Topic: Days of Solstice - Ravensheart bound

So it was upon them, the days of Solstice when the nights grew longer, the days shorter and the air freezing every breath in short lived puffs of smoke. The snow covered the ground around the school with a light dusting from the night before. Though it would melt later in the day, it was still promising more as the days moved on. It was the time of Solstice, the time of year to give respects to one another in the form of gifts. So in the days to come, celebration in kind was due.

Not much had been decorated yet, save for a few mistletoe placed in a few key doorways here and there, luring those to pause with the touch of admiration formed on the lips with a kiss.....

A large evergreen tree had been brought in and placed in the great Ball room Sha'uri recognized as one so much like one from Ravensheart Castle. The doors she left wide open. And several beds were left with one present upon each pillow. The gifts were clearly marked: Happy Solstice Season! Now, Open me up or I'll go away! With much love, Sha'uri.

Tina got a bag of holding, Lyndra a set of emerald butterfly earrings and matching brooch, Melody a guitar and Briari a bone dagger. Oh, and of course, Sabre a toy mouse and a simple silvery colored rubber ball for her newest addition (self gift) ChiChi the ferret.

ChiChi found his gift early and Sha'uri was off roaming the halls trying to find hers........

"ChiChi?! Come on sweety... where's my little thief."

He also had one of her silver necklace chains. She could hear it tinking against the floor somehwere down the hallways in the distance.

"ChiChi!"

:: Yawning as she woke up she turned to her side when her eyes caught a gift?!,,sitting up she read the card and beamed carefully opening the package to find a bag of holding!...she read about these and off she went to try it out as she tried to stuff it with school supplies::

The Headmaster found the brightly colored package and opened it. He smirked at the blade and carefully put it away in a velvet lined case.

Shauri

Round a corner, she dove after the little ferret and slid along the polished floor and for all of about two seconds, she had a hold of the little one. But like a wet seed squished between fingers, ChiChi shot out of her grasp and onto the floor, scurrying away down a heating duct.

"Oh no... ChiChi!!!!!!!!!"

Her voice echoed down the hallway and she cringed knowing everyone just heard that.

Sigh. She began to tap her fingers along the floor with rythmic cues, trying to plan her next move.

Several days had passed. Each day Sha'uri left gifts, some practical, some quizzical, others for commical or for wishfulls ... something was always given. Only two days remained until the day of Solstice.

It was evening and she had finally bought a bunch of decorations. She was in the Ballroom levitated up in the air as she moved round the tree to put the lights on it. The kitten, Sabre, and the ferret, ChiChi, were down below the tree; Sabre was chasing a strand of tinsel stuck to the ferret's foot while ChiChi tried in vain to pick up an oversized ornament that only repeatedly rolled away from him.

A magical message was sent to each of the School's occupants,

"Will you come help me decorate the tree?"

Shauri

One way or another, the Tree had been decorated and gifts for everyone at Ravensheart School had been gently laid beneath wrapped with love and care. Sha'uri had been so busy buying and wrapping that she hadn't realized she wrapped her own bonzai up and gave Bri two instead. By then it was too late, though it was a good laugh among other things she'd gotten the Headmaster. She really wanted to see the look on his face.. for those as well as others.

There was one gift in particular that was anything but a laugh, though ordinary it looked under the scrutiny of even the most talented eye. Not even magic could be detected from it. The elven sword was well crafted but that was about all anyone else would ever know of it .. anyone except Sha'uri and Bri. It was a special sword crafted by her own hand, formed upon the forge of her soul. For Briarius, the sword brimmed with magick. Bri would know it's power instinctually, that is if he accepted it at all.

As for Tina, the girl was doted upon with clothes, toys and all sorts of things cute and cuddly. Sha'uri knew the girl was growing and knew this would be the last time she'd probably be able to shower gifts of this kind upon her. Next time the girl would probably rival clothing of Sha'uri's own stature.

