Now, for the party! There are going to be several NPCs (dancers, patrons, etc) please feel free to use them as you wish. I just ask that you don't make them do anything that breaks too many social norms. There will be two men outside the front doors to collect ticket stubs and do crowd control (however, if you're character has some plan to sneak in, be my guest :) )

The setting and decorations are completely over-the-top. There are duplicates of the backdrops, including house exteriors in tans with brown trimming (similiar to those in a few of the videos). These create a semi-circle around a replica the town square used during the final act. Lights are strung all around for an illuminating effect around the homes and live landscaping that had been transported. The center of the town square held a large dance floor with rustic tables scattered about. A simple string quartet was off to a corner of the dance floor, instructed to play folk music.

There are also a few activities scattered around for those that did not want to dance. Several Maypoles stood tall with flameboyant colors of ribbons waiting to be weaved around. There is also a booth to make small May Day Baskets with a small assortment of springs blossoms and simple candies. There are also large May Day Baskets available for purchase. A sign explains that all proceeds of the large baskets will be donated to purchase books for local orphanages and foster homes.

The bar along the southern wall, as well as the kitchen were open and equipped with a few workers to help attend to drink orders and present simple hor?dourves.

Also, feel free to post whatever your character will be wearing to the ballet/party and such. A picture of Katarina's dress for the party can be found here but in deep green.

Just a few more things about A Midsummer Night's Dream!

I am going to try a new thing with the thread and make it user-friendly for anyone going to see the performance at anytime. I'm not sure if this format will stay, or how successful it will be, but I want to give anyone an opportunity to participate, no matter when their characters see the performance. Please let me know if you think this works better.

Also for this reason, I'm considering throwing an after-party after the last performance. I think the live RP party for Coppelia went well, but again - opinions are welcome!

And anyone is welcome to post pictures of what their characters are wearing to the performance, also.

Here's Katarina costumes!

There are not as many good videos, but a few samples can be found here and here. I also have mentioned a tapping/flamenco technique that I shamelessly have stolen from here.

I imagine the backdrops to be very similar in look, only the props are going to be able to hold and carry the participating opera singers. In other words - it's going to be huge.

Speaking of the opera, I think hearing the singers completely changes the colors compared to just an orchestration. Here's a rather well-known version of the Habanera here.

There will be as custom, an after party, but due to scheduling reasons, it's going to be hosted at the end of the ballet.

Everyone is welcome to post in the Petrushka folder. The informations is available for your character to attend whatever day and do as much or as little as possible.

Synopsis

ACT I

As Paris awakes for another day, Matthew enters and is immediately robbed of his belongings by Gypsies. Nathalie is waiting for the other launderettes to arrive when she sees Matthew for the first time. As the couple dance together, the spark of love ignites. Zidler, the owner of the Moulin Rouge enters and everyone knows that he is the man who can take you from the streets to the spotlight, so the women dance for him, hoping to attract his attention. Nathalie out shines all the other girls so Zidler offers her a position at the Moulin Rouge! Nathalie says goodbye to her friends and Matthew, then leaves with Zidler. Toulouse arrives and sees Matthew sketching. Intrigued he asks to see Matthew?s work and critiques it rather harshly. Matthew, not knowing who Toulouse is, gets quite upset. Toulouse offers a paintbrush to Matthew and the dueling paint off scene begins.

Zidler brings Nathalie into a cold, dark and somewhat frightening rehearsal space, where she is told to wait before rehearsal begins. The other dancers are not impressed that Nathalie is there and try to intimidate her. La Goulue challenges Nathalie to a Cancan competition and at the end Nathalie is victorious. She wins Zidler?s approval and the tower dressing room.

Toulouse and Matthew are in front of the Moulin Rouge cabaret with their paintings. Toulouse invites Matthew to the cabaret for the evening but Matthew is broke and underdressed. Toulouse brings in tailors who transform Matthew into a gentleman in a tuxedo. After the first Moulin Rouge show, Nathalie sees Matthew and the two of them rekindle the spark from their first meeting. Nathalie takes Matthew away from the Moulin Rouge so they can be alone. Zidler notices that Nathalie is gone and becomes suspicious; after searching the Moulin Rouge he closes it down and leaves to find her.

