Topic: OOC Items Here

This thread is for any OOC, whether it be thread specific, character questions, comments, outrages at something done in a storyline (i.e. "you killed 'x'?! How dare you!"), etc.

Sylvia has been inviting some of her dear friends to the ball in Yransea during His Highness, Prince of Palendies, visit. I had hope to have the ball be roleplayed live, but unfortunately real life is getting in the way. So, there will be a thread called, quite simply, "It Happened at the Ball" for any and every participant to post what happened with their character while attending.

I will set the scene giving as much detail as I can without being too constricting. This should allow people to have a variety of things for their characters to play off of and with which to interact.

I apologize that this will not be the opportunity I had hoped to interact with you all.

The date: Would coincide with mundane date of November 27th.

Travel: To get to Yransea one must travel by ship to the Nexus point in the middle of the sea. It is two points west of south just outside of the Rhydin port. Then two point west of north to reach Seansloe. Travel back is much faster. A one-way port just ten leagues east of Seansloe takes one back to the road north of Rhydin town proper.

Those who do not have a ship, or wish to not use one of their own, the Yran Lark will leave port the day prior at sundown. It is a Merchantman class and can provide suitable rooms for several.

Accomodations: Those who wish to stay overnight are given rooms in the main keep third and fifth floor.

I just wanted to thank the player of Sylvia for the play in the thread Seasonal Calling, for letting me and Sid explore a little friendly get together. For all she is and for all her age, the Ancient can be so very awkward at things like this. She is trying to learn, and I thank you for helping her learning process along.

Thank you, too, and the others who write here, for the stories. They have been a pleasure to read, and I so look forward to reading all the new ones when I find they are up.

It has been a distinct pleasure to play out that scene, and I am so pleased and humbled that you brought it to Syl.

I hope we are fortunate enough to interact more in the future whether through posts or live RP. And thank you for the kind words of the stories in this folder. We have a great time writing them, and love when people join us in the fun.

In the "Sad Wilderness" thread, not everything that happens is going to be shown for a variety of reasons. So, it will be more like brief glimpses into Ewan's other life. Some things that will impact his return will be shown and some will not. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the small views. The timeline for the entire thread is nine days.

For those of the mildly curious...things are moving along in Yransea with regards to the whole "unknown threat" thing, but after much debate and going back and forth, it has been decided that much of what is going on will not be posted here.

However, all us folk from that world are still involved with what's going on, so from time to time you might see things referred to in a thread or in live RP of their homelands.

Ack!!! What am I going to do without the stories!!?? ::Pouts.:: I want stories!!! You can't leave me hanging like this! No fair!

::Grins.:: In all seriousness, I am going to miss not being able to read about this part of the lives of some of my favorite characters.

Hey, me too!! I'm into this. I look for it! Now, instead of reading a great story, I'll be out on the street getting myself into trouble with the natives and then won't you be sorry!

::chuckling:: Well, you could fix that by getting a publisher....

We have fans?! Who knew? In all honesty, that's very kind of both of you, and should the grand plan brewing over here fall apart, I swear that the stories will find a place for you both to read.

Of course, on the other hand, you two might have subjected yourselves to editorial and pre-reading suffering. See -- that's what you get for speaking up.

Honey, do you have fans! I know this for a fact. They may not be posting here to say, but I do know many, many read the wonderful writers who make their home on this board.

Personally, I can't get enough of the lives of these characters. I love them all! The writing is stellar. I must confess I am often envious of the imagery and feeling I get from reading here, hoping that I can even come a tenth of the way close in my own writing.

No matter what happens, and I certainly hope that nothing bad occurs to make your plans fall apart, I do sincerely hope that I get to read this part of the characters' lives in some form or fashion at some point in time. ::Grins.::

Of course, on the other hand, you two might have subjected yourselves to editorial and pre-reading suffering. See -- that's what you get for speaking up.

Oh! Please!!!!???? I'd love to volunteer for this! I would readily, happily do so, and be honored to be allowed. ::Smiles.:: Of course, this does mean you set yourself up for reciprocating on this end. ::Wicked grin.::

I'm all over your posts each time I see them, so if you have stuff hidden away, Sid, you can bet I want to read them! Send it my way, I'd love to read whatever you've got out there!

