On her way home from the Red Dragon, she stops at her mailbox. She lowers the flag and pulls open the little blue painted door. Inside there are an assortment of windowed envelopes. Already, the bills started coming in. She reaches in and pulls out the three envelopes that are in there and closes the mailbox.

Walking slowly towards the house, she looks at the return addresses on the upper corners of the envelopes. One in particular caught her eye. It bore the crest of the Culinary Institute of Waterdeep. That was Rosie's alma mater.

Opening up the door to the house, she steps in and gently closes it behind her. It was quiet, and she supposed Dean was in his study, painting or writing. Placing the envelopes onto the little table she had next to the door, she removes her sweater and hangs it on the coat rack.

Picking the envelopes back up, she makes her way to the kitchen and pulls back a chair from the table and takes a seat. She puts the two other envelopes on the table and uses a paring knife to open up the one from the Culinary Institute of Waterdeep.

"Dear Alumnus,

We here at the CIoW wish to acknowledge the accomplishments of our students and to showcase them for our current student body. We are holding an open house on the weekend of the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of this month.

Please accept this invitation to come speak. Your name has come up as one of our graduates that has gone on to embrace the culinary arts as a profession and have done so successfully.

We look forwards to hearing from you.

Allen Beanwards
Alumni Liason"

She read the letter over twice and couldn't believe it. She'd been to the open houses before as a student. She never dreamed she'd be invited to speak.

Rising from the chair quickly, she clutches the letter in her hand and walks into the kitchen, then towards the back of the living room.

"DEAN?!"

He was sitting in his comfortable twirling chair, which sometimes for the heck of it he twirled around until he was dizzy. Anyway, his paintbrush in hand, he had been putting the final touches to this recent painting.

He would place a tiny mark, sit back, look and then smile. It was coming along nicely indeed. He was so excited that he was starting to actually be commissioned for his works.

So just as his brush was about to hit back down he heard his name screamed. And this made him fall flat off his swivel chair with a loud thud.
But he was quickly up, scrambling to run towards the living room.

Once there, his face was full of concern.

"You ok?!"

She's standing there in the middle of the living room, letter in hand. The excitement showed in her face as her eyes were widened and dancing. Once he's in sight, she walks quickly to meet up with him in the middle of the room.

"They asked me to come back and speak! My alma mater asked me to come back and speak at their open house!"

She hands him the letter and waits for his response. Her mind is already made up, she's going.

Before she spoke he gave her a once over. Nothing seemed to be hurt, and then he heard her. A deep sigh of relief escaped him and he chuckled lightly to himself that he was such a worrier.

"Open house huh?" He grinned at her then took the paper, reading over it slowly. Now first thought was, there was no way she was going alone. But then who would watch over the Deli for those few days if he went with her?

"I'm not sure I want you to go alone, maybe I should find someone to handle the Deli while we both go. I should be with you, this is something special for you. And I bet there will be free food!" He said with a bright smile, wrapping both arms around her and placing a kiss to her nose.

"I think I will hire us an assistant, what do you say? And with the baby coming, I think we could use all the help we can get." He knelt down, placing his head against her stomach and giving it a kiss.

"Ain't that right little one.."

Placing her hands lightly on his head she couldn't help but smile. She gently strokes his hair back from his face. All else forgotten at this moment. She felt her heart would burst with the amount of love she felt for this man.

She whispered quietly, "An assistant sounds like a wonderful idea, m'love. But who, on such short notice?"

She could stand there and watch his face forever. A proud man, that he was and it showed on every inch of his gentle face.

He kissed her tiny nose, and then gave her his boyish grin.

"Don't you worry, I will write to my cousin. A friend of ours will be perfect for the job." He nodded sagely.

He gave her a kiss to the cheek and went back to his study.
Paper and pen in hand he wrote to his cousin, he knew exactly who would fill this job just right.
He grinned at the thought of seeing his old pal again. It had to at least been two years.

Bailey,
Cousin remember that favor you owe me, well I'm collecting, I need you to send for him. He will get a kick out of working with me I just know it, I haven't been able to find him on my own so do me this favor. And would it kill you to stop by and talk once and a while? I know, I know you are busy.

Love you dearly,
Dean

He grinned at the letter, he did miss his cousin. She was off working, the military kept her quite busy. He just hoped it would get to her in time before they needed to leave.
He was out of the room, handing the letter to the small delivery boy.

"To Bailey Santiago." Two coins were then placed in the boy's other hand as he then dashed off.

