It really wasn't that much of a thing. I mean, a box, what's a box, right? But Dirk had been to the mall and the market place and he just couldn't find the right gift for Noelle. She was the mother of his children and he wanted to get her something for mother's day. Sure things hadn't worked out between them, but he held no animosity for her. And he counted himself lucky that she held none for him either.

Anyway, he finally found a gift and had it wrapped up with bubble wrap, a box and pink paper with a pink bow. He knew she loved that color. The clerk smiled at Dirk and told him what a lucky wife he must have. He just smiled back and let her think what she wanted. Was none of her business anyway.

That afternoon, as he was going to talk to Chloe about calling mom, he stopped by the guesthouse that Chloe and Noelle were sharing. He knocked, but there was no answer to the door. A slight shrug of his shoulders, they were probably out celebrating lunch or something. He left the box by the door with the little note attached.

His hands plunged then into his hoodie pocket and he sighs softly. Turning back to the house, he walks casually, enjoying the sunshine.

The note simply said. "To the best mother of the most beautiful children. Thank you, Noelle. Happy Mother's Day. Love, Dirk"

And inside of the box;

In the living room, kitchen, the bedroom that had become a nursery and in their own bedroom, Doug had a bit of surprise himself for Noelle. When he heard Dirk open the screen door to knock on the door he had ran out the back, thinking that Noelle and Chloe had come back from the spa.

Floating in each room was this:
