Aleron

The sound of hooves striking dirt with the soft rhythm of forced breaths and the grinding of teeth were sounds born of heaven and beyond the reach of man except when granted the serenity of being allowed in the presents of such great animals as was the equine race. Horses and unicorns to be exact, great four legged beasts that were born of myth and legend and given flesh and blood by those who had deemed them worthy to exist.

Aleron was not a religious man, in fact he hated the idea of an god ruling over any world he lived in, he knew science despite his old ways, he under stood the theory behind evolution, and the mistreatment of children and animals were a constant reminder that if god existed, it was a cruel hateful creature that did not deserve to be in existence. Aleron was a calm man, with his feet firmly on the ground, and his eyes always on the goal ahead of him, which was normally some beautiful chunk of horse flesh that had been dropped on his doorstep by some misinformed well intentioned human. Aleron understood not everyone knew animals like he did, but at the same time it angered him when a horse would arrive at his farm, with no clue on how to be a horse.

As it was today, as he stood watching the horse before him. A mightyful creature with a bay head and grey coat, the blue ron horse was one of over a dozen horses on his farm today. His grey eyes set him apart of other blue rons as he snorted and bucked and galloped around the pen, his sides in a lather of white foam sweat, his ears pinned. From where Aleron stood he could see the horses every rib,the long foot on him and the marks on his back and face from where an ill fitting saddle and bridal had rubbed him raw.

He didn't ask anything of the horse, not yet, for now he was just watching, an unobtrusive observe in the middle of the round corral, a short rope in hand, coiled like a snake ready to strike, but his shoulders were rolled, his eyes on the horses feet, his entire posture said, 'I'm no threat', the hose just hadn't seemed to realize it yet. After a while he seemed to finally accept the presents of this man, an ear flicked in his direction as the horse started to wonder the round pen in search of something to nibble on.

It was only then that Aleron moved, slowly to the gate, pushing it open and walking as far from it as he dared and waited. It took about fifteen minutes before the little horse poked his head out the gate, ears up then took off at a full gallop into the field. Aleron laid the rope over his shoulder and moved to the pen closing it once more before he turned and headed for the house. One more horse he would half to teach to be a horse again, before he started to retrain him.