It was the morning of Solstice and Sha'uri waited hoping to see their faces as they opened up the gifts. Breakfast had been placed in the ball room on a table next to the tree. She sipped upon her tea as she sat by the window, gazing up where the twinkle of the satelite shimmered in the sky. Alex had finally come through this morning. The call was a welcome bit of news as trading between the worlds would someday commence soon... Her mind whirrled with the possibilities. She couldn't wait to use it later that day and have Solstice Dinner with the rest of the family. She hoped Bri and Tina would come along, too.

Shauri

Time moved on and Sha'uri had sat there waiting, staring out of the window.

"Mistress Sha'uri? Is there anything I can get you?"

Lyndra's sultry voice prompted from across the room.

Sha'uri turned her gentle visage to peer at the cook with mirth.

"Yeah, actually... if you would.. see if you can go wake up the sleeping beauties from their slumber?"

Lyndra nodded, seeming a bit sad about something.
"Aye... that I will do. The food is getting cold. Please, eat something before it does."

"I promise... will do."

Lyndra left the Mistress and moved to the rooms of Tina, Melody... and last, but not least, Briari .......... banging on the doors quite loudly, calling out her message and then dashing off......

"Merry Solstice! Time to get up! Breakfast is gettin cold in the ball room and yer presents are gettin old! Last one there has to do the dishes!"

Briarius

The Headmaster does not answer from his room. Instead, he enters the front hall from outside. He bears several large packages and sacks.

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-15 06:28 EST
She was about to take a sip when the quizzical grin formed at Briari's entrance. Sha'uri quickly set down her cup and moved to help him with all those packages.

"And I thought I over did it." she giggled. "Merry Solstice, Bri."

She slowly tried to take some of the packages, realizing his arms were quite full and didn't want to make them tumble. However, she abruptly paused for just a brief moment catching his gaze before glancing up to make sure this wasn't one of those spots Lyndra or Melody had put the mistletoe...

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-15 19:19 EST
"Happy Solstice. These are just a few things for dinner this evening."

He smirked

"I got presents a while back"

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-15 19:39 EST
It was, and she quickly glanced away from it, that little plant hung all over the place. She quickly stuck a small bit of her tongue out at him.

"So what's for dinner?"

Taking some of the packages with her, she slowly stepped aside and waited to follow him, presumably to the kitchen.

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-15 19:53 EST
He walks with her to the kitchen.

"Well...I pulled a few favors and managed to obtain a dinner that no one on RhyDin would ever had the chance to see. These are all meats, fruits, and vegetables from Kadorasil. I managed to track down all of the places where Kadorasil made contact and found that several of the things I was looking for were readily availible. The favors I pulled were the local butcher and grocer to prepare said items to my specifications."

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-15 20:11 EST
She nearly dropped the packages as she stopped abruptly though she did manage to keep from spilling the food all over. She stared at his back, mouth gaping open.

"I thought Kadorasil was closed..."

She was confused, though a thought occured to her. A smile tugged at her lips.

"Bri, were you time traveling?"

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-15 21:28 EST
The Headmaster chuckled

"Not at all. In Kadorasil's Golden Age, we used portals as if they were walking across the street. I simply found some of the places these portals went and was able to find the vegetation that was planted there centuries ago along with some of the livestock brought across"

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-16 17:35 EST
Secretly relieved by his answer, she smiled a smile that reflected the warmth growing in her heart. For some reason, she'd forgotten all about Dinner at the Citadel...

She set down the packages carefully onto the kitchen table.

"Good. I'm glad you found these. It'll be like having a little piece of home for you, and something new for the rest of us. Speaking of Portals... would it be all right with you if I put one or two up between here and places in Exodii? It would be one general one to Exodii City, One to the Citadel and a private one for my use only."

Pause.

"That's three isn't it."

Grin.

"Anyway, they'd strictly be magical ones that either you or I could control. Even my private one.... Would that be all right with you?"

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-16 22:28 EST
The Headmaster begins preparing all of the food, letting Lyndra have a real holiday.

"I see no problem with the portals as long as I can shut them down"

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-18 15:53 EST
She understood his phobia about other places, or thought she did.