Green-blue eyes scanning over the short letter once more. Long fingers curling around the paper, causing it to crinkle as black and gray converse shoed feet carry him down the road.
Green-blue eyes flashing up, the ranch home coming into view. The green shutters? Yes this was the place. He tilts his head, a smile playing along his lips.
Keeping the crumpled letter in his hand, he pauses for a moment to give the ranch home a one more detailed look. How interesting it must of been for someone to spy this young man standing before the home, as if he were casing the joint.
His lips purse at the thought of that, however the sly grin creeps there within moments.

Without another moment of hesitation he bounds up the steps and onto the porch.
The drifting scent of food hit his nostrils immediately. Someone must be home.
His hand is brought up from his side, long fingers ball into a tight fist. He begins knocking on the door vigorously.

She was in the kitchen, stirring a pot of softly simmering beans, a cake was in the convection oven and a roast in the regular one. She was preparing for a dinner service later in the week. When the pounding commenced on her front door, it caused her to jump.

"I'm coming, I'm coming! Hold on to your drawers!" She called out to the door. She was sure Dean could hear the pounding and she looks back over her shoulder. Sure enough, he appeared at the door of his study. She assures him that she'll take care of it and he disappears back behind the closed door.

She reaches the door and turns the knob, pulling the door open. There stood a giant, well to her, everybody was a giant. She folds her arms across her chest and leans against the door frame. "May I help you?"

He continues to knock until the door finally opens.
Green-blue eyes dart down to the woman in front of him. Fingers tighten on the letter causing even more of the crinkling noise.

"Dean, I'm looking for Dean Santiago." The sly grin still on his face as soon as his mouth finishes forming the words. Dark locks fall into his face as he feels the need to tilt his head to give the woman a better look of himself.
The hand that had been knocking now rests on the doorframe, long fingers folding over the frame. The index finger begins to tap for a moment before it falls back to his side.

"This is the O'Dell house, right."
His low bartoned voice held a gentleness within it.
Green-blue eyes look past her and into the house, he was always curious and right now he was even the more.

Her gut reaction was to close the door on the fellow and go get Dean. But the guy had asked for Dean by name, so she reconsidered. He seemed a bit eager to get into the house and that made her a little nervous.

Her gaze dropped to the note in his hands and then back up to the stranger's face. "You must be the one cousin Bailey sent. Please, come in." She steps back and pushes the door the rest of the way open. "I'll go get Dean. Have a seat."

She walked beside the stranger to the sofa, watching him sit. Assured that he's comfortable, she makes her way back to Dean's study and knocks gently before pushing the door open. "Dean, you've a visitor."

Dean Santiago

He heard the knock on the door, and the brush had been lighlty dropped on the desk just as she had pushed through the door.

"He is here?" He turned on his swivel chair, a grin now on his face. Up and off the chair to the doorway where she was.

Wrapping both tattooed arms around her and pulling her in for a loving embrace.

"I love you kitten." He kissed her neck a dozen times before letting her go, and making his way through the hallway.

Once in the living room, he laughed loudly.

"Gage, how the hell are you man?"

Gage Reynolds

His green-blue eyes drift towards the hallway. He had felt a possible awkward moment between himself and the young woman that left the room. He never did tell her his name, although she did not tell him hers either. His shoulders lifting for a moment, shrugging to himself.
He could only assume this was Dean's woman.
His eyes kept watching the hallway, his ears pick up the knock on the door. With a sigh he settles back on the couch, long arms brought up and with a thud fall to the back of the couch. A tickling sensation in the back of the throat, and he clears it loudly. This can be taken as nervousness, or just a simpe clearing of one's throat.

He saw Dean the moment he was in the hallway.
It would be rude to continue sitting, so up off the couch he was.
Converse shoed feet make their way to Dean, fingers curling into a tight ball. It makes contact with Dean's shoulder.
"Dude, I'm great." Lips curling, sly grin in place. Eye brows lift upwards, his slender lips forming the words with much detail.
"I hear you need my help?"

Hugging his waist tightly and leaning her head to the side to accept the kisses he showered, she caresses his cheek softly and gives a few kisses in return. Then she follows him until she reaches the doorway to the hall.

She watched the friendly little reunion with a smirk from the door to the hall way. Arms folded across her chest, she leans into the door frame and sighs softly.

The man seemed nice enough, and he was a friend of Dean's. But there was just something about him that she couldn't put her finger on. Something unsettling. She would have to watch him over the next few days and decide for herself whether or not to leave her precious Deli in his hands or not. Just for a weekend or not, that Deli was her livelihood, and she wouldn't trust that in the hands of just anybody.

She waited patiently, knowing Dean would introduce them eventually.

He chuckled at the punch to his arm. Gage hadn't changed one bit, and that caused him to chuckle even more. Catching Rosie in the corner of his eye, his eyes soon turned to the beauty in the doorway. He noted the posture, he knew her too well to not. And when he reached his hand out for her, he gave her a reasuring smile along with it.

