(This is a split off of the Aftermath thread.)

Mihaela couldn't bring herself to leave his side for too long. She felt responsible for his condition. So she stayed at his side, soothing him when the nightmares were troubling him, making sure he was comfortable in his bed. She brought any work she had up to his room so she could sit with him.

It hurt to see him, once so strong, injured and needing to rest like this. She was strong and could hold thing together, but it had been a comfort to know he was around. The others did not like what they saw to be his *attitude* but she knew better.

There was a small number of people she trusted at her back. Viktor had been her partner for the longest and even with all the changes they had both gone through, they still sync'd up as if it was the old days.

Akiko has saved her life and had been her teacher in those first days. She was also the one female she could get close to on many levels.

Merrick she was learning to trust and cherish. The Baron had found a place in her life and heart and there was nothing that could dislodge him.

Yet of all of them, she felt the safest with him at her back. It looked strange given he had been Gregory's enforcer and threat. The only reason Gregory was able to hold the pard as long as he did was because of him. He had been his shield and his pawn. Gregory had him leashed as effectively as he held the other's to him. Gregory's failing had been in thinking he could leash her...

She shook her head and set her work aside. He was sleeping fitfully and she gave into the longing. She stripped from her clothing and curled up against him beneath the blankets. There was nothing sexual in the move, only the need to hold him and give him comfort.

She purred softly as she drew him into her arms. She settled into a light doze murmuring his name...

"(vsw) Damon."

(The following is a colaboration between myself and the Player of Damon Kard.)

Every muscle Damon had ached. He groaned as he shifted, eyes opening. He slowly rolled to the side, pushing up onto one arm while his other hand scrubbed through his hair as he woke up. His stomach ached with hunger. He tipped his head, listening to the sounds of the house. The events of the last week were still very strong. Images haunted him even awake. He tried to shove them out of his mind, concentrating instead on listening. Mihaela poked her head into the room when she heard the groan. She had risen not long before and had gotten some comfortable clothes on.

He blinked at her a couple of times then lowered his eyes, turning his head away from her. "Hey." His voice was hoarser than normal.

She stood in the doorway and leaned one shoulder against the frame. Her head was tilted as she regarded him. "Hey yourself."

"What time is it?"

"About 9am on Saturday." She spoke softly, "You've been out a couple of days."

His face took on a pained expression as he tossed back the covers and struggled to sit up. "I feel like I got hit by a truck."

She moved over to the bed side, ready to give him a hand. "That works. Some hunters used you for a punching bag."

He took her hand and used her to leverage himself to his feet. He stood for a moment, close enough to be lost in her scent. He took a couple of breaths then exhaled a grunt. "I remember that."

She helped him up, and stood near him, "Got worried about you."

He almost touched her cheek but his hand shifted away as he took a step toward the bathroom. He remembered what occurred prior to the run and he didn't think she'd appreciate a caress. "Sorry."

She had a feeling she knew what he was apologizing for. "It happens, I got in the way of your claws."

His steps paused, a glance going over his shoulder to her. He nodded then murmured, "it was an accident."

"I know, Damon. I let my anger get the best of me and you got hurt because of it." She watched him move.

A frown creased his freckled forehead. "Your anger?"

"I got angry with you even though you did not hit me intentionally... I drove you to run." She took a deep breath, "I failed you."

"No." He shook his head. "It's not you, Mihaela. I uh .. I just don't think I belong here." He gave a faint smile then continued toward the bathroom. "I cause more trouble than I fix."

"If you didn't belong, the others would have not helped you."

It was quiet for a moment before he came back out of the bathroom. He leaned against the door frame. He wasn't trying to be rude when he said, "I think they were more worried about you than me."

"You did not see their faces when they saw what had happened to you. I did... Lucas came to help you, not because I ordered him. I gave him the opportunity to stay behind and he did not."

"Lucas did?"

"Yes, he did."

"He shouldn't have. He's weak. He could have gotten hurt." The words came out before he thought about them fully. Maybe that was part of his problem.

"He's stronger than you give him credit for Damon. Even after insulting his mate, he still came to your aid." She waited to see his reaction to the word mate.

The reaction was a double flicked glanced and a minor frown that was fleeting. He licked his lips and looked away. Mate, huh? The meek leading the meeker. He shook his head, muttering. "He needs training then."

She nodded, "He does. Tycet was the one that tracked you. Viktor was my backup. As angry as they are with you, they still came to your aid Damon. You are pard... and that means more to them than bruised egos or pride."