"All right, as long as you don't have plans to trap me here. Otherwise, I might start to think you're Erique... and then I'd have to hurt you... take away a few of your presents because you'd been a bad boy... or just let you really have them..."

Grin. A wide grin formed with a wink as she made light of it, even playfully tickle pinched his side but only once before she stopped to open her arms and just hugged him.

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-21 20:12 EST
A brief moment passed as he stiffened, unable to process what she meant, but then he relaxed and returned the hug.

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-22 17:22 EST
The imp that she was couldn't help but snicker at his stiffness. It was a brief but very heartfelt hug she gave him before she pulled away.

"I wonder what happened to Lyndra and Tina? I hope they're not getting into the presents already. I hope I marked all those right, some of them are for Luke, Anne, Alex, Shati and .. oh, Luke's friend.. ."

Pause, long and heavily quiet. She sucked in her breath and her eyes flashed wide with remorse.

"Oh no! Oh, Bri I feel terrible! I forgot we're suppose to go to Exodii for Solstice dinner."

Embarassed, she bit her lip, glanced to the side at Bri with a forlorn expression. He was working so hard on Dinner. She had no clue if he'd even gotten enough to invite them but..

"Uh... Bri? er... what should we do here? invite them over or.. take dinner with us there?"

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-22 22:16 EST
"You could invite them over...I was wondering where all this food was going to go"

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-23 14:52 EST
"Perfect!"

She hugged him largely and without even thinking, kissed him full on the lips, ever so brief that it was. Then she skipped off out of the kitchen and up the stairs to her room to converse with her son via the communication device.

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-28 19:01 EST
The Headmaster stood there dumbfounded for a moment and went on to his prepartations.

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-29 18:55 EST
Lyndra came downstairs after seeing Sha'uri skip to her room. The cook gave her an odd look, but found herself coming into the kitchen.

"Oi now... what smells so good? I didn't know ye could cook."

Her eyes lit up and she moved closer to see what the Headmaster was doing at the sink. A wide smile formed and she nonchallantly picked up a stray piece of mistletoe and dangled it over.

"Merry Solstice, Master Briarius!"

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-29 19:24 EST
The Headmaster chuckled.

"Perhaps I overestimated eternity."

He leaned over and moved to kiss Lyndra politely on the cheek.

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-30 16:40 EST
Lyndra's jaw dropped a bit and she pulled back, thwarting the polite attempt.

"Eh? What's that? That wasn't going to be a kiss ..."

She looked at him as if he were talking jibberish and dangled the mistletoe again.

"See, according to the rules, that would've been a peck, not a kiss. Don't ye know the difference? Tradition states a kiss, not a peck. I swear I brushed my teeth!"

That delicate brow lifted, daring him to get it right or have the mistletoe thrown at him. And what was that emerald twinkle in her eyes?

Briarius

Date: 2007-01-30 18:46 EST
"Very well"

The Headmaster kissed Lyndra chastely on the lips.

Shauri

Date: 2007-01-31 14:55 EST
For what was given, was returned in kind thoughtfully as Lyndra closed her eyes and pressed her lips to Briari's. A moment was spared to the task and she opened her eyes. Whatever she thought it was going to be, it wasn't.

She wasnt' frowning though, but rather contemplating the experience almost as if she were testing a portion of her cooking for flavor. A mirthful smile spread along her full lips, showing dimples in her cheeks.

"A bit flat there, dear. Been out of practice? Maybe next time, I would suggest a little salsa for added flavor... or a bit of honey depending on the desired outcome. Either way, and with all respect, ye need to get out more, sir."

She leaned in and kissed his cheek as a friend would do another.

"Merry Solstice, Briari. And thank ye for making the dinner. It smells wonderful, actually, and I do appreciate the day off. Oh, by the way, I've gotten ye a present. If ye can break away from the kitchen.. It's in by the tree. I think Sha'uri has been wanting to do that, give out presents...."

Shifting her head, indicating the direction, she turned round to leave, heading that way.

Briarius

Date: 2007-02-01 07:41 EST
The Headmaster looked slightly vexed.

