Ileen McGowan

There were times over the last few months, when Ileen would be absolutely staggered by the life changes that she had embarked upon and more times than not, she was left speechless. It was more a case of admitting certain things to herself, even if they were not voiced. The last few days were no exception to that.

Destined in her mind and heart to be alone and walk the path in solitude, this wasn?t just from a personal level but also a business one. In the past, there was little conscious for either. Ultimately, the devil may care grin won out as a form of self preservation as all that she held dear was either ripped from her grasp or was never true in the first place.

There are people who love carelessly, without a concern in the world. Then there are those who are not capable of this and love for life. That isn?t love by definition, that is a soul that requires the constant of all that is true, the good and the horrific. It doesn?t abandon on a whim and a smile. It stays solid and the foundation while tested, never cracks. It requires what is beyond a simple definition.

So that brings to mind, if one is enraptured in what they think is true and find out it is perversely the opposite?.did it ever count in the first place? Yes, on some level, but not all levels. At least not on the receiver?s side of it.

In Ileen?s mind, while it may have been twisted at times, she had loved only once. Some would argue this point, but the fa?ade could not be changed. It could only be moved on from and hopefully, the real comes into play. Which, it did. In spades.

Little by little, the bonding of Jack and Ileen was evolving into all of the things it should. This was of course, bizarre to most and even to them. The two of them resembled large onions, with a thousand different layers. Day by day, those layers were being peeled back to reveal what was within the next, leaving the one before not so raw and unapproachable.

He embraced everything she was and would be, as she did him. That was not to say that things were perfect, they weren?t. The two of them argued and fought to an almost unreasonable level, but they always came back and talked it out. He was stubborn, opinionated and harsh. She was just as stubborn, opinionated and harsh. But that was okay. It was them.

So while Ileen was not a woman who gushed and showed her emotions like some did, they were no less true. Nor was it less true when she would watch him sleep, like she was doing at this moment and not so simply?.loving him.

Aye, he was her first.

Aye, they had a wedding to plan.

Jack was faking sleep as Ileen watched him, laying there while her mind went over her own past. As well as think that she was meant to be alone. He had been thinking over that as well, during the time he watched her sleeping beside him.

On his end. He had noticed that day by day since they met the other. Both had slowly lowered the self imposed barriers they had placed around themselves, and day by day. Each one was slowly falling, allowing the other in closer. True they did bicker a lot, with half of the time it being in play. Other times it was down right heated, yet they continued to work things out.

A slow smirk would cross his lips now, as he opened one eye to peer up at her. "Ye be enjoying this to much. Watching me sleeping." Murmured up to the wench, as he opened his other eye. They still had that wedding of theirs to plan.

Obviously lost in her thoughts, Ileen visibly jumped when he spoke and she stuffed the held pillow even tighter into her stomach. Other than that, she didn't move. But, her lips surely did in familiar fashion. "I was contemplating the easiest way to suffocate you because you were snoring too loud, but I could not figure out how I would get your body over the rail without it being noticed." A sweet and tousled smile curling her lips. It made sense didn't it?

Watching the jump when he spoke, got him to just crack up laughing. Which lasted for a couple of moments, before she spoke. "Ye wouldn't be trying to do that to me. Ye be missing me, and be missing me snoring." Watching as she hugged the pillow closer. "Ye be thinking of everything that be happening again." Like he was one to talk on that. He then tilted his head as he moved to lay on his side, facing her now.

A slow nod canting her head. "Aye, and I know how much you loathe the way I pick things apart, but sometimes I can't help it." A reach over to give one of the baubles at his goatee a tiny tug. "But now, I am thinking of the future and not questioning the past, including our past. We have one you know. I will admit however that you shock me sometimes on a daily basis, for instance your mum's ring. Its staggering to go from one moment thinking that perhaps you just didn't want to get married, to that being shown to me. You leave me speechless at times. Which I am not so sure is a good thing. Is it normal to be left that way by the one you are in love with? Or is it a case of me not having the faith I should in you, when I have that in entirely...?" Obvious that perhaps even the simplest of things for some, were not for her...and even him maybe.

He just watched her silently for a few moments, as she gave that bauble a tug. "Ye should be knowing by now, that I be doing things out of the blue. Just to be keeping ye on yer toes." Murmured to her for a moment, before moving a hand up to catch the hand that was playing with the baubles. "With me mum's ring? That be planned fer a long time, luv. As for me to be leaving ye speechless?" He'd get hit now. "Just be a way to get a moment's peace from yer nattering." Smiling at her now.

