Word had reached High Princess Shi'Nayne that her mother had somehow made it back to Rhydin. What baffled her to the ninth degree was the lack of *seeing* her mother. Why hadn't she come home? Why hadn't she tried to contact her? She'd been gone for over 2 years with nary a word of how, what, when, where or why? Well she knew some of it. Just not all of it. So many mixed reports, plus what little her mother told her before leaving.

Nayne knew her mother had been searching for her step-father, Arch Fane. Of course he was more of a father to her then her birth father. Arch had raised her and her siblings alongside her mother for many peaceful years. But for some reason the word peace doesn't seem to stay with you if you are a drow, or in her case half drow.

"Send word to my sister in Babylon that mother has been seen..."

"No need sister, I have heard the news. You'd have to be deaf not to hear the servants? excited chatter. Something has happened to mother, I have tried to communicate with her and I get nothing. I can feel her life force but that is it."

Shi'Nayne narrowed her eyes once she heard this news from her sister, Elvanshalee. "Well I guess that would explain why she hasn't made it home yet."

"Hmmm, yes I would say so. But, there is something else." Shalee's voice was a bit concerned yet playful all at the same time.

"Oh please Shalee out with it. I've no time for games this day."

"Well, it would appear that our step-father Arch Fane is alive as well. When I searched for mother's life force I found him in her proximity."

"Are you sure? Are you serious? Father is with her?" Nayne's voice sounded totally stunned by this news.

"Of course I am sure. He is our father after all; I would know his life reading anywhere. It's the first time I've felt it in a long time. That's why I came to the surface from Babylon to share this news with you directly."

"This is excellent news. Just excellent. Now if we could find our dear brother Sabrar, life would be perfect."

With this Shalee snorted, "Right, like you are going to find that weasel. He's the main reason mother has been gone like this, I wouldn't doubt if he had something to do with father's departure as well."

"He has been lead a stray Shalee. I refuse to give up hope on him. We are triplets, we have a bond. That is something no one in the end can take away from us. He will return."

"You are such an optimist Nayne, I'm sure he will return. But not in the way you'd wish it. I must go back to Babylon. With our birth father plane hopping to god knows where, someone has to run that city. If I don't things in the Underdarke will get nasty."

"Yes, yes...I know. Same with Mana. The natives are getting restless. I think we should wait for mother to make her appearance. Things may not be as them seem."

"Hmmm, yes I agree. Let's go about our daily business and when she's ready...she'll come home."

"Agreed Shalee. Agreed. Let me know if you need anything."

"Don't I always?" Shalee said with a smile, then teleported back to the depths of the Underdarke where the City of Babylon resided.

Shi'Nayne watched her sister port away with a small smile gracing her lips. Sometimes her sister was just too much! Now if she could get her mother home, that would be one more step to getting her family back together.

Days had passed and still no sign of her mother. Shalee told her their father had pulled her back from where ever her mind had tried to take her. Of course the news that Arch Fane was alive was startling to Nayne in the end of it all as well. So much turmoil in her family and Nayne was so tired of it all. Tired of running Mana by herself, tired of her family being torn to all the ends of the universe and just plain tired.

"I'm out of here. Felica, I'm going for a ride. I'll return later and NO I do not need any guards. I'll be fine." Before her lady in waiting could protest the head strong princess marched out of the castle and in the direction of the stables. Nayne had enough of the courtly manners, she'd had as much as she could stand for one day. All she wanted right now was the wind blowing through her hair and the feel of her horse beneath her as they galloped across the open meadows. Yes, that is just was the cleric ordered.

Freedom. Even if but for a short time.

It wasn't long before Shi'Nayne and her grey mare, Jade galloped out of the gate and across the meadow. If you listened close enough you would have heard laughter dancing across the flowers and zipping between the bees. Freedom was a beautiful thing.

