's a big girl" Alex laid back down and put the blankets over her head... Now Newt got a little mad there and stormed over to the bed.
"Because she's your sister and she's going into labor and she's probably scared. Because you need to be awake in case her water breaks, and she can't get up to get Phillipe. So you can comfort her... whatever the hell you need to do. I would stay but I have to get Soul." Alex looked at Newt with fire in her eyes, but it when away as soon as he gave her a kiss on her forhead. "Please, AJ's not invincible." And Alex nodded and got out of bed, moving down to the living room with Newt on her heels, but he went straight to the other staircase and down.
Alex sat beside AJ, and for a few moments they were silent. AJ laughed a little, and for some reason Alex did too. Maybe they were laughing at the stress? Who knows... but AJ did speak up. "Merde, this is the first time something big is going on and I am forced to sit down." Alex nodded. "You feeling alright?" And then AJ nodded. "I'm going to try to sleep for a little, you do the same."
And what do you know... Alex fell right to sleep, but sleep did not come so easy for AJ. She kept staring at the ceiling wincing in pain every so often. They pain became more intense as time passed. At first it was like a cramp, but the pain just kept getting worse. When the pain was not present she fell in and out of dreams. Dreaming of twins, dreaming of her husband holding a baby boy. Dreams of her father smiling at them with pride...
But she woke up feeling her dress dampen. The couch was wet as well and she blinked a few times, then felt the pain once more. "Merde..." Trying to keep as quiet as possible as she swore at the pain, but then she realized, she needed Phillipe. "Alex!" Was said slightly above a whisper.
Alex stirred and sat up, looking at AJ in the dark, raising a brow. "What? What do you want?" And her foot caught a feel of the damp couch. Her eyes widened and before AJ could speak any further she got up and made a sprint for the bedroom door where Phillipe was. Screw knocking at this point!! Alex opened the door and it smacked off of the wall behind it and before Phillipe even sat up she ran to the bed, grabbed all of the blankets and threw them off of the bed. Phillipe groaned and threw a pillow at Alex. "You have enough blankets! Stop stealing mine!" And Alex opened up the closet door and grabbed all the blankets she could, and pillows of course and dissappeared out of the room. Phillipe turned over in his sleep and before he fell back asleep she came in with an air horn.
She told AJ to cover her ears so it wouldn't startle her, so Alex had no sympathy when she blew the horn, once... for a split second. Phillipe jumped up, flailed, and fell off of the bed. "Thanks Phillipe... you should go in the living room." He narrowed his eyes at her, now wide awake as ever and asked. "Why?"
"Because Phillipe... AJ is going to give birth tonight."
