Topic: Unpredictables: For Bri .... just because.

About a week or so after her arrival, Sha'uri decided to go shopping. Having spent the morning haggling over a couple of magical bags, she finally relented to the price. They were tough negotiators with no room for change and just as quick to steel more than fifty silver crowns should you wish to sell it back right there and then.

The whole thing had been an accident when Sha'uri was hit by a sense of de ja vous and found herself the owner of two bags of holding instead of just the one. They were willing to buy it back, but at a reduced price of more then fifty crowns.... as if by the mere statement of ownership it depleted its value. It was like talking to a brick wall and they would not relent. Shauri decided to keep the other bag. They were getting lower in stock and it wasn't like they weren't a useful item.

Still, what was she going to do with two? By the time she came back to the school, it dawned on her exactly what to do with it: Give it to Briarius.

Nod. "And I'll throw in those magic beans, too."

But why?

It was just because ..... maybe one would be useful to him and the other ... well, it was hard to predict what the beans would do. She didn't know much about them except that they were unpredictable. The shopkeep said something about a beanstalk, but even they weren't sure. Whatever the outcome, she hoped it would be something good, something to bring him a smile.

Perhaps she should've given him the marbles? Nah, those were hers and she secretly loved playing with them too much. Besides, they weren't magical and the beans were. She thought he probably would like those better just because they were magical. Something about an update on fashionability went through her mind .... and so went the debate in her head as she went to put the beans carefully inside the bag.

With that done, she wrote a note, folded it in half, sealed it in dark blue wax with her signet ring, addressed it to him and pinned it to the bag.

Note read:

Dear Briarius,
I thought maybe you could use this.... just because. And inside a tiny box, there are magical beans in the bag, too ... just for fun. Hope you enjoy!
~Sha'uri

She took the bag and note, heading for his office, but thought better of it. What if he was busy? She could see him, through the window, dictating something to his aide. So on to his private quarters she went, sneaking in to lay it upon the pillow of his bed. Then she vanished quickly, teleporting to the forge and stoked the coals to heat them anew while she moved behind a hung blanket to change her clothes.... into her forging outfit of shorts, tank top and hard leather heat guard apron all of a dark blue. The apron was etched with magical symbols of Correllon, the Elven God of Magic and War.

Snatching the dark blue leather strap from her pocket, she placed it between her teeth. Then she hung her head down below her knees, flinging her hair forward to let gravity take its course with the long coal black hair. Her delicate looking fingers combed through the strands before pulling them to converge at the top back portion of her head. Then she slipped the strap from between pearly whites and tied it firmly round the base of gathered hair. All were tied within save just a few errent strands. She blew her breath at the defiant locks but to no end for they merely waved at her, mocking her as they would tend.

Once she was standing again, she paused to survey the area. The cleaning crews had come and done their cleaning round the entire campus, and she had been able to bring the forge area round to her liking ... relatively. It was clean, neat and all the equipment she would need was either brand new or in good repair. There were a few things in the temple she needed to do, but that could wait for another day. Today and for the rest of the week, she wanted to concentrate on the forge and try to make some of the various weapons and equipment that would be needed for the school.

The song was hummed at first while she went about her task of stoking the fire some more. It had been quite some time since she had even worked a forge, though it was coming back to her quite easily. She was comfortable with the physical labor and even enjoyed the feel of sweat beading upon her brow and the sweet cooling sensation given when the wind would occasionally blow in through the opened door. It reminded her that she was, after all, part human.

She thought of Triv as she picked up a bucket and moved outside to get some water. Triv had been the father of her second child, a son named Bryce. The What If's played in her head. If only he hadn't died, how much different life would be now. She almost stopped humming, but shook the thoughts from her mind and continued on with her chore.

The song resumed its speed with more vigor as the words flowed from her lips. Her voice was every bit as beautiful as her mother's voice had been, even more so. It was an old dwarven forge song she sang, taught to her by an old friend. She smiled in rememberence and drew the water from the well. By the time she came back to the forge, she was humming the tune once again.

This went on through the whole process, she was always humming or singing the song while she brought the metal to be melted by the coals, poured it, cooled it some, placed it on the anvil and hammered it into general shapes. Several items were started, the beginnings to two of each: swords, daggers, shields, maces, halbreds, lances, ... all to be finished at a later date. She finished several spear and arrow heads and then decided to call it a day.

