Lucky Clover

Date: 2011-11-07 19:54 EST
People vanish all the time, one less familiar face in the crowd, one more abandoned apartment to be filled. One day there furniture is there, the next? it?s not. A bit of paper slipped beneath a realtor?s door with a key and a note that includes a jotted address and the words ?Space Available.?

No one thinks much of it. People come, people go. It would be just as pointless to mourn the loss of grains of sand from the beach. Somehow the community has become disconnected, unconcerned. Individuals write it off as a matter of choice or unlucky fate, that the same curious twist of luck that landed someone here one day happened to resolve and send them away.

The problem that follows is that sometimes when people go missing? no one thinks to find out where they?ve gone...

Rayvinn

Rayvinn had been back in RhyDin for two days; having lain low for a majority of that to recover from the ordeal of the past three months. Tequila and twelve hours a day in bed can do wonders for recovery and so Raye decided it was time to reconnect with a small number of people.

Did she regret leaving RhyDin without telling Clover goodbye? Regret was an emotion that Rayvinn rarely felt, mostly because she simply didn't understand the point in it. So, the more accurate question became...did she miss her friend and want to rekindle that friendship? The answer to that is what had her standing in front of door 2C of the Zen Apartment Complex, rapping impatiently with knuckles that were even now still scraped and bruised.

"Cloooover. I have a bottle of Gran Patron that is begging to be shared." A few more knocks to no avail had Raye frowning, an expression upon battered features that was a fearsome thing to behold. Of course, she realized Clover had a nightlife--and a very active one, as she remembered. It couldn't hurt to just have a couple of drinks and wait for her, could it?

Rummaging through her bag, she found the small kit of lock picking tools and knelt down in front of the door and got to work. Why did she have a set of lock picking tools? One never knew when something of the sort could come in handy...like now. Since Raye wasn't exactly dealing with a full deck things like breaking and entering being unlawful or usually unwanted didn't seem to register. She wanted to surprise Clover and the best way to do that was to be sitting on the woman's couch when she came home. It was a perfectly logical idea and didn't seem at all invasive or creepy to her.

There was a soft click as the lock turned and she retrieved her trusty tools, picked up the bottle of pricey silver tequila and moved inside. The fact that there were no lights wasn't a problem as Raye's night vision brought everything into perspective within only a short moment. What she saw caused her to blink a few times. The apartment thus far, was completely empty. Not a stitch of furniture or a single personal item to be found.

She moved through each room with the silent, professional precision of a detective or a really good hitman minus a weapon in her hand--aside from the hand itself or the glass bottle in the other; every room was bare.

People disappeared all of the time. Raye had done so without any hesitation. Sometimes, however, someone crazy enough came along to think up outrageous conspiracy theories as to why a person isn't in their home. The disappearance, in their head, wasn't a simple move from an apartment but a nefarious scheme involving the harvesting of organs or the stealing of gorgeous electric read hair or some other crazy off the wall plot.

Raye was just that crazy someone, not content with the belief that Clover had simply moved. Was there any evidence to prove her belief? Evidence had never been much of an inspiration or guiding factor in Rayvinn's logic and after what she had endured during the past several months, it wasn't bound to factor into anything she dreamed up now.

Confusion and then displeasure furrowed her brow as she left the premises and made her way back to the Red Dragon to try to inquire into her friend's whereabouts.