"Since my wife died, I haven't had the interest in 'getting out more'. It's why I have enjoyed my time at the school. It keeps me distracted."

He casts a few spells and some spirits appear to take care of the menial cooking tasks.

"Thank you my friends. I will help grant any request of you when I return."

With that, he headed toward the ballroom.

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-02 15:31 EST
Lyndra paused to wait in the doorway of the kitchen until he caught up so she could walk with him. She had no idea what came over her in there other then she'd felt very compelled to do that. Hazel hues looked sideways to him as they walked to the ballroom.

"I am genuinely sorry, Master Briarius." her words were slow at first. "I didn't know ye had lost a wife."

There were a lot of things she didn't know and she regretted her words from the kitchen. She didn't even know her own last name. She had no past, no recollection of childhood. It was as if she had lost her memory and suddenly woke up at the school, knowing only how to cook.

It was on the tip of her tongue to admit as much to him as she paused in the doorway of the ballroom, reaching out to touch his arm. She was oblivious to the mistletoe hanging above.

"Master Briarius? Am I...? Uh, How did we ... I mean, when did we ... How long have I been hired here?"

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-03 11:08 EST
After her conversation with Alex, Sha'uri came bounding down the stairs to enter the kitchen again. She was a bit surprised to see Briari gone and the room occupied by several spirits.. cooking dinner noless. A quizzical grin formed as she walked closer to the spirits for a closer inspection.

Most she didn't recognize, but there were a few that seemed familiar as if at some point in time she had seen them in life. The grin was lost as she watched them going through the motions of their tasks like summoned zombies ... puppets on a string. They didn't seem angry for being there, but there was a dullness, a sadness she couldn't explain in them. Perhaps it had something to do with the one who summoned them....

This was supposed to be Solstice time... a time of giving, sharing, laughing and loving. She went to each of the spirits and touched them on the arm or shoulder, or just took hold of their hand long enough to get them to look at her as she smiled warmly to them and wished them individually a Happy Solstice, hoping her love of life, beauty, magic and song would rub off on them, uplifting them.

"Stay when you are free of your tasks and be merry with us as my guests. The invitation is open as my thanks to you for being here."

Briarius

Date: 2007-02-04 22:27 EST
He stopped and looked at her.

"You have been here ever since I became Headmaster...oh..."

Realization filled his visage.

"Mistress Lyndra...I don't know how to say this..."

He sighed and searched for the right words.

"I am guessing this is so that you may know more about your past?"

He smiled a bit and held out his hand palm up. An image of a woman appeared. It looked like Lyndra but with some subtle, but distinct differences.

"This is D'Shara Nightbloom Ravensheart...there are more names she kept tacking on, but that was the name I knew her by and that's what counts. She was the mother of my children, not to mention the mother of the Mistress Sha'uri. My children..."

Two smaller images appear, one either side of D'Shara's image. A boy and a girl.

"...these were my children. Alec and Larissia. They passed on after I was torn from RhyDin. D'Shara waited for my return, but eventually all hope seemed lost and she moved on."

The images pop out of existence one by one.

"The events of my accident and all of my misfortune to follow were concocted by my rival, Erique."

Another image appears. This one looks a lot like Briarius but much more aggressive.

"He eventually harvested the souls of all I cared for and implanted them into new bodies he created, for he had the power of the gods by this point. When I returned to RhyDin, he made certain I inherited this school which was entirely staffed by these creations. They held no memory of me but bore a very strict resemblence to the original person. It was to torture and haunt me. Eventually, he would use his powers to turn them all upon me so as to watch me suffer until he deigned to destroy me. Unfortunately for him, he could not find one soul...the soul of D'Shara, but he kept the body he made and placed a stray bit of life into it...and that is you. When Erique was defeated, the souls all had the choice to stay permanently bound to the bodies they were forced into or to pass on. Being a new soul entirely, this was your life."

The image of Erique darkened and vanished.

"I had wondered if the day would ever come that you would go seeking your past. I had hoped it would not as I did not want you to believe that you were truly nothing. We at the school want you to know that although you were not born, you do have a family."

He went to move through the door

"...and as long as I live, you will always have a family."