Ok so riding out in the freedom of the world was just freakin' fantastic! Of course what she wasn't expecting was the fantastically horrible rain storm to come barreling down upon her out of nowhere. "By all that's holy! How did I manage to get myself into this!" Her voice was lost in the thralls of a violent thunderstorm as she tried to find some sort of shelter. Before she knew it, she was dead lost. Nowhere to run too, nowhere to hide. Shi'Nayne got off her mare and led her by the reins, head down against the wind and blinding rain.

Onward she stumbled into the night, slipping and sliding.

He'd been bloody lucky to find the cave before the downpour. Without a horse to worry about and only the pack on his back, the small cave was plenty big enough for his bedroll and a small fire. Toren sat with his back to the wall, eyes closed listening to the storm. Each thunderclap rumbled through the ever present sound of rain hitting the leaves, the ground, the rocks. With the crackling of the fire, it was a pleasant sound.

In his pack was the latest bit of knowledge he'd been looking for. A small personal journal with reference to a mage who'd once participated in some magical duels somewhere called dusk isle or something like that. Toren couldn't quite make out the entirety of the script and the translation was difficult. In the bits he had been able to translate, the stories were vague and the references were less than ideal but Toren felt like he was getting closer to finding out more of his family.

Rustling about in the back of the cave were his two fuzzy companions, a pair of ferrets that wandered a bit but always found their way back to him. It had been they who had found him the cave so he didn't object when they scouted through his pack to relieve him of his provisions. A faint smile played across his features.

His sword chittered something from it's scabbard and nearly glowed when Toren opened his eyes and let his gaze fall in that direction. He frowned. "What's got your scabbard in a twist?" His eyes went to the mouth of the cave.

"There's nobody there, you silly sword."

Bad rain was one way to think of this storm, but all out blinding was more like it. If it was the rain blowing in her face it was the lightning bolts making you see spots for several long seconds after each blast.

"Jade, I'm so sorry girl. I hadn't thought it would be like this." If her mare could have heard her, maybe she would have whinned a response but at this time the princess's words were gone with the wind.

It was at that opportune moment she stepped into a gopher hole, sending wrenching pain up Shi'Nayne's leg. It surprised her so much that she actually yelled out in pain. Normally her warrior instincts would have never allowed such a lapse. What if an enemy was nearby and heard her? Not likely in this storm, but you never knew.

"By all that's holy!" Shi'Nayne snarled in pain, "Let's just wake up the entire forest why don't we huh, Nayne?" She hobbled forward, obviously having a nasty sprain in her left ankle. As she moved forward the eyes of the pack followed her, the wolves encircling the unknowing princess and now their prey was injured. All the better. The blood lust of the upcoming kill sending shivers thru the pack. The 8 or so wolves would have a nice dinner tonight. The howl was not lost in the wind as her words had been, Shi'Nayne lifted her head and real fear gripped her heart. Had she not been injured it wouldn't bother her as much. She closed her eyes and called a ball of light into the cup of her hand. Hopefully the light would scare them away. She doubted it, but it was worth a try.

"I should have left the light out, Jade." She could see the light reflect back 8 pairs of eyes from various places, completely surrounding her. All glowing with a light of their own. "This is not good, not good at all."

Think think think!

She summoned a wall of force behind her, this would make the wolves attack from the front instead of behind her. As soon as her words of magic had begun, the wolves surged forward...three slamming into the wall, causing them to cry out in confusion, but enraging them all the more. Balls of magic missils flowed from her fingertips burning their fur but not slowing them down. No more spells could be cast now, her other spells would cause her harm if she used them in this close of a range. No now it was time for hand to hand combat. She didn't expect to see the morning.

A bubble started at her feet, rather small at first and perhaps looking like a bit of air caught in the mud at her feet. Then it grew; up and out pushing back the rain and wind engulfing the woman and her mount. The walls of the bubble sparkled with an incandescent light that sparkled every time rain touched it. Perhaps the woman would recognize the bubble for the magical protection it was and know she could leave although passing back within the walls of the glowing bubble would not be possible.