The sun had descended and was beginning to set along the horizon. It had taken her the rest of the day to do all this, and it would be well after nightfall before she was done putting things away and cleaning up. She was tired and hungry having not eaten all day, though she ignored the gurgling of her stomach.

While she put things away, cleaned and prepared the place for the night, she wondered if Bri had found his present. She wondered if he would like it or if he would just be upset that she put it in his room. Well, she did sneak in there, though it was harmless and she wanted it to be a surprise. Still, she knew she shouldn't be so ... familiar with him. It was hard for her not to. She bit her lip gently between pearly whites and continued with her task of putting things away for the night.

Exhaustion seeped through her every muscle as she moved behind the hung blanket, took off her clothes and slipped into the large tub and down into the warm bath water laced with lavender oils. She was glad that she had put it here in the nearby stahl. It would do for now until she could renovate it properly, complete with running water. That would take some time to be done ... but later.

Now, she closed her eyes and relaxed in the warm soothing water despite the gurgling protest of her stomach. No, it was not going to interrupt her relaxation. She allowed the oils and thier scent to ease away her aching muscles and worries ..... until sleep began to overtake ....

Briarius stood at his window looking out over his campus...his campus. He still didn't believe his luck. It was odd though that his benefactors name had been lost to his memory and that his benefactor had not come around or sent correspondence. It was as if he just vanished. Out of the corner of his eye he noted the smoke from the forge had died down a bit.

"Looks like she is done for the day."

At that moment, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in."

The School's maid/cook bustled in with a sandwich and glass of milk for him. How much she reminded him of his ex-wife. She placed it on his desk and spoke quickly and not in typical accent for her.

"I'll nae 'ave e'eryone fallin sick because they did nae eat today. Especially ye! Ye've nae the constitution ye 'ad when ye were a younger lad"

With that, she hurried out and left Bri to his thoughts.

D'Shara Andrialyn Nightbloom Woodshadow...that was her name when they were married. It had changed so many times from what he remembered. Some from true memory...some from divinations. The details of the accident that ripped him from RhyDin are still unclear to him. He loved her with all of his heart. She was stubborn and abrasive at times, but never the less, he did love her.

...but did he love her enough? She obviously moved on...rather quickly his piecemeal memory told him. Maybe he didn't really love her. Maybe he did something wrong. Now his primary priestess and blacksmith was there to remind him daily that he was a failure. There to remind him that he wasn't as strong as he needed to be. There to remind him that his love meant nothing.

Wait...this was foolish. There was no reason to think that way. He wasn't even certain of what happened while he was gone. For all everyone thought, he was dead. If she was happy, then that's what mattered. Why was his thoughts growing dark at times? Maybe he was tired. Maybe he should just go to bed.

She began to dream ... imaged flowed from her memories in a chaotic stream. Torrents of thoughts rushed through her mind until Lightning cracked across the sky. Sha'rui was startled from her unconscience state. Her mind vaguely put some sense to her dream.

She had images of her mother beside a grave and remembered now the name was Bri's. Her mother had screamed for him, cried tears that ripped through her soul and left a puddle there on the ground where a single rose bloomed. Yes, her mother had love Bri so much that it changed her when he was gone.

Images of her life with Bri seemed to flutter through it's course until she realized the dream was donw. There she was in the tub and it was raining cats and dogs outside.

She quickly got out and got herself dressed, then made a dash across the way intending to go to her room. She was soak and wet by the time she got to the building and made a detour to the kitchen for some warm tea and food.

Briarius smiled as he stepped from the administration building into the rain. It had been so long since he could just enjoy the rain. Halfway to the Headmaster's quarters, he just stopped and looked up. Images of his past haunted him. He could see the swirling forms in the raindrops.

She set the tea kettle on the stove and then stared out the window at the storm. Several minutes went by before she realized she could see someone standing out there. Lightning crashed through the sky and there stood Bri staring up at the rain as she whistle blew.

Quckly pouring the hot water over the bags in a tea pot, she set the kettle back on the stove and looked back outside. He was still there.

"What is he doing?"