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-05 16:05 EST
"It was to torture and haunt me."

That sentence seemed to hit Lyndra and stick with her throughout the rest of Briari's explanation. She hadn't been born out of love, nor even lust, but created for a foul purpose. Was the sliver of life a part of the soul of Erique that gave life to her form? Wouldn't that make him her father?

The image of Erique was burned into her mind. His resemblance to Briari didn't go unnoticed. It was uncanny. Were they brothers? Twins? And the woman, D'Shara, was simply beautiful. There was no way she could ever compare to such beauty. How Erique thought she could was beyond her. Yet as Briari continued, she began to change her mind, that perhaps it was enough to torture and haunt him, even now.

Though Briari was being polite, she couldn't help but feel her presence was a constant reminder of the wife he lost and the beautiful children he no longer had.She didn't stop him as he moved to go through the door, rather let him go ahead of her so he couldn't see her wipe away her tears now forming. She managed a very quietly spoken "thank you..." to his back as he moved through the doorway.

Lyndra followed him into the ballroom and made a beeline for the tree keeping her visage hidden from Briari. She didn't have much to give. In fact, everyone got basically the same thing. She had made these, trying her hand at knitting, which had turned out not too bad for her first attempts. Everyone got a scarf and a matching pair of either gloves or mittens. Briari's was dark blue with a lighter blue trim. She picked up the box, making sure her tears were wiped away before she turned round to face him handing him the quaintly wrapped present.

"Merry Solstice, Master Brairius."

Briarius

Date: 2007-02-05 21:43 EST
He accepted the present with a smile. If he were uncomfortable, he hid it well.

"A scarf and gloves. Very thoughtful Mistress Lyndra. Here."

He handed her a small box which contained a vial.

"Considering the circumstances, I don't have to lie about it's contents. I was going to tell you it was a love potion or some silly nonsense, but in actuality it is something to finish you. You see, I noted that Erique never completed the soul in your body. This potion will do that and you will be a whole person. Mayhap you were created out of darkness, but you were completed by the light."

When he said this, he seemed to have a sort of confidence that none present would have ever seen. Though Shara would note that it seemed like the old Briarius...before he became what he was now.

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-06 18:05 EST
Lyndra took the offered gift, opening it to reveal the vial. But she was confused by his explanation. She sat down, trying to make sense of it all.

"I, don't understand."

Sha'uri was leaning against the door with her arms crossed.
"Neither do I."

She crossed the distance between them, obviously having heard the exchange. The fact that he seemed like the old confident Briarius her mother knew so well, didn't escape her memories left to her by her mother, Shara aka D'Shara aka Sharalis.

"Maybe you can explain this to me, Briari... how you think her soul isn't complete when I can look at her and see her complete? Eversmart completed her in the light. She's just ...."

She paused, biting her tongue from saying *not my mother*, reminding herself that she might be assuming too much. She really hadn't studied Lyndra's soul beyond seeing something that appeared to be a whole soul.

"What exactly is that potion supposed to do?"

Lyndra closed the box slowly and just listened.

Briarius

Date: 2007-02-08 07:20 EST
"Ah, I had thought that as well, but when you told me of Erique's work, I looked closer. To many detections of Mistress Lyndra's soul, it would appear whole and normal. It was meant to be this way as to not arouse suspicions. Upon more powerful divinations in conjunction with several other divinations, you will note an incongruence. Seeing as you can naturally see souls, I surmise you did not see it because of expectation. There is nothing outwardly noticable about Mistress Lyndra's soul, ergo, you would not bother to look at it twice. I ask you to do that now. In addition, I ask that you concurrently detect for magic, wickedness, righteousness, death, life, and the undead. In a typical living creature all of these auras mesh into one. You will note that in Mistress Lyndra, they float around one another. All the pieces are there, but not bound together. The potion will mesh these things together and bind her soul to her body, thus completing her."

He smiles very proudly.

"I will warn of one potential side effect. Mistress Lyndra, you may develop psionic or mystical abilities."

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-08 15:42 EST
He smiles very proudly.

