Several weeks ago?..

Phillipe took the book. "Thank you." He thought for a moment. "If...If Aj ever forgives me for what I've done... I will tell her about you. Maybe someday, when she's ready, she can help you."
Soul smiled a sad smile, even for a raptor. "Perhaps." he said simply, and watched as Phillipe disappeared down the street.

Tonight?.

RaptorSoul secretly watched from the window as the two people laughed and carried on inside the teashop. Ever since the incident with the spellbook, Soul had watched the girl carefully. His suspicions had grown each day. She was very powerful. Far more powerful than seemed possible, given her parentage. Her mother was indeed powerful, but not as much as Aj, and her father had been only minimally magical. There was something special about this girl.
When the DarkMass creature had attacked her, he had nearly revealed himself to her, but had resisted at the last moment and kept his distance. It was only after Phillipe had been captured, that he had stepped in to help, and then it was only indirectly.
It was he who had found the owl, Inkspot, after the man Beowulf had died. It was he who had shown the owl where the cave was, after tracking the creature himself. And it was he who had told the owl about cursed blood and it?s immunity to the DarkMass creature. Soul knew this from personal experience, for he had faced such a creature himself many years ago, and his own curse had saved him then. He had recognized the signs of a curse upon the strange minstrel man and told the owl about Soerl Lute, and the owl had performed admirably. Indeed, Soul had been looking forward to the owl?s return afterward, but was dismayed when he had found the owl dead several days later, it?s eyes black as night.
Now he was all but convinced of whom Adrianna really was. And if she really was?
His mind whirled at the thought of it.
He looked at the two in the shop again. The young man was causing a scene, making the owner angry. It made Soul smile. This ?Mouse? character was interesting as well. Soul had dealt with him before, and found him to be quite brave, despite his complete lack of Magical skills. He had faced Soul eye to eye, and Soul had found him worthy of respect. This man named Phillipe was very good to Aj and she loved him, it was obvious. They made a good pair.
But he wasn?t quite ready to face her yet. Their first meeting would most likely be a bad one in any case, since she knew his name and that he was responsible for having Phillipe steal her spellbook. No, he would have to continue watching and wait for the right moment.
