Liam was in the garden with a bowl under his arm and a list in his hand. He was scooping up the ingredients into small plastic bags, a grumble or two and he was well on his way. A few things were already in the bowl. Some he had inside, but most of it he wanted to pick fresh. He peered at the paper and read it out loud:

1 glass jar with cork stopper or lid (a small canning jar is fine)
1/2 to 1 cup salt (depending on size of the jar)
3 cloves garlic
9 bay leaves
7 TBS dried basil
4 TBS dill seeds
1 TBS sage
1 TBS anise
1 TBS black pepper
1 TBS fennel
1 bowl
Setting everything up on a patch of grass in the back of the house he faced the sun, letting it warm his skin.

Liam placed the salt into the bowl and said:
"Salt that protects, protect my home and all within it."
He then added the cloves of garlic to the bowl and spoke:
"Garlic that protects, protect my home and all within it. "
Next he crumbled the bay leaves, placed them in the bowl and said:
Bay that protects, protect my home and all within it.
Liam then added the basil and spoke:
Basil that protects, protect my home and all within it.
He Added dill and said:
Dill that protects, protect my home and all within it.
Next he added the sage and recited :
Sage that protects, protect my home and all within it.
He added the anise and said:
Anise that protects, protect my home and all within it.
Liam added the pepper and said:
Pepper that protects, protect my home and all within it.
Lastly he added the fennel and said:
Fennel that protects, protect my home and all within it.

Liam mixed the herbs and salt with his hands and used those same hands and his fingers to direct energies into the protective pieces of the puzzle. He pictured the home safe, guarded, shining and a place of secure sanctuary. Uncorking the large jar he carefully poured the mixture into it. When he brought the jar into the house he placed it right beside the front door and said softly.

Salt and herbs, nine times nine
Guard now this home of mine.
It is done.