The not passing from the outside to the inside point being proven when the wolf charged the bubble with a growl of rage. Inside the domed shield, the popping sounds of electricity snapping could be heard mingling with the sounds of the wolf's whimper - the animals muzzle smoking from the electrical contact.

A man's form could barely be made out through the haze of the rain soaked night but a glowing sword cutting through the wolven aggressors was clear. It arched and danced, moving with an almost ethereal grace. Only when the way was clear and apparently safe did the shield pop then fade in a shimmer that died away, once more leaving the woman and her mare at the mercy of the storm.

The cloaked figure of the man stepped closer, his features somewhat visible in the night. "Are you injured?" He had to lift his voice over the gale that surrounded them. He was apparently ignorant of her initial scream, called to her aid by the active sounds of pack on the prowl and the insistent humming of the sword that found its way to the sheath on his back.

Shi Nayne

As the bubble engulfed her, Shi'Nayne almost bolted but knew this obviously wasn't the work of the wolves. They were here looking for easy prey, it was all part of the balance of nature. Thankfully she wasn't in that *balance* right now. After it was all said and done, the bubble now gone, the wolves dispatched, the rain still pelting down, her ankle throbbing and her faithful horse by her side...there stood a man, with obvious concern for her well being. She'd never seen him before and found it quite enchanting for some odd reason.

She opened her mouth to speak and winced in pain as she tried to take a step forward in an effort to thank him and only nodded in answer.

Toren

Date: 2007-01-07 22:18 EST
She nodded, acknowledging injury. He couldn't tend to her here in this environment and the wincing made it clear she could not walk. "Let's mount you up so we can get out of this rain." He offered her assistance to get her onto her mare. "There's a cave nearby."

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-08 10:07 EST
She hesitated for only a moment, knowing that she was at his mercy...given the circumstances of all the events surrounding this rather odd night. Shi'Nayne let him put her on her horse, who eyed him completely. Being a warhorse they would defend their owner until death, but in this instance the mare simply stood and allowed it. It wasn't long before he was leading them through the forest and back to this cave he'd spoke of.

Toren

Date: 2007-01-08 10:53 EST
Once on her mare, he led them back throgh the drenched trees to the cave where he'd left his little bandit duo. The lip of the cave extended enough over the opening that the horse could stay outside and yet not be bombarded by the rain. He helped the woman from her horse and supported her so they could enter the cave.

It was not a grand affair but it was suitable to keep a body warm and dry. He tossed a piece of wood onto the fire after getting her seated on a blanket that was originally intended to be his bed.

"What happened?" His voice was deep and, without the disturbance of the wind outside, he didn't have to yell to be heard. The flames licked at the fresh wood, giving off a friendly aura of warmth. "Where does it hurt?"

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-08 14:14 EST
Shi'Nayne rode in silence, not sure what to do at this point and time. She was in the hands of a stranger and for some reason it really didn't bother her. Which in itself made no sense. It was obvious by his questions that he didn't know who she was. He had no idea at all. Which made it even odder for her. Someone out there, nice and caring for another person? Wow...what a concept!

"I...ummm...went out for a ride this afternoon. Didn't see the storm and while I was out in the middle of it, I stepped in a hole and twisted my ankle. Nothing very dramatic, well that is...until the wolves showed up. They caught me off guard." Now she wondered how much of her magic he'd witnessed. She was nothing like her sister Elvanshalee who studied magic...her's came naturally and she really didn't have a big arsenal of spells to back her, not like her sister.

Toren

Date: 2007-01-08 15:37 EST
"Wolves have a tendancy to do that." He wasn't judging her, he had enough experience of his own wanderings to justify her words. Predators were predators and the successful often attacked when least expected. "I'm not much of a healer, I'm afraid. But I can brace your ankle and you can wait out the storm until it passes. You are not far from your destination, I trust?"

