Looking out of the boarding house window, she spies Dakota out working on a fence that somebody had knocked askew. She can't help but smile as she watches him kick the post straight and fill the hole in with a mound of earth. He wasn't wearing a shirt and the sweat across his back shone like dull glass. His hair was pulled back by a black bandana that soaked up the perspiration, keeping it from his eyes.

She'd set aside folding the linens for the moment. He looked like he could use a cool drink. And, she had the perfect thing for quenching that thirst. She'd made a pitcher of lemonade that morning and it was setting in the chill chest, just as cool as can be.

She grabbed a glass and filled it with ice, placing two raspberries into the bottom of the glass first. Then she fills it up with the lemonade and heads on outside.

The heat absolutely took her breath away. How could he work in such a blast furnace?

He watches her approach and that breathtaking smile slowly eases the lines on his face. He leans against the newly sunk fence post and folds his arms across his chest.

Holding the glass out to him, she eats him alive with her eyes, she simply cannot get enough of that broad chest, tattooed on the left side with a red rose. "Thought you could use something cool."

That fence had been giving him all kinds of problems, and when he finally had the chance to kick it into place, he gave it everything he had..just for the satisfaction of kicking the daylights out of it.

After filling up that hole and getting the post in there nice and straight, he started to light up a cigarette as he remained there crouched on his knees. But when he saw Rosie approaching with that glass of lemonade, he put the cigarette back in its pack, and stuffed them back into his pocket as he stood up. Leaning there against that fencepost, he nodded to her words with an exhausted smile.

"I knew there was some reason I liked havin' you around, darlin'.."

Dakota, forever the king of cheesy one liners, chuckled as he took that glass and got himself a long, LONG drink. Looks like he was going to finish the whole glass with one take, and that's exactly what he did. He handed it back to her with a nod of thanks, and leaned in for a kiss. He hadn't had one in a while.

He was sweaty as could be, but she obviously could have cared less, as she gave him a little more than he was expecting, her arms reaching up to wrap around his neck and giving him one of those kisses that would satisfy any man. Well, he more than complied with it, his arms locking around her waist and lifting her off her feet as he returned the kiss, holding her up against him rather tightly. As the kiss was broken, he looked down at her with a bit of a grin.

"Sorry, baby...ain't tryin' to get you dirty or anything.."

She just smiled right back and shook her head.

"Doesn't bother me at all.."

And it honestly didn't...Dakota saw it in her eyes. She wasn't repulsed in the least by how sweaty he might've been, or how covered in dirt he was. Well, he set her back down gently, and after handing her the glass, then he went for his cigarette.

"I'm almost done here. I reckon I'll be 'bout ready to get on home if you are. I'm ready for a shower.."

She nodded in complete agreement.

"Yeah, me too..."

That devilish grin of hers left little doubt in Dakota's mind what she was implying. And he simply nodded in return....yeah, THAT was something they hadn't tried yet..

"We'll just have to see what we can do 'bout that, babygirl.."

Well, she gave him one more kiss before heading on back into the boarding house. She planned on making them a good supper tonight after getting cleaned up, and from there....well, who knows what she had planned..?

As for Dakota, he just watched his woman walk away, and shook his head in amazement...finishing off the last of his cigarette. He knew things wouldn't always be this great for them, romantically speaking...but he was sure gonna enjoy the ride, and he was gonna do his best to make sure that the two of them would be able to make it through absolutely anything.

She got a look from Sadie when she walked back into the boarding house, but she didn't care. She may have been covered in his sweat and her shirt streaked with dirt, but it was his sweat, his dirt. And that, dear reader, made all the difference in the world.

This man had opened her eyes to a whole new world. He was fascinating and charming and oh so gentle. She couldn't wait to be with him again, to explore the new adventures he offered, everytime they were together.

So, with the laundry finished up she calls out a farewell to Sadie and walks out of the boarding house. She makes her way to the marketplace to pick up some fresh fruits and veggies for dinner. Soon, she's entering the kitchen doorway to thier home. She had started to fill the pantry and chill chest with food and a brand new table sit in the middle of the room.

Shocked by the table, she places the food on it, wondering where it had come from. Well, wherever it was from, she certainly appreciated it!

In no time at all the kitchen smelled of the dinner she was preparing. A cool cucumber and peach soup for starters, then the main course of beef tips in a creamy gravy over homemade noodles. There were mashed potatoes and fresh corn on the cob to round out the meal. For dessert she'd simply sliced up a watermelon and put it in the refridgerator.

