I'm sure you have questions. Let's start with the basics.
Who can play?
You can! Everybody can! Love me, hate me, loathe me, worship me... I place no restrictions on who can and cannot participate in this story.
What is "The Game"?
"The Game" is a site-wide interactive story. The game, on the other hand, is chess.
Where does "The Game" take place?
This story takes place in the Red Dragon Inn setting.
When does "The Game" take place?
It takes place right now. In this moment. From the start of the very first post in the thread until all together we come to some kind of reasonable conclusion. This story could quite possibly continue indefinitely, depending on how well everybody gets along with it.
How do I particpate?
Okay. This is where I have to lay down some rules, I guess.
#1: Have your character notice the set up board as described in the thread. This can be done in live play or you can just write about it. It doesn't really matter.
#2: Have your character interact with the board in some way. There are no restrictions or limitations. Your character can actually move a piece according to the rules of chess. Or your character can put a piece any random place, including hiding them in a cupboard. Your character could even pick up the whole table and chuck all the pieces in the fire. I don't care. So long as you do #3.
#3: WRITE ABOUT IT AND POST IT TO THE THREAD.
#4: Read how other characters react, interact, and puzzle over "The Game."
#5: Have fun.
Why?
Because . . . why not?
If you have any further questions regarding "The Game," please do not hesitate to ask them here. This thread is specifically designed to act as the rules, more or less, and for you all to discuss any hang-ups that might unexpectedly occur in the course of creating together.
There is one other thing you should know.
My character, the one starting it all, is gifted with a psychic power known as psychometry. By participating in this game, you are agreeing to allow my character some extra insight into your character, where specifically related to the interaction of the game and its pieces. Don't worry. He's not going to be able to determine that your character is in fact the long lost princess of Gerblandia just by touching the same piece she did an hour ago. He might, however, be able to recognize your character's face the next time they pass each other in the same room at the same time and know that she was the last person to capture the queen with the bishop. For example.
That's it! If confusion or complications arise, we'll discuss it here. Until then, enjoy!
