The event had been something which was loosely planned. Madison and Tag occasionally had Fin over to their home for dinner and it was that, perhaps, which spawned the idea of an even larger dinner party. It would be on a Monday, a day off for the bar so that both employees, Fin and Charlie, could be present. Charlie was so new to Charlie's Bar that Tag hadn't even been aware of her being hired in the vacuum that had been born from Cris' passing. It had only been a few days that she had started and Madison was already giving her time behind the bar, learning.

Monday, they said. Monday we will gather and bring food and come to the house.

The home required some preparation because it was a modest one, especially now that Ame was born. His son shared their bedroom, but Penny had her own. When someone walked into the house they were immediately greeted with a living room that had a couch three cushions long and two chairs which all pointed inward to the coffee table. On the right was a large, doorless threshold that lead to the kitchen. The windows over the sink of the far wall and to the right overlooked the garden Tag tended to. There was the pantry and laundry room joined to it as well on the left hand wall. In the living room there was a door, just a handful of paces after the kitchen door, which was the guest bathroom and, also, Penny's. She had a few of her items still in it, decorated a bit so that it felt a little more like it was "her's".

In the living room, the door to the left leads to Penny's room. The door nearly opposite of the entrance leads to the master bedroom.

That day, he had to open up the kitchen table and slide in three leaves so that it could accommodate everyone. This was as large as the table was willing to handle but it seemed happy for the expansion.

Madison and Tag did their best to have everything prepared. Tag didn't enjoy walking inside the home with his shoes on, but he knew it wasn't a common practice for everyone. They might have noticed, upon stepping in, that there was a mat to the right against the wall with shoes on it. Either they would take it as a hint to do the same or keep them on. He found that women, especially due to their heels, were loathe to slip out of certain footgear.

Fin was the first to arrive, appearing of course with Lucy. It was not long after them that Charlie and Ray likewise knocked on the door. Tag worked around the food they brought while Madi entertained, showing off Ame who seemed more intent on sleeping than cracking open his eyes and grabbing the fingers of strangers. There was no denying it-- the kid was a match for Tag's eyes and asian features but there was a spark of something, of gunpowder and prairie, undeniably about him.

Penny was excited and also working on her aloof, bored teenager mood. It wasn't very successful. It was no small secret that she liked Fin, and tended to brighten up when he was around. Tag thought it was either because he fell into the dreaded classification of 'cute boy' or because he was an adult that was not her father, wiggling a stuffed sheep at her like she was still a baby. Fin also occasionally brought gifts while Tag tended to be conservative. Fin was like the young uncle who showed up to share in his good fortune and spoil the kids he could.

After dinner Tag worked on getting Penny to bed amidst all the excitement. Madison was no doubt getting Ame settled in the crib. It was about half an hour before the two of them reappeared, still somewhat tentative about whether or not one of the two children would stir again. They offered drinks from the bottle Fin had brought over last time, that piece of him cut out of Scotland and shared with the group. Ray unfortunately had to pass on the opportunity because of the hour he would need to be up. They shared stories of themselves and he found it strange and remarkable that each one of them carried a certain amount of grit in their hearts. Perhaps it was the echo of similar scars and knowing pauses which kept the moments comfortable instead of awkward.

It was around 11:30 pm that they had to go. Ray had to work early, which was something Tag understood all too well. Construction jobs tended to start at 5am, before the sun, heat and traffic could affect their work. They left at the same time, leaving their home aching for the sounds and warmth of what had been. Tag and Madi would keep its heart beating and return its serenity but the house would wait expectantly for their return.

Stories that were shared... food that was brought... clothes worn... they were all parts of the evening held inside his chest.

Charlie showed up to the dinner sans food, but she brought Ray who did the cooking (and managed to talk her out of bringing the burnt-edged "mystery" cookies she tried to bake for the occasion), a bottle of Jack Daniels, and two art books for Penny. While her mood was a little off in the beginning, leaving her quiet and less smiles than normal, she warmed up for the children - cooing at Ame like he was a living miracle and brightening for Penny while asking her about her art.