Thanks to you all who've spoken your fondness for the whacky stiff spined folks over here. In truth, it's just becoming a big monster of a story, and with timelines and posting and whatnot, seemed the board wasn't going to really do the trick. There's no intention of being mean, just trying to avoid confusion, which I've been told is starting to brew with what has happened when.

So, I have a solution to the lack of stories: You wonderful writers just have to write more! I expect to have daily, or at least weekly, things to read from every single one of you. ::grin::

Okay, so maybe I am mean, or at least bossy.

I am Speaking Up. I am Speaking Up!
Make me suffer, please? I want anything you write. Even the crumpled stuff.

In addition to Sids comment on imagery and feeling and honoured, I would add that the prolific hand of yours is inspiring...gods, that I could do so much great writing as you do. Your stories and stories keep my own dream in front of me. You can do it. I need to do it. I want to write and make the progress you are making. I am hoping after May is over....I am renewing hope!
So, see? Inspiration! YOU! Ja! ::nodding::

::trying on some puppy eyes, sort of, maybe, kind of::
You would not take that away from me...from your other fans as well, would you? Hmmmm?

(is it working???)

SylviaNightshade

I'm immune to puppy eyes, Thorm. ::grin::

However, we've struck upon an idea, which I actually don't like, but I've been convinced it would be interesting, and it would satisfy the need for stories from some folk here. Point of fact, anyone is welcome to come here and post a similar type thread. We're going to have "Through the Eyes of a Child" posts that explore the childhoods of the characters. Sylvia's is pretty boring, which is why I'm rather blah about it, but the others would probably be pretty interesting. So, on that note, anything that has Through the Eyes of a Child in the title of the thread is going to be backstory.

Now, another reason I do not like doing this is because it takes a lot of the mystery out of a character if it is misused and also makes getting to know the characters during LiveRP rather redundant, but we'll try it out and see how it works.

For clarification on one of Syl's threads "Threading Knots" is as close to a journal type thread as gets around here (don't much like them honestly). So what goes on in there often refers back to activities in other threads, or is filler between activities that are particular to a storyline. This can cause confusion, because it isn't just thoughts, actions happen and scenes are played out, but since they are mostly what Syl is feeling they don't actually fit in the threads. I hope this helps clearing things up.

We at Sonnet 44 wish to express our deep sadness at the news of Fayalki's player passing on. He is held in great respect by many, and his first accepting of these characters still effect much of how we play today.

The information, however, will not have reached the characters out of land, and it is for that reason only that there is not a thread here to pay respects as yet.

For the courageous battle he fought in his illness and for the RDI on AOL, the man who gave us Fayalki will always be remembered as a judicious and inspiring roleplayer and a graciously giving online friend.

Ewan Corinsson

Okay, because I'm a complete mess up, the SL of Ewan is going into darkness for a few days and probably will end up showing only the resolution, which really sucks storytelling-wise, I know. We'll see if I can hammer out something, but at this point the skeleton of story has no flesh, and that is also sucky storytelling.

Mia culpa.

Okay, it took a swift kick in the backside, :: grumbles :: but I think I have something at least worth posting so we can get the story moving along again instead of waiting on this bit.

Geez. Grumpy people.

Okay, the thread is "Death shall have no dominion" and I would like some criticism - here or PMs - on it, because I'm still not happy with it, but this will have to do for now.

I swear I will try to get more written. I also have to wait on other parts to play out now...so that's rather refreshing that no one is waiting on Ewan anymore. hehe.

Ok, ok, ok... so how long do we have to wait to find out what's gonna happen to Ewan??? Hey though... like... ah? No pressure or anything... Heh.

And the post was awesome Ewan player... just remember, like Sid player points out... you are always likely to be your own worst critic... Hey, I know me and play partner are forever arguing over who has done the worst post this week. I always insist it's me and she's always insisting it?s her. Go fig...

To put this in some type of "book" style perspective. The various threads are going to intertwine -- all around the same point in time of what is going on with each character. You lovely readers (would hug you all, but that's just trippy, so imagine the hug) are at about the first quarter of the book. So, in a phrase, the fun has just begun.

