Topic: They Fall like Rubies

Sulissurn

OVERVIEW:
Several years ago on AOL I began a SL involving an uncut ruby. Roughly around 2004 or 2005.

This ruby is the ill-formed and untouched red gem placed within the remade mithril claws which the character Ayreg forged for Suliss' nearing two years ago.

She found the gem within the bodies of slain foes--which at one point in time was the House she was born into within the Underdark. It was, if one could say so, almost as if the gem chose her.

Though the SL has been woefully slow going, the gem is slowly showing itself in being far more valuable than anyone thought. Here are some of the threads leading into the epic-slow reveal of what's going on:

SL THREADS
The Ruby Choosing Suliss'urn can be found in the last posts in this thread, here: T'larryo Sirnnh
(I'm sorry, I've no idea how to link to the specific post in the thread. It is the 9th post down, titled "Glimmer.")
The official tale starts here: The Brazen Wench
While a stranger appears here: He Knew he was Gonna Dig This
And a goddess manifests here: The Temple
A missing presence is noted: Divine Gossip
The first death. This is Only The Beginning
New clues arise in a meeting found here: To Do What Must be Done
Why are other drow hunting down those who know Suliss?: Levelling the playing field
Meddling gods everywhere and not a drop to drink: A Silver Smile
The story truly begins. The Brazen Wench II ((Open to all interested in this SL))

OOC INFO:
These threads are all part of the same story line should you like to read.

This Story Line is now officially open and seeking players. You may reply to the Brazen Wench II thread IC to be included, if you have any questions please Send me a PM or a message.

I will also be trying to work in aspects of it from time to time within the RDI flash chat, with Suliss' and any interested parties. You are, as always, welcome to join in.

I have no doubt taken creative license with drow, their religion, D&D races, Gods & Goddess of Faerun, and/or their behavior. This SL may have aspects within it that aren't entirely original as it is intensely difficult these days to be 100% original with the quality and quantity of great fantasy writing out there. Please be aware and assured that this story is NOT being copied or plagiarized, it did come from my head. Any similarities to other SL's or stories is coincidence.

If I am incorrect in any detail, please be aware that while I will give a nod to D&D and various lore, I may not follow them 100% and will use my own creativity to work some things out. (Such as the fact in this SL, certain Faerun gods still exist) I apologize if that upsets someone, but I do it in the name of fun. :D

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to PM, IM if you see me in the room or send me a shout out OOCly here on the boards. Thanks!

Hope you enjoy!

SL SUMMARY
The Ruby, what is it?
Please remember that everything you read below and above is OOC information and should NOT be used IC at any time, unless otherwise stated and/or is used logically. Thank you.

The Ruby itself in an unpolished, against-the-rules attempt by one of the Gods of Faerun with too much time and boredom on his hands--to create his own child. To create life. Without a partner...

Obviously, not only is this against the 'rules,' per se--but it should not be possible without certain circumstances being fulfilled.

The magic went entirely awry; it did not create a godling per se, but the conciousness of one trapped in the form of an uncut, unpolished, dull looking ruby.

Where is the Ruby right now?
Set by Jodiah Ayreg into the palm of Suliss'urns claw weapon.

What is the Ruby's Power?
The Ruby has the same powers one would expect from a Godling--which is to say, enough so that the entire populace of any small planet ought to worry should the Ruby get a particular whim.

What's preventing the Ruby then, from laying waste to the entirely of Rhy'din?
Well, for one, it does not want to. Better yet, the Ruby does have the sentience and behaviors of a child. A young child with little care or worry about the bigger picture and only interest in those closest to his or her. For reasons inexplicable, the Ruby chose Suliss'urn as it's owner after choosing drow in particular, passed several owners and finally landed before Suliss'urn.

Also, the Ruby, for all intents and purposes is yet too young to fully 'awaken' to all it can be, can become, do, and so on.

Essentially, it is a stockpile of immense power that could be easily influenced should it fall into the wrong hands.

So why does everyone (fellow Faerun Gods, Lloth, the new Temple of Lloth in Rhydin, Drow, etc) want it again?
Because the Ruby is generally a baby-god-battery of slumbering power, anyone who could get their hands on the Ruby itself will own an artifact, a Godling, of immense power, that can easily be manipulated.

Seriously. What drow in their right mind would turn this down?