"Tycet can track anything, can't he?" He rubbed the back of his neck then moved back toward the bed. Damon sat down on the edge of the bed, hands on either side of his legs and his head bowed. Things were all jumbled in his head.

She moved to sit beside him, "For better or for worse, we are a family now. We may get on each other's nerves, but we do not turn our backs on anyone." She tentatively reached out to run a comforting hand along his hair.

His tone might have sounded defensive, "I wouldn't turn my back on anyone." He closed his eyes. He didn't mean for things to get tense, it just happened. Other people could joke and poke at each other making fun but if he did it, he was a bully. Everyone got mad. His fingers dug into the bed some.

"I know, Damon. They don't understand you." She wanted to pull him close.

"Causes more trouble than anything else. You need .. you deserve quiet and peace."

"And if I told you it brings me comfort to know you are here?" She regarded him and gently moved his hair from his face. "Knowing you are nearby and protecting us?"

In spite of himself he felt himself leaning into her touch. "Maybe .. maybe just outside the house. I mean," he exhaled a sigh then drew in a deep breath, reveling in the scent of her. "Just be around but not in everyone's everyday life?" He didn't want to go but he didn't want to stress her out .

"You would exile yourself." She truly did not like that idea. "Damon, why?"

"It'd help you." He tipped his head a little, eyes sliding to her. "Isn?t that what I'm here for?"

"Would that really help anything? You would be alone for the most part."

He exhaled a sigh, shoulders sagging. "I don't know." He swung his eyes away from her. "I'm not exactly a part of the cozy group right now, am I?"

"Ahhh yes, a group that is still hurting to it's core and healing." She brushed at his hair lightly. "We wouldn't be a family if we didn't have our struggles."

His voice cracked twice as he spoke, "Just tell me what you want, Mihaela."

"I don't want you to leave, Damon. Or to exile yourself. There is no need for it."

He nodded, eyes focused on the floor. He had to admit to a certain amount of relief. He didn't want to go.

"As much as the others don't want to admit it, we need you. And you need us."

It took two tries before his eyes finally lifted to find her. "If you're sure." She had Viktor, she had Merrick. He didn't really think she still needed him anymore.

She cupped his cheek gently and met his gaze. "I am sure."

His eyes closed as he shifted his cheek into her hand, nuzzling a little.

She leaned in to nuzzle with him. "(vq) I don't want to lose you Damon."

His body shifted toward hers, one hand sliding around her. It was a simple shift and his head was on her shoulder, his face buried in her neck. It was good to be back and to know he wasn't going to be shown the door for anything. A small part of him questioned her sanity but he promised himself that he would do his best to get along better. Although he wasn't the whole part of the problem and he knew it. His voice cracked again, "Thank you, Miha."

She drew him close to her. Bad attitude and all, she cared. "(vq) Told you before, I've got your back."

His arm tightened around her, face nuzzling deeper into her neck. His stubble was scratchy after not shaving a while but she didn't seem to complain. He drank in her scent and just held her, knowing this was the safe place at the moment. She held him close to her, nuzzling him back. She inhaled his scent, glad he was alright. He slowly straightened, his hand lifting to touch her cheek in that caress he'd wanted to give her before. His eyes drifted over her features. He kissed her on the cheek, afraid anything else would get him hurt either by her or her beau. She turned and kissed him softly. Not caring about what anyone thought. Tension drained out of him at the touch of her lips. He murmured her name through the gentle contact. She murmured his name softly in answer against his lips.

His arm tightened around her, holding onto her or just clinging .. hard to say. She held him close and nuzzled tenderly. The gentle touches were such a blessing after the abuse of the previous week. He didn't want it to end. He chuffed a sound of longing, his lips raining small tender kisses along her jawline. Reaching that point that was nearest to her ear, he withdrew with effort. No need to get into trouble his first day conscious after that .. no. He drew in a deep breath then swallowed hard to try to catch his breath. She purred softly at his touches and looked at him with longing when he drew back.

Oh god that look. It was painful to see. His fingers gently stroked her cheek.

She regarded him a bit confused, "(vq) What is troubling you, Damon?"

"Sometimes your eyes .. they're so arousing." He almost chuckled but it was more of just a faint flicker of his lips.

She nuzzled in close to him, "(vq) You hold back, why?"