And yes, I'm afraid Ewan can't post more until a few other characters make some headway. However, discussions of the plot details continue on the writers side of things, so hopefully more will be coming soon.

Edited: Actually, it's been pointed out to me that you are close to midpoint in the book -- not first quarter. I'll go back to fighting my cold now. Sorry.

The latest post in 'Death Shall Have No Dominion' is notching up the creepiness quite a bit. I mean, seriously enough to make my eye twitch a bit at the whole notion. I hope I read correctly that this is a good thing. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with causing eye-twitchiness. ::grin::

I am glad you're enjoying it. I'm hoping to continue improving, but as I'm continually told, we all have good days and bad days in writing -- just have to write through it.

Okay, long OOC post here, but I feel it is only right to keep people who have been reading along up to date when plans change. Last night there was a long debate (which is why no more posting has happened as yet) on what the true outlook of publishing this story would be. The honest assessment is ?not so good.? One of the reasons the story has not allowed others to interact with it is because of copyright. Great friends you all are with fantastic characters, but you own them, and if this story had been brought to a publisher, well, there are already so many legal twists and turns that it was just going to get cuckoo if more writers were added to the mix. It has been a big regret over here, which is why things are changing.

We?re going to split reality here. What happens to the characters in some future story will not be what happens to the characters on the Dragonsmark site. We?ve come to a crossroads and in order to do what we want to do (which is play with you all again) but be true to the story, we?re just splitting off into different directions.

So, the fact that it has been decided not to pursue publishing this version of the story offers what we believe are some really big plusses: 1) We now can return to interacting with you all and opening up the storylines wider (woohoo!) 2) More of the story can be shown here (double woohoo!) 3) Our characters can die for your storyline (triple woohoo!)

There are things that will not change, though, like the homeworld of these characters, how to get there, and what works and what does not, etc. Sorry, but I have put a lot of thought into limitations, rules, and to be perfectly honest, they haven?t really reversed or been withdrawn but only been more defined as people ask questions. I?m sorry to be stuffy, elitist, whatever you want to call me, but it is what it is. The other thing is, because of previous intentions, most of the homeworld wasn?t seen. It is a land of seven nations (well, actually eight, but that?s another story) and so far, only two have been even remotely shown. I do not see that changing. There is no reason in the Dragonsmark/Rhydin venue to show the other nations of that world.

So, a huge thank you to all of the readers who have been patient, very patient, with the bumps and bruises of reading a sketchy storyline and suffering through big gaps in the story. That should be less of the case from now on.

And Sid?we have ideas for you. Bwahahahaha!

Everyone please feel free to argue, disagree with, or debate the points made here. We did it for hours last night.

Yes!! ::Pumps her fist in the air and dances the happy dance.::

2) More of the story can be shown here (double woohoo!)

::Double WooHoos along with Syl player and raises her a quadruple WooHoo!::

3) Our characters can die for your storyline (triple woohoo!)

Nooooo!! Absolutely not! No dying of these characters! No. Nope. A huge Huh uh!! ::Grins.::

Thanks! It's good to hear people are enjoying it...all the warm fuzzies, and it makes us work harder to try and continue a good story.

Please do not hesitate to tell us when we've missed the mark either. We're not professional writers, and know we've got a bajillion ways to improve.

Let me make note though for those wondering: Kieran is dead. As a doornail. No bringing him back, though people are welcome to try. I just don't want anyone disappointed when it doesn't work. He's gone. Trust me, not happy about it. I was reliving the death of Wash in Serenity when it was decided. I'm still peeved about that. Wash did not have to die.

I digress. Thanks again for the votes of confidence.

The actual healing of Ewan via Sid's most gracious assistance is still being played out through the thread. It's resolution in the timeline though meets up to a few days after Gaerwyn returned to Yransea. So, you'll get to see much more of the healing process, but I'm getting Ewan up and out of bed tomorrow. This post is just to keep any timeline confusion at bay. Err...that's the intention at least.

The joy of posting:

Think you're late to the party? Not true. The entire idea of this whole thing being of a posting nature is so that there's no pressure to be at an appointed time. So, the pre-ceremony is one thread and the ceremony and post ceremony (because that would have an effect on the landscape) are another.

