A walk through the morning seemed like a wonderful idea. Remembering to wear her cloak against the cool of morning was an even better one. White, soft turtleneck contrasting easy fitting black pants, she felt that it was enough, with the weather warming and such. An average sized box, complimentary of A Stitch in Time, was tucked under her left arm. All she had needed was a box, and the clothing that was once inside the box was now tucked inside the Sanctuary.

The path was unfamiliar to her, but it was well-worn from others. A glance to the ground now as she continued the path. Soon spring would come, and the lush of green would be spread throughout. A ghost smile played on her lips then, at the thought of Shawn. He might just die on the spot if he saw half of this place, and what it lacked.

Her thoughts were scattered as the manor of her destination came into view. Things spoken days previous, possibilities that were closer with every moment passing. She did not shove them away anymore, but rather, she picked them apart like every other. Though, she still did not have the answers she longed to have. Always a matter of time with such things.

She came upon the gates to the manor, though clearly they were slightly ajar. She paused, resisted the urge to wrinkle her nose. She was not exactly keen on walking inside without knowledge if it was acceptable. Grey eyes flickered up and around then, in hope of finding someone who provide direction for her.

Mistress Ilena looked over her list of things one last time before she called for one of her kitchen pages. "Now here is the list complete and the prices you should expect at Market. Do not talk to anyone you do not have to. Keep your wits about you, and I had better have some coin coming back to me in the end." A sharp nod and stern look all the while she talked. A basket shoved at the young page as they came to the back door. "Now off with you." But Mistress Ilena then spared a smile, "And get yourself a lemondrop while you're about it."

So it was that a young girl, a kitchen page by the look of the basket over her arm and the bits of brown hair that fell free from the kerchief over her hair stepped through the open gates and stopped short at the woman she saw there. "Oh, ye gave me such a start, ma'am. If ye have business and such up 't the manor, you can be going on in. If the guards think ye be a threat, ye willnae be getting far."

Sure enough, the clatter and noise of the soldiers and recruits practing in the yard in front of the barracks to the left of the main manor building could be heard as the day's drills began. The girl walked briskly on to go about her task and the excitement she always felt in going into that strange town.

The young girl was not the only one surprised. Her gaze instantly softened at sight, more than happy to see her than the guards that she was speaking of. Not that she as afraid of being the cause of trouble, in fact, she was usually in the mists of doing so. "Oh, thank you very much." A brief glance past the gate, towards the buildings, before looking back to the girl. "Be safe in town." And Storm would watch the girl for a while on her path, some old habits fall hard.

Well, if she was just to walk on in, so she would. She did not have to open the gate much farther to let herself in. It was just a matter of adjusting the box under her arm and pushing the gate before she slipped on through. She took a moment to look around, a mental check of where things were, the sounds of daily drills clear in her ears.

She started further inside of the gates, towards the main building. She highly doubted that she was anywhere near the stables, but first thing first, she was looking for people. A person in particular, a small smile appear on her lips at the thought. Amato.

Now the matter of the guards were of mild interest to her. She certainly was very capable as being a threat, even if her short statue and choice of clothing did not suggest such a thing. But then again, she was not giggling and wearing a dress. Another slight adjustment of the box under her arm, more than hoping that she was going to be able to find someone before having to stand at the door front.

"Keep that crate steady or we'll have grain all over the yard, ya lubbers," Gaerwyn scowled then looked over his shoulder to the recruits drilling with the soldiers. He strode to lean hands against the barrier to observe, but it was the sight of the approaching guest that caught his sea-sharp eyes. A clench of his stomach, the face he would not forget no matter the lack of light upon seeing it first.

A seaman's gait, strong and rolling like that earth might move beneath him, he walked towards her taking, "What business do you have here?"

His call brought the attention of the other soldiers, now very aware of the stranger and if Captain Caisson greeted the stranger with such brusque manner, then they should take note of danger. Fulcras, the soldier instructing the drilling that morning, sent one recruit to the manor house and the other to the barracks. Gaerwyn. noted the movements, but kept his attention to the woman as he approached and stood but a yard from her.

She paused in her footsteps, and turned to look over her shoulder at who was talking to her so. Grey eyes recognized the man as she turned to face him fully. Tongue tucked in her cheek, she gives him a quick overlook. Did not seem pleased to see her, did he? Her arm tightened over the box ever so slightly as others seemed to be joining him. She then replaced her studying look with a pleasantly polite smile. Outnumbered, but not at unease. She certainly did not want to make a scene on her first visit, though it would be remembered for sure. She was not threatened by his presence, or by the others.