As people are leaving the cabaret, Nathalie and Matthew are on their way to a bridge by the Eiffel Tower. Zidler comes searching for her, but Toulouse distracts him to help the couple escape to the bridge where they dance a romantic pas de deux.

ACT II

Toulouse is painting while drinking absinthe, and as the painting continues we see a green fairy appear. She dances with Toulouse and inspires him to finish the painting.

Meanwhile, Nathalie is getting ready to meet Matthew at the Tango Caf?. She is happy and in love. Zidler has now become obsessed with Nathalie and does not want her to go out. He tries to seduce Nathalie and only Toulouse entering saves her. Zidler has no idea she is meeting Matthew at the Tango Caf? but follows and finds the couple together. Zidler threatens to kill Matthew so Nathalie leaves with him in an attempt to appease the tyrant and save Matthew from harm. But Matthew is left heartbroken and confused. He drinks absinthe with Toulouse and encounters the green fairies. After he wakes up, Toulouse creates a plan for Matthew to disguise himself as a waiter and get back into the cabaret.

At the show that evening, Matthew finds Nathalie and they try to escape through the mayhem of the Cancan. Zidler discovers them together and becomes enraged, stopping the show. He intends to kill Matthew, but Nathalie is mortally wounded instead. Matthew holds Nathalie as she takes her last breath.

SYNOPSIS

ACT I
Scene 1 - Lucy Westenra?s Sea-Side, Estate in England, late 1800?s Having already been inducted into Dracula?s world, Lucy collapses in her bedroom. Her nightmares and sleepwalking have the household staff concerned. Troubled by her erratic moods, Lucy?s three suitors and a medical specialist, Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, are summoned to her bedside. Close to hysterical and seemingly paranoid, Lucy faints near dead. Van Helsing determines Lucy to have unexplainable loss of blood. A transfusion is required. Suspicious that supernatural forces are at work, Van Helsing discovers two tiny holes in Lucy?s neck. Research material from the mansion library is brought to the doctor. Van Helsing abandons medical remedies and surrounds Lucy?s bedroom with garlic and crosses. Lucy appears dead to the doctor and her three suitors.

Scene 2 - Lucy?s Crypt Holding her under his dark spell, Dracula claims his prize by initiating Lucy into the tomb. Van Helsing and the suitors, suspicious of Lucy?s death, break into the tomb. Armed with crosses and stakes they manage to free Lucy from Dracula?s evil empire.

ACT II
Pantomime - Present, late 1900?s The dancers step out of their roles to illustrate humorously a condensed narration of Bram Stoker?s famous novel, Dracula.

Scene 1 - A Convent in Budapest, late 1800?s Mina Murray (a friend of Lucy Westenra, who is unaware of the fate which has befallen her), travels to a convent in Budapest after being summoned to the side of her ill fianc?, Jonathan Harker. In order to advance his career, Jonathan has recently travelled to Transylvania to assist Count Dracula in buying real estate in England. Mina and Jonathan are together after a long absence when she chances upon his diary. Mina reads that Dracula had abandoned Jonathan in the castle where he encountered three vampire women. Though lured by their strange seduction, Jonathan has managed to escape. Mina is enticed by Jonathan?s experiences in the castle and part of her feels drawn to that world. Having no secrets from Jonathan, she divulges this desire. Jonathan is shocked by Mina?s behavior, which is similar to that of the vampire women. Repressing these desires, Mina assures Jonathan of her love by sealing the diary?s secrets.

Scene 2 - The Crypt at Dracula?s, Castle in Transylvania, late 1800?s Mina has been taken captive by Dracula who offers her a place to live in the world of the living dead, the place she read about in Jonathan?s diary. Dracula leaves Mina drained of blood as he hears Van Helsing and Lucy?s suitors inside the castle. Finding Mina alive they hunt for Dracula. The daylight is fast approaching and Dracula is forced to battle the men. With all enslaved, the Count tortures Jonathan by performing his blood ritual on Mina. Witnessing Jonathan?s anguish, Mina manages to weaken Dracula by draining him of his blood. Mina then seizes a cross and wakens the dazed men. They surround Dracula and, like Vlad of Wallichia, kill him.
