Earlier that night ? Teas and Tomes, Rhydin Marketplace.
Raena was looking at that strange globe with a touch of sadness. Fingers drifting across one of the clearer images. Memories of home, of good times? of family.
Making her way into the tea shop, Lucretia looked around, before slowly approaching her mother. In her arms was a wrapped package; something tasty was making a yummy kind of smell.
Raena turned at the sound of the bell, dispelling the image in the globe. A smile curved upon her lips seeing her daughter. "Lucretia, darling."
"Hello Mother. I brought you a snack." She smiled back to her and then flopped down in the chair beside her mother. The package was offered out to her.
Raena took the package and settled into a chair herself. "Oh?" She unwrapped the package. Chicken on a stick and some spring rolls waited for her mother.
Lucretia gave her another smile. "I know that I've not exactly been the best kid in the world..."
Raena shook her head and took a bite of one of the spring rolls. Been a long time since she broke her fast. "This place has been trying on all of us."
There was a nod and a frown to that," I know. Hardest on you, cause you've been doing this on your own."
"I have your grandfather for support. It is difficult though, trying to be both for everyone and trying to hold things together."
"Remember all those stories about love that you told me about?" Luc asked, because she was doing her best to make her mother smile.
"Yes, darling. I do remember." There was a smile at that.
"It's unconditional, and you've showed that, even when we've been a pain." Lucretia gave her a gentle smile," You've been a good Mother and I never say thank you to that."
"I do it because I do love you... all of you. I do not do this for thanks." She smiled softly to Lucretia.
"You still like hearing it, I know that." She leaned in and took a bit of chicken. "I'm sure if Dad was here, he'd be really proud of you for what you've been doing for the family."
"I can only hope..." Raena took another piece of the food.
At that moment, a figure passes by the window and pauses in trepidation. Every ounce of him urges him forwards, but in his confusion he takes half a step back. However, in the distance he is seen once again, searching openly for something he cannot find.
Lucretia noms on the piece of chicken silently then squints towards the window. "M... M.... Moooooommmm."
Raena tilts her head, "Yes, dear?" She looked to the window and pauses. "Is that?"
"DAD!" Lucretia's already springing up and rushing to the door.
In the glow of lamp light, his face turns heavenward with a sense of foreboding. Cautious, anxious, he moves further from the tea shop and out of sight of either window or door.
Raena was on her daughter's heels, "Octavius!"
"Daaaad!" Lucretia is practically screaming with joy.
The strangled cry comes next along with wing beats. "Raena?! Lucretia?! Raena, Luc-- RUUUN!" Another cry echoes in the night. The only thing left behind that shows any sign of him is a mere piece of fabric and his family ring.
"Octavius?! NO!" She was running in that direction now. "Hades take you... " She was cursing whatever that thing was.
"Dad?! DAD!" Somehow her mother got before her. Eyes darted and searched the heavens as Lucretia took in a deep breath. Biting her lip she spoke," I... I thought I heard wing beats... I don't get it... He was right there!!"
Raena knelt down to pick up the cloth and the ring. "He was here... He's in danger, darling."
Lucretia?s fists clenched as she watched her mother take hold of her father's possessions. "We'll get him back... We have to."
"Yes, we have to. Find your siblings, Lucretia. We've got no time to lose. I'll find your grandfather." Raena ordered as she stood.
"Yes mother. I'll find the others." Lucretia was already taking off towards the Inn's direction. She paused to hug her mother then took off at the best speed she could possibly make.
Raena nodded and headed for there lodging. She had that stoic mask in place, when all see wanted to do was weep.