"Good morning, Sir." A small bow of her head, a matter of recognizing that this place was not her own. He was only being protective, she told herself. Perhaps he did not recognize her. Besides all matters, she knew of his present hardships, but kept those thoughts nicely tucked away. "I am here to see Ewan Corinsson." She says simply. She did not see a reason to address him differently, he was just Ewan to her. Though she had enough understanding that others called him differently. A point made then, she would neither push nor deny her familiarities to him. Bandaged feet stool still as she looked to the man, quiet patience.

?Master Corinsson has been sent for, miss.? Fulcras gave a kinder look than she was probably getting from Gaerwyn at this time. ?He should be along in a moment, if you please to wait.?

And so Fulcras had, for the recruit went to hammering upon Ewan?s door rousing him sharply from his sleep, ?Master Corinsson, Master Fulcras has sent for you. A stranger is here.?

Ewan moved quickly to tug on his pants and boots and jerk on a tunic, the leather vest and brigantine could wait. As he strapped on the belt that had his two long swords, he called, ?I am coming.? And he dashed through the harshly opened door past the flustered recruit who hastened to catch up to his strides out of the barracks.

He quickly assessed the field before him: his cousin glowering, the men and women of the practice field tensely watching, and Storm standing there. He hung his head, and pushed the recruit on the shoulder, ?Get back to practice.? He walked more slowly, his rolling gait slowed as he smiled to Storm, though he yelled at the field of guards and recruits, ?All of you get back to your training. There?s no trouble here.? As he came up behind Gaerwyn, ?Not yet, at least, and I am certain Her Excellency standing at the window would prefer it if it stayed that way, Gaerwyn.?

His cousin looked to the window where the shape of the named lady stood with arms crossed and resting on the slight bulge of a five month along pregnancy. Gaerwyn seemed to think better of confronting Storm now and turned back to watch the practice.

Ewan stepped over to Storm and whispered, ?Well, you make quite an entrance, don?t you?? He looked to the box, then to her, ?I thought you came to see the horses. I didn?t know your friends made horse blankets.? He teased as he motioned towards a path that lead around the side of the barracks to the stables.

She was waiting for something to exit his mouth, she could already here it. Different, tainted. Or worse, depending on how deep the disliking on his face went. It was more than likely bound to come too, but the voice that had spoken was not his, and so her grey eyes turn to spot Ewan. She couldn't think of a better sight to see. The tension was tolerable, just not exactly thrilling. Nor quite a warm welcome mat. But then again, she came with no expectations.

Her smile was one for him as he approached. A mental check, as it seemed he was not expecting her. A slight grin then, a threat at best. All she had to be was be, and already she was stirring the pot. Wonderful. She also looked up, discreetly of course, to see the pregnant woman in the window. Should she ever meet her, she would happily thank her on the spot.

And because she had started not a bloody thing, she offered a pleasant smile to the upset cousin. "Have a nice day, sir." At least, if anything, he could not call her rude. She had been nothing but nice to the fellow.. save the first minute of their meeting.

Next thing she knew, she was being ushered away from the front of the manor and around."All I had to do was walk inside to make an entrance." Her voice was also hushed as they started down the path. "I did not mean to make such a scene." She glanced up at him, and smiled warmly. She wanted to do nothing more than to greet him the way she wanted to, and that was why she did not act. She did not know what was appropriate, what wasn't. They were going to have to have this talk soon enough.

"This box is not from my friends, but from me. And it is not for the horses, but you. Though you cannot have it yet." To make a point, she tightens her grip on the box, just for effect. She didn't think he would take it from her but.. you never know, right?

He ran fingers through his hair to get it in order from just being woken. "We do not have many visitors here, but it is merely precaution in these times." He matched her stride as they walked, his hands clasped behind his back. "I am sorry you felt uncomfortable."

The path was kept from being terribly muddy by extensive use of gravel, and it sank and crunched rock against rock as they went to the stables. No horses could be seen in the paddock to the left of the stables. Her need to protect the box unnecessary, but he laughs lightly all the same, "Have no fear. If I am not to have it yet, then so be it. I will not spoil whatever you have in store."

The doors were open and the smell of horseflesh and the warm musty odor of hay swept by them with the breezes that slipped into the stables from the open entries on either side of the building. Of the twelve stalls, only four aquiline heads came to see who the visitors were. Two were obviously very tall for horses, the other somewhat middling, and the fourth could barely get its head on the top of its gate. "Well, it seems Zesperis and Spirit, as well as Navi and Leaf have given leave to greet you." He smiled and moved to a lovely liver chestnut mare, standing tall and eager to give him a nudge of affection against his shoulder.

"I did not feel uncomfortable, I just do not wish for others to give you a harder time of it later." She peered at him then, mostly in his eyes. "I did not realize that they would wake you. I would have waited for you to wake. I know that you do not get as much sleep as needed."

She looked down, just to make sure that she did not have to be watchful of her step. She chuckles as her grip loosens on the box. Even if he wanted to take it, he had a slim chance of winning. She would protect it with her life.. Well, not really. No matter, he didn't seem interested in ruining her surprise at it was.

Once she stepped inside the stables, she couldn't help but to stare at the two taller ones. She had bantered of stealing a horse, the biggest one in fact. Though the fact of having her crane her neck slightly to get a better look, she didn't think she could even manage to hop on one without the assistance of her gift. She tried to place the names of the four horses, hoping he gave them in order so that she could at least manage to not feel completely baffled. "Which is the one you are with?" She asks, and when his attention was not to her, she shuffled silently closer to the smallest one. She peers at the small one for a moment, she had a feeling they were going to be fast friends. Her attention went back to the mare he was with. Though there was a the hint of fear of what she didn't know of, she could easily appreciate the creature for what it was. Beautiful and steady. Big eyes that felt like it could see your very soul.

She also could appreciate from the distance she was at. Sheepish grin to her face at her own knowledge.:

A broad smile, "This is Zesperis, and she is my horse." He ran his hand down the strong neck and under the round of the powerful jaw. He felt Storm step towards the other stable, and he turned but did not stop his caress of the warm coat of his horse. "I see Leaf has gotten your attention. He's an Eriskay pony that we bought here." The little pony was grey to coat and stood little more than twelve hands, but he had a hearty look to him. "He is a good little worker, but more of a pet than a horse. Only young Lord Cian can ride him when he visits."

Ewan was amused and not surprised Storm had moved to meet Leaf first. He was encouragebly friendly with an almost large dog like demeanor that came through those eyes. "I think he is hoping you have a treat for him," Ewan grinned with a final pat to Zesperis's neck before he moved to a bucket and drew out a carrot to offer out to Storm, "Here, give him this."

She gave another sidelong glance to Zesperis, not out of distrust, but simply just to look. As she was told, being so close and personal to a horse was very different than just watching one go by. The different types of colored coats also bore an interest to her. So many variations, different colors. Yet they all managed to live well together in the same living area.

She could not stop the faint smile that came with that statement from her mind.

"I take it that they do not like crunchy water either?" She teased as she took the offered carrot. Their variety of shared 'secrets' were always a matter of amusement. Red, pickles, stealing horses. All within a days conversation.

She then turned to look at the pony, perhaps a look of hope. Alright Leaf, help me to not make a fool of myself. She thought with the slightest grin. She placed the carrot in the palm of her hand, and eased the hand into the stable by the pony's mouth. Eager eyes to the treat, Storm could not suppress the giggle - oh yes, she just giggled- at the way the pony's lips moved in order to grab the carrot. It was the oddest sensation to her hand, but she did not fear it. Maybe if she saw the teeth that grazed by her hand, she would have been more careful. But instead, she was laughing, as Leaf finished the carrot with ease. A tentative hand reached out, to touch the coat.

Well, step one was done at least. To come and pet one.

"They are all very lovely." She said quietly, more assurance in each stroke to the flask. She stepped away then, and another look to Zesperis. "May I give her a carrot also?" She asked, with the faintest arch of her brow.

Ewan crossed his arms and leaned against a post as he watched Storm interact with Leaf via the pony's favorite method of communication -- food. He gave a pat to Navi and checked on Spirit so that neither of the horses would feel left out of the attention. Ewan gave them more personality than they might have, but he counted on each of them in their different ways.

As he looked to see if Spirit was still chewing the wood of his stall, he answered Storm, "Of course, but me careful to keep your hand flat as you get to the end of the carrot. Zesperis is not as gentle as Leaf when it comes to deciding if it is a carrot or your finger she is about to bite off. And I've never given them crunchy water, but I suspect grass does not taste much different." There was a teasing light to his green eyes even if they were red rimmed from lack of sleep.

He was pleased to see her here. Of his friends who had always said they would come and visit, she had been the only one. Therefore, he was not about to let sleep interfere with the visit. "So, now you have touched a horse and live to tell the tale. I hope you are not underwhelmed. They are, afterall, just another animal."

Zesperis was not the only one that whickered as if they understood and took offense at being labeled "just another animal." Four more equine heads peaked out over the stalls. Two with heads like large horse shaped boulders that would match the massive bodies of the Belgian draft horses who stood in twin at seventeen and half hands each. They were gentle giants and they were not to be called "just another animal."

She chuckled as she reached to grab another carrot. "Are you implying that I eat grass, Ewan?" Her own tease as she looked up to him. He looked so tired, and here he was, entertaining her and such. She would always remember it, even if she would have rather waited till he woke on his own.

She then started toward Zesperis' stall, not sizing the animal, but... she was taller than Leaf, and that had to be taken into consideration. She also did not seem too thrilled with what Ewan said. How interesting. "It is everything that I thought it was, except I haven't taken one sailing South yet." She looked over her shoulder and offered a cheeky grin. She could hardly be disappointed when they eagerly ate from her hand. She had somewhat of a soft spot for animals, 'mere' ones or gifted ones.

She looked at the liquid pools of the mare's eyes, before carefully moving her flat palm into the stall. Carrot ready, she was eager to watch another take the carrot from her hand. More soft laughter as her grey eyes lit up. Though the mentioning of losing a finger to the horse had to remaining more careful that last time, it did not stop her from giving the mare a carrot.

Once the carrot had vanished, she looked over her shoulder again. "I think Zesperis likes me." Well, she could not really tell, but she wanted to bring a smile to his face. She wanted to do more, but those wants were smothered for something more suitable. She was not exactly walking on eggshells, she just did not know anymore. Where they were, what they were. Things still unsaid. Her gaze lingered on him before going back to the mare, a hesitant hand reaching to touch her.

He managed a mock sense of shock, "I would never imply that you eat grass; however, now that you mention it..." but he just gave a half smile as he started to wander the stalls and check on each horse as he went. He gave affection to each in kind with a rub to a cheek or a neck. "If you plan on stealing one and taking it south, you had best make it Navi. She has the docile temperment, old girl she is."

He had looked back to Storm and in that moment Paxus decided to explore Ewan's hair with his mouth. Ewan whacked at the great Belgian's jaw and snarled, "It isn't edible, you big goat." The man and horse shared a look of disgust with each other that Paxus gave up first and turned right around to where his feed bag hung. "That's right, oats, not hair." It looked as though the big boy had enough to eat, so Ewan walked on, adding food where it looked to be needed and checking the horses.

"Zesperis is a picky girl, so if she likes you, that's saying something," he called as he stepped into Navi's stall and took down the lead rope, made a loop with quick expertise, and set it about her neck. "Come on, lovey," he cooed to the horse, who seemed to need little prodding as she followed him out of her stall. "Let's get you out in the paddock and some exercise."

As he passed by Storm he smiled, "Might want to set down the package on the table in that corner there," his head gave a nod in the direction he spoke, "and you can come see Navi free roaming, if she does not take to eating the fresh sprigs of grass." He continued to lead Navi out of the stables to the paddock, whether Storm followed or not.

Storm had the great opportunity to watch as a horse took a great interest in Ewan's hair. So great, that it just had to have a bite. Just one. Her grey eyes widened slightly at the sight. But then the looks of disgust were exchanged, and she laughed. So hard, that a hand had to cover her mouth to keep in under control. Not to mention the looks that he would probably send her would not help. She had to turn her head away then, hidden on the other side of Zesperis as to control the fit of laughter. It did not end as planned, as she started to cough. Laughter and coughing were not the best combination, as she could not control either as they varied taking control over the poor Air.

