It was time. She had been staying the past few night at the house, but felt as though she was intruding. It was nothing they said or did. It was her needing her own space and more familiar surroundings.

She spent a few nights sketching her ideas while Chas worked. She understood his passionfor his craft and did not begrudge him his time. She hid her loneliness in the plans for her new home.

Her days had been spent exploring this little isle. On one such day she had run across one of the other males that lived here. The red head was just as fiery as his mop of hair. It didn't help that she gave it back to him in spades. She was not some weak willed child that he could talk down to.

In any event, she had managed to find the perfect spot near a very strong node. This would be the perfect place for her to build her home. Not too far from Chas' workshop, yet far enough for privacy...

Now she just needed to find help to build it.

Garal had seen her several times in the previous days through the windows of his workshop, staying near the distillery.

She probably desired Chas for a mate, which bothered Garal not a whit. He had long since given up the pleasures of younger men, having been one himself once.

His wife had been dead some years now, and his children and grandchildren long since moved on. If he had the dates correct, a new generation of his progency might be even now drawing breath.

Something was bothering this woman, though.

He wasn't sure of what it was, and curiousity was starting to get the better of him. Looking down at the ground sulphur in front of him, he sighed heavily. "You know, you're not going to get much of any finer with these tools," he told it. "I suppose I could go and find out."

The steel crucible and it's contents merely sat there.

Garal snorted, and left the workshop. He cast about, looking for the young lady.

She was not far from the distillery, looking over the chosen patch of the Isle. It's should be hard to get the vale itself set, it was building the Ekele itself that would present a problem.

She looked at the piece of paper and considered setting one up on the ground. She dared not disturb Chas as he worked though. She closed her eyes and shook ehr head, seeing the task be impossible with out help.

The old man made sure to make noise, so the young lady might know of his approach, even as engrossed as she was in the papers in front of her.

"Constructions plans, or letters from home," he asked quietly.

She didn't seem startled at all. There was a wisdom in those warm amethyst years that told of age, though you could not tell by looking at her.

"Construction plans, though it looks like I will be forced to chance them." There was anote in her voice that bespoke layers of disappointment.

The old man heard the disappointment in that sigh, and cocked his head curiously. "If I may?"

He held out his hand for the documents she held.

She passed over the plans that called for a tree house. The plans would work if she had help.

She looked up at the gentleman that stood over her. "Please excuse my manners, I am Shariane."

He unrolled them, giving them a long look. "My name is Garal G'mphjal, Lady Shariane, although I am more commonly known merely as 'Professor' hereabouts."

He glanced up, and fixed the desired location in his mind. "This design would require more than a 'little' modification if you're thinking placing it on the ground." He pointed an gnarled finger up where he suspected she really wanted it.

"Up there would work far better, but we'll need a few minor modifications to this," he waved the sheaf. "Not to mention a strong back or two to get things up there."

He handed back the plans, and adjusted his spectacles on his narrow face. "It can be done, I think," he said quietly.

She looked over to the location she had in mind as she took back the plans. "That's the problem, getting the help."

She looked wistfully over to the distillery and couldn't help feeling a pang as she thought about things. Things she swore she wouldn't do again, and yet she feels as if she had broken those promises to herself. It was not an easy feeling, especially not with the way her heart was tied up in it.

"The hardest part is assembling the ekele where I need it."

Garal

"Is that what you call it," he mused. "Would make more sense to assemble it in pieces on the ground, and lift the segments. At minimum, it would be safer. So far as strong back, I suspect a short chat with Mihaela might scare up one, and another in the Distillery for the price of a smile."

He shook his head. "If I can get one or two off our more agile and brachially inclined members to lend a paw, I may even have a solution to that. Seems to me that an old-fashioned barn-raising might go a long way towards forming a proper community here."

She didn't feel comfortable with asking Chas to take time away from his work. Hells, she didn't feel comfort bothering anyone.

"Would you be able to ask them for me?" She asked plainly.

The old man peered at her over his wire-framed lenses. "What worries you, little one? Afraid we already have too much on our plates?"

He gave a very catlike snort, and wriggled his nose at her. "I'm sure the distillery will get along without Chas for a day. But it should be you who asks. I will speak to the others, but a request from me, even on your behalf, won't mean nearly as much as one coming from you.

"Trust me on this."

Shariane

She nodded and wondered how he would react to her intrusion. She couldn't shake the feeling.

But if she wanted her home, she had to try. She pushed herself to her feet and over to the distillery. It felt like her heart was in her throat as she raised a dainty hand to knock at the door.

Chas Dionyx

The door pulled open after a moment, Chas in the door frame wearing a confused look, disheveled hair, and jeans. He blinked at the light as if it were something unwelcome and then smiled when he realized who was standing there. "Shariane." He hadn't expected to see her. "Hi."

Shariane

"Hi, yourself." She thought he was cute looking, though they were best off as friends the more she thought about things.

"Was wondering if I could steal you away from your work? I need help with the building of my place."

She wanted her own little retreat away from everyone. She was tired fo being an outsider.

His brows went up and then he grinned. "You're building a place?" Chas peered out and squinted against the sun. "Here on the island?"

Mihaela must like the idea of having others around if she approved that. And if she approved it, then it would be poor form to not help - although he knew it would be poor form to not help regardless. Shariane was a friend, after all. He took a step outside, bare feet finding the sensation of cool grass pleasant. "Where at?"
