She heard the sound of the piano before she knew who would be sitting on the bench. Summer Girl wasn't so drenched in glory as she rounded the corner, leaning a hip as she watched Sidonie basking in her secret. Strange how her Solitaire sister seemed to be speaking to her very heart as her voice joined the piano notes.

I know there's something in the wake of your smile
I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yeah
you've built a love but that love falls apart
your little piece of heaven turns too dark

Eyes closed, head thrown back, Sidonie seemed lost in the music. Singing out her soul to reach the very heart of her sister. Jacinta remembered Mor's words. The path began with the heart did it not? A dark, ragged, road that was.

listen to your heart
when he's calling for you
listen to your heart
there's nothing else you can do
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye

sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile
the precious moments are all lost in the tide, yeah
they're swept away and nothing is what is seems
the feeling of belonging to your dreams

Jacinta found her fingers touching the pale pink paper rose in her hair, curling fingers over that circle of roses. Sweet perfume.

No one to see the tears that would fall. Save for Spade. A bittersweet smile was sent her sister's way as the Ace sang through the chorus. Fingers working ivory and ebony with a gentle coaxing. Cloud Nine was not blissful heaven but a safe haven for a broken heart breaking all over again.

Turquoise blinked in surprise, hiding a smile when suddenly the soft ember of Jacinta took over as the song continued.

and there are voices
that want to be heard
so much to mention
but you can't find the words
the scent of magic
the beauty that's been
when love was wilder than the wind

listen to your heart
when he's calling for you
listen to your heart
there's nothing else you can do
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye

The sweet ember of Jacinta's voice broke then, falling into silence as Sidonie lifted a hand and patted the piano bench, making room for her sister with a soft smile of understanding. When the firebrand of her sister joined her, Sidonie's fingers danced over keys left slick with her sister's shining tears.

Finishing the song in a gentle coaxing as she pressed her lips to the fox red of hair.

I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye

Who knew if Spade wouuld sing for her sister of Shane, perhaps of the other Fae found but still she would sing if only to help her sister along that new found road.

Rough, rugged road but the end of it was worth everything.

She slept that night with a quiet, uncertain calm. It was strange after all those years and the bitter competitions and all that she had done to Sidonie, that Spade would take her in without a word and let her stay.

Jacinta slept like a vulnerable child, cheeks still damp with fresh tears that had come as melancholy apparitions in her dreams. Knees drawn up close to her chest and the fire red of hair covering her face.

So maybe it was a fool's notion for Jacinta to play house. To even make that feeble attempt.

She missed it.

Missed the laughter, the warmth, the simple joys of companionship of being with someone that loved you as much as you loved them.

The Summer girl found herself missing the small things. Like sitting on the floor of Shane's house and playing with Gauge.

Exploring New Zealand like wild children.

The pieces had been picked up and been put back together. Still friends but those times with him still did not see the same.

Jacinta just wanted things to feel half way normal. Half way content and soothed for a change.

Rather then wild and reckless.

Oh she might lose herself in the process, but she didn't want to lose them. Never ever.

If only she could find the words.

The nights were changing, stretching out longer. Deep and dark and lovely.

Something about the approach of autumn made Jacinta a bit more serene. A bit more quiet and reflective.

She knew she couldn't stay tucked away in Sidonie's loft forever. After all Avery and Spade needed their space and their personal time. Far be it for her to destroy that.

Jacinta didn't miss the irony of the situation. How long before it was Jacinta had been the shining one and Sidonie the one left in the shadows.

Now the tables had turned.

On the floor of the room she had rented she sat, fingers rolling the blood red die in her hands. Tossing them to skip and roll across the floor.

Odd numbers had one meaning for her. Even had another.

"Best ou' o'seven."

A whisper to herself, blue eyes fixed intently on each and every roll.

This was not a gamble but leaving fate to the fall of the dice.

She just couldn't go on living like this. Awkward and not knowing of what would be.

Hand reached back, palmed that braid hidden in the wild tumble of red, claiming that trinket in a curl of fingertips.

Closing her eyes she sighed softly. She had to know if this all could be changed. Fixed and altered to make sense.