So back outside in the rain she went, moving quickly to him with a smirk upon her visage.

"Hey! Are you trying to catch your death or what? Guess I don't have to worry about Job security with you around. Heh heh.... Bri, come on... I've got tea brewing."

Shauri

And then suddenly, she was hit with the urge to go flying. She held her hand out to him as she came to stop.

"Nice warm tea beside a roaring fire? or.... do you wanna go for a ride?"

She looked up towards the sky, blinking as the raindrops hit her face. She opened her mouth and stuck out her tongue to catch a few of the cold clean drops.

Briarius

He looked at her.

"What do you mean, 'ride'"?

Shauri

She laughed and almost choked on the water. It was her turn to look at him.

"What did you think I meant?"
Smile.

"Come on, when was the last time you climbed atop a dragon and went for a ride above one of these kinds of storms? Trust me, it's safer above it then below. It's beautiful, too."

She kept her hand out to him, beckoning him with her fingers.

Briarius

"I...I...don't think that would be wise."

The abject terror that overwhelmed him was very apparent.

Shauri

She nearly dropped her jaw.

"You used to love it! Sorry. Well, I guess everyone can change, it's just that I never thought I'd see you not like going for a ride. Whatever."

It really wasn't a big deal to her. She let her hand drop.

"Oh, by the way, did you get what I left for you?"

Briarius

Date: 2006-07-16 16:20 EST
The Headmaster looked as if he were about to weep. He wiped the rain from his face and regained some composure.

"What you left for me?"

Shauri

Date: 2006-07-16 17:29 EST
"Yeah." She smiled. "It was just some things I picked up in RhyDin. I got this...."

She shook her head, catching herself.
"Darn it.. it's supposed to be a surprise. Okay, I'll tell you. You'll probably be mad I did it, but I wanted it to be a surprise. Please forgive me but I left something for you on your pillow."

Nodnodnod. There, she told on herself.

Briarius

Date: 2006-07-16 19:46 EST
He stared at her for a bit.

"You are lucky I am no longer the powerful archmage I once was...you would have been vaporized."

He chuckles a bit and heads towards the Headmaster's house.

Shauri

The indignant glare, feigned as it was.
"What? Oh! YOu such a dreamer!"

He seemed in a hurry to see what she got him. Should she follow?

"So, anyway, Bri... let me know if you like them.

Briarius

Date: 2006-07-17 22:48 EST
"I will"

He continued on his way to his quarters. Just before entering the house, he looked up and stared one more time.

Momentarily watching him leave, she decided to go for that ride all by herself. She glanced around to make sure she had room, then shape shifted into the ancient dragon of a Red and Silver mix. Jumping into the air, she spread her wings and launched herself into flight. By the time Bri looked up in the sky, he could see her and hear her dragon's roar of delight while she went into a series of loops, then disappeared above the clouds.

She watched the storm from up above for all of five minutes before she descended back down and landed as she shape shifted back to normal. Then she ran back to the kitchen for that hot cup of tea and a warm blanket to put round her shoulders as she stared out the window at the not so raging storm outside. It was beginning to die down to a nice placid rain. It couldn't be helped, that wondering glance towards the headmaster's quarters.

As he made his way into his personal chambers, he spotted the Bag of Holding.

"How very nice. I was wondering if I should reinvest in one of these."

It was then that he spotted the beans.

"Something to experiment with."

She bit her lip gently as the mental tug of war brewed in her head... He likes it .... He doesn't like it .... went round and round with all kinds of reasons for and against. It was a good thing she didn't have petals to pull or she'd have a pile as tall as her to clean up. And in between the tugs and pulls, she sipped her tea until it was gone.

"What the hell am I so worried about?"

Grinning at herself, she glanced down to Sabre, who was rubbing up against her leg and purring. She picked up her little kitty and placed her in her lap. The cat from hell had finally began to get used to Sha'uri and was seemingly much nicer for it, though still wild enough to be considered a cat from hell.

"You just needed to get used to me, eh? You 'ol nastly little cat. You're still mine. Now, if we can get you to be nicer to others.... eh... I know, I ask a lot. All in due time."

Said loving while Sha'uri continued to stroke her kitty and use psionic energy to levitate and move things around for another cup of tea.
