Carley

In her recent travels around the market, the little elf found something she just couldn't resist. It was simple, yes, but Carley regarded it as a very awesome communicative device. It was almost like magic, really! What had the merchant called it...? Ah, yes.

A dry erase board.

There was a hallway in the Luinista that one had to pass everyday no matter where they were going. It was a junction point for all the important places - the cargo hold, the cabins, the engine room, and the elusive kitchen, in which Carley was one of few who knew how to use it properly. This was the hallway where she hung up her pink, construction paper banner that read "Long Live the GangSTAR!" she had received from Ehz. It was beneath that banner she decided to hang up her dry erase board.

Carley figured it would be a good way for her and the various crew members of the Luinista to communicate with one another. Some days were rather busy, so delivering a message was annoying sometimes. Not to mention she figured this would be fun.

It was with some reluctance that she parted with one of her scented markers, a red strawberry scented marker, to be used on the dry erase board. Before leaving it there, however, she scribbled up a few remarks.

This is for exchanging messages. Anyone can use it. If I catch anyone forging messages on anyone's behalf, I'm throwing ya off the airship myself.

I got a special job in mind for all of you real soon, so start looking for some pink shirts.

-Carley Q.

Hanging the marker up with the board, Carley smiled and nodded her satisfaction before going on her merry way. There was business and plotting to be done.

Cy was wandering below deck to search for a bag of jerky he had stashed in his cabin. He paused, however, upon spotting a few unfamiliar things. Cy chuckled a little at the "Long Live the GangSTAR!" banner that was hanging up. He didn't know a whole lot about the gossip paper, but Carley had explained some of it to him.

The dry erase board, however, made him shift his attention pretty quickly. Especially since there were words on it. Cy read the message and scoffed. "No way in hell I'm wearing a pink shirt." He shook his head and picked up the red strawberry scented marker that Carley had left there.

Pink isn't my style. Sorry, boss. I heard it's one of Bothe's favorites, though. Maybe he'll wear two.

- Cy

That written, Cy capped the marker and returned it to its place. Hands in pockets, he continued on toward his cabin. The jerky was still calling to him.

Carley lightly hummed to herself as she wandered down the hallway. She paused, however, upon noticing that there had been quite a bit of activity on the dry erase board she hung up. Grinning, she turned to peer up at it. Her grin dimmed at seeing Cy's response, although she wasn't entirely surprised.

How about I dress you up in various shades of purple and blue, punk ***? -Bothe

Well, that wasn't very nice. Carley frowned at Bothe's response to Cy before she continued reading.

I already found my shirt, Carley. :D -Grayson

If Cy isn't wearing pink, I'm not either. -Crao

I bet meat head can take on the elf. 10 silvers on Bothe, what do you guys say? -Farin

10 on Cy, here. -Crao

Hell, I'll bet 20 on Bothe. Also, I ain't wearin' no pink either. -Nort

I don't think you guys should be betting on something like Cy and Bothe fighting. It's not nice. -Grayson

Shut up, Grayson. -Bothe

As she continued to read, Carley's brows lifted every so slowly. Finally, she released a grumble and shook her head. Maybe the board was a bad idea? She snatched the marker off the wall and started scribbling furiously.

First off, there isn't gonna be any fight between CyCy and Bothe, else I'll kick both their ***es. Secondly, I'm not forcing anyone into the shirts if you guys are gonna be such crybabies about it. Whoever does this favor for me can consider it overtime, however, so I'll be paying handsomely for it. Thirdly, thank ya for yer cooperativeness Grayson. And lastly? Try not to start a mutiny, okay CyCy? -Carley Q.

Marker recapped and hung up, Carley snorted one final time at the board before stomping off. Men.

Cy had heard of Bothe's apology to Carley. It'd been in the form of fifty push-ups. He'd thought it was a pretty dumb way to apologize to someone, but he didn't complain about it. Much. Since his talk with Carley, Cy had approached Bothe to help him move the focal box he'd created. Even with the spell Cy knew that increased strength, it would have taken him quite a while to get the focal box to the Luinista without any sort of aid.