"I don't .. " He bit his lip to still the next words that came to mind. Did it matter if he had enemies? Would giving in to the temptation of worshiping her in his arms cause a new one in the form of a rather powerful canine type? He forced a smile. "I don't want to hurt you."

She searched his face with a gentle caress. She was confused a bit.

He cleared his throat, fingers drifting again over her cheek. "Where's your Merrick?"

"(vq) Busy as ever..." The understanding lit her face. "(vq) As ever stolen moments between us."

His fingers slid quickly from her cheek to circle around behind her neck so he could draw her into him. He gave in to the urge to kiss her. The moment was a fierce need, a thank you and so much more. She moved in returning his kiss. He needed him just as fiercely.

He ignored the aches as he drew her into him, his other arm tightening around her. His stomach ached from hunger but his body was on fire with another hunger that only she could satisfy. He'd tried to be good, to not invade another man's space but damnit, he couldn't keep it up indefinitely. A low growl vibrated at the back of his throat as he twisted them, lying them back onto the bed with her somewhat under him.

She drew him close to her, wanting him. She let him take control purring with the need within her. The beast within was still very strong after his ordeal. He gave in without further thought, needing to touch her and kiss her and devour her. She gave in as well, the need raging within her. She gave herself to him not caring of anything but him.

If he felt bad about it, it would come much, much later. He focused on her body, touching her in those intimate places he knew she liked. He took his time with making her feel good, licking and nibbling to help her along the path to pleasure. She pressed and arched with the pleasure he was causing, somewhere along the way her clothing was shed... or was that shred.

He didn't have a lot of strength or stamina but he had enough to properly thank her and express a deep gratitude for her just being her. She opened herself to him. She wanted to take away his pain. She cared deeply.

He was the big tough guy. He wasn't supposed to feel pain, was he? He lavished attention on her, giving her the delight and pleasure she deserved - enjoying how her body moved in response to his touches. Finally, though, he had no strength to continue. He lay next to her panting, his red hair sticky to his forehead - his own body sweaty from their stolen moments. She cradled him close to her as he rested. She had a soft little smile on her lips as she curled up next to him gathering her strength.

His dreams were uninterrupted by nightmares of cold bars and pain. He slept fitfully with her in his arms. She lay awake as she held him. She hated knowing he had been caged and abused like an animal. She wanted to take that away from him. His body would heal but the mental scars might take a while. He had hurts that he had not shared with anyone - hurts that were from years gone by, things he carried with him but the tough guy wasn't allowed to show pain or mourn. He slept, his breathing soft and even.

She carefully drew herself from his arms. She knew he would need food so she would see that is was ready for him when he awakened. She grabbed what remained of her clothing and Watched him rest. He stirred when she moved out of his embrace but he did not have the strength to wake. His arm lay limp on the bed, his face much younger in sleep than when he was awake. She leaned down and placed a light kiss on his temple and moved towards her room. Once dressed she headed for the kitchen to find him some food.

He didn't sleep too long. His hunger drove him from sleep, his stomach grumbling louder than before. He jerked when he realized Mihaela was no longer there, his eyes tracking to the door with a snap. She was bringing up the tray and gave a knock at his door. She was giving him a bit of a warning that she was coming in.

He swallowed hard, the sound of her coming back easing his nerves. "Yeah?" He scrubbed his hand over his face. He should probably shave but the scent of food kept him rooted in bed.

She pushed the door open and brought in a tray of food for him. "(vq) Figured you might need this."

He smiled, unwilling to admit that his knees were weak. "Thank you, Mihaela. You didn't have to do that."

She half shrugged and set the tray down, "Wanted to. You need your rest and this gives you a chance to regain your strength in peace.

He touched her arm, fingers drifting lightly over her skin. "Thank you." He tried to be slow and deliberate when he took a piece of cheese and tossed it into his mouth. "Everything okay out there?"

She nodded to him, "Yeah." She smiled as he started eating.

He was happy to eat and was rather single minded about scarfing the food down. He did offer her some though. He wasn't completely lost to the moment of eating. She took a few bites here and there.

"So they're .. mates, huh?" It came from apparently nowhere, the question.

She nodded, "Yeah, much to Chas' chagrin." She smiled a bit.

"I bet." He shoved another big piece of meat into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. "Didn't see that one coming."

"I don't think any of us did, though he's been sweet on her this whole time."

"I know he was taking care of her. i didn't think they would bond like that."

