After a gargle of absinthe and a shot of blood she was on her way.

The trek was without discipline, nor proper equipment, and no designated place to be or even to see, she tread with a hunch, and that was all. She'd needed a bit of confidence to get this far with her state of late, hiding in her motel playing dress ups and taking anti-clockwise intervals to Waterdeep. Between her distress and her delusion she was also impeccably tidy and within, excited. With that in mind, she dressed well for the occassion. Black shoulder-length gloves of satin lining, a white strapless-gown which fluttered at her knees, over which was a simple black jacket with large, resplendent buttons and on her feet, her often worn black flats.

Upon reaching the upmost cliff after an easy climb thanks to her blessings, and settling her gaze from its constant meander about the scenary, she let out a sigh of private joy. The sight that greeted her was elegance and dark composed as one. Bundling her hands together beneath her chin she stared with a rabid gaze at the domain of the presence that beckoned her from undergrowth and lightbulb-flickered motel room and to his altitude. Her nostrils flared and she gnawed at her inside lip, intensity a penumbra deluxe upon her face.

You may be right, I may be crazy
But it just might be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light, don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right.
Billy Joel

When the meal was finished and the beautiful but lifeless remains were removed, Count Longden was feeling refreshed and strengthened and ready for anything.

Almost anything.

He had moved to the balcony outside his study to enjoy the night air and . . .

a scent . . .

a feeling . . .

and finally, a realization.

He, or at least his domicile, was being observed.

Would this night of unanticipated visitations of strange and unusual women never end? He would see what business or other interest brought her so close to the place where so few were permitted to leave.

Count Longden wrapped himself in darkness and moments later the visitor would hear the sound of booted feet approaching from behind her.

?I have always loved the way the light of the moon reflects off the leaded glass of my castle,? he said with soft admiration as he stepped beside her. ?Don?t you??

Our clown turns to the Count with an inquisitve expression. Violet eyes large to take in everything.

"I am a fan of gothic architecture I suppose. Though, in pardon, comes with the territory, wouldn't you say?"

Her smile appeared for a moment, beacon bright. She stepped towards him and his velvet-sweet shadows and held out a hand.

"It is a pleasure, Lord"

A curtsy, with an emphasis on curt, and she released his hand.

"I'm Soleil. Or if you please, "lost woodland creature", can't you see it, up in lights?" A flutter of her eyelashes, out of her staid mood and into one of Lady. A look over her shoulder towards his keep and then back.

"Shall we?"

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet?
Sitting here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it
And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin' you to defy it
Bob Dylan - "Visions of Johanna"

Talomar ignored all her rhetorical questions, and his eyes never followed Soleil?s to the castle. No need. He knew it intimately.

?Shall we . . . what, pray tell??

He slowly moved around her, a finger trailing upon her black jacket. ?Shall we dance in the light of the moon, Soleil?

He continued to circle the woman. ?Shall we search for other lost woodland creatures??

He made a complete circle and finally removed his finger as his dark eyes took her in. He sensed a Malkavian, and the last thing he needed in his castle was another insane vampire.

?As far as my castle is concerned, it?s not open for business. However, I?m sure you did not come out here this night to appraise my little home. What is it you really want, Soleil??

The Malk inched away at his touch to stand within the shadows of a bending bough, fingers reaching above her head to play with the leaves. "I would like to get to know you. Befriend my Kindred, it's a goal. Me, I stay awhile. No sex"

A faint smile and she dropped her hand back to her side, in her hand a clutch of leaves. She rubbed them between her fingers so that crackled they fell to her feet.

"Possible?"

Her eyes returned to the manor.

"Failing that, a dance will do..."

She admitted wistfully, brows arched as she stared discerningly at the sprawling hulk of a house against the starry-lit horizon.

Talomar Longden folded his arms across his chest and looked down on the Malk. ?No sex? And yet you claim to be my Kindred?? A brow raised in mock utter amazement. ?I?m shocked. I didn?t realize that I actually had Kindred who would stipulate ?no sex?.?

He moved close to her and then reached up to that same tree bough with his right hand and placed his left upon his hip. ?Let?s see if I?ve got this straight. I invite you into my castle as my guest. Give you room and board. Spend my valuable time with you so we get to know one another. And then, after a while, you leave. Oh yes, I forgot . . . and no sex.?

Talomar tapped the forefinger of his left hand to his lips as if thinking. ?I?m sorry, Soleil; I keep thinking that somewhere in this marvelous plan there must be something in it for me, but I can?t quite put a finger on it.? He dropped his right hand from the bough and cupped one hand over the other, belt-high, his feet slightly spread. The darkness of the night assisted by the shadow of the tree could not hide from his gaze the simple fact that she would make a very good-looking dessert.

?So, tell me, my dear Kindred, other then the enjoyment of your company ? which I am in no way belittling ? what do I hope to gain from this unexpected invitation??

Count Longden didn't wait for an answer for he had considerable doubt that there was an answer. It had been a fun dance in the night, but it was obviously over; and so he bid her adieu and he disappeared from sight, returning to the comfort and security of his castle.