The Underdark Matrons want the Ruby for themselves, and thus, send occasional hunting parties to the surface when they think they can get away with it.

The Spider Queen wants it to power her crossing. She can manifest within Rhydin, but only for moments, an hour or two. Her powers here are severely diminished. To help her cause, she has frenzied her worshipers here on the surface, serving her in her secret (for now) temple--sending out drow to scout out those who know Suliss' to do whatever they must to glean information on the Ruby's where-abouts (aka: Suliss'urn's where abouts.) Should Lloth get her hands on the ruby, she would use it to permanently settle herself firmly within Rhydin and establish a new world order of dark surface elves to subjugate the humans and bring the entirely of Rhydin itself under her dark fist.

Why do the other Gods want it?
Mystra, Eilistraee and the Gods of Faerun want the gem to be destroyed by its creator's hand, to thus ensure Lloth's plans will never come into fruition and bring balance back to the gaping hole the Ruby's birth, created.

Why won't the creator of the Ruby just destroy it then?
It is his child. His creation. He could no more destroy it than any other person, God, godling or not.

So...why doesn't Suliss'urn just blow people up with her mind lasers and god-ruby, again?
Because she doesn't know. She has absolutely no idea. All Suliss'urn knows is that the Gods wish her to give the Ruby to them. The Ruby subtly influences Suliss'urn's instinct to feel uneasy; distrustful of the Gods reasoning. A creature of instinct, Suliss'urn would rather listen to her 'gut'. She is only, just now, beginning to suspect something more with the news and rumors of a Temple being formed here in Rhydin.

Even though the Ruby is influencing Suliss'urn subtly, changing her mannerisms bit by bit (some might say, plugging the holes of her insanity and healing her) she's oblivious.

How will I get involved?
Any way your imagination can think it. There is an open thread going on in this forum titled The Brazen Wench II. You could simply have your character show up there, or you could create your own thread within this forum, Paint it Black, writing how your character becomes involved with the SL.

Or you could simply participate within the room during the times the SL seems to be played out!

Where's this SL going?
The ultimate goal is to gather a "party" of people and having the Ultimate written Temple Raid known to rp-kind, with explosions, and killing, and fighting, and traps, and puzzles, and kick ass scenes written by YOU!

Hopefully with the result either being: Lloth getting her hands on it, and creating a permanent hold for herself here in Rhydin, have the gem destroyed on the altar at the hands of the gods, returning it to it's creator and/or gods of Faerun, or ....perhaps an unforeseen ending thanks to the wonderful creativity of people like YOU who participate.

When's it going to go down? Omg, I have no time!?
No worries. This is a SL that I have been setting up for two years. It will be slow going. If you're looking to have a post to respond to, and post every day, or several times a day--this might not be a SL for you. Because I want to include EVERY ONE INTERESTED in playing posting may be very slow or very fast or not at all, depending. The pacing and posting will be left to the players so that EVERYONE can play a part.

What will my character notice?
An influx of drow--more so than usual.
An influx of drow fighting; either bodies, or blood, or subtle signs of it along back alleys and at night.
A strange increase in crime against light or surface elves
Disappearing supplies, such as and never limited to: food, cattle, cloth, magical artifacts, gold (anything that can support large amounts of people that, instead of working to earn--can be stolen :D)
Just remember: unless your character is a worshipper of Lloth and working for or in the temple, your character is a follower of Eilistraee, your character is part of or going to be part of the SL, awareness of the new Temple of Lloth should not be commonplace.

A FINAL NOTE
Please, please, please remember--I would like to build this SL up. Your character shouldn't be able to sense much of anything about the Ruby due to the gem dulling it's power and taking precautions to seem like just another gem. Characters of course are welcome to notice that it's a bit odd a drow would carry an unpolished, uncut Ruby about in the palm of her weapon.

OOC information should not be used IC unless a very IC logical reason can be used to explain it.

And the biggest: respect your fellow players :)

The Brazen Wench II is open to any and all interested in joining.

Essentially, the thread is an open "casting call" (you post there and I consider you in or interested, is what I mean :p) for those interested in becoming part of the SL. A SL which will, hopefully, bring a classical adventure-party feel with some epic proportions involving temples, gods, death and some stellar writing from all of you interested in joining.

If you are interested in writing with the They Fall Like Rubies SL, please join in.

Thanks.