"Thank you for coming Gage, and yes I think we should sit and talk about what we have in mind for you. But first I would like you to meet my fincee Rosie." He turned his gaze to Gage and back to Rosie.

"Gage, Rosie. Rosie this is my friend Gage Reynolds." He smiled between the two.

Gage Reynolds

Dean had not been the only one to see the young woman in the doorway. Gage's green-blues play along her face, her arms crossed. Eye brows lift up in a delicate and swift motion. Was this woman suspicious of him? Surely not him. This caused the corners of his mouth to curl up. His head tilts to get a better view of her, but then his eyes quickly pull up to Dean as he was speaking.
A light roll of his shoulders, as he was being introduced to the woman.

"Rosie."
It rolls off his tongue with gentle persuasion.

"Pleasure to meet you madam."
Long slender fingers brought up along with his arm, as he places it before her. The last three fingers of his hand curl slightly to accept her hand the moment she is to place it in his.

Pushing off of the door frame, she straightens her posture quickly. Shoulders squared, spine stiffened just a bit. She takes Dean's hand in hers and walks into the middle of the living room, standing between the two men.

Giving Dean's hand a quick squeeze, she smiles to him reassuringly before she turns back to Gage. She extends her arm and firmly shakes Gage's hand. "Gage." With a curt nod.

She noticed the grin and it irritated her. Why? She hadn't a clue. Perhaps he was picking up on her cautious vibe and found it funny? She didn't think it funny in the least. Turning her back on the blue green gaze of her husband's friend, she places her most pleasant smile on her face.

"You two have a seat. I'll go get something to drink. Is lemonade alright, m'love?" Her voice must have held a bit of an edge to it and she mentally cringes. Surely Dean would pick up on her discomfort and she didn't want to cause any waves. This man was here to help and she should be thankful, right?

Before he could answer, she turns away from them both and heads into the kitchen. The lemonade was already made and in the chill chest. She grabs three glasses, placing a couple of raspberries into the bottom of each, then filling them with ice. Pulling the pitcher of lemonade from the refridgerator, she fills each glass, then places the pitcher back.

She bends slightly as she picks up all three glasses between her fingers and heads on back into the living room. She takes a deep breath and blows it out slowly as she walks into the room with Dean and Gage. And she does it, she manages the smile that has won her many an arguement with a stingy vendor.

He had been standing there, watching with a grin on his face. Gage was a good friend of his, and he had known him since they were both little kids. And also knew that Gage came off, rather strange at first.

He stood idly by for the moment, and as Rosie left the room. Of course he caught the edge in her voice. And the moment she stepped out of the room, he waved a hand to the couch. Taking the chair infront of it for himself. He leaned forward, both tattooed arms on his knees and hands clasped together.

"We need someone to look after the Deli for a few days, and then after I
would like you to become some what of an assistant. Help Rosie out when she needs it. When I can't of course. With the baby coming and all, we could use all the help we can get." He added a nod at the end.

"That is, if you don't freak out Rosie anymore then you already did." He grinned at his old friend.

Once Rosie came back out, he cleared his throat and leaned back in the chair.

He curls his long slender fingers over her hand, they apply pressure for the duration of the contact. Green-blues danced over her, following her out of the room, lingering. A tilt of his head to the left. Attention now on Dean as he motions for the couch. A slow nod of his head in agreement, as he rests down on the couch, legs brought close to the edge. Long tanned arms fall to his sides, clashing with his navy blue shirt.

"Yes, as it had said in the letter. I would be more than willing to help."
Brows lift skyward at the mention of a baby.
"Congratulations."
The corners of his lips curling.
"And I assure you, I do not mean to."
Lips shut, pursing together, as Rosie enters back within the confides of the living room.

Manners dictate that guests come first, always have, always will in her book. So she offers Gage a glass of the lemonade first, then over to Dean, handing him a glass before taking a sip of her own.

"So, Gage, you will be staying with us?"It was more of an offer than a question. She wouldn't put one of Dean's friends out when she had a spare room. Besides, if Dean trusted this man, then she would trust Dean's judgement.

She settles to the ground by Dean's feet, laying her hand on his knee. Taking another sip of her lemonade, she looks between the two men.

Dean Santiago

Date: 2006-09-13 14:26 EST
He watched with a smile as Rosie handed Gage his lemonade and then his.

"Thank you, Petal." He took one sip before letting it rest in his hand. His gaze back on Gage. Nodding to Rosie's comment.
"I think it would be best if you did Gage, that way we can get to what needs to be done. Show you the ropes." He said with a grin. His free hand moving down to rest on Rosie's hand and gave it a little squeeze.

