Pard (n) A leopard or other large cat (1). For our purposes, pard is also being used to denote a family group of cats along the lines of a pride.
Nimir-Ra and Nimir-Raj
A given pard's queen is its "Nimir-Ra," and its king is its "Nimir-Raj." (Nimir appears to be a version of "Namir," the word for panther in Hindi, Arabic, and Hebrew. "Raj" is Hindi for king or ruler.)(2)
What is with all these cats lately?
In his travels, Talomar Longden came across a small pard of were-cats headed by an Alpha female. The pard was small and broken in many ways. It's Alpha had just come into her power and won them from their old Alpha.
It is during The Gathering that the Alpha brings her pard to these lands to start anew. But why here, why now? Ask Talomar, his call worked better than even he could imagine...
The Pard:
Mihaela Ashante - Nimir-Ra/Current Alpha, Panther. Former Vice Cop who was transformed into a were-panther on a bust gone bad. She bided her time until she was powerful enough to kill the Alpha that did this to her. Now her task is healing the pard.
Damon Kard - Second/Enforcer - Jaguar. Damon was second to the old Alpha and Mihaela has inherited his bad attitude. They have enough of an understanding that she has named him her second. He could be Nimir-Raj in his own right... Loyalty questions have been resolved. Mihaela loves him dearly.
Akiko Katamura - Enforcer/Former DEA - Snow-leopard. Akiko was the agent in charge during the bust that changed Mihaela's life. She was a Were-Leopard back then and pulled the younger cop out after she was mauled by Gregory. She also helped Mihaela with her first change and gave the girl the best weapon she had, knowledge.
Tycet el'Noor - Couch Potato/Messenger/Herbalist - Panther. Whenever he is seen in the inns he is happy go lucky and never without his sweets. Usually this is a reward he gives himself for a long day of hunting for the special herbs the pard needs or running messages.
Lucas Lachie - Former Exotic Dancer/Messenger - Panther. Lucas is truly skittish and submissive to the point of not being able to say no. That is changing little by little as he heals. He is a gentle soul that loves to read and is best friends/mate to another in his pard, having saved her from the old alpha.
Charles "Chas" Dionyx Distiller - Bengal Tiger. Chas is the only tiger in this pard. There are two things he treasures above anything else. His work with Absinthe and his little sister. The old Alpha would torture him by hurting his sister. Now that they have a measure of safety, the Tiger stays out of loyalty.
Vanessa "Van" Dionyx - Panther. Vanessa was a normal kid growing up. As normal as you could get when you parents were gone and you were rebelling against your over-protective brother. He always warned her that there were things out there, dangerous things. She should have listened. Instead she found herself taken by a were-panther that demanded her brother work for him. She had been tortured in all ways and made into a were-panther. It was her friend/mate Lucas that saved her. She loves her big brother, likes cuddling with Lucas and stealing Tycet's sweets. Her most prized possession is the Teddy bear that her mate gave her.
Garal - Tinkerer/Lynx. The professor is an older cat that is looking for a safe place to do his work and not have to worry about other encroaching on his territory.
Viktor Stone - Vice/Loner/Coyote. Vik was Mihaela's partner in her former life. He came to these lands looking for her and instead found his girlfriend, Cerise Nha?slal. It was in protection his "Cherry", that Viktor became infected by a Were-coyote. Mihaela refused to destroy him, instead took him in as part of the Pard.
Aret - Panther. Aret was perhaps the most traumatized of the pard. The former leader was her uncle and he would abuse and pimp her out for favors to his cronies. Ultimately, he infected her with the lycanthropy, making her a panther. Aret rarely, if ever, speaks. She tried to stay unseen and undetected. Of late she has been seen with a young man, one Damien Tanner. Damien realizes that she was severely abused and would kill to protect her.
