The RHL had started off so well, interest was high, sponsorships were coming in from many businesses and theme nights were a hit. Most of the games were sold out and the teams shops were selling out, thanks in part to the popularity of a certain Sparkly Fish in a pink jersey named Cor.

Kate was confident that The Persephone Corporation that had supported and funded the idea would be happy, raking in the gold, and continue the League.

She personally reviewed the finances of the league and the teams, she kept in contact with the venue's and the practice ice rinks, the league was making money, lots of money.

Then a few weeks before the end of the regular season, right when the push to the playoff's and the advertising that should go with it were about to begin TPC pulled the rug out from under Kate, the League, and the Teams.

The letter was short and sweet:

Due to the current financial situation The Persephone Corporation will be discontinuing the Rhy Din Hockey League. Effective immediately all contracts are to be severed and all games are to be discontinued.

It was signed by a random middle management peon for the President of the corporation.

Kate saw red but she was so mad she was beyond yelling and into a cold determination to keep the league going, prove it was feasible, not lay off or fire any of the people who were working for the League, and keep the same level of professional play and management she'd maintained throughout the season. It was her name on the league so it made perfect sense for her to buy it and run things herself.

So she opened an office, worked with some of the left over front office league staff to rework the schedule and kept the league alive through the end of the regular season and the playoffs.

There were some things that had to be put aside, the reporter who had been writing and running the RHL Hockey News worked directly for the PC and was pulled offworld. There wasn't time to find a new reporter so the nightly recaps of the games, the gossip about the players, and news about upcoming games and the playoffs were dumped.

That's how, when the Marketplace and their ever sparkly team Captain Cor won the first RHL Cup, few knew about it.

Soon after ads were seen, feelers were put out, offers to local businesses and a few of the wealthy citizens of the city were seen. There were some hockey teams for sale, if a team was bought then the owner would automatically get a seat and a vote on the RHL Board.

The only team not for sale was the Rhy Din Dragons, Kate bough them herself.

All these moves were made shortly after the playoffs were done and those who paid attention would see the beginnings of Kate's bid for Governor as well.