Her clothes and other belongings had been delivered just that morning, so as dinner was finishing up, she went into the bedroom and found a pretty little black dress to wear. It was shiney black silk sheath with spaghetti straps. It barely came to her knees. There were black thigh high hose that came next, then she slips her tiny feet into a pair of black pumps.

Next, she pulls just part of her hair up and ties it back with a ponytail holder. The rest cascades down her back in fiery red waves.

She checks her look in the mirror and is mighty pleased with what she sees... she just hopes that he's pleased too...

Dakota spent a couple more hours out there roasting in the sun before he decided it was time to call it a day. Rosie had already left a while earlier, so he headed on back home.

Along the walk home, his mind began drifting to one single thought...when's it all gonna come crashing down around him..?

Things had never stayed this good this long for Dakota Steele. He had a gorgeous wife waiting for him at home...the very home which had practically been given to him by some very dear friends. He just knew that somewhere along the way, he was gonna wake up and find that this was all just a sweet dream. There was no way that life could be this good for Dakota.

Unlocking his front door, he saw that Rosie wasn't home yet. Good..he was dying for a shower anyway. Yeah, she had mentioned something about wanting to join him, but she wasn't home yet and he was ready for one now. Those kind of games could come later. Heading into the bedroom to pick out something a little cleaner to wear than what he had on, he went for a simple pair of neatly pressed, loose fitting jeans, and a dark reddish, almost maroon, buttoned dress shirt. Jeans and a dress shirt...yep, that was Dakota. Hell, he was even gonna shine his boots up a little bit.

Carrying his clothes into the bathroom, he closed the door behind him and about forty five minutes later, reemerged from the bathroom, looking and feeling ten times better. He even had his shirt tucked in!! The top two buttons of the shirt were left undone, just enough to reveal the single black leather necklace which hung from around his neck, with a silver cross resting on his chest. His hair was still wet, but he had it slicked back into a long ponytail just as tightly as it would go. And yes, his boots were polished just as black as they had been in years. He even put on a little cologne...just for her.

The first thing that hit him as he opened the bathroom door was the unbelievable aroma of dinner filling the entire house. Her cooking talents alone were enough to keep any man satisfied for a lifetime...the fact that he loved her for more than just her cooking was a huge plus. As he followed the scent straight into the kitchen, he finally caught a glimpse of her in that little black dress, and his heart literally skipped a beat. He approached her without a word...only a smile....and as his arms wrapped around her waist, he pulled her up against him rather closely. As one single hair had slipped out of its holder and hung loosely in his face, he spoke softly::

"So what's the occasion tonight, babygirl..?"

Now one might think that after standing in a hot kitchen, whipping, mashing, stiring, slicing and dicing that our favorite little red head would prefer to be pulled into a hug in any other room of the house. But then one would be wrong. You see, Rosie's world revolved around the kitchen.

Growing up, that was the meeting place for everything. Her family may be far from perfect, but whether it was time for a meal or time for some girl talk between the sisters, the kitchen was the place they went. The old oak table lent to the warm and comforting atmosphere. Her mother would always have something baking or roasting in a crock pot, and the smell was always delicious.

So, for Dakota to scoop her up into a hug, in the kitchen, seemed the most natural thing in the world to her. And as she did, she caught the scent of cologne and closes her eyes, whispering, "mmm babe, you smell soo good."

Hugs, just like a good book, end far before you wish them to and this one was no exception. A quick brush of the lips against his, and she pulls away to finish setting the table, food already on the bowls and plates. She lights two long tapers on the table, then turns out the light in the kitchen for that perfect candle lit dinner.

"Occasion, m'love? None special, really. I just wanted to show you how much I love you, without having to say it." With that, she places two slender stemmed wine glasses on the table and a bottle of sparkling grape and mango juice is opened and glasses are filled. "Dinner is served."

He loved watching her do her thing in the kitchen. It amused and surprised him with the candlelight and wine. Her outfit amazed him. Nobody had ever taken the time to show him how much they cared like Rosie did. He would hold out her chair for her, always the perfect gentleman for his babygirl. And as she sat, he leans down and kisses her neck, then playfully nuzzles her jawline before standing back up to take his seat across from her.

The candlelight reflecting in his eyes took her breath away. She lifted her glass of wine and proposed this toast.

"My beloved Dakota, may God forever bless us with the courage, strength and everlasting love to keep us together, no matter what storms may pass through our lives."

Taking a sip of her wine, she smiles at him from across the table.

"Dig in."
