Tidal Wave

Your love pushes over like a tidal wave
I feel the impact as we collide ~ Sub Focus ft. Alpine

The ships at sea didn?t notice the way the water rose beneath them. The true force of the wave wouldn?t be seen until it approached the shoreline. The quake that happened in the Glen had been picked up long before the tremors had reached the surface by one individual who was attuned to the planet in ways others could only wish to be. There was little Magneto could do to stop what was happening there, it had occurred so quickly that he barely had time to begin his supersonic flight. For the briefest of moments he wondered if the sensors of Edward Batten would bring the same conclusion that Magneto felt happening.

He flew like a red streak through the air above the city, his armor forming on his body with just a thought. The metal seemed to liquefy and form around him, a sight that would intrigue any who had the visual acuity to see it at such speeds. His goal was far distant from the Glen.

The waters of the harbor were already receding by the time he arrived, a wall of water rising some fifteen stories into the air. Magneto could feel the lines of the planet beneath him as though they flowed through his own body. He focused on them taking a position outside of Overlord Island and raising an invisible wall as far as his ability allowed him along the coast. He?d been out of sight long enough, learning about this new planet until he knew every square mile of it.

The wave hit his barrier at a thousand miles an hour. The concussive force of it drove him and his erected barrier back into the harbor. Magneto couldn?t stop the shout of effort to maintain the field. He was also losing ground to the force of nature. Sweat formed beneath his helmet with his effort, it soaked his hair and made his skin beneath the armor slick and cold. He couldn?t count on aid to come in time, but this wave would surely cover the city a run hundreds of miles killing who knew how many people.

Magneto sent his consciousness deeper into the ground gaining strength and pushing that strength into the barrier that was now easily seen at the surge point of the wave. Waves break, that was something he understood, they were unstable and couldn?t support the mass. That was the reason for the curl of the water when it approached the coastline. He worked quickly to invert the top of the barrier, perhaps he could manage to force the wave to break in the opposite direction and use its own force against it.

The water rose along barrier, Magneto kept sending the top of it higher and pushing it outwards. The top of the wave curled back against the rush, but that was when the center of his force field gave out. The wall of water slapped him from the air, and pulled him deep into it. The surge had slowed, its elevation had diminished but the onrush was still more than the city inside the harbor to endure. Magneto couldn?t breathe, he was thrown about by the eddies within the wave, but he still needed to act. Someone needed to act.

He pulled the gravitational field through his body once again forming an airtight sphere about his body. One last ditch effort had him containing the water at the very base of the wave and giving a mighty mental shove. The wave began to pull itself apart in the form of a riptide which. The force of that riptide pulled at his sphere. He anchored it into place, he needed to stay here and keep surge after surge from finding the shoreline. He had no idea how long he was at it, or when his strength finally gave out. What he knew was that he was lying on the sand not far outside of the city and that for a moment when he looked up he thought he saw a pair of orange eyes looking on cruelly.

He was likely just seeing things, the efforts of preventing the disaster had him seeing spots in front of his eyes as well. It was probably just a trick of the mind. It was all he could do to roll over and stand. What would those who watched over the city think? Would they read the magnetic discharge he?d created and automatically assume it was his doing? He looked to the skies, surely he didn?t have much time before they arrived. Magneto pulled what strength he?d recovered into himself and rocketed skywards reaching speeds that would keep even The Ranger from catching him easily.
