Mandatory evacuations were underway Saturday evening in Sakai County as a rapidly moving brush fire has burned more than 1,300 acres in the hills of the Yasuo National Forest.

About 30 homes are being evacuated along Himeji Road, said Emi Haru, spokeswoman for the Sakai County Emergency Operations Center.

The evacuation area starts at 30331 Himeji Road and continues east to the end of the road, Haru said. An evacuation shelter was opened at the University of Tsukuba at 3920 E. Chou Street in Sakai.

The brush fire is being fueled by tinder-dry vegetation and is in steep, hard-to-reach terrain.

Firefighters were being aided by water-mages as they tried to hold back flames atop ridgelines near Hanako.

Even before the evacuations were ordered, some residents had started to pack up pets and personal belongings to voluntarily evacuate.

The fire was first reported at 10:32 a.m. on Friday in Yasuo National Forest near the 30500 block of Himeji Road.

Strong wind was fueling flames as they moved up mountain slopes, consuming chaparral and oak trees ?that had not burned in several years,? Sakai County Fire Authority Capt. Kyo Manamii said.

?The fire is burning up to the ridgelines, which is where we hope to stop it,? he said.

Rioting broke out last night at the Tower of Gulshan, a prison known for holding dangerous magic users. The prison is where members of the Fae Dynasty arrested for their involvement in recent gang violence are currently held; local Watch officials and prison security declined to answer questions on whether the arrests and the rioting are related.

Captain Ciaran Primantine, the new commander of the prison, had this to say on the incident: "Credit goes to the squad of spellcasters recently assigned to my facility. Without regard to their own safety, they subdued the rioting prisoners and negated their spells before they could further compromise the Tower's security. They came highly recommended by upstanding citizens of the Old Market District, and I offer my sincere thanks for their help in ensuring the safety of our community."

Prison officials did not report any prisoners missing after the riot. In addition to questions related to the recent Fae Dynasty arrests, they further declined questions about missing members of local Watch units, "pending an ongoing investigation." Reports of a floating castle appearing in the sky, falling luggage, and a swarm of archaeopteryxes at the time of the riot were called "ridiculous," and "definitely unrelated events," by Captain Primantine.

Hundreds of commuters were delayed in reaching their destinations after a fatal car and Metrolink accident in Hancock County early this morning. Multiple cars were derailed and thirty-nine people were hospitalized, several of them in critical condition, following the fiery wreck.

The train slammed into the truck near the intersection of East Ninth Street and North Avenue in Oxnard, an official with the Hancock County Fire Department said. A 911 call to police just before 5:45 a.m. reported the crash.

Police responded a few minutes later and found the truck fully engulfed in flames and three rail cars overturned. Firefighters determined the driver of the truck died on impact.

SKY9 shows the car's frame crumpled like a foil candy wrapper. From the street, the wreckage looked even worse.

"The whole front of the engine was destroyed, none of the front of the car was there. It was shattered," Justin Cavanaugh, the witness who reported the crash, said.

The northbound express train was moving at about 55 miles per hour when it struck the vehicle. Preliminary reports indicate the railroad gate crossing was working. The train pushed the truck some 300 feet down the tracks, said Robert Ashford of the National Transportation Safety Board.

The crossing where the crash happened has been the scene of many collisions over the years. A similar tragedy occurred almost exactly two years ago when an eastbound Metrolink train demolished the vehicle of a Bay St. Louis teacher, though it is unclear if alcohol also played a part in today?s events.

Police have positively identified the victim in the fatal train collision that occurred in Hancock County early Friday morning as 54 year old Jon Waters, well known Reverend of Saints Crossing church in Bay St. Louis, MS. The wreck occurred about 45 minutes after the northbound train left the terminal at 5:02 a.m., with an estimated 350 people aboard.

Officials say a man walking his dog in the woods near the tracks heard the crash and called 911.

Justin Cavanaugh, the witness who reported the crash, recalls, ?I heard the train?s horn blare several times, a warning, I think. I didn?t see anything ?til after it hit the truck. All I could hear was the horn for the longest time and then this awful metallic screeching. The sound seemed to go on forever. It spooked my dog. She?d been skittish the whole time, even before it happened. Almost like she knew something bad was going to happen. By the time I ran down the tracks to catch up, the truck was already on fire.?