Though he didn't move, Sha'uri could see the boyish bounce emanating from Briari's soul. She couldn't help but smile, too, as she shifted her gaze and studied Lyndra further.

"Why is it the simplest things that always seem to allude? Clever one..."

She walked slowly around the cook, flames flickered with sapphire hues where the pupils of her eyes were. All those things that Briari mentioned were being analyzed in depth between every pore of Lyndra's soul.

Lyndra warily glanced at Sha'uri as the Mistress moved round her. She could feel those sapphire eyes gaze at her very core; it unsettled her with a nervousness that made her feel as if she were going to split apart even more then what Briari had already described she was. She wanted to just pick up the vial and down the contents, pull herself together. But she waited and endured that soul searching stare.

Finally Sha'uri completed her circle and was once again beside Briari. She leaned a bit closer and kissed his cheek.
"That's what my mother loved about you so much."

Then she turned and moved to Lyndra, squatting down beside her.
"May I see the vial?"

Lyndra opened the box, allowing Sha'uri to take it.

Sha'uri studied the liquid with a grin, shifting a sidelong glance at Bri. Her words were silent, psionically nudging his mind.
~Love potion, eh? Sounds like you need to come clean about something.~

Her gaze went quickly back to Lyndra as the vial was placed into the Cook's hands.
"Briari is right. The danger of this existence if continued is that there are magics that can unbind and unmake you. The potion in here will change you into a permanent soul."

Lyndra thought about this a moment, her fingers nervously caressed the vial as she stared at it. She was like a pile of rocks claiming to be a wall and the vial was the mortar that would bind her into one.. so to speak. She understood the analogy this way.

Hazel green hues looked to the Headmaster while she was still caressing the vial. She took the top off, gave a *bottom's up* salute and downed the contents of the bottle. She closed her eyes and waited, not knowing what to expect happen if anything happened at all. Still, she braced herself and waited.

Briarius

Date: 2007-02-08 18:25 EST
The contents of the bottle tasted like an apple syrup and smelled of roses. True enough, the magicks began their work binding the various pieces of soul together. Lyndra glowed for a few moments and then was done. She felt whole.

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-09 16:26 EST
Lyndra slowly opened her eyes after the most warm sensation swirled through her. She felt a little dizzy, a bit giddy as she looked around. Everything seemed aglow, like the glistening snow on a sunny day. She licked her lips trying to savor that apple sweetness, the scent of roses still tickled her nose. Her gaze rested on Sha'uri and Briarius with a wide grin. Then she got up and hugged them both at the same time.

"Thank you." was all her overwhelmed heart could let her say.

Sha'uri hugged Lyndra briefly, then squeezed out of the hug to get Bri's presents. She set them down beside a chair, lining them up until the sword was the last one for him to open. Then she did the same with Lyndra's presents. She was like a kid, just couldn't wait as she sat down.

"Can we open all the presents now?"

The sound of a shuttle landing in the front was heard, followed by the front door opening and footsteps heading down the hall. It was a huge collection of brightly wrapped presents held together by long arms with long fingers and long legs with big feet to carry them. The face and midsection of the bearer was hidden, though his muffled voice was heard behind there somewhere. It was Alex and he sounded a little strained..

"Where do I put these?"

Briarius

Date: 2007-02-09 22:23 EST
"Anywhere is well"

The Headmaster summoned a spirit into being. It was odd to watch his summoning as it didn't seem like he was pulling a servant into existence, but rather calling an old friend and asking for a favor.

"Please help the young master with his load"

The spirit floated over and used it's abilities to help Alex carry the gifts.

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-11 20:01 EST
Lyndra watched Briari casting, though she didn't let go of him all the way. She'd been surprised at Alex's arrival and just didn't think to move..

Alex blinked as a hole in his stack of packages opened up for his viewing comfort. He was a bit wide eyed at first, seeing the spirit grin at him. Well, it seemed it was grinning at him. And with its help, he set the packages down. He even thanked the spirit.
"Thank you, and a Merry Solstice to you. Merry Solstice to you all..."