He offered a faint smile as his fingers gently moved down her calf toward the injured ankle. He had a leather wrapped stick that he intended to use to help support her ankle and some cloth to secure the brace to her leg. "Are you hungry?"

Sometimes changing the topic helped distract the mind from the pain at hand.

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-08 19:42 EST
She blushed just a bit when he asked about her destination, "Well right now I am lost because of the storm and yes I'm famished. But, I wouldn't want to take away from your supplies. I wasn't supposed to be out overnight. The castle can't be far from here." She grew silent for a moment, hoping she hadn't give out too much information. As her hair dried out by the warmth of the fire, the color of the rich silver started to shine once again, which was a startling contrast to her bright green eyes.

"My name is Shi'Nayne. I never really thanked you for saving me from the wolves."

Toren

Date: 2007-01-08 20:09 EST
After securing her ankle so it would be supported, his eyes flicked up to her face briefly at her words about not eating his supplies. His lips twitched into a little grin. "I'm hungry too but if you refuse to share what I have, I will be forced to abstain as well." He began drawing items out of his pack. "You'll not deprive me of the blessing of sharing a meal?"

He said little else while breaking the bread and using his dagger to slice bits of cheese from a brick he'd withdrawn from his pack. His own cloak laid out, took benefit from the fire and soon dried.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Shi'Nayne. I am Toren. I would have been no sort of gentleman had I let you perish." His smile was gentle as he passed the bread and cheese to her. "Enjoy, Shi'Nayne."

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-11 22:25 EST
She actually blushed a little when he spoke about sharing a meal with her. This kind of man just didn't appear out of nowhere. Where had he been her entire life? Oh yes, that's right she'd been stuck behind the walls of a castle.

"Toren? Interesting name. Do you live nearby? I've not seen you around before."

Yes, good Shi'Nayne...What a horrid pick up line and that name. Familiar? Perhaps.

Toren

Date: 2007-01-11 23:48 EST
"Toren? Interesting name. Do you live nearby? I've not seen you around before." Her words seemed to leave her somewhat flusted although he couldn't figure out why.

Toren settled back with his own bits of dinner, elbow propped against the hard wrapped cloth he used for a pillow. How to exactly answer that question? That was hard. Did he offer the whole truth, or just bits? Hmm.

He took his time chewing before he swallowed so he could reply, "I do not live nearby, no. This is a new realm to me. I've spent a good deal of time wandering this strange land. For a while, I found myself in a place called the Red Dragon Inn. Now, I am here."

For once, his sword remained silent.

"You mentioned a castle was nearby. If you are lost, how nearby would you be thinking it was? I don't recall seeing any signs of civilization in the near regions to our little camp. What can you tell me of the rulers of this land?" His question was carefully asked to seem a casual affair.

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-12 09:07 EST
When he asked about the land and then the rulers of the area, she almost choked on her cheese. So it was obvious to her at that time that he had NO idea who she is in reference to Mana. So now, to tell the truth? That probably wouldn't be a good idea, all things considered. Yes, he had helped her, but she was at his mercy given her injured ankle and their current residence.

"You are in a place called Mana or Lands of Mana to others. The ruler is Queen Samleanus Naisin Fane. The castle can't be too far from here since that is the general area from where I came. Most of the people of this land live within a 10 mile radius of the castle or out in the wilds. There are a few small towns scattered about, but not many. The people of Mana respect the land, they understand that they are guests let by the grace of the Land to live here." By the end of her little commentary, her voice had grown rather serene as she described her land to the newcomer.

Toren

Date: 2007-01-12 09:52 EST
It took a great deal of willpower to keep his hand from shaking when she introduced the land's name to her. Mana. That name was vaguely familiar. He'd read it once or twice in his recent searching. "Lands of Mana. You seem to be fond of the Land." He smiled then continued. "Your tone says it all."

