Ice Breaker
Meeting Amber
A few paces off the beaten path through the lush foliage of the glen left along a small trail of hazy white flakes, left sitting on leaves and bushes, frost patterns in the shape of hand prints along tree lines leading off to a small pond, oddly frozen in the middle of autumn. Obscured from the surroundings by it's oddity and yet, glistening. Easily noticeable. Humming a soft tune to herself as she moved, a girl skid across the surface of the ice on her bare feet, sliding along in circles. In nothing more than a pair of shorts and a camisole. Her pale skin gave off a somewhat certain vibrancy. A glow. As if the sunlight reflected off her bare flesh. Absentmindedly pulling her blonde hair up into a ponytail as she continued to weave and sway along with no effort at all.
It was those unique handprints that Kenna had followed. Having taken yet another trip to the Glen, her own little reprieve of the estranged creatures that frankly had her unhinged in the city. The Glen offered the least bit of familiarity of home, that little bit of normal in the hectic abnormality of Rhy'Din that she'd managed to hold onto. Her sandy light brown hair fell loose and straight around her shoulders, cascading down over the beige sweater-dress she was adorning. Beneath was a pair of simple black leggings, cropped to her calves and finished with a pair of brown Rocket Dog sneakers. Yes, she actually had a pair of those. Like always, her journal was clutched in her hand. A leather bound book that she'd had for years now. The pages were no longer neat, uneven and creased by years of use yet she still had pages yet to fill. But that notion had been disregarded as she came upon the lake, having followed those frosty hands to the pond. She stopped in her tracks not far off from the pond, staring at the girl who seemed perfectly comfortable skating on bare feet along the frigid ice..... In Autumn? It was far too early for that. It seemed even the Glen held little normalcy for the Djinn today. Yet, she stood there. Staring with wide, doe-like honeycomb orbs that had turned quickly into globes at the sight of the girl.
Though to the naked eye the blonde seemed completely aware of her newfound company. However in truth that were far from the case. For awhile she continued to her actions. Primarily just attempting to ignore. However the gawking caused distraction. It wasn't long before her focus dropped, and her body shortly after. Falling onto her rear end on the ice with a prompt thud, only to slide across the ice on her posterior. "Ugh. That's embarrassing. Hello stranger." she practically hissed with a sarcastic tone. pausing momentarily before scoffing. her entire demeanor instantly switching the moment her gaze snapped toward the stranger. "So, come to gawk or talk, sweetie? You look lost."
She was more studying the girl, trying to figure out the entire situation. How the pond could be frozen when it couldn't be any less than 40 degrees out, how the girl was skating across the ice with bare feet alone. Even how she looked somewhat majestic as she did it.... at least up until she busted her rear and Kenna flinched at the sight. She winced, even though it had nothing to do with her. She edged forward, moving quickly but trying to keep her balance as she moved toward the girl who'd fallen on her backside. She tossed the journal aside, caring for it yet it wasn't quite her concern at the moment. To the girl's words, "Sorry, sorry! I didn't mean to mess up your... ice... skating?" She seemed more quizzical on what the girl was actually doing, considering her lack of skates. "It's not every day you see a frozen pond this time of ye-... oof!" Rocket Dogs were not meant for walking on ice. Having been moving across the pond in aim to help the one fallen, her feet slipped out from under her and timber went the Djinn. She flopped much like a starfish and sprawled, only to let out a chiming laugh. "I should stick to my day job.." she grunted, rolling to her side and sat up, rubbing her elbow which had knocked into the ice.
Though the impact hadn't given her any trouble at all, it did the ice. And with the new associate's tumble not too long after.. Well it's pretty obvious. Scrambling up to her feet to help the girl out who'd fallen trying to help her, she managed out one step. The ice gave way, and there she was. Clawing her way out of the out of place frigid water. grumbling under her breath. It didn't take her much effort to escape the after however. Quickly sliding up onto the ice surface, only to then sprawl out beside the stranger. "Next time, you might wanna not step on ice in sneakers. There's a reason mine are sitting over there near the edge." turning her head to set her gaze on the girl. More so her elbow. "You hurt your elbow? Amber by the way. In case you were wondering." Apparently the blonde didn't care much for drawing out introductions.