He kissed his mother's cheek, and glanced to Briari and Lyndra with a wink their direction.

"Hey, don't let me interrupt."

Sha'uri hugged her son and then moved to sort out presents, adding more to Briari's pile and to Lyndra's, making one for Alex too. But she couldn't stand it anymore. That one special thing she'd gotten for Briari, she was dying to see his reaction. She picked up the box containing the sword and set it first before the pile of presents for him to open. Then she moved to her own pile and began to open them up.

Briarius

Date: 2007-02-11 21:49 EST
The Headmaster looked confusedly towards Alex's comment.

He then moved himself to 'his' stack and waited and watched as everyone opened their gifts.

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-12 15:32 EST
Lyndra blushed at Alex's words and shifted away to her pile of presents. She opened one up to find a pair of butterfly earrings and matching necklace.

"Oh, thank ye Mistress Sha'uri. These are lovely."

Alex noticed the confusion on Briari's visage and motioned towards the presents his mother had been and was still lining up in piles. He'd meant about opening presents. He had to chuckle at his mother, she was muttering the names and dashing from one pile to the next like some excited school aged kid. Alex picked up one from his pile and opened it to find an ornate dragon goblet made of silver.
"Thanks, Mom."

Sha'uri noticed Bri not opening his and bounced on over to pick up the first package and hand it to him.
"Merry Solstice, Bri. Come on, open it up? Please? No fair waiting..."

And she moved back to her pile to pick one up. It was the one from Lyndra. She opened it up slowly, paying more attention to Briari then her own.
"Ah, scarf and gloves. I love this color... dark blue. Thanks Lyndra."

The Headmaster smirked and set to opening his gift...

...removing the ribbon with great care...

...making certain to not break it...

...carefully unfolding each individual corner of wrapping...

Sha'uri placed the scarf round her neck and set the gloves down on a small table beside her. Then she opened one of the gifts from Alex to find an eyebrow ring and a belly ring. The eyebrow one she understood, having mentioned it to Alex several weeks ago. But the belly ring?

"ERm.. Alex?"

Alex shifted his gaze from Lyndra, having just thanked her for his gift.
"Yes? Oh! yes, that's from Reese. He said you'd get the joke about the belly ring?"
Obviously, he was dying for an explanation. Grin.

The joke of it suddenly dawned on her, having been something from a few years back.
"Of all the things to remember. He must've received that medal from his father. Good for him! .... Eh, oh, yeah ..Um.. see, a few years back we had gotten on a tangent about belly rings. er.. never mind but it was harmless. So anyway, I swore I'd never wear one, and he conned me into agreeing that if he ever received a commendation from his father on anything ..... Well, I guess I lost."
She laughed.

Alex nodded. "That explains it. "
He left it at that and handed Lyndra a present from him.
Lyndra took the package and carefully opened it up to find a rather pretty webbed tiara made of silver. Hazel green hues went wide.
"Oh, Alex, this is too beautiful."

Sha'uri picked up a gift from Briari and opened that up.
"Aww.. wine and chocolate. Thanks Briari. I love chocolate!"

She noticed he was still opening his first one, having just started to unfold a corner. He was soOOOoo slow! Her eyes narrowed, playfully feigning anger, but never lost the mirth as she watched him unfold the corners of the package...one by one... by...

Well, she tried to be good. She picked up the other package he'd gotten her and moved over by him and sat down. And she had tried, tried to keep her mouth shut but the part of her that she inherated from her mother made her blurt it out with a giggle.
"For the love of... er.. Briari! Slower then a seven year itch! Will you hurry up? Gah! I'm dyin here!"

She opened hers quickly at first until her package was just as unwrapped as his. Still, she let him go first for the final unveiling though opened hers at about the same time...

He removed the blade and studied it. His eyes turned black as he used his magicks to analyze the energies around it.

"Remarkable. I haven't seen crafting this precise in centuries."

She pulled the long slender staff out of the wrapping and gazed over it, sapphire hues aglow with a flicker of flame as she analyzed the magic.

"Nice... Staff of Enchantment. I better be careful with this one. Thank you, Bri."