Toren rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "If you wouldn't mind, do you think you could see your way clear to take me to this castle? Since it seems to be the hub of civilization in the area, perhaps I can find some information there. Perhaps there is a library?"

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-12 10:25 EST
Ok, as soon as they got close to the castle the entire thing would be over, he would find out her true indentity. Not that she hadn't told him her name or the actual ruler of Mana. She'd just left out the part that she was the Queen's daughter and current ruler while her mother was absent.

"What kind of information are you looking for? I might be able to help you. There is a library within the castle, an extensive one. Knowledge is not with held from the people. It is encouraged."

Toren

Date: 2007-01-12 14:34 EST
He ducked his head a little sheepishly for a moment before meeting her gaze again. "I'm looking for family history, Shi'Nayne. I doubt my family would have any connection to the rulers of the land but if this library had records of marriages and other civil activities, I may be able to find some information that could be useful."

Toren caught movement in the corner of his eye and glanced away from her to idly watch his two furry little friends cavort in a pile that consisted of his shirt from the previous day and his cloak. They tumbled and dook'd at each other until one bit the other a little too hard. Then the game was over and the rook of the two ran for cover, diving behind his pack and trying to unseat his sword from it's scabbord so he could use the scabbord for a hiding place. Since the sword was peace tied into the leather scabbard, there was no unseating it but Scamp had to try. It was part of the game.

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-12 16:58 EST
Shi'Nayne tilted her head just so with an odd little smile gracing her lips. "Toren? You are not from here, yet you are looking for family? What is their name, you might be surprised with the knowledge I have."

Toren

Date: 2007-01-12 18:36 EST
His smile was rueful. "I don't have a family name, really. I grew up with a family not my own. I have no memories of my birth mother and those that raised me did not see anyone but myself when they found me." He selected another piece of cheese and popped it into his mouth. He was quite for a moment before continuing. "All I could tell them was my own name."

"Things got a little crazy a few months ago and now I'm trying to figure out where my family was from and maybe see if they are out there."

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-13 23:25 EST
"Ok...How do you know what to look for if you only know your own name from the very beginning? Plus, how would you know to look here, in Mana? I would like to help the man who saved me in the forest." He seemed so sincere, so honest, so trust worthy? Is it possible to find these qualities in another human being?

"Toren," she took a deep breath and knew she was seriously going to be in for it, but what the heck...just as she was about to plunge in, she noticed something rather unusal. "There isn't a stream in here is there? Oh good grief, the cave is starting to flood!"

Toren

Date: 2007-01-14 10:43 EST
She had good questions and, although he didn't necessarily want to spill out everything in the first moments of meeting this stranger, he sensed sincereity in her. He was nodding that he understood, his explanation forming.

Water?

He scrambled up and glanced about. "I guess the ground is not ready to accept so much blessed rain from the heavens. Here." He helped lift her from the water that had started to pool, careful of her leg. "Let me see what I can do." With a gentle touch, he set her down farther back in the small cave on an outcropping of rock that was still dry.

Toren gathered up his things and shoved them to the side, his furry friends clamouring about in an attempt to stay dry. He plucked them up and set them on the outcropping by Shi'Nayne. "Scamp, Pearl .. Shi'Nayne. Behave kids."

Then he moved back, a wash of magics leaving his body to push back the water and create a rocky barrier around where they had been sitting. The floor shuddered a little as the change took place. A sparkling began in the center of the cave, forming into an elevated platform that would keep them off the ground even if some water go through. In the center of the platform was a low metal firepit with dry wood inside. Fire touched the bark and the warmth was soon starting to swell. Since he was making changes, a small lounge chair with some pillows appeared. It was suitable for a single person, slight of stature. He managed a few extra pillows for his own use, but with his fingers and face tingling he did nothing more.