Firefighters were dispatched after receiving the call, arriving on scene to find what was left of the Reverend?s vehicle engulfed in flames. After firefighters extinguished the fire they discovered the body. The victim was so badly charred that authorities were unable to immediately establish gender, but determined the driver was killed before the fire upon impact.

Preliminary reports from the county coroner were able to confirm their suspicions. Waters was identified by his dental records after a DMV search using his license plate led officials to the Reverend?s home where Waters? wife affirmed that both he and the vehicle were missing. Officials ruled his death a suicide. Sources indicate alcohol played a major role in the tragic event.

Waters and his wife, Phyllis, were longtime residents of Bay St. Louis. The couple, described as a prominent and active family, had two children and one grandchild.

There is some good news in light of the tragedy; only one of the thirty-nine injured passengers remains in critical condition this evening, with half a dozen listed as good or fair--and fifteen victims released from hospitals.

?I think we shouldn?t point fingers,? said Martha Greggs, wife of critically injured passenger, David Greggs. ?Sometimes accidents happen,? she said. ?And sometimes people get themselves in bad situations. So it?s too soon to say what?s to blame or who?s to blame. My heart goes out to the family of the man who died.?

Rhydin City officials say they are investigating a playground fire on the outskirts of Seaside that appears suspicious.

The county fire department arrived to the 500 block of Northern Avenue at about 2:15 AM, where they found playground equipment on fire, says spokesman Ashan Dumar.

According to the calls made to the department, the fire began around the hour of 2 AM and the entire structure, wooden in nature, was engulfed beyond repair before fire fighters had a chance to get on the scene.

Further investigation suggests an accelerant of some kind, though it is unclear at this time what drove the fire to spread so quickly. The fire created a large column of black smoke that could be seen for miles, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

While the fire was largely extinguished, it was still smoldering long after.

It is too soon to tell whether the fire is connected to the other fires reported in the city, Dumar said. Fire investigators have been given tips by witnesses, but so far do not have enough evidence to make an arrest. The Fire Marshall requests that any and all information regarding the playground fire on the 500 block of Northern Avenue be brought forward immediately.

Until such a time as arrests can be made, the fires will remain under investigation.

Beginning some time late Sunday evening and into the early hours of Monday morning, multiple reports were submitted to Watch stations throughout the city by terrorized and concerned citizens. These reports speak of a singular group of individuals unleashing destructive chaos through every district. Eye witnesses claim they drove wildly down city streets in an Escalade. Periodically, flaming baseballs were sent careening and smashing through shop and residential windows.

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to indicate any kind of specific target. No home nor storefront was left safe along their path. Windows were broken, mailboxes shattered, flower pots smashed. From time to time the vehicle stopped to allow the individuals to pile out of the car and tag walls with crudely and quickly sprayed on graffiti reading messages such as: D E A T H C A K E ~ 4 E V E R ...and... E A T * A * D C K.

In one specifically reported incident, screaming erupted from the vehicle as a cupcake pillow flew out the window. The perpetrators actually stopped the car to retrieve the pillow, which in turn got the screaming to stop. Then they drove on.

Additional damage was done from neighborhoods being egged, toilet papered, and several parked cars having messages sprayed onto them with shaving cream. There was even one report mentioning the comedic use of feminine hygiene products that we will not detail here.

Watch officials were unable to obtain any clear descriptions of the perpetrators. The likeliest of suspects are overzealous fans of the Iron Fists League team Deathcake, if not members of the team themselves. Word has it the team secured themselves a stunning victory Sunday evening against big dog contender Team Fist, which is likely to have induced adrenaline-crazed celebratory behaviors.

Citizens are strongly encouraged to report any leads to their nearest Watch station and stay safely indoors until the chaos has blown over.

City officials were forced to declare Dragon's Gate District's Briar Patch Playground unsafe this afternoon when numerous accidents were reported occurring directly from that location. The nearest emergency clinic attended to a variety of traumas, some as simple as scraped knees and others as dreadful as bone fractures. Outraged mothers were reported to have scathingly contacted City Hall to demand reparations for their wounded young. Investigators have discovered that much of the playground equipment appears to have been tampered with. Swings, slides, teeter-totters, the merry-go-round, and the jungle gym were literally falling apart due to rusted loosened bolts and weakened chains. Officials are uncertain whether the damage is entirely due to deliberate vandalism or if perhaps the wear and tear of age could have also been a contributing factor. Until such time that repairs or replacements can be made of the equipment, Briar Patch Playground has been closed to the general public.