NaNoWriMo --- yes, I'll be giving it a go this year, too. Which means as sporadic as my postings here have been, it will only get worse. Besides writing for NaNo, I'm also working on a *gasp* children's picture book, though I won't be doing the pictures because I have as much talent for art as an ant.

That being said, I do hope that my many favorite writers on this website will be able to continue my addiction for reading great stories while I'm out of the way. There's so many of you I can't list them all, and I know I'll leave someone out. So, just assume I mean you and post things so I can read them.

It is done. 50,009 words and the NaNoWriMo is done. Or as done as it is going to get. The story could continue, but I have not decided if it is worth the effort.

Anyway, a few of you have expressed interest in reading it, and so if you wish to read the item in its unedited anti-glory, just PM me a place to email the word document. I will not be posting this anywhere on the web because I'm not that insane.

Congrats to Sylvia-mun for finishing NaNoWriMo - I failed. 38,917 words and I wrote myself into a corner without enough time to figure out how to get out. :( Next year I might actually do some plotting in advance - that might help. Hey now, you didn't fail. You wrote 38,917 words of a story. That's excellent and more than some people ever write.

As to it being a terrible story, well mine's no great bit of literature either, but I have some moments in there that are worth exploring or placing in a better story. Missed the Happy New Year, so Happy New Year to everyone.

I don't believe in resolutions, but I do believe in possibilities. So here's to the year's possibilities, and I wish you all the best.

It is possible I won't be as terribly late in well wishing for things in the future. Eight days later?

Just a quick note - I've been insanely busy this week and haven't had a chance to post when I'd have liked to. I'm picturing the Farail thread for the day after Storm's visit - but if that doesn't work for some reason, I deliberately didn't name a specific day. "Farail" for the curious means "A visit, an inquiry for health" - how perfect a word! Anyway, tomorrow's the last day of insanity, and things should be back to normal by Sunday.

For "A Glimmer of Light" - and really any other post that mentions Hudson's home, it might help to have a basic idea of its layout. It's a row house, near the center of the row, which means it shares its side walls with the neighboring houses (no windows on the sides!). Its layout in general is long and narrow. I'm putting in a very basic floor plan I whipped up, but I don't have any measurements and I'm not sure of the scale. :| I also haven't put any furniture placement in. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! And if you happen to be good at basic structural design and want to help me refine this... well, yay!

The sharing of the turtle poem --

This poem came about from a talk with an RP partner about her pet turtles that would watch her when she moves about her home. I remarked that they were fighting turtles when she mentioned they would bite at other people's fingers (not hers). A poetical thought struck me, and I came up with a poem in the conversation. Here it is:

We
We are
We are the Fighting
Turtles
Chomp
Chomp chomp
We
We will
We will get you
Someday.

There, now, said I'd post it. (not that anyone cares because it was really only funny in the moment, but a promise is a promise)

Seems to me like the turtles are plotting, on how to escape their terrarium, eternally jealous of her ability to move beyond four glass walls. They can see there is more, but for the shell of it, they can't figure out what they have to do to get there.

Turtle Brigade will have to pause their dastardly plan for this story point:

The card game is actually called Speed. I play this with my family some. I hope I explained it well enough to give an idea. If not, let me know and I'll give a run at it again.

Hudson should just be glad Sylvia did not bring dominoes.

There was a moment in the live play where Ewan went in to see his mother. That moment is offered in the thread, simply titled, "A moment with mother"

Ewan Corinsson

Date: 2008-03-07 16:38 EST
Okay, so Ewan did his "scavenging" for the baddies, he found out a few things, but it really isn't worth posting here because it involves way too much stuff that isn't necessary in this forum -- new characters, old alliances, other countries, etc.

So to sum up:

He's told who needs to know of his findings.
He's off to the King's City (name is unknown to me) to take part in a trial
He lost a hand.

Okay, so yeah, joking about that last part.

Under the weather, so I'm sorry for the long delay and short reply to A Mending Sojourn. Hopefully this'll pass in the next day or two.

And for the curious, the L?ir Mothan is essentially a 16-ft Swampscott Dory. Not exactly period but one of the best all-purpose small boats out there, designed for fishing on the open sea or some distance up rivers. It can be manned by one person but is large enough to carry four, and can be rowed or rigged for a sail (Hudson opted for a single square sail or "gunter rig"; it's more common to see a dual-sail rig these days).

