The brilliance of the light etched her vision, everywhere she looked she could see the same blinding light. A white silhouette hiding the things behind it no matter how many times she tried to blink it away. She closed her eyes tight and flinched at the roar of flame that took the lights place enabling her.

Throwing her hands to cover her ears, she would give anything to stop the sound. The fire roared with more strength than any waterfall she heard. Not even her scream could drown it out.

Ripped from her sleep, she woke up covered in sweat. That place between the waking and sleeping worlds still had a veil of surrealism around her. It?d been how long since she?d had dreams of the abbey, the valley? Why now?

She never sweated, she didn't understand, the dampness was something beyond disturbing as she clutched at the fine linens casting them aside. Something was just... not right.

Unaware of time and space she stumbled out of bed, crumpling to the floor. She tried to stand while trying to remove the small silk number she slept in. She wanted it off, gone, the smell of the fire from her dreams seemed to stick to the ruined silk.

Jenai choked out a frustrated sob as she fell to the bedroom rug once more. The remains of scorched silk settled around her.

There are people that will tell you about things that went from great to absolute ^&%$ in the blink of an eye, that before they could even blink-- that it all went 'FUBAR' or some other catch phrase of the moment. Then there are those will tell you they stood and watch it all happen and didn't do a damned thing to stop it, when they had the chance.

I assure you, this is none of the above what so ever.

Due to the fact that there was no blink of an eye, because ? well he was asleep actually, which was a rare thing when it came to him, having an actual sleep, that is.

Yet, something began to pull him from that slumber.

Something...warm.

He stirred somewhat, yet was still quite far-gone in said slumber, yet-- he was being tugged at, bit by bit.

Something shifted-- someone?

It was close, so very close... So very warm, to the point that his hand lifted to wipe that brow of his, the sweat slowly causing him to waken the more so.

Then came that scent... As if something were-- burning? Now accompanied by a heat that was indeed more than a mere 'warmth', and a rustling that because more violent with each second.

She shot up, as his eyes slowly opened... Her name was called out softly, as he reached--

Then came the linens and then a thud, that in turn cause him to rise in a rush his eyes panning the room quickly, ?Baby??

Then that smell again, that smell of something burnt. ?Jen--?

His call cut short by seeing her fall to the floor as he sprang from the bed, those hands of his reaching for her, ?Jen!??

Falling to his knees he took her in his arms, his eyes widening as she was so hot to the touch-- so much so that he released her for a moment, ?Jen!? Baby!??

Seemingly from nowhere, a pair of golden eyes peeled from the darkness as Jean Luc responded to the ruckus, the old moor cat's muzzle nearing Jenai and Brian as he sniffed at the pair, and then--- he pulled back, a low hiss escaping him as he backed to the door.

?Jean, stay there!? Brian called out, as he kept his attention to Jenai. The searing heat was more the bearable, as he cradled her once more in his arms, pushing aside the pain that still wracked him from the previous embrace. ?Baby, baby what happened??

Shifting through the black haze, she parted it like veil after veil. ?... Baby....? Why couldn?t she find him, why wouldn?t anything come out when she opened her mouth to call back?

She knew her name was being called before she could actually hear it. The hiss of Jean mixed with the the sound of Brian?s voice parted the the fog and smoke that clouded her mind. As she focused on his face in the dark she reached up and touched his cheek with a shaky hand. ?Why are you are sweating??

As her body began to cool, she became aware that she she was partially nude and covered with a light sheen as well. ?I...? she curled a bit into his arms, unaware that she?d burned him just moments earlier. ?... was dreaming, the Abbey. It was all on fire again.? She started to fall asleep there in his arms.

One if was a comforting place, in his cool arms. Second, as much as she was trying to figure out why she was on the floor and where her nightgown had gone, she was more exhausted now than she had been upon going to bed.

?I?m sorry.? She whispered as she found the look on Brian?s face confusing and tried to get back to the bed.

Gently he rocked back and forth, holding her close to him as he softly spoke to her--- calling her name, beckoning her to him as only he could.

Across the room, the large moor cat began to pad back and forth, his eyes solely on Jenai as he did so. Quickly Brian glanced up, ?Jean, stay there.?

Jean did as he'd been bade, yet kept those golden orbs fixated upon Jenai.

Brian called her name once more, so very softly as he continued to hold her closely. His hand slid to stroke her hair, while he continued to speak to her... Still there was no reaction from her, save the fact she was breathing.

Then he decided to try something else.

Calming himself as best as he could, he closed his eyes and began to speak to her once more.

?Ash' Delan Drea ? Ash' Delan Drea... Vos' Tre'shan De'lanora Dreida, Vashon Tre'la Vishindre, ma' la Forsu'Dre. Ash' Delan Drea..?