"Besides we have some catching up to do, and I would like Rosie to get to know my little brother. In the morning we will get right to business, I will take you to the Market. Show you the Deli, and all the shops around it." He raised his glass and took another sip.

"Maybe we can coax Rosie into taking you to one of the luncheons before we head out." Smiling down at Rosie.

Fingers curled around the cool glass and brought it to his thin lips. Lips opened just enough to allow but a tiny drop of the cool liquid into his mouth, and down his throat. A polite tilt of his head for Rosie.
At first he just sat there, listening. Green-blue eyes looking to Rosie, and then find their way back to Dean as he spoke.

"Rosie, I apologize for the way I reacted when we had just met, I assure you I mean nothing by it." A small sigh comes up from his throat and escapes pale thin lips.
"I would be honored to stay in your home, thank you."
Green-blue eyes watch the couple carefully, thin lips curl in a sincere smile.
"I am more then ready to be shown what I need to do. That is, If you still want my help after the way I acted." He waits for the reply, it could come from either of them, but with all honesty he wanted her to speak, for her to assure Dean and himself that he was not "freaking" her out as Dean had said.

RosieODel

She sat there quietly sipping her lemonade, canting her head to the side and nodding in agreement with Dean. He was right on the money and her slow nod was indicative of her agreement. She was a little surprised by the brother reference, but it doesn't reflect on her face.

"I'd be happy to take him through what happens at a luncheon. It'll be simple enough. And the dinner services and brunches are really not that much different. Brian's going to be handling the food part of it, so you'll be in charge of the servers and the cleaning crew."

She then turns her gaze upon Gage and an inaudible sigh escapes her lips. She didn't want things to be uncomfortable for anybody. It would take time for her to trust Gage. She'd been too trustworthy in the past and it had burned her, she'd take her time and get to know him before she would completely trust him.

"No need for apologies, Gage. You weren't doing anything wrong. You were being you. I simply over reacted. Please, do not think of it again." She finishes listening to what he has to say. "The spare room is not the largest or most luxuriant room but there's a sturdy bed and dressers in there. Make yourself at home." A sip of her lemonade and she continues. "And of course we need your assistance, Gage. You come highly recommended." A slow smile curls her lips as she turns her gaze back up on Dean. She turns her hand over and spreads her fingers, curling them between his.

Sitting there still sipping the cool lemonade, his hazel eyes watched the two. And after everything was said, he placed the glass on the table infront of him, a light kiss to Rosie's head, and he was up out of the chair.

"Well let's get you settled in. I'll show you to your room." He began to walk down the hallway. Waving a hand towards the guest bathroom.

"That is the bathroom, this is our room, and here is your room." He waved a hand to each. Opening the door of the spare room.

"And make your bed every morning, Rosie has a thing about that..." He whispered softly, and then chuckled softly.

Gage Reynolds

Green-blue eyes settle on the woman as she spoke, thin lips curl into the sly grin. Cool droplets fall off the glass and onto his long fingers, he leans forward, long arm reaches out, to place the glass on the table. Then settles back, both long arms are brought up to rest on the back of the couch.
"As I said before, I am more thing willing. I will be on my best behaviour." Light lift of the brow.
"Thank you again for letting me reside here for however long you can stand me." A chuckle, finally he let his guard down, and begins to feel more comfortable.

And as Dean stood, Gage does as well. It was only polite to stand when the man or woman of the house took to a stand.
A tilt of is head in a slow nod, as his long legs carry him behind Dean. A polite curl of his lips for Rosie as he does so.
"Yes alright." Green-blues dance along the hallway, to every where Dean waves his hand.
The door opens before him, and green-blues give it a curious glance.
"We do not have servants to do that?" His tone was that of jesting.
Through the door, he rests down on the bed. A light hop up and down on it. Comfortable as well. A sinister grin creeps onto thin lips.

Dean Santiago

Date: 2006-09-14 09:58 EST
A bright grin on his face.
"Very funny." He laughed lightly, though he knew Gage was only half kidding on that. It was no secret that Gage was brought up in a wealthy home. He shrugged.
"I think you will live."

He watched Gage as he moved on into the room, resting leaning against the doorway. A glance back towards the living room where he had left Rosie, and then back to Gage.
And then he caught it, that grin. He knew that grin and stood straight up, finger pointed directly at Gage.

"No women in the house!" Firmly put. "I mean it Gage, behave around here." Boy he sounded like a dad already!

And with that he shut the door, living Gage within. He had to chuckle lightly at himself. This was going to be interesting. Very interesting. Thankfully when it came to business Gage was trustworthy, but he had a feeling when Gage wasn't working...all hell was going to break loose.