Probably more than anyone really wanted to know, but hey. I'm going to try and find some good pics here eventually.

No worries! Hope you start feeling better soon.

For those who want to know Where's Sylvia:

Sylvia -- in town until mun calendar of Monday April 14. The various visiting threads are going to take longer, naturally.

Hope the illness clears up, soon, Hudson-mun.

In a similar type comment:

Ewan returned in town on Thursday with no current plans to be out of town again soon. I plan on dropping him by J & S's Engagement party (when I can write it...sometime today?). And as far as I know that doesn't overlap any other threads the character is currently involved in, some which have no "specific" timing and others that are past, i.e. Seeking the North.

If there is ever a question of where Ewan is at any time because you want or need your character to interact with him, please do not hesitate to PM me. I may seem pretty stodgy, but I try to be flexible. My poor little brain just can't wrap around some things at times.

Sorry everyone but The Ripple Effect has suffered from its own title and is getting larger than I intended. I guess the Sedlaral had more to do than I anticipated on his first venture (yes there will be others). I appreciate your kind patience with this moment in time.

Okay, I was going to post the full story of Finlay and the Giants in the Parchment and Ink thread - but it's really very long (about eight pages in Word). So instead I'm going to post a link here to the story so that anyone who's interested can read it. For storyline purposes, Sylvia's opening a packet containing the letter and probably eight hand-written pages, covered front and back.

What is A settled time echoes? -- it is for visitors to come have a quiet exchange, a moment away, a visit to Yearling Brook that include fun, play, being free (but not *too* free, there are children about). There may be dark topics touched on, but for the most it is a time away from the whackiness.

So, it will probably have a rather disjointed listing unlike many of the previous threads which have more of a feel of a "chapter" or "a moment in time."

Sylvia is supposed to be in town for another two weeks -- just FYI.

Thanks for reading and I and the others are glad you're enjoying the stories.

And Elessaria you're welcome to jump in this OOC thread any time.

Now, FYI - Sylvia is back out of town for awhile. But she does keep up correspondence (as previously seen)! For any curious as to the matter, letters take a day and a half to reach her -- unless delivered by messenger bird, and then we have to have the discussion airspeed velocity of an African or European swallow. ::grin::

The beginning of Summer's Green is in reference to Hoodwinked but I didn't want to belabor it or crosspost when the post was divided between two SLs.

I'm enjoying reading what's going on in Hoodwinked, even if Sylvia is too cynical/skeptical to believe it. The SL holds a lot of possibilities.

On another note, Summer's Green is going to be the High Summer celebration in Yransea. The thread isn't dead yet, just slow moving.

Thanks to LunaEva mun for the live RP that brought about the conclusion of the Opportunity Knocks thread, or at least the conclusion of Ewan's involvement on it.

There may be some question out there of Hollows Den and Willows Den. Am I confused? Have I forgotten what I called them? Are there actually two of them?

The answer is Yes.

There are actually two of them, but I have from time to time forgotten which one is where since they are secreted places that are referred to in passing mostly. My most egregious error for not keeping them straight in my head. But, for clarification (and not going to go correct my errors in posts because I'm just that lazy), Hollows Den is close to the Yransea warehouse, over by a few streets. Willows Den is between The Marketplace and the RDI.

This is what I get for being flippant in my internal world construction, which is to say it has no impact whatsoever on anyone else but the continuity of my storylines.

The few of you that read in this folder may have noticed that I haven't written much in way of a structured SL for Sylvia recently. That's because a few months ago at the end of the "To no longer mourn" thread, Sylvia told me she was done -- for now.

At this point, much of anything posted about Sylvia is as a secondary or even tertiary character; a way to get things done if need be for other people to tell their stories. Until she pokes me in the back and says "Hey, gotta a story to tell" I don't see this changing. Therefore, the random posts of Sylvia's will be windows into brief moments of her life or exchanges with some fantastic RP partners I have.

Cian, young as he is, does have some stories to tell. I, however, do not see the point in creating a character for a (near) five year old. I hope you few will allow me to indulge a creative outlet and writing challenge to write some more things from Cian's perspective using this screen name.