Ileen didn't hit him, she just grinned in a cocky kinda way. That she was long since used to. "The day I stop nattering is the day your ass does go falling over that rail." Leaning forward, the pillow was set aside and she stretched out down his length to drape a leg across his hip. "When was your mother's birthday?" An odd question? Absolutely.

Jack just smirked back at her for a moment half expecting her to hit him with something. "Ye still be going on about that? Ye be tripping and threw yourself over the railing." He's still sticking to that claim, before his brows rose a touch. "It be in June. Why?"

"And your fathers?" She would tell him why she was asking in a moment. If he kept it up, she was going to Charlie horse him in the thigh with her bare heel. Her thought process wheels were turning, slowly, but they were turning.

"Why ye be asking?" Head tilting slightly as he moved a hand along the leg she had draped over his hip. As no one ever asked him when his parents' birthdays were before.

"Tell me and I will tell you why..." Nearly nose to nose with him, her eyes were going very wide. "Bid me this please, I have a good reason or do you not know?"

He sighed. "Demanding wench." Muttered back at her. "It be in January." Now narrowing his eyes. "Now be telling me why."

"Because I was hoping they would be close together or in the same month, so that we may set a wedding date within it or close. But it would seem that won't be possible. I just thought it would be fitting.." Frowning then, she deposited a kiss to the corner of his mouth and rested back.

He nodded lightly to that for a moment. "Well we could be having it on yer birthday." Offering that to her as he knew how some women could get about their wedding. He returned the light kiss with one to the tip of her nose.

That gave her an idea. Lifting up, she leaned over him and fished for a coin on his bedside table and rolled it into her palm. "You are June 17th, Bridget and I are June 13. Heads for the 17th and tails for the 13th, aye?" The coin waiting to be tossed into the air.

Watching her for a moment, then tilted his head on her idea. "That be fine with me." Nodding lightly as he slipped back a bit to let the coin thump on the bed when she finally flipped it.

Tipping him a wink, the coin was snicked from her thumbnail to twist and turn above the bed before it finally fell with a light bounce. A hand then slapping over her eyes, she chuckled. "I can't look! Call it..."

He watched the coin bounce, before blinking for a moment. "Somehow it be landing on it's edge." Which it actually did. "Guess that be meaning we pick a date right in the middle of our birthdays."

"No, that is not acceptable.." Came the whine and the hand fell with a growl. "One or the other and I as the bride, wish for it to be on June 17th. Matter settled. It is a reminder that your parents brought you into this world on that day and you have been shared with me. It is only fitting." Nodding curtly to herself, she laid back down and just knew he was going to argue about it.

Tilting his head for a moment, before smirking slowly at her. "That be fine with me. If it be on me birthday, ye have to be twice as nice to me. Be seeing how it be my birthday, it be meaning that I be getting twice as many gifts from ye." He knew she was expecting him to argue about it, so in typical Jack fashion. He rained on that parade.

"That will work out just fine, as for the thirty days before our wedding, we must not inhabit the same bed. So I will take you twice that night, as that will be my gift to you..." Her turn to tap him on the nose, she was smug at that moment. "So the date is set, June 17th, if we do not manage to kill each other first."

"Guess that be meaning I need to be finding Mona to be keeping me warm at night." Knowing that she knew that he wouldn't do that. "If that be how ye be wanting to handle things. Then I be guess that be how we be doing things."

"Mona could not handle you, Jack." Said matter of factly. Facing him dead on, she couldn't help but run a fingertip across his collarbone. "I wish for you to tell me how you would like things handled, please?"

He chuckled to that comment about Mona and had to agree, even if he didn't voice it. "Simple be fine for me." Typical guy answer, as they already had the place picked out for the wedding. "I know it be our day, but I be knowing that some women be planning their perfect wedding out for a while." He then leaned towards her. "And I be knowing that ye be thinking on this for a while."

"I think the date is the most important thing for me. I am not one that requires some huge wedding full of pomp and circumstance. The date as well as those who will be there. We should be surrounded by those that have walked the path with us. It just seems like such a long way away, but we may as well be married now, we live like we are everyday."

He nodded lightly in agreement with her on that, before smirking a bit at her. "Ye not be wearing one of those poofy girly wedding dresses then?" Now a mock pout at her. "Guess I be expecting to much of ye to be girly once in a while."