He stood for a moment as if surveying the results of his magic. It was a good cover for the flicker of nausea and bit of light-headedness that he experienced. Strange magics. He'd never been capable of such big things but here, here it was a little easier even if it left him weak. He turned and offered a smile. "I think that will do."

Toren moved back and carefully lifted Shi'Nayne from where he'd set her. "Let's get you settled a bit more comfortably, Shi'Nayne."

Talk about his search and how he'd managed to get as far as he had would wait until she found herself on the lounge with her leg slightly elevated to help it. He retrieved his two little friends then went about getting his supplies onto the platform. Although wet and muddy, they would dry out in the fire and then he would have comfort when he slept as well.

"I apologize for the flooding. I had no idea the cave was going to betray us like that." His smile was apologetic.

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-15 17:21 EST
Shi'Nayne sat there totally stunned by the magics she had just witnessed. For once the princess was at a loss for words. This was just...simply...amazing.

"Toren, I don't know what to say. Why I haven't seen magic like that since Uncle Michael." She'd brought her fingers up to her lips looking at everything in wonder. "I've seen magic before, of course...but not like this." She studied him closer all of the sudden seeing him in a different ligiht, "Toren...who are you?"

Toren

Date: 2007-01-15 20:06 EST
His face flushed. During his time in the land, he had discovered that those who could wield magic were not thought of as evil or unnatural so he had let things just flow more than ever before. He had not, however, performed anything quite so large in front of anyone largely out of fear. He shrugged at her question.

"I honestly don't know who I am. I know my name is Toren. I've always been able to do unnatural things. After I reached manhood, the trifles grew more intense." He shrugged and settled down, resting after the exertion. His long fingers toyed with little strips of cloth that caught his nervous attention. "To answer your previous question about knowing what to look for .. I've been searching for a long time and have found bits and clues here and there. As strange as it seems, I have had a lot of help from my um .. well .. my .. sword." He cleared his throat and looked away. He knew how stupid that had to sound but it was the truth.

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-15 20:12 EST
Shi'Nayne listend to him and watched his face, he certainly seemed sincere in what he was saying to her.

"Toren, you getting help from your sword does not sound weird." Here she enhaled, "My mother's sword helps her all the time. Eternity. My mother is Queen Samleanus."

Toren

Date: 2007-01-15 20:15 EST
His eyes slowly swung back to her and sized her up for a long moment before his brows lifted. "You're a .. princess .. then?" His voice cracked a bit on the end of that statement. He cleared his throat and tried again. "Queen .. Samleanus." A frown flickered a little. "That name .. it seems familiar. I can't place why, though." He shook his head and glanced toward his scabbard.

His lips pursed for a long moment, then Toren sighed something that sounded rather longsuffering. His eyes shifted back to Shi'Nayne. "My sword says I'm on the right track."

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-15 20:20 EST
"Shhhh, don't tell anyone I'm a princess. It'll ruin my reputation!" Her green eyes twinkling a bit, "Don't worry, I don't bite and neither does my mother. When she's around that is. Like I said the library is extensive. I will help you Toren. It's the least I can do, given the circumstances. Besides, you really do seem, so...Honest."

Toren

Date: 2007-01-15 20:24 EST
He couldn't help but smile at her attempts to jest. A princess indeed. Toren inclined his head politely at her offer to help.

"Thank you, your Highness. I do appreciate your offer." He slipped his hand into his shirt and withdrew a medalion with a stylized D on it. "Secret for secret perhaps? I was found with this and I'm thinking it was from my father or mother. I cannot say but I did hear that a library of heraldics may contain a reference to it which could get me one step closer to finding my family."

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-15 20:32 EST
"It seems familiar to me, but I can't place it...This medallion of yours. Perhaps I've seen it somewhere before...but I honestly don't remember. Oh and out here....Shi'Nayne please...No highness...It's just us here. I'm not much on formalities."