"They've been good for each other. She is not as skittish and he is growing a bit of a backbone."

"Yeah, I know." Luc had never stood up to anyone before in Damon's memory.

"Wouldn't bring him in for backup, mind..." She smiled at the thought.

"I don't know how far his gumption would go. we'll have to see about that."

"He doesn't have the stomach for it, Damon. I'd just as soon give him enough to defend himself with."

He offered her a piece of cheese. "All right."

She took the piece of cheese with a light nip as his fingers. She grinned mischievously.

He chuckled at the nip, eyes dancing over her face. "Imp."

She grinned at him, "Yes, 100 percent."

He flicked his finger at her nose, trying to tap it. "It'll get you into trouble."

She smiled at him, "Depends on the trouble you had in mind."

"You .. pinned down and naked.?

She purred at that thought. "You act as if I would object."

"Mmm.. doesn't sound like you would. Might have to try it."

She purred softly, "That you will. Though I was thinking of a shower personally." She was in an impish mood.

"Cats don't like water though." His grin was growing in spite of his 'objection'.

She purred, "I'm sure we can change your mind about that one."

"I might be able to be convinced."

"A little water, a little soap and a whole lot of slippery fun?"

"I could use a shave."

She grinned at him and scritched under his chin. He tipped his head up a little as she scritched, eyes closing. An exhaled growly purr followed. She was smiling as she scritched. "Like that eh?"

A shiver flowed over his skin, the growly purr continued as he nodded just a little. She leaned in to kiss him lightly. His eyes opened briefly when her lips touched his, then they closed again. He didn't object to the kiss in the least; in fact he leaned into it. The kiss was brief but full of heat. He shared it with her for as long as he could, leaning into it and continuing forward even after she drew away.

He licked his lips and smiled at her. "It's good to be back."

"(vq)It's good to have you back. I did miss you."

His face lit up, eyes starting to twinkle in a manner that she'd not often seen. "Really?"

She smiled back, warm and sincere, "Really."

"I don't plan on running off anytime soon."

"Good, otherwise I'd have to hunt you down again." She smiled softly

"That almost sounds fun."

She chuckles softly, "We'll have to do that one, probably put it together with the pin down naked."

"You're going to be the one pinned down.?

She chuckled softly, "Wrestle you for it." She grinned at him impishly.

"Deal." He smirked and lunched forward to try and grab her.

She turned trying to stay just out of his reach. He wasn't in a good position and she managed to slip out of his reach. Damon twisted and rolled a little, trying to right himself so he could try again. She smiled at him, she really wasn't trying all the hard to get away. He lunged again, arms trying to snag her into an embrace, wanting to draw her back against his body. She let him catch her, wanted to be held again. Especially by him.

He buried his face into her neck from behind and growled against her skin, maneuvering her around so he could get her onto the bed under him again. It was nice to hold her and play like this.

She laid back in the bed purring at him. There was a smile playing across her lips. "(vq) You've got me, now what are you going to do?"

He nipped her neck. "Ravage you."

She purred, ?Oh yummm.."

But he chose to take his time. This was fun and she was enjoying it so would he. Enjoy it she did. It felt good to just play like this. She was certainly enjoying being ravaged. The more she enjoyed it, the more he played into it for her. The extra sleep and the food had helped his strength even if he still had a few sore places here and there. She know how to soothe those aches too as they played. She wanted to make him feel really good.

He was lost in her, enjoying the moment and those aches that only came up now and then were either ignored or soothed away by her touch. She let herself get lost in his embrace, his touch. It was easy to do and today was about making him feel better. He felt good. Oh yeah. He finally curled her into him and just held her, nuzzling into her neck. Murmuring sounds of pleasure and happy purring.

She was purring softly, holding him close. His name had been on her lips. "(vq)I feel thoroughly ravaged." Oh no she was definitely not complaining either.

His fingers traveled southward, touching and teasing yet. "Good."

She was purring like a kitten in his arms. He did his best to keep her purring. It was peaceful and this was a perfect moment in time for him. She nuzzled into him, feeling very sated, very peaceful at this point. More than once he swallowed words that threatened to mar the moment. He nestled his cheek against her and let the moment flow around them. She reached up to scritch under his chin. Another throaty growl escaped him when she did that, an almost whimper with it.

She smiled at him, too comfortable. She did not want to move at all. He wasn't about to let her go anywhere.

She closed her eyes for a time and smiled softly.
