She sat at her desk and dug into her mail. A herculean effort really as she was suddenly swamped. But when she chanced upon one in particular...

The writing on the note was very careful, with the shape of someone who wasn't comfortable enough with the practice of writing to be easy with it.

Dear Ms. Shantalaine,

I heard about your business Gala and the charity Date Auction you are running with it. If you haven't decided what to donate the money from the Auction to, please think about contributing some of the proceeds to Second Chances. Lirssa and I have been setting up this alternative to orphanages and foster homes for several months and we are almost ready to open the doors. A donation would let us set up a better kitchen area and maybe even add one or two more bathrooms to the building. If you want more information on Second Chances, please feel free to ask Lirssa or me.

Thank you,
Kendall Ergin

Lirssa! Of course she?d help out Lirssa, the girl was the sweetest nicest thing one could find in RhyDin and she was Fiora?s first ever friend second only to a ruby red dragon named Vexi.

Of course, JhaiNein rightfully pointed out to a bubbly-excited Fiora that she couldn?t just go and change what she was donating the money to after she?d advertised the Gala?s charity function as a fundraiser for local businesses with a small portion going to the Local Orphan Fund. Scowling (and more than a little petulant) the realtor had slumped in her desk chair and grouchily thumbed through the rest of her correspondence.

And then she?d chanced upon the absolutely lovely Erinalle Dunbridge who (in quick decisive strokes of her pen) shortly and succinctly wrote:

I will gladly participate in the date rally.

I could also donate anything you'd like to raffle off. Money is no issue.

Let's talk soon?

E

Dumbfounded for a moment Fiora felt her heart race, could she really? Was this even possible? She shot a cerulean gaze to the office door in case JhaiNein was lurking near to burst her bubble again. And before she could be told ?no? she quickly penned a reply:

Dear Ms. Dunbridge,

I am so excited to hear that you'll be willing to participate in the event. I have a special request for someone in our particular financial position. A dear friend (Lirssa) and her friend (Kendell) are opening up a home for those in need that will be an alternative to orphanages and foster homes. It is designed to get them back on their feet. They are calling it Second Chances and are looking for a donation to set up a better kitchen area and maybe even add on a bathroom or two. I know that this is a hefty price to ask and thought perhaps you'd be able to donate toward this construction.

Please let me know and if ye don't mind I'd like to know what ye'd like written in yer bio for the Date Auction, otherwise I might have to make some stuff up and that could go a coupla different ways.

Thank ye again for yer time
Fiora Shantalaine

The response when it came had Fiora war-whooping in her office much to the chagrin of her quieter counterparts. Shilo took a moment to step away from his client and poke his head in her office door to inquire politely, ?My patient was wondering if everything was alright?? A subtle nudge if ever there was one.

?Everything?s glorious!? She spun about and hugged the ever-perfect Euriya. Only to pause in her celebration as Tasha Van Blaudin?s elegance slid through her parted doorway, ?Are we learning new cultural ways to express ourselves again??

Fiora blinked in confusion and then remembered her hour long ?training? session in which she practiced the appropriate noises one made at Hockey games. She?d gotten really good at catcalling, whistling, hooting, and even hollering appropriate messages like, ?Go back to FOOT LOCKER ye incompetent moron!? (Though she really was worried about a locker full of feet and wasn?t sure why the referees would want to go there...)

?Oh no!? She exclaimed happily and thrust Ms. Dunbridge?s response about in a flutter of parchment, ?She?s in! She?s in! She?s really gonna do it!?

?Do it?? Dr. Shilo prompted gently.

Fiora read aloud: ?I can give a...handsome amount toward the construction. I know Lirssa and I like her. I strongly believe she would be wonderful with a house like that. I also believe in ministering to those in RHydin that have less. I can pay the entire amount they need, plus anything else they would want. I am not hurting for money, and yet rarely if ever spend it.?

?Let?s hear it for the benefactor!? She did the Humpty. ?Aww do me baby, do the humpty hump, do the humpty hump!?

JhaiNein arrived at that moment and spared a momentary prayer that someone cut the power feed to Fiora?s newest addiction...VH1: Old Earth Favorites.

((Thank you to Kendell, Lirssa, Erinalle for all the letter writing, and my office mates for being fanfreakintastic!))
