This cave was suitable.

It was smaller than the last, without fresh water to run through it. But it was suitable.

It had no reminders of silk, no comfort of wooden walls, nothing that reminded her of either mistakes.

Just rocks. Solid stone. A place in the dust where her body lay, flat out and eyes wide but unseeing.

She did not sleep, this creature of bladed angles. But perhaps she dreamed.

"Are you so afraid to break it..."

"Where is he?"

"Simplified? Ye are worth keeping as mine own."

"Nau. You cannot have me."

The shuddering of her chest in breath taken in at different pace than all the others signified she awoke, consciousness hurtling through the tangled mess of memories.

When the drow arose from the dirt, there was only one name upon her lips and it was no god, no friend, no recent face, but the name of a man who had dared.

It was time for her gather all her pieces.