Making conversation with each person at one point or another, she thawed out entirely by the evening's end, but ate like a bird and didn't partake in a drink when Ray opted not to. Whatever stories were shared were not her own, but she did listen attentively to anyone else who shared one!

By the end of the night, she thanked Madison and Tag for inviting them - even going so far as to offer the woman a hug if she seemed willing - and insisted that they should all do it again sometime.

Fin and Lucy showed up together, as they often did to events across RhyDin. She was his best girl and a dinner with Madi, Tag, Charlie and Ray seemed too good a chance to pass up, wanted to share it with her.

For his own part, the Scot bore a bottle of 18 year old Scotch and a grocery bag full of chips and dips. It wasn't strictly a potluck, but it was his contribution nonetheless.

The house was a beacon of golden warmth in the night and Fin smiled to himself, throwing an arm around Lucy's shoulders and placing a kiss to her hair. "Thanks for comin' wit' me," he murmured to her before heading up the steps.

Inside, a faux-sullen teenager awaited him but he ignored the attitude and lured a smile from her. Hugs for Madi and cooing over the sleeping bairn, getting to hold him for a second while Madi refreshed herself. Lucy and Tag were introduced (because he couldn't remember if they'd ever met) just before Charlie and Ray showed up.

Dinner was not a boisterous affair but it was a happy one, the conversation flowing along with the wine that Lucy brought. Fin insisted on clearing the table after while Madi and Tag enjoyed themselves, stacking all the plates in the sink and giving them a quick rinse. Madi fussed at him from the table but she was ignored with a smirk.

Fin also brought a deck of cards that was brought out after the kids went to bed. Dealing cards, laughing until he was chastised for volume with Madi's powerful stink-eye. When they were finally kicked out, Fin was saturated with the peace that pervaded the cozy home. A handshake for Tag, tight hug for Madi and kiss to her cheek before he and Lucy headed back toward the heart of the city.

Initially, Reginald the Ghost thought he might tag along and join the party, but once he and Lucy realized there would be children at the dinner, that was immediately dismissed as a very bad idea. Also, the guest list was primarily those who could not see him, from what Lucy could tell, so it was likely to be yet another evening of observation for him, which, after a couple years in the ghostly business, was not Reginald's favorite way to pass the time.

Instead, it was just Lucy who came along with Fin, bringing a bouquet of flowers for the host and hostess while Fin carried the bottles of wine and whiskey. She was happy to be in the company of Fin's friends whom she was just beginning to know, joining and enjoying the conversation.

It was apparent that she wanted to hold Ame, but she didn't ask and would have politely declined if offered. But she certainly cooed over the little one, and delighted in the opportunity to meet him. If she had a chance to meet Penny too, she tried to engage her a bit, but easily backed off to leave her to Fin's attention since Lucy suspected he was of much greater interest to the young girl than she was.

After a couple glasses of wine, Lucy opened up about some of her early experiences in Rhy'Din---mostly fish-out-of-water stories---including the time a vampire tried to put her in his thrall at a Fashion Week event, and the time she unwittingly found herself dining with members of the Humans Only Society. Both stories were spun as humorous anecdotes, but there was also a hint of the residual discomfort Lucy felt in Rhy'din culture.

As a matter of curiosity, Lucy asked if anyone had been to visit the vampire exhibit at the Otherworld museum and asked what they thought of it. If none had, she proposed an outing (assuming she hadn't missed the exhibit's closing) since she wasn't too keen on attending by herself.

As the evening wrapped up, Lucy thanked Madi and Tag for their hospitality (though she did not offer to help clean), and then followed after Fin, slipping back into her sandals from where she had left them near the door per the custom of the house, bidding goodbye with cheek kisses.