Once more, he repeated the mantra--- the words not simply being spoken to her.

Instead they were being spoken through her...

Once more, he called to her. ?Ash' Delan Drea, Jenai... Baby, come back to us. Please... Vos' Tre'shan De'lanora.?

The words had come naturally enough, granted no one had ever heard Brian speak such a thing before, then again--- no one had ever seen he and Jenai truly alone, either. But that aside, he hoped the words had found her somehow-- somewhere.

He slowed that rocking and gave a kiss to her head, as he began to speak once more, only to be stopped by her touch, which caused him to gasp softly as she questioned him.

?Baby you--- I think you explo---?

His reply had been cut short, as she began to speak once more.

A puzzled expression took hold of him, ?The Abbey? Fire? Baby, you...?

She then rose from his arms that attempt to make it to bed, which prompted Brian to rise quickly and assist her, as best as he could. Even Jean Luc padded over, offering a guided nuzzle to Jenai's leg, showing her the way so to speak.

Shoving the linens aside, or what was left of them, Brian eased Jenai into bed and slid in there with her. A quick adjustment of pillows, allowed him to sit up somewhat and hold her all the while as Jean Luc camped at the foot of the bed, almost as if he were waiting for something.

So Brian held Jenai, allowing her to fall back to sleep as he kept vigil. She needed her rest, as this episode taxed her heavily-- at least that's how it felt to him. Tomorrow they'd talk more, till then...

He'd just do whatever he could for her.

And for some reason-- he didn't seem to realize that a soft rune of frost manifested itself about his left hand and quickly vanished in a hue of crimson...

While sleep had been deep, it was not one of true rest. Clips and snippets of dreaming came in no particular order and faded quickly with the dawn. She?d slept in, forgoing her morning routine to be up before the sun to sneak in a little her time in the small gym in the sub-levels of the house.

Brian had woken up before her, as usual. She wondered if she owed him an apology for any sleep hits or kicks. She?d given him one or two before and she figured she?d must of had a bad night as soon as she needed to find something to throw on before leaving the room.

The scent of breakfast on the air hinted the girls and Dom were already fed. Hearing them about to scamper out of the house to school was also a dead give away. Nothing was quiet with those two, well if it was, you could bet dollars to donuts they were up to something. She made her way into the kitchen and headed straight for the coffee pot.

?Bless who ever made coffee this morning.?

She stopped short of grabbing her favorite cup and tried to stretch, feeling still inexplicably stiff.

As it stood, she did not owe Brian any apologies what so ever for any kicking, hitting, striking or what have you. Or at the very least, none that he would have admitted to in any event.

It was also the same, when it came to the nice sunburn she had gifted him with during the previous evening.

However, when asked by the twins why he looked like a lightly done lobster, Brian responded by telling them that he had actually been curious as to how it would feel to be a lightly done lobster and he had just happened to have garnered the nerve last night, to go through with it.

Thus, he?d been steamed accordingly.

And somehow? that seemed to actually placate them, which was a surprise to Brian.

With further regard to the previous evening, while Jenai did find some sleep, Brian did not. He remained awake in his vigil throughout the night, watching over his wife with Jean Luc at his side.

And while there were minor stirrings here and there, the rest of the evening went without further incident.

Dawn came, and with that Brian rose to tend to the children, allowing her to sleep in as Jean Luc continued the detail of watching over her, from the shadows.

When she entered the kitchen, Brian had been waiting. He watched her carefully as Jean Luc peeled into view and then padded off down the hall from the kitchen, leaving the pair alone once more. Letting her have a moment, Brian then asked. ?So? Um? Want to tell me, what the hell happened last night, babes??

?So? Um? Want to tell me, what the hell happened last night, babes??

That phrase seemed to send a ping to her mind making her automatically stop before she even got the coffee mug to her lips and turn around. It wasn?t the sound of his voice that did it. She loved that sound as much as she loved the sound of her children?s laughter. That just wasn?t a question one heard in the morning. One SHE heard in the morning.

People were usually greeted with ?Sleep well? Did you have a good rest? You look refreshed? Want pancakes?? Not, ?what the hell happened last night?? Even though Jen usually asked that more often of Brian in their early courtship.

But as she turned around she hurried to put her mug down on the kitchen counter, it almost falling over the edge in her rush. A simple push back though she caught it and set it straight. Her alarm was justified by the shade to his skin.

With urgency she rounded to his side in the kitchen. The first thought to her mind was the color of a sunburn. But that didn?t make any sense, none of them suffered such things no matter how much they played or stayed outside and it was only spring! She looked over his face with concern as she gingerly brushes the hair behind his ear with her finger tips.

?What do you mean? Shouldn't I be asking you that?? They went to bed at the same time, for once.

?Did you go back out?? Annoyance started to creep into her voice. It wasn?t much for him to think about something for work or.. whatever.. that would cause him to wake and feel the need to take a trip to the office or follow some kind of lead. She also wasn't an idiot. She knew that Garet had been seen a bit more than usual with Brian. They had found him after all. And where there is Garet, there is Mylly. Where there is Mylly there was trouble.

?I mean I had a nightmare last night night, but it was just a weird one about the Abbey.? She wondered if in her dream she?d woken him up and he then decided to go for a walk and...

...lets be honest, Brian is a shit magnet....

?You look like you got in a fire,? her eyes soft but pondering who?s ass she?d have to kick, his or someone else's, ?But your hair is not singed.?

She could recall nothing but flickers of her dream. Like most, the dreams faded and got out of place, mixed up and jumbled upon waking and vanished quickly as the day progressed. All she had before her was a strange set of questions. One of which she forgot was directed at her, and one of her own.

She was right, you know? It most assuredly was not the tone of his voice what so ever that did it...

Nope, not at all.

Why you may ask? Because despite that newly found tan of his, along with the events from the previous evening, Brian Ravenlock was actually in good spirits. So that voice of his? Yeah, it was rather pleasant, truth be told.

And also--- how many times would HE actually be the ONE to ask her a question like that? I mean really, moments like this are... Well shit someone better the media, cause it just doesn't happen.

Mind you, there was also an ulterior motive when it came to that question of his and more so, how he came across when asking it.

He was gauging her reaction...

So when she turned and approached him in that rather hurried manner of hers, his eyes were taking in every bit of her with the most sincere of measures, as mental notations fired off left and right.

Of course one might ask why would Brian do such a thing, while others would assume he's treating her like some sort of subject he'd come across during his shift with the 27th.

Then again, others didn't have their wife, husband or whatever--- somewhat explode in their bed....

So lets cut the man some slack, shall we? Maybe a tad? Let's chalk it up to the fact that Brian Ravenlock looks at things from angles others don't assume to, an that includes when he's observing is own wife.

Especially since he knows more than anyone in this world, exactly what she'd once been capable of... what she may still very well be capable of. In fact he is one of a trio of souls, who understand fully well what Jenai harbored with her own form, the other two souls being one Isuelt, and Garet Lotus.

It had years since then.

Yet last night... In some small way, carried quite the gentle reminder. A reminder that Brian would hold closely to himself, as he did with anything that involved his wife and children, let alone his family.

That concerned look of hers, coupled with that touch spoke volumes.

?What do you mean? Shouldn't I be asking you that?? Her question, also lent credence to said volumes.

And yes, they did go to bed together... for once.

Now that dark brow of his raised ever the slightly, as a cant of head took hold.

?Did you go back out??

He didn't answer right away, opting to let her question hang there for a few, to allow him some more time to gauge her. However for the sake of things an what not--- he did not go out at all, despite his somewhat OCD penchant for being out at the most ungodly of house, doing Lords know what, and then sliding back into the house like nothing had happened.

He's a Ravenlock... It comes with the name, folks. Also there may be legal documentation to support that as well.... maybe.

?I mean I had a nightmare last night night, but it was just a weird one about the Abbey.?

Ah-- now we're getting something, here. Yes he did recall her mentioning the Abbey. ....was dreaming, the Abbey... It was all on fire again...

Yes, that had been said last night. This was a good sign, because she recalled something.

Despite that revelation, he still remained quiet as he continued to observe.

?You look like you got in a fire... But your hair is not singed.?

Brian waited a few moments, as he nodded softly to that woman he loved like no other. His hand took hers into his own, as he placed a loving kiss on it.

His eyes shifted to her own, as a loving smile took form. ?Well, baby... I'll answer somewhat in order, alright??

Releasing her hand, he slid his shirt off to let her see his newly gifted tan in all its glory, not to mention some actual peeling as well, so another mental note was made to get some body lotion on the DL and ASAP, no less.

As it stood, there were places that were in fact darker than some of his newer scars, if that were to give an idea in relation to 1st and 2nd degree type burns.

?No, baby doll, I did not go out last night. I was here the entire night with you. Yes you did have a nightmare last night, love... You mentioned the Abbey and the fire. Lastly I was in a bit of a fire last night, in our very own bed and I'm not talking about that sexing you up thing, either.?

It was about then that Jean Luc came padding into the kitchen with something in his mouth. Something that he dropped at Jen's feet, as he then gave her a nuzzle with that large head of his.

Kneeling down, Brian lifted what Jean Luc had brought in--- which is what was left of Jen's nightgown.

Holding it up more so for her to see, Brian continued. ?I don't know about my hair, baby. But I can tell you this--- I asked you about what happened last night, because you are what happened last night, love. You had... an episode, sweets.?

?You are what burned me.?