She had just barely finished her fits of coughs and laughter as he started to speak. Her head turned from it's hidden spot to gaze at him with redding eyes. Indeed, she continued to clutch the box under her arm for safe keeping. Away from the horses now, as Ewan had not been close enough to take it from her. Not that he would. She watched as he took the horse, the one she was apparently supposed to steal if she was going to take one. A faint smile played on her lips as she went to place the package where instructed. "I do not eat grass." She muttered under her breath after he past. Didn't know what he was missing with that crunchy water.

She followed him then, tugging down idly on her white sweater that she had somehow managed to keep white. Then her hands went to her pockets as she followed to the paddocks. Though she was silent for the time being, there was a hint of a smile in her eyes.

He lead Navi into the paddock and closed the gate firmly behind him before he drew off the lead rope. Navi took her time walking the large circle of mostly mud and dying grass from winter, but a few sprigs came up and a fresh spray of hay was against a far post of the paddock. It was a comfortable place for the horses to laze away, with a tree reaching its branches over the side of the northern fencing. Buds of fresh greenery tickled at his sight when he watched the branches stir in the light breeze.

Ewan strode to the fenced edge near Storm and turned to lean back against the wood. He watched Navi move toward the hay, and then he cast a sidelong glance to Storm, "Anything else you wish to see or anyone you wish to meet while you're visiting?" Then a cheeky grin when he turned his gaze back to Navi, "Or maybe you would like to tell me what the secret package is all about."

Her eyes never strayed from Ewan and the horse. It was a new experience, to watch how he interacted with horses. Or, to just watch the horses in general. The small breeze had her hair tickle around her ears. She absently tucked the moving hair under her ears. It was getting long, and was probably for the better if she went to get it cut. She did not though, and would continue to let it grow. It was just at the awkward growing stage that would irritate her at times.

Those times were not now though, as her eyes followed Ewan as he joined her at the fence. "There is more to see and others to meet other than you?" She said teasingly, grey eyes widen a touch for effect. Her lips would curl into a grin then, as she leans further on the fence. A glance over her shoulder to where the box was resting. "It is not a secret box, if you were able to see it, hmm?" Faint laughter, grey eyes bright with humor. "Though the contents of the box would be a different story then. Unfortunately, I must tell you that you cannot open it until... you are on the boat off to.. where ever you are going. Though I cannot sit and make sure that you do not open it until then, I have a feeling that you will follow my wishes." Her grin toned down a simple and warm smile. There were other reasons for her visit, other than to see him and the horses. Now she knew where to go if ever needed be. Knowledge of the place he was at, and a place that would know where he was going, put her mind.. and heart, to ease.

"Oh, aye, there are many others to meet and see," he offered soberly, but there was a teasing light to green eyes when he glanced her way.

The sun of this day had made its way through the clouds by now and he raised his face to its warmth. Eyes closed and soaking the light into him, as it helped to soothe a mind always turning, sorting through thoughts, and setting aside the eager troublesome events that continued to plague his good intentions.

"Ah, so I am required to wait until upon the ship to open. As you will." He nodded, and he would keep to the requirement as he would any command given to him. A willpower that was sometimes very strong, particularly in such sitiuations.

A kitchen page rushed up to the fence and sputtered out, "Master Corinsson, Mistress Ilena wishes to know if your guest is staying for luncheon, and Baroness Sylvia requires you speak with her."

Ewan moved to step between the slats of the fence as he responded, "Let the Baroness know I am on my way, but as to my guest staying for lunch, that I do not know." He stood up straight once again and looked to Storm, "Are you staying to dine with the people of Yearling Brook manor?"

Storm Divine

Grey eyes shifted as the kitchen page came to speak with them. Master Corinsson. Her lips curled slightly as she again heard the formality. It was not exactly a hard concept for her to understand, but it was again, another reminder of undertone differences. If many called her by her last name... which, not many knew of... they might just die of shock.

She could only assume that the woman in the window was Baroness Sylvia. A woman, she would remember, to thank with a given opportunity.

When the question came to her, she pressed her lips together briefly in thought. She was very torn, as staying to dine with others would only aid her if she ever needed to return again. Without Ewan. But on the same token, she did not know if she was ready for the glances of curiousity. If this place was anything like the Temple, it did not take long for words to travel around. An unexpected visitor who created such an scene, was now with the Master of Arms. She had no idea if he had talked to others.. of her, or how much of her words needed to be carefully checked before speaking. But was this an opportunity that she should let pass?

"I will not mind dining, if it is no trouble of course. I fear I cannot stay much longer though. Places to be and such." A warm smile.