Thanks for reading. On with the show.

Well, Ike robbed me of power for awhile and Internet for awhile longer. However, today, it was returned to me. Others in my near area still do not have power.

I will be continuing on with Thy Mother's Glass, which is planned to switch back and forth between Cian and Sylvia's viewpoints. For those that want to know the title's origin, it comes from Shakespeare's Sonnet 3. The essence of the poem is about procreation, but the line seemed appropriate. Here is the sonnet in its entirety.

Look in thy glass, and tell the face thou viewest
Now is the time that face should form another;
Whose fresh repair if now thou not renewest,
Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother.
For where is she so fair whose unear'd womb
Disdains the tillage of thy husbandry?
Or who is he so fond will be the tomb
Of his self-love, to stop posterity?
Thou art thy mother's glass, and she in thee
Calls back the lovely April of her prime:
So thou through windows of thine age shall see
Despite of wrinkles this thy golden time.
But if thou live, remember'd not to be,
Die single, and thine image dies with thee.

There's a thread I am anticipating coming up sometime today or tomorrow, so I (with the help of another) will hopefully be returning the favor of some fine reading.

Just an FYI -- NaNoWriMo is coming up and once again I'll be participating in the insanity. Since at least a week of November is going to be sucked up by travel, once to World Fantasy Convention in Calgary and the other for family during the T-day time, I'll be focusing a lot of my extra writing on NaNoWriMo instead of here.

Two semi-related topics here. The first is that because of my work, I'll be out of the country for the next four or five months with very limited internet access. I might be able to get on to post, but I can't count on it. Which brings up the second topic. Because of this, I've been putting up posts for the New Venture SL "early" - the posts through Lightning Crashes (and Salten Sea if I get it up before I'm out of touch) are intended to cover from a month to a month and a half in RhyDin (dates are not fixed in stone).

Minor spoiler: If Salten Sea doesn't go up - rest assured, Hudson is NOT DEAD!! I'm not killing him off! Promise. Just... misplacing him for a while.

Currently stories in the New Venture SL are as follows:
New Venture
Waves and Wings
In Jungles Dark and Weary
Speech of the Snake
Lightning Crashes

With NaNoWriMo successfully out of the way, SLs around here that have been patiently waiting on my to get my creative mind in gear should start moving along.

So, there should be answers coming to the following:

Does the prince have suspicions of Sylvia's attachment to Hudson? And if so, does it matter?
Will Yransea be forced to choose sides should civil war happen?
Who is going to die next?

At least...that's the current rough sketch of things to be answered.

Luna Eva

The last post in Pawns and Princes is KILLING ME! Don't do it Sylvia!

Ahh! You're breaking my heart over here, absolutely breaking my heart!

Bwahahahaha!

Erm, yes, I suppose I should not cackle maniacally at that, but it is wonderful to hear when a moment or a scene moves someone. Thank you!

Now timeline issues -- again -- I'm behind in working with people on posts. I apologize. Everything was supposed to lead up to the climax of this storyline on the equivalent of the 21st of December for the imaginary world. I was trying to get it to align with the mundane world's December 21st. Alas, I do not think that is going to happen. So, things will be backwards and forwards, but hopefully it will still all make sense in the end.

Thanks for hanging in there and thank you to RP partners for their patience.

One word: Wow. All the threads I've been following in this folder for the past few weeks have been amazing. It's been a real joy to read the different posts, and to see how the actions of all these various PCs and NPCs in all these different places link up to the big picture. Sometimes I feel like the writers in this folder are working with laser scalpels and I'm over in mine working with a meat cleaver.

The computer at home has died an excruciating death that may mean I have lost every file I have ever had (except some stories kept elsewhere). Let this be a lesson to you all to back up your stuff. Anyway, if I don't get it repaired tonight, then it is going to be some time before I am able to complete or tweak any renders. RP and posting ability will be completely random.

The computer is still partly dead (still no render work), and because of this the SL touching on the initial effects of Sylvia's choice is moving a lot more quickly and with less detail than would have. I think we can all agree this is a good thing, for while it builds character, it is trivial in the larger, ephemeral scope of things that is this forum.

So, moving on...