It was the sound of cracking ice that had hit the Djinn's ears, eyes snapping wide again as she lifted her head to see the other blonde falling through the ice. "Crap!" She squawked, scooting back to stay clear of the broken ice but held her hand out, grabbing the girl's arm or whatever she could if able to help her out of the frigid water. With the girl out of the water and sprawled, she heaved out a sigh that puffed out her cheeks and flopped back. In such a short amount of time, it had turned out to be quite eventful. "I'll keep that in mind..." she snickered, "huh?... oh.. Yeah." She had forgotten about the twinge of pain crawling up her arm until it was mentioned and she curled her arm and extended it to stretch it out. No real harm done, just... "Hit the funny bone." She scrunched up her nose, feeling the pain quickly dulling as it subsided before looking over at her from her sprawled position on the ice, clearly not minding the cold. "Kenna," in return to Amber's introduction. "In case you were wondering," she smirked slightly, slowly bringing herself to a sitting position before looking around, as if contemplating standing up.
Watching her moments ardently words shuffled from her mouth the moment she'd caught wind that this Kenna girl might just attempt to stand. "I wouldn't. Army crawl. You can't fall if you aren't standing. Ah dammit!" Slamming her fists against the ice, or so it seemed anyway. "There goes my fucking smokes." Her gaze lowered to her lap. Towards the wet pack halfway stuck out of her shorts pocket. Raising herself up to her feet with complete ease on the ice, she paused. Extending her hand out to the young looking girl. "Or I can help you across. Assuming you don't mind cold hands." A quick glance of her eyes shooting down the girl before returning to meet Kenna's face. "But something tells me you don't mind cold things much. Am I right?" The corners of her lips twitched slightly. Hinting at the holding back of a grin flash.
She'd actually considered army crawling or some form of crawling at Amber's suggestion. Pausing in actually employing the use of such an action, she jumped slightly and turned her head toward the girl at the sound of her fists slamming into the ice. Raising her brows at her, she crinkled her nose at the mention of cigarettes. "Maybe it's your sign to quit," though she didn't sound genuine on it, portraying more of a joking demeanor to her words. When she stood to her feet and held out her hand, she didn't seem hesitant in taking the hand offered. She was a trusting one, that Djinn. To an extent. Nothing about Amber had her radar going off the hinges, considering the sight of the iced pond and the mention of cold hands. Being called out, she smiled lightly and tossed out a card of honesty. "No... never have. Parents always found it strange when I went out in shorts and a tank top in the middle of winter." She shrugged, pushing herself gingerly to her feet, almost falling on her rear a second time but found her balance. Though she probably looked like she was doing squats with her feet spread apart and her knees bent some until she shuffled her feet together to stand upright. Puffing her cheeks, she nodded. "I'm good, I'm good." Baby steps.
Amber listened quietly as Kenna responded to her. A smirk slipping across her features directly after the scoff emitted at the stilling of Kenna's lips. "I bet. If your parents are normal people. Don't worry, I won't judge you for being a polar bear in disguise. Flopping on frozen likes and the like." Her remark trailed along a short lapse of chuckling. "Are you parents normal? Cause you know, if they aren't. That's called hypocrisy." Making sure to take small steps along the ice to pace herself with Kenna. Making damn sure she didn't drag the girl across to the grass. Once escaping the confines of frozen water Amber simply plopped down as she released the girl's hand, beside the water. Elbows pressed on bent knees. Resting her chin on her hands. "So what's an innocent looking girl like you running around in the glen alone for? Don't you know wild animals eat people?"
