Ewan Corinsson

Those expected to attend had gathered as dusk settled vibrant colors across stringy clouds and the first stars of night came into view on the darkened portions of the sky. Ewan wore the dark green doublet with its leafy symbols embroidered delicately in gold along the cuffs of his sleeves and the edges of the white under tunic. A simple wide belt of black held twin daggers and the sheath tips tapped lightly against his black trew covered legs. He walked from the steps of the main manor building to approach where Sylvia stood near the center of the crowd.

Storm, too, came at that time from the guest building. She wore a robe, silky in texture that was light grey in color. The sleeves fanned just faintly at the wrist, and the material barely skimmed the ground. The design was simple, but it was the back that held four different symbols. The first two held symbols in simple but bold black lines, representing the symbols of her father and her mother. Beneath this pair of symbols were two more; one in same manner, reflecting Storm's symbol of the Air, and the other had a background of a rich green and golden leaves, representing Ewan and his homeland. Her hair was left down, a single gardenia tucked just above her left ear.

Slender pathways in the small gathering appeared to let the couple meet together before Sylvia. Avery stepped up to Storm?s side with the encouragement of Storm?s father, Cornelious. As the eyes of the attendees all drew to the center, Sylvia called out warmly above the crowd, ?No mortal power can claim to join two people together. Only those two individuals can do so, and they can only do so willingly.? Sylvia held out her hands, and Ewan unbuckled his belt and gave over his weapons to her. In the same fashion, Storm reached into a pocket of the her gown and produced a pair of stones, one white and the other black, with a thin leather thread keeping them together. Her eyes took a faint dim, before it appeared to transfer to the stones. Eyes clear, she held out the stones by holding the thread, and offered it to her father's waiting hand.

Ewan smiled reassuringly to Storm and took a deep breath. He could see she did the same, and they both spoke with confident truth, hope, and understanding of what they swore. ?I ask you to be no other than yourself: loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not yet know with respect for your integrity, and faith in your love for me through all our years and in all that life may bring us. I do not promise the absence of hardship, but I do promise the assurance of my strength to support you through hardship. I do not promise the absence of sorrow, but I do promise the assurance of my love to see us through the sorrow.?

Gaerwyn and Avery each stepped forward and offered up the tokens of their pledges. Two chains with amulets worked masterfully by Johnny. The amulets adorned with symbols and decorations along the edge of the coin sized discs and in the center, runic symbols twined together, one the symbol for a bird, and the other a symbol for a fish. Storm drew up one with leaves around the edge and Ewan took up the one with ornate clouds around the edge. She placed the chain over Ewan?s head to settle it around his neck, the amulet rested just beneath his collarbone, and he followed likewise to place the amulet chain over Storm?s and rest around her neck. ?These visible symbols of our pledges show we are both individuals and one, and they remind us and others of that duality.?

Ewan reclaimed his belt of daggers and placed it about his waist. Cornelious offered an opened hand, and Storm reached to pick up the stones, once they were in her hand, their faint glowing ended as she put them back in the small pocket. As a final symbol, the couple share a kiss and the ceremony joyfully concludes with many of the attendees expressing their support, or the desire for beginning feasting, with huzzahs and cheers. Ewan and Storm, having one more matter to attend, walk with Cornelious to the house to fulfill the obligations of the Elemental traditions, but they would join the revelers not long after.

While Storm and Ewan followed Cornelious into the house, the guests were given the opportunity to continue to mingle as the festivities started. A wide semi-circle formed by beribboned poles with laterns that were paired with side tables of food and drink. The tables displayed decorations and flowers that alternated between each culture, with greens and golds, then blues and greys. Pages continued to remain efficient, setting plates and other utensils where needed, and offering assistance to those who needed it.

Meanwhile, Cornelious opened the door for Ewan and Storm to step inside. There was a simple table waiting for them, a piece of parchment waiting along with ink and a quill. On the parchment was already written words of pledging, and reassuring that each member understood the meaning of such vows, "This is something required of each Elemental," started Cornelious as they approached the table, "to show that vows are more than just words. There is an obligation to and for each other, and by signing this, shows that you both understand the actions that you have taken today." He smiled slightly, and reached over to dip the quill into the ink gently, and offered it to Ewan.