Her gaze shifted to Briari with a soft smile. She was actually beaming inside.

"You like?"

Briarius

"It is very nice, thought I know not what I will do with it."

Shauri

"You used to be pretty good with one of those. You might need it someday. I won't force it on you if you don't want it, though. You can't accept it lightly..."

Sha'uri placed a gentle hand upon his arm.

"It's okay, either way."

Briarius

"I can accept it as a gift can I not?"

Shauri

Date: 2007-02-23 21:05 EST
"Bri, it is a gift. Either you accept it all or you don't at all. There's no middle ground."

Sha'uri could tell Bri was hesitating, trying to half accept it without the whole of it. Was he afraid of it?

"If you need time time to think about it..."

Alex and Lyndra both raised their brows curiously as they looked to the other two. Lyndra was more curious while Alex found the conversation a bit more, odd.

What was so special about that sword? To Alex, it looked well crafted but quite ordinary. Still, there was no denying the look on his mother's visage. Anticipation.

"Very well. I will accept this blade and call it Norgham!"

As he says the blade's new name, it seems to slightly change in appearance. It almost seems he had always possesed that blade.

Her eyes flared with sapphire flame, skin flickered with a blue glow for just a brief moment as Bri spoke the name of the sword. It seemed her eyes were misty as they returned to their usual sapphire glow.

Bowing her head graciously, she accepted the name. It was in the ancient Elven tongue, rare as the language was. It was mostly used round the Kingdoms of Kalamar. She had read about the language during her studies. Norgham meant Shadow.

"A fitting name... Norgham."

The bond was set between them, akin to that of dragon and rider.... yet not as strong as that. Close. Carefully, she set down her staff and slowly leaned over to give Bri a heartfelt hug. His acceptance was the best present she'd gotten all day, or for a long time.

Alex leaned closer to Lyndra and whispered.
"I don't know about you, but I think I just missed something."

Lyndra grinned and just shrugged her shoulders. She had no idea how to even comment. It felt suddenly awkward in the room. That's when the question popped up.
"Want some plum pudding?"

"Sure..."

"Come on."
Lyndra took Alex by the hand and led him back out to the kitchen....

Lyndra

"Today has been a bit strange for me, Alex."

Lyndra commented after the two came into the kitchen. She pulled out the bowl of plum pudding and set it on the table.

"I just want ye to know that... um.. I know what I look like. I mean, Master Briarius told me about me today, of how I was created and I look like.. well, yer grandma."

It felt awkward for her, but she smiled anyway and took the bowls out of the cupboard.

"I can only assume ye know of it as well?"

She dished up the pudding and handed Alex one, complete with spoon. Then settled down in a chair with her bowl and asked the one question that now buzzed round her mind.

"If it's not too much of a strain, what can ye tell me of yer grandmother?"

Shauri

Alex quietly took this in, taking the bowl from her as she handed it to him. Though he understood her need to know things, he honestly didn't know how much he should tell her.

"I haven't seen my grandmother since I was a boy. Though, I remember her smile. It was contageous. Just like yours. She had a beautiful voice, sultry, soothing and I always loved to go to sleep listening to her tell stories. She had a tendancy to be fiesty, though, something I don't think I've seen in you yet. There's nothing wrong with that, though. She could be quite terrifying when she was angry..."

He took a bite of the pudding and paused to savor its flavor.

"Oh, this is good, Lyndra. What spice is that I taste? I don't recognize it."

Lyndra

Date: 2007-03-04 19:00 EST
Hearing him talk about her made Lyndra wonder if it were wise to even learn of this woman, or learn too much. She didn't want to be scarry or ill tempered, especially working in a school full of children.

"Oh, this is good, Lyndra. What spice is that I taste? I don't recognize it."

"Allspice.. it's a lot like clove and cinnamon mixed but with a slightly different twist. I put just enough in there to enhance the plum flavor, plus a dash of something else I'm not going to say."

She grinned.

"Alex, Do ye cook?"

She had noticed the change of subject, but was happy to roll along with it all the same.