Jacinta was so very tired of being wild and reckless and as unpredictable as the worst storm. Deep down in her heart, she knew she wanted to settle down... find a place to call home, a good man, start a family.

It was not as easy as it would seem. The dice were given their final roll, a bittersweet smile as she looked down, counted dots.

Seemed Fate had a rocky path for Jacinta to trail after. Smirking she dusted off her pants and stood. Headed out into the night to follow the guidance of the dice.

It was time to make some major changes.

A busy night at the docks. She had a feeling the dock workers could sense it like her. The end of summer, the change to fall. Even as a Summer Girl, Jacinta found herself more soothed in the fall. Calmer.

The seedy bit of watering holes on the docks were near expected to be a den of brawls. Even as there were shouts of the common 'take it outside' some boys wouldn't listen.

"Och, would ye gae on now."

A shove of one bloke's arm, she knew him well enough as a common customer. Usually he treated Jacinta well enough and tipped her good to but tonight the man was wild eyed and deep in his cups. It was a trigger reaction, taking that shove for something more he did not nothing wrong save for reaction.

His fist met her face before she even had a time to react and ten minutes later she woke up on the floor with a splitting headache and one helluva shiner. Groaning for one time in her life, Jacinta was grateful to be more then just some frail human. She near blessed her Sidhe blood rather then cursing it.

Fortune favored her that evening. She changed from her normal jeans and hoodies, given to dress up a bit to perhaps make herself feel better. Sunset colors. Red skirt and the pale gold peasant's blouse with its red lattice trim.

A delicate irony it would be to find the Fox in such bohemian graces. Especially when there at the bar would be Shane. Handsome as ever.

For once it seemed so much easier to share company with him. Natural and calm, safe and secure. The unaware lean of hips toward each other in the softest meeting, sharing a drink and conversation.

She missed the Irish bloke from Ireland that had given her a good luck token that she still wore. Jacinta saw through his false smiles while he hid himself from the world. She knew him well enough to know that he was playing up the crowd.

It broke her heart to see him like that.

Jacinta missed the genuine smiles, the near boyish quality charm of his grin as it had been in New Zealand, or talking in the marketplace with her in Ireland.

A change of seasons in turn perhaps could bring a change in spirit and turn events to the better.

That spark of hope that suddenly burst to flames in her heart like a phoenix rising had left her leaving him with tears in her eyes that held no gleam of melancholy and her arms thrown about his neck, head buried against his arm.

She left that night with the realization that he had held her too. Whispered words of worry.

Through his own concerns for her, maybe he would see... would come to understand that it was exactly how she felt for him.

That he would know how she felt. One could only hope that this new sensation and will in her spirit was for something more then nothing.

Sunbright light filtered through her window and she groaned inwardly, hissing like a vampire seeking shadows to save from being burned.

Her head felt on fire. A sweet glow of that whiskey burn still lingered in her belly. The entire evening spent with Shane, and Brandon, and Chase.

Haunting unknown bars with a coy delight of drinking games. Never have I ever indeed.

A bit of Fox's flirtation had even reared its head and the night had come and gone without her and Brandon at each other's throats or her rushing out of the room in frustration.

Instead the Sea Fox was back in full force. Quick retorts and swift playful jabs towards Shane's best friend and for once Jacinta felt truly comfortable.

At ease.

She mulled over the evening events to make sure nothing unusual had gone on. Nothing that she'd have to be embarrassed over or apologize for.

A sigh of relief. A calm smile spreading on her lips as she rolled on her back and stared up at the ceiling.

There was nothing to apologize for, nothing to feel embarrassed over. Sure that had been a moment that auburn spades of hair had been pushed from Shane's brow. Innocent as his taking of the paper flower from behind her ear.

They had planned on spending their lunch together on Wednesday so she could bring a gift for his hound.

A soft sigh, smiling to herself with a crinkle of eyes at that renewed friendship rekindled.

She truly had begun to feel like herself once more. Sighing she reclined again before reluctantly easing out of bed.

Fox born grin and more of a spark to her spirit and step.

She couldn't wait until Wednesday.