Ewan took the quill without hesitation, but he did read the parchment. It was a habit he was going to break any day soon, and such a serious occasion warranted sober and considered judgment. He signed in a quick and clear hand at the designated space. Storm gave Ewan a reassuring smile as he handed the quill over to her, though her grin appeared more giddy than anything. She glanced down at the words that she had seen countless other sign, before her left hand signed her own name in a well practiced hand next to Ewan's. She simply signed 'Storm' rather than adding the surname that many knew her by, before setting the quill back down.

Cornelious smiled brightly, his dark grey eyes shifting from one to other, before placing a hand on each of their shoulders, "On behalf of the Elementals, I wish you both the best of wishes in your life together. Welcome to the family." This, he added for Ewan, his smile becoming one of amusement before he started to usher the couple back outside, "Come, I have taken enough of your time away from the others whom have come to share this day with you."

But Ewan stopped the man briefly, ?One more thing, sir, if you will give me but a moment.? He motioned for the two to stay as he trotted out to the hallway and came back with a wrapped square item no longer than his forearm and only slightly less wide. ?There is no token that can really match the joining to your daughter, but I would like you to have this.?

As Ewan stepped out, Cornelious sent Storm a questioning look, and all she could do was shrug slightly. Curious, she raised a brow at Ewan as he returned, but she was paying more attention to her fathe as he started to upwrap the item than Ewan's response. Storm and Cornelious' expression was almost mirrored in part surprise and shock as they stared at the item in his hands. The picture revealed is of Juleta?s craftsmanship and is a picture of Storm in a serene moment, content, happy, and captured beautifully. Storm though, did not get much time to look more or even question, as Ewan reached for her hand so they might join the others outside in the festivities.

Cornelious however, was still looking at the picture, "Thank you." He barely said above a soft tone. He smiled unknowingly, and stayed behind the couple for just a few minutes, to study the picture, and place it and the parchment in safe placing.

As the kiss garnered the applause of those assembled, she grinned widely before setting the opening chords of her first song. It was a tender bit of poetry she had set to music, and after her initial meeting with Ewan, she could think of nothing better to start the celebration of their joining.

Her voice was crystal clear and seemed to float from everywhere all at once, the entwined melody capturing attention without diverting any of it from the happy couple.

Dear thoughts are in my mind
and my soul it soars enchanted...
as I hear th' sweet lark sing
in the clear air of the day...

For a tender beaming smile
to my hope has been granted...
and tomorrow he shall hear
all my fond heart longs to say.

And I will tell him all my love,
all my soul's pure adoration...
And I know he will hear my voice
and he will not answer me nay.

It's this that gives my soul
all it's joyous elation...
as I hear the sweet lark sing
in the clear air of the day...
it's this that gives my soul.........
all it's joyous elation...
as I hear the sweet lark sing
in the clear air of the day.

Sylvia worried little over the celebration, as Nyla was still in her element seeing that things kept going smoothly. Cian and Aiden sent off to prepare for bed, she would join them to say goodnight in a few moments. For now, though, she shared a few words with those who came nearby and she listened to the song.

The ceremony had been similar enough to take her back those many years to when she and Kieran had joined and she became Baroness of Yransea. How her life had changed then. She watched Ewan and Storm in their joy moving among the guests, and she knew how much both of their lives had changed this day.

Music filled the area and drew her deeper into memory. Her attention around her sinking into grey unawareness until a voice spoke at her shoulder, ?Excuse me, Baroness,?

It was Keefe. Sylvia turned and gave a nod of her head for him to continue. ?It is a fine night, and I was admiring the layout of the grounds. It seems the buildings were constructed at different times.?

One slender brow rose. Was this some attempt at idle chatter? She found a smile for him somewhere in her collection of empty ones, and answered, ?Yes, the main manor building is nine years old now. The barracks came five years ago, and the guest house two years after that.?

?The materials all came from Rhydin, then??

?Yes, all of them, but some of the craftsmen were from Yransea. A few wanted to learn the different styles and methods used here.?

A solemn nod as he came around to face her, blocking her view of the gathering partially. ?I thought I had noticed some of the particular styles found in town in a few buildings of Seansloe.? His mouth turned slightly upward, but she could not tell if the look was one of amusement or accusation.

?Does that disturb you?? she asked.

Adopting a casual nonchalance, ?No, no,? he turned to stand by her side. He was uncomfortably close. ?It was just observation.?

?Do excuse me. I should see my children to their beds before returning to the guests.? She gave a negligible bow of her head to his more formal bow and moved with swift steps to the house. The laughter of merry making rebounded off walls and brightened her step, eager to return to all but the observations of Lord Keefe.