Bothe had agreed to help Cy. They talked for a while as the task was being completed. Bothe realized Cy had just been joking around, and Cy gave his word that he'd be more careful with jesting in the future. Bothe had told Cy something secretive. The elf was a little surprised by the news at first, but it made more sense the more he thought about it.

After the focal box had been put into place, Bothe headed back to work. Cy, however, took the time to wander up to the dry erase board. He erased everything but Carley's messages with his sleeve. Then, he picked up the marker, uncapped it, and wrote. The words were fairly large. They'd be hard to miss when someone passed by the board.

Hey guys. Guess what? Grayson's got the hots for Carley. Bothe confirms. -Cy

It wasn't long before other messages started appearing underneath Cy's.

What?! Wow. Trying to get a raise, Grayson? -Crao

He probably got one already. Ain't talkin' 'bout money neither. -Nort

Later during the day, Cy paused by the dry erase board once again. He laughed outright at Crao and Nort's responses and shook his head. Maybe Grayson hadn't seen the message yet. Or perhaps he was too embarrassed to write anything in response. Satisfied, Cy headed below deck and to his cabin.

Carley had no words as she stared at the dry erase board.

The little elf believed that Cy had gone entirely too far with what he wrote - Nort had only made it worse too! She had wondered why Grayson exhibited such peculiar behavior earlier in the day. He had seemed to be avoiding her. He refused to make any sort of eye contact. His face had been so oddly red. A peanut allergy, he had said... yeah right!

Carley's anger was directed at Cy, however. And Bothe. Bothe and his big mouth. She wouldn't have thought much of it if she thought it was simply falsehood, but given the way Grayson was acting even before Cy wrote his secret on the board, the little elf was certain it was true. She couldn't help but feel bad for Grayson, really. He was the youngest worker aboard the Luinista, barely an adult. All the others made fun of him, as men were wont to do. It was all in good fun, of course, and she knew no one had serious feelings of vindictiveness towards one another, but Grayson was a target too often, in her opinion. She couldn't really do much about that, however, since it would only make things worse for him.

And now this. Grayson was likely very embarrassed by what Cy wrote. It made Carley frown. How very mean of Cy. She wanted to get him back for this. But before that, she wanted to do something to cheer up poor Grayson. She paced in front of the board, thinking to herself.

Grayson. Well. He was cute, truth be told. He had always been kind to her. The bandanna he always seemed to wear was sort of endearing. His grey eyes were very pretty too...

It hit her. Carley knew just what to do to shut everyone up. Wearing a rather smug smile, she erased the board in its entirety and started to write dab smack in the middle of it.

Grayson, I think yer real cute and much sweeter than the louts around here. How about we go out this Friday right after work? I know a great diner in the market we could go to. -Carley

It was a win win situation for them both, no? Hanging the marker back up, Carley hummed as she wandered down the hallway towards her room.

It wasn't until later in the day that Cy saw Carley's offer to Grayson on the dry erase board. Right before it was time to leave for the day, in fact. Despite it being the first time he'd seen the message, he already knew about it. Other crew members had been talking about Grayson having a date with the boss.

Standing in front of the dry erase board, Cy reread Carley's message again. "Clever." He knew Grayson had been embarrassed by his message, but really he'd only been teasing the young man. Even so, Cy thought it was important to leave something else for Grayson to see. He picked up the marker nearby, uncapped it, and circled Carley's words. He drew a small arrow downward and began to write where the arrow pointed.

Healthy hands keep to themselves. -Cy

Did he really expect Grayson to get touchy with Carley? Not really. Even if he did, Cy was confident Carley would be able to handle the situation. It still didn't change the fact that he felt something needed to be written. He suspected that at least part of the reason Carley asked Grayson on the date was because he had been picking on Grayson. Letting Carley have a complete victory was just not something Cy was going to allow.

With a smirk, Cy lifted the marker again. Beneath his message, he drew a crude picture. It was a picture of hands wrapped in bandages. It likely wouldn't be hard to make out, as Cy was actually decent at drawing things.

Deciding that would do, he capped the marker and put it back in its place. Placing his hands in his pockets, Cy turned around and headed back to the deck.