Toren

Date: 2007-01-15 20:36 EST
He inclined his head to accept her words about not addressing her as royalty out here in the wilds. Toren let the medalion once more slip within his shirt. "Sometimes I wonder if I am being sent on a fools errand for all the help the sword seems to provide. Sometimes it's almost lucid and others, it seems gibberish. I mean .. do you know anything of a house of light?"

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-15 20:38 EST
"House of Light? No I've never heard of that. I mean we have different houses within the realm. We also have a Clan House that was once very prominent in the area. Oh and there's the different schools of magic. But no House of Light."

Toren

Date: 2007-01-15 20:41 EST
Toren shrugged. "I have heard so many stories and have searched through so many volumes that there are times I fear I cannot read anothe word else I'll lose my mind." He watched his two little furkids jump and play with each other on a corner of the dry platform. One had a piece of bark, the other was trying to obtain it.

"Thank you for your help, your ... um .. Shi'Nayne. I do appreciate your generosity."

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-15 20:44 EST
"Well you can't loose your mind, not when you perform such beautiful magic. That was quite beautiful you know and I should be the one thanking you, not the other way around. We'll ride to the castle in the morning. Jade will be able to carry both of us without a problem. Would you like to go to the library first?"

Toren

Date: 2007-01-15 20:49 EST
With the warmth of the fire crackling behind him and the gentle sound of her voice mingling with the rain outside, Toren decided he was in the very best place a mortal could be. And that passing thought gave him a slight start. He blinked at her and then nodded. "That would be most agreeable, Shi'Nayne. I doubt my journey within the library will be accomplished in a day. Perhaps if you could point out an inn where I might take my ease when I am not burning the candles, I would appreciate it."

Shi Nayne

Date: 2007-01-15 20:54 EST
"So you honestly think, that the man who saved my life is going to stay at an inn? Right. Sure. Keep dreaming Toren. You will stay in the guest room at the castle. It'll put you in easy access of the library and should you need me, I'll be there as well. Once we reach the castle, the clerics will be able to heal my ankle for me. I'll be right as rain in no time."

His face colored a bit at her comment about saving a life and room at an inn. "I would not presume hospitality, Shi'Nayne." He smiled a bit. "I do say that a guest room would be most appreciated. I am sorry but my talents do not seem to lie in the healing arts else I would have tended to your ankle myself. I am glad you have others who can help you."

He glanced down briefly. "It has been a long journey."

"Toren," she reached out and placed a comforting hand upon his arm, "No worries, I will help you. Mana is not a place of evil, Mana is a place where we live together with nature and care for the land with which with live. If your journey has led you here and your past lies within my family's realm, I will help you in any way that I can. Perhaps I can contact my mother and see if she is coming back to the castle any time soon. She has not been on this plane for some time and has only just returned."

Her words warmed him. At her touch, his eyes warmed. "I am most fortunate indeed for Providence to have granted me being in the right place at the right time, Shi'Nayne. Thank you."

He patted her hand and then rose. "It grows late. Let me get a blanet for you so when the fire dies down, you will not catch a chill. Then we can rest and be off early to a new, and hopefully much drier, day." Toren smiled as he rummaged about in his pack. It was not long before he produced a nice clean blanket all rolled up. "I think this will keep the nights cold from you."

"Yes but what about you? What happens when the fire gets low? I would not feel right taking your blanket, not when you've given me a bed with pillows. You should at least take the blanket. Please."

Toren shook his head and proceeded to tuck the blanet around her. "I will be well taken care of. I have another blanket and two little friends to keep me warm. Sleep, Shi'Nayne. Tomorrow, I think, will be a rather long day."

After the trials of such a long day, she found herself drifting off to sleep with Toren's comforting words soothing her. She almost wondered if he was casting a spell on her to help her rest. Amazing how she was putting trust in a stranger, especially now that he knew her true identity.

"Hmmm...yes I suspect it will be," she mumbled then fell into a deep sleep.
